[Q] Wifi-Direct, USB-OTG - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys! does anyone tried this functions on razr i?

theres no wifi direct option...
havent tried otg

No USB-OTG @stock. If I plug and USB stock, nothing appends
Maybe with something like Stickmount
About Wi-Di, as it's an Intel Device, maybe can we hope some support on day. I don't know if the Medfield SoC is WiDi compliant.
The Lenovo K800 is WiDi, no reason that the Razr i will no be..

I am so longing for USB OTG.... can't wait to use DSLR Controller with this cell phone.
:/
Maybe Motorola will release a ROM that includes USB Host functionality?

Mmmh, still no USB OTG with JB.... dammit

I've heard OTG doesn't work because the razr I as it doesn't output any power and usb devices need power, I have ordered a lead which has a separate lead to supply power to the usb device and I'll update when I receive it and have tested.
Sent from my XT890 using xda premium

So the lead came and to my sadness doesn't work for my razr I :'(
I was looking forward to that too

I'm currently using an powered OTG cable to connect my mouse and keyboard on my xt890.
the pen drive is not working im gonna test some mods on that,

OTG is working but only devices like mouse, keyboard, pad etc. USB drives doesn't work cause kernel has no option for that. To use OTG You need to connect devices through powered USB hub.
Wysłane z Motorola RAZR i.

For WifFi Direct you can use this app : SuperBeam
Cheers

I tried it but failed to connect with Galaxy Mini II.

Did you switch on your WiFi ? Even for me it works only on certain devices but most of the time I forget to turn on the WiFi.

Yes I did. :/ It fails starting to transfer file.

Hmm. That's weird. Maybe you could try their IP Address method. I'll have to get back to you later because I don't a spare android smartphone. If it works I'll give you a description of what to do. Maybe its the new upate that's causing it. You could also try an older version of the app.

Do you think will GTab have USB host?

You may not know how useful USB host is. You can use USB stick (up to 32GB), USB keyboard, USB mouse.
If it had USB host, I'd buy it for sure (wifi only).
Sadly NO...
On German Amazon its possible to pre order the device and the datasheed isnt saying something about USB Host

This one was my favorite (because of the Phone capability) until you asked this very good question
Maybe they got it rooted in future and then its possible? (depends also on hardware...)

I'd guess that its not going to ever have the capability without hacking. I don't think any device has that at the moment.
I guess what gets hacked depends on what the hackers think is worth doing, and I can see that USB host would be an especailly awesome thing for the Tab so hopefully it will get some interest.
If its a game breaker, you may well be disappoited for a long while tho. This kind of hacking doesn't happen over night.

This is SO true. I remember people trying for years to hack USB host mode in to Nokia's Linux Tablets: the N770 and such. I wonder: Did they ever manage to do it?

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong (as I don't have the device in question) but doesn't the Nokia N8/E7 support just that? I seem to remember a video demonstration of the N8 supporting an USB memory stick.
Also, the Tab will have a dock that has a keyboard, so it's not totally impossible for it to have USB host capabilities.

