[Q] Installation process (RocketROM v1 - JB) -- Confusion - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am sorry if this question is asked earlier. i tried searching but didnot find any thread related to my problem
I am planning to install Rocket Rom v1 - JB with below mentioned process as described in actual thread.
i have a confusion, process says "copy ROM on your USB-storage". i want to ask, is it actually USB storage or does it mean ext SD card.??
Installation:
make sure you are on a rooted ICS-ROM or JB-ROM with CWM recovery and brickfree kernel installed
copy ROM on your USB-storage
boot in Recovery
FullWipe (also when coming from other Sammy-JB-ROM!)
flash ROM (it will reboot automatically in most cases)
after initial setup, open Super SU-app and you have to update SU-bin (app will do that for you if necessary!)
enjoy

[Q] Failed Nandroid restore from ICS leak rom

Quick question, before trying out the leaked ICS for the chinese Note, I made a nandroid backup for both my old gingerbread rom and ICS rom. After trying it out, I decided that gingerbread is probably more stable for daily use. Then I try a CWM restore and it failed. It failed at system.
Then I tried out my nandroid backup for the the leaked ICS and it failed at system too.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this problem?
I was able to use odin to reflash the leaked ICS which is good, but I still wonder why this happened? It doesn't inspire confidence when a nandroid backup can fail just like this.
Mine did that.
If you attempt to restore, then after it fails, attempt to restore the same backup, it seems to work.
I think this was listed as expected behaviour in some thread. or at least someone else had the same experience as me.
This is what i posted on my thread when i hit this issue, takes some fiddling but worked for me 3 times
1. Boot into recovery
2. Attempt to wipe cache.
3. Attempt to factory reset
4. Start to recover rom it will hang.
5. pull battery
6. Boot into recovery
7. Select mounts and storage
8. Unmount system.
9. Format system
10. Remount system
11. Unmount cache
12. Format cache
13. Remount
14. Restore rom
U may need to pull battery a few times. But eventually it works and restores fine
The key is the first failed restore this has to be done.
I spent enough time myself doing it hence i got frustrated and stopped done it 3 or 4 times.

Glad it worked for ya, puzzled me for a bit
There is another way to get your restore to work:
1. download AbyssNote 3.9 kernel from this thread. It's a flashable zip.
2. put this zip on your SD Card before you try to restore your previous system or flash a fresh GB rom
3. when you want to restore, power off your phone
4. boot into recovery (Volume up + Home + Power)
5. choose 'install zip from SD Card'
6. navigate to your Abyss kernel zip and flash it
7. go back to the Recovery start menu
8. go to advanced/reboot recovery <--- this will reboot the phone directly to recovery
9. you will discover that you now have Hyperdroid Redpill Recovery - it comes with the Abyss kernel - it's pretty much the same thing as CWMR
10. wipe cache, dalvik, do your factory reset
11. start your restore, or flash a GB rom and it will work.
Hope this helps.

It worked when all else failed,
Thank you
You're welcome.
What worked for me:
1. Installing RocketRomv20(probably going to work with any ROM)
2. Restart your phone, wait until it's ready for use
3. Use CWM if you installed it, then restore via using the App, not by rebooting into Recovery
4. Wait for it to finish
5. Done, your phone (should) be working again on an older backup!

What are you on about here? We're talking about specific restore problems from ICS to GB here, not just any old GB to GB restore.
Oh, my bad. I wanted to post this in a thread where one guy was experience a loop where the Galaxy Note message wouldn't go away, but he would still can get back to CWM. Sorry.
Thanks everyone!!! I think we should try to get this info posted on the op for the leaked rom. Judging by the responses here, a lot of people had this problem.

All else failed... God bless the red pill recovery! Thanks for this.
Yeah red pill recovery worked for me too. Although i needed to resore an aosp ics backup the ics cwm failed to restore the backup created by itself so i had to flash abyyss note 3.9 and restore using red pill recovery.
Hallelujah!! Redpill recovery saved my night too! Got the same system restore error, when restoring my 30min earlier done backup! Clock is 1.14 am in Finland and i have wake-up at 8.00 am to work, so I realy had to get my phone working again, and it did it! Thank you guys!!

Currently I'm on ICS Stunner 4.3. I come to this ROM through rooting method using dr. Ketan (by zergRush).
Now my question is:
1. Will the above method (Redpill) of going back to GB will work for me?
2. How to flash the GB ROM in the Redpill Recovery?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, the Abyss/Redpill method will work. Just download a custom GB Rom (Cassie's XtraLite, Darky or Chrak's or whatever), place it on your SD Card and flash it after you've done your wipes from Redpill.

search for 20o patched bin and fls files and flash them with smartflash and from there flash any ROM you like.
CM9 is not suitable as an everyday rom, try another one, personally I will recommend you CM7 or Zeus(thou I dont know if the have LTR support).
In face I rooted it by unlock root before then I flashed the cm9
I detected the errors then I re-flashed the stock rom with smart flash tool
but now I want to root again I can't
why???
also is cm7 stable and can I download it from cm website directly or where can I download it??
is cm7 supports rtl support(especially arabic)??
Is cm7 have thread in this forum??
Patched v20o comes with cwm recovery so from there you can flash any rom, yes you should.always get cm from official site or look for temasek kang in general forum.