I don't know about the N8, sadly I just don't have much interest in that part of the mobile space. However, some googling seems to indicate that it is possible (news articles say so) but I don't know if its naitive or needs hacking.
As for the keyboard and stuff, thats a good point. I can't see them using a non-usb standard for that, so it must just be the proprietary connector that makes the difference. In that case, all we should need is a Tab-USB connector, and a few drivers. That would really give the tab some muscle.
In general can mobile devices support the USB min-harddrives ? The ones that power from the port ? If thats possible then the tab will kick serious ass. 250 gigs in your pocket for cheaper than a microSD card.
I'm not really a fan of Nokia's products either, although they USED to make great products they haven't done so in awhile. And I *hate* Symbian. Anyways, at least the N8 DOES have some USB Host capabilities:
"Among the Nokia N8's neater tricks is its support for USB On-The-Go, which basically lets you connect USB peripherals (flash drives, for example) to the phone and have it act as a host..."
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/30/nokia-n8s-usb-on-the-go-support-demoed-lesser-phones-turned-in/
That was almost perfectly offtopic, sorry for that ^_^
Oh, or not, perhaps! Look what I JUST found:
"USB Standard port adapter
With this kit your Galaxy Tab becomes a standard USB port. With this USB port you can synchronize your digital camera or other devices."
http://www.oled-display.net/more-sa...s-bluetooth-pen-standard-usb-adapter-and-more
Well if they are going to officially make an adapter then maybe we are going to get USB Host... I can't see how you could transfer things off a digicam without the Tab hosting it as a drive.
Well... This looks pretty awesome then.
But they *CAN* cripple the functionality to just mass-storage devices or perhaps just cameras, like Apple did with their USB Camera connection kit, or whatever it was called.
Let's just hope that Samsung doesn't go that route.
Hopefully samsung aren't that stupid Although in theory we should be able to hack it back open anyway, and its a good start at least.
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I'm also wondering about usb host (or at least OTG) on the Tab (as I'm considering buying on to port Meego to).
Could someone who has the keyboard doc post the dmesg output once it's been plugged in please?
From some dmesg output I saw elsewhere (but not with the keyboard dock), it appears that the USB chipset is an OTG version, and seeing it act in host mode with the keyboard doc plugged in would be a nice confirmation.
I Would be interested to see the anser for this one.
Yes it is launched (mainly for photographers) i have seen it's price, very cool cheap at £10000 plus something!

It's not the Fools Day yet, so keep your jokes at bay.
OK, I just ordered a keyboard dock and I'll have a look. I'll post a dmesg output and open it to see if the PCB is marked in any way.
According to the pinout (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9925838) there seems to be no other way for data to flow apart from USB.
So one of the following must (should) be true:
1. Samsung is reusing the pins for a proprietary protocol -probably reconfiguring the device by pulling up or down other pins.
2. The device is capable of host/OTG mode but it is probably unpowered and it probably needs a pin pull-up/pull-down to enable.
3. The keyboard is using unidentified pins, and the USB pins are used simply for the PC connection and power.
Does anyone know if the keyboard acts as a proper dock? i.e. when you connect it to the pc does it work at the same time as (say) KIES or drive mount?
Just a quick update, the keyboard was just shipped, and I should have it by Tuesday.

There was a problem with my order (the company didn't have any in stock) and the keyboard hasn't arrived yet. Still waiting!

USB host
This is a good concept. I have an Archos 70 and a Galaxy tab. Archos has a micro usb port with which I connected my USB host adapter and the key board and mouse works . Flash drive and router dongle says more power required. So I am looking for a powered USB connector for this.
Unfortunately, Galaxy tab has different cable and I dont know if I can find a host cable for this. Any suggestion?
Worth a shot?
After reading this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9925838
I checked the G-Tab pinout :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDMI
and tried to ground pin 13 to put the tab in host mode last night... needless to say since I'm typing this on my computer... epic fail. However, I'm curious if anyone else has had any success with this.
I'm not too much of a fan of buying something to destroy... but if I have to disassemble a dock to get the pinout for monitor mode... suck!
Anyone have any advice as to what I jacked up here?

[Q] Phone to Nook Tethering

I have an unrooted (blasphemy, I know) G2. It has wifi hotspot capabilities. Which allow me to connect the nook to the G2 wirelessly no problem. The problem comes from my work, which sniffs out wireless networks, and I rather them not see my adhoc personal network, even if it is secured.
Is there a way to connect my G2 to my nook (probably through micro to micro usb cables) and have it tether? I can connect my G2 to a laptop / computer and using a tethering app (native or PDAnet) and can tether that way. I just wouldn't know how to do it from a phone to a nook (which is basically a big phone).
Any ideas?
I'd need to purchase a micro to micro if people say it can be done that way.
Thanks!
sorry just read your post again and see you not rooted so i guess this wont help unless you root it ROOT IT

That is for WiFi tethering, which I explained I already have working but am looking for another option, wired tethering. T-Mobile has native wifi tethering, one of the reasons I haven't bothered to root my g2.

I was wondering the same thing last night. Do we know if it's ever been done by any devices before? I'd assume the android device would have to have the specific drivers to recognize the device....If you can get yours hands on a micro to micro I guess just try it out and see what the android device does? When I plug my phone into my ubunutu laptop it recognizes it as an external modem right away, with no additional software. I wonder what will happen when it's plugged into a tablet.
Boy, that's an interesting question. What would happen if you plugged your android phone (that was rooted and setup for USB/modem tethering) into another android phone?

I'll see if I can get my hands on a micro adapter or a micro to micro cord and give it a shot. I work in the tech field, and no one around here has ever seen a micro to micro cord... they seem quite rare.
ive been wanting to find out if this wired tether is possible as well, since it would probably save a lot of battery life over making a rooted droid an adhoc wifi hotspot.
i have been unable to find a micro male to male cable anywhere, but i did find a USB 2.0 A Female -> Micro B Male adapter. The best price appears to be on ebay, seller king6729 seems to have a ton for $2.49 shipped. i cant post a link b/c this is my first post.
just put an order in, we'll see what happens when it gets here. though this is my first rooted device and i dont have a lot of knowledge of how to work on getting the usb drivers working myself
How did the cable work big tourist?

it took forever to arrive, but i finally got a chance to test, and it doesnt do anything. when i go original droid->nook with the cable the droid doesnt even recognize that the cable is plugged in.

I'm pretty sure that this will not work. The Nook doesn't have the USB drivers to "tether" your phone and as such your Nook will not recognize that your phone is even plugged into anything.

External wifi chips for monitor mode

I don't have the Tab 3 8.0 but on other platforms I target, I use 2 dongles based on RTL8187B chipsets they do both monitor, and injection, they are very well supported and at most all you require is the kernel modules for your platform. I built them out-of-tree with minimal work. I am sure their are many more chipsets others prefer but I use what I know works for me. a little googling will show you what dongles contain this chipset, I pulled the covers off mine to integrate them or I would get you the specific ones I use with great success.

Thanks but and this my fault for not stating it but I was more talking about having USB otg connected and then connect a USB external WiFi chip to that. The wifi chip I have is the Alfa AWUS036NHA.
So what I want to know is if I go buy a USB otg adapter will it work. As far as I know the Alfa AWUS036NHA has support for Linux(drivers) and android is linux . so would I need these drivers and if so how do I install them? And anther thing is, if this works and is recognized how would I put the chip into monitor mode(with terminal eliminator, could use other methods but terminal eliminator is preferred)?