Stuck in recovery

hey guys i was using checkrom and i flashed criskelo's ics rom via abyss kernel...it flashed fine then it got stuck on bootloop...cwm recovery is still working and i can still go to download mode...but i can'y flash anything except franco's r3 kernel...which i had on my sd card...i am not able to flash any rom or even abyss kernel....what options do i have??? the last thing i want to do is to use pc odin...and if that is the only option then which stock rom should i use? Thanks.
EDIT: got it fixed by flashing old franco kernel 10...then flashing abyss kernel...and back to checkrom... Thanks.
try again with the following steps (do the exact steps please) :
If you flashed criskelo's ics rom successfully and you're still in bootloop, reboot to recovery and do a factory reset/data wipe and reboot again.....
- Flash the stock LB1 from the same thread you had up there with Odin, then flash CF Root kernel for LB1 just like you did for LA4
- Boot the ROM, let it settle for 10-15 minutes, then check if you have full root (copy/paste files to /system)
- Reboot your ROM couple of times again and check again for full root access
- After leaving it for another 10-15 minutes, copy "AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchOriginalLogo" and "ICS_Stunner_1.4.19" to your internal sd card (MUST be the SAME zips as mentioned)
- Long-press power button and choose reboot to recovery
- Go to install zip from sd card --> choose zip from internal sd card --> choose "AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchOriginalLogo"
- Check if flashing is successful, it should say "Install from sd card complete" in the end
- Select Go back, then go to Advanced --> Reboot Recovery
- If you do not have the Redpill Touch Recovery then you choose the wrong zip, download the right one and repeat the previous three steps:
It should say "RedPill Touch Recovery by AF974" at the top and "CWM v5.5.0.4" at the bottom in white, the rest of options are in red
- Go to Wipe menu --> wipe data / factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache
- Go to Install menu --> choose zip from internal sdcard --> "ICS_Stunner_1.4.19" --> Yes
- After flashing has completed, go to Reboot Menu --> reboot system
- Let the ROM settle for a few minutes, and then check for your root privileges

New ICS Bootloader

I've seeing more and more ROM being released for the new bootloader but there's little informations about it. Do I need to flash it with nvflash or something?

pengus has allready writen a how to:
ICS:
If you come from any ICS with unlocked bootloader (Topogigi, Carburano, etc...):
1) grab the recovery zip and the cm10 or the cm10.1 zip attached to this post
2) enable debug in developer options (if you haven't already of course)
3) connect the usb cable to your box
4) copy the two zips in your external sd card
5) reboot to recovery by holding power and volume down
5) wipe data/cache, then go to mounts and format system (just to be safe)
6) flash the recovery zip file you previously slapped in the external sd card
7) reboot recovery from the advanced menu
8) flash the cm10 zip as usual
GB:
If you come from a GB Bootloader (cm7/9/10 - stock gb): (you can follow this guide or the excellent one posted by rugglez here)
1) grab the recovery zip and the cm10 or the cm10.1 zip attached to this post
2) copy the two zips in your external sd card
3) grab one of the ICS roms out there (Django Manouche X, TG P990 ICS V30A, or whatever you prefer based on V28 or V30).
4) nvflash the rom you chose following the instructions on the relative pages and let the phone boot fully (so it formats your internal sdcard correctly).
5) after first boot, shutdown the phone.
6) turn on the phone and boot it to recovery by holding power and volume down.
7) flash the recovery zip file you previously slapped in the external sd card
8) reboot recovery from the advanced menu
9) flash the cm10 zip as usual
latest cm10 --> http://d-h.st/1BU
latest cm10.1 --> http://d-h.st/8OV ( experimental)
recovery zip : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1587153&d=1356306192

[4.4.x – CM11] Baseband problem : read this for my solution

Hi, few days ago I tried to flash CM11 and was disappointed with the no signal / no IMEI / no SIM problem...
I found a solution that worked perfectly for me :
1) Download and install latest recommended CWM recovery 6.0.4.5, easy to find on XDA
2) Download the latest 4.1 (not 4.3 or you will be stuck with KNOX security) firmware (on Sammobile for example).
3) Download latest CM11 nightly (and/or Paranoid GAPPS if you want them...) and copy the archive files on your SD Card then remove the SD Card from your phone.
4) Download latest modem for GT-I9305 (XXUEMK1).
5) Reboot in Download mode and flash CMW Recovery using Odin, Heimdall (tutorials on XDA...).
6) Reboot into CWM Recovery.
7) Wipe EVERY partition including those in "mounts and storage" section.
8) Reboot in Download mode.
9) Extract the downloaded Samsung package and flash the .tar.md5 file using Odin, Heimdall.
10) Reboot again in Download mode.
11) Flash the latest downloaded modem with Odin or Heimdall.
12) Power off your phone and then put back your SD Card with archive files on it.
13) Boot into CWM Recovery and do a Wipe Data/Factory reset and wipe /system partition in "mounts and storage" section then flash your archive files.
14) Reboot normally.
15) Enjoy.
All of these steps may not be necessary, you may just have to flash the latest ClockworkMod Recovery, wipe everything and try again to flash your CM11 ROM. But this is to be sure that the problem does not comes from somewhere else by restoring the phone at its factory state.
I know this is very long, but I think you could have broken some partitions with previous flashes, this guide helps you to repair bad things and you should flash all 4.4.x stuff using the latest ClockworkMod Recovery version.
I hope this will work for you guys, send feedbacks !