HP Touchpad Mouse and Keyboard Issue cant use both at same time

I decided to make this a separate thread apart from the general questions post mainly for anyone who has a similar issue, it will be much easier to follow and ask questions, as well as update it myself when I have more data.
So to begin, I wiped my Touchpad with TPtoolbox v.40, installed CM11 4.4.4 with standard gapps and philz recovery. Everything was working great and going smooth until I tried to use a USB Logitech G11 keyboard and a wireless G700 mouse with the dongle attached to the keyboard. The touchpad will recognize the first device installed to the OTG cable but nothing else I plug into it unless the first device is removed. Let me give some examples of things I have tried.
----OTG Y cable (1 male Micro USB, 1 Female Micro USB power input, 1 Female USB) powered by PC or AC Power supply----
-TP>OTG>Keyboard>Mouse dongle = Keyboard input only
-TP>OTG>Non powered USB hub>Keyboard + Mouse = input based on first device plugged in, if both are plugged in when I plug in the hub, they keyboard always loads first but the mouse does work when keyboard is removed.
-TP>OTG>Non powered USB hub> Keyboard + wireless mini keyboard/mouse combo (Rii i8) + USB flash drive = Everything works, I can type with both the USB keyboard and the mini keyboard with functional mini mouse pad as well as access USB storage. However, when I add any type of dedicated mouse, be it my G700 or wired usb G500, neither work unless I remove the other two input devices.
Cont...
Continued from First Post
Notes: The OTG cable itself works fine using several devices, whether it be flash drives, external hdd, keyboards including a Rii i8 wireless keyboard/mouse combo (touch pad feature works as a mouse with the keyboard, probably because its considered one device.) but I cannot get it to work with a dedicated mouse in conjunction with a keyboard. If I remove the keyboard, again the mouse works fine on its own. If I have the mouse plugged in first, the mouse will work fine but the keyboard will not.
Some of you might be asking, why use a dedicated mouse if I can get the mouse pad on my mini keyboard to work? Gaming
Why not use a Bluetooth keyboard? I do not wish to purchase one and I enjoy my current keyboard
Does anyone have any ideas or a solution? Its driving me insane and I really want it to work with what I have. I even tried making a DIY OTG cable, same results haha.
Update 1: I know this combination works on other devices including Galaxy S3/4/5, and a POS tablet (Envizien or some crap), it really is slow haha but perfect for web and youtube. I figured if this same setup works on all these devices, why not my Touchpad... and here I am lol. Both mouse and keyboard are HID devices so it shouldn't be a problem. I know it has something to do with the touchpad itself, be it a settings and software hack, or I simply need to try a few different roms. I know the touchpad is capable of it, I have seen videos of it being done with what I have. That is what leads me to believe it may be ROM/kernel related.
Update 2: while creating the thread: I wiped the TP again using TPtoolbox v.41 and installed Shumash's Pacman ROM 4.4.4 hoping it was ROM related. No luck. I have attached an image that the TP does indeed recognize the keyboard if I plug it in after the Mouse but I am unable to type anything. I have set the language and default layout to be sure it didn't need to be set, again with no change. I will try an older ROM next to see if it will help.
Thanks again, cheers!
Paul
Help please
Tried 6 ROMs total with no luck.
4.3.1: Evervolv
4.4.2: Evervolv
4.4.4: CM11, EOS AIO, and 2 Pac man builds
Same symptoms with each.
Is anyone here with an HP Touchpad currently able to simultaneously use a keyboard and Mouse, wired or wireless through OTG?
Quick update: while running EV 4.3.1, I tried to test it again while at work and when I plugged the Mouse dongle into the USB hub, the mouse showed up but then wouldn't let me move it. I ordered a different OTG and USB Y Cable to better replicate what someone else was using in a youtube video. I just cant see how it works on every other device but this one though.
I really have no idea what to try next so i'm at a standstill.

I intend to go back to your CM11 build, as It seemed to be the smoothest and most reliable of those I tried so far. Im guessing when I do, the kernel will change so my attachment may be useless, i'm not sure. Can't do it here at work though, no Novacom for TPToolbox and the SD card partition is tiny if I were to try and do it using recovery.
New Log, no fix yet.

My apologies, I did not.
Added a second log:

I did not intend to suggest there was something wrong with the kernel.
I think the problem is you are trying to use an un-powered (or bus-powered) USB hub.
Use a (self)-powered USB hub instead.

I misunderstood, my apologies. I will look around at buying a powered USB hub. Can't seem to find any less than $20 with decent reviews, that's in Bluetooth keyboard realm.. I will look at both options I suppose. Thanks again.
Edit: I was just thinking, I had the BUS powered USB hub working with several devices at once, including the wireless mini keyboard, usb keyboard, and a USB flash drive. Wouldn't that be an indication that an Externally powered USB hub is not required? I find it strange that I can get everything to work fine except when it comes to using both a mouse and keyboard at the same time.

Problem with OTG&USB N950F

Hi everyone
here I've got a terrible issue with my note 8 and SAMSUNG USB OTG.
When I connect my otg and a flash memory to phone, nothing happens, unless you force restart the phone while the otg is connected. After booting I can access to my flash memory but after removing the otg and reconnecting it, again nothing happens unless force restarting.
I've tried everything possible. Downgrading, upgrading, 4 files rom, pit file, rom from different zones, but still have the problem. I have no other issues regarding the USB port and charging, fast charging, connection to computer and any other stuff works fun but this OTG.
I wanted to know if anyone have any solutions for my problem or if anyone had the same issue or not.
it is also worth to mention that I have not rooted my phone due to warranty issues, and for that I haven't tested any kernels.
thanks for everyone

Nope, I have developer options enabled but debugging isn't on. never had to enable file transfer.
When I plug in the OTG device I see a usb icon in the notification panel. Swipe down and pick explore. Mind you it only opens in the stock file explorer, I did have another file explorer that picked it up too but can't think what it is and it has been lost myriad of other apps I test and play with...
Just be aware that it may take a few seconds to scan the device, depending on size, and then display the icon.

also possible that the phone doesn't like your OTG adapter. I bought a usb 2.0 to type C adapter which doesn't even work on the phone - when I plug it in usually the moisture sensor error comes up saying water is in the device and I should let it dry. Unplug the OTG and the error goes away.
So... I bought a USB 3.0 A to type C OTG adapter and that one works fine with everything I've tested (usb flash drives, keyboard, usb ethernet adapter, etc)
I believe the USB-C to USB-A adapter that came with the phone is actually an OTG adapter (tested xbox360 controller and keyboard)
I also believe that the note8 can host usb flash drive native (no need for OTG cable) as i have a dual head USB-C and USB-A flash drive which is recognized once the USB-C end is plugged in

I'm test with any OTG cable or.....not work
also reconnect and again connected but no answer
only with force restart
Sorry to dredge up a semi old thread, but has anyone found a fix for this?
I'm having almost the same issue, I finally decided to try out the OTG adapter from the box and nothing works, it isn't even recognized. Tried ps4 controller, mouse, keyboard 2 different thumb drives. Can't figure out what the deals is.
Other than that pc connection seems to work and charging works fine. TIA
I'm having a similar problem. A month ago, used both OTG adapters (original from Samsung and a generic one) it detects my memory sticks as a hard-disk and was able to manage my files. But since a couple of weeks ago it does not detect them anymore. Is like it did not supply charger to them anymore. I have tried the USB debugging menu and no difference at all. Even I got back to factory reset expecting to solve the issues but nothing happened. The port as such is working perfectly because I'm able to charge through it. On the other hand, Samsung DEX is not working as well. It just charges the phone but never boot-up.
I'm just waiting for Oreo and hopes this will sort the problems out.

That sounds like a bodged port to me man
Is there any dust or dirt in there that you can see?
I really don't think Oreo's gonna fix that for you

Seems to be a little bit dusty. Anyway, the other thing is that, when the Usb is detected it ask to choose between transfer files, images, midi device and so on, even if I choose "transfer files" mode it always get stuck as "charge connected device".
Hi i have the same problem... my note 8 can connected mith my notebook, but my otg with an usb stick cant recognize my note8. I test the same otg with usb stick on my friends phone example S8 and it detects promptly all.
I hope the fixing take not long time. I waiting for help. Greets
Well, adding one more case here, my native file manager doesn't recognize any memory connected via the original otg conector, but, using x-plore file manager, problem solved, as I use x-plore since my symbian days, I never gave this issue much importance, this problem was present also with my note 7

This. I have exactly the same experience. I bought a couple of months ago a new Note 8, and finally decided to try the OTG adapter that came in the box. Nothing worked. I tried the adapter with a friends phone and it worked like magic (USB drives, mice, keyboards, controllers, etc.).
Would really apreaciate if anyone can provide help on this issue... Cheers!
