Sigh... What the hell are you doing to me Google?
Here I was thinking I could be strong and make it through the holiday season without spending and here you go ahead and roll out this delicious phone that I absolutely must have :silly:
Not only is it an amazing phone to begin with, but will also get:
- pure android
- updates on time
- unlocked
- radios for both ATT & T-mobile
PLUS you make it available at an amazing price of $299
I simply have to get this phone if nothing else than to support the business practice of looking out for the customer.
Going to be ordering the Nexus 4 for sure, haven't felt this excited about a phone in a long time :victory:

Lol I have to agree with u I might sell my gs3 and get this and will still have some left over money hhhh

I'm selling my S3 for the 16gb version as well. Well done Google.

Haha I thought it would be another thread about this:
"So while Verizon has by far the largest LTE network in the world, covering over 400 markets and over 250 million people in the US, Google has no access to those customers."
very interesting business decision

Man klin you get around--
s3 to n4
i passed on the s3 and was liking the note2, now i don't know
started out with the n1 and rooted it first day
better be 42mb--didn't see anything on being lte
i just started today looking at this thread so haven't seen what carriers i have to choose from for 42mb in dayton ohio--maybe not announced yet
tmobile has upset me with no 42mb for my 1s yet--

Was selling my GS3 for the note II, now I'm going to buy a N4 and if I am unhappy then I will get the Note II. Win-Win

I think this is a great option that are not in an LTE covered city but I'm not exactly seeing why I should go from my SG3 with blazing LTE to this phone

I'm selling my car, my house, my tv, my PS3 and everything else, to buy hundreds of these and have sexy time with them. Is that weird?

My only question is... will sexy time be on a device-by-device basis? Or are you going to put them all together and make sexy time with them all at once?
These are the important questions.

It's because android/Google can't/won't support the closed source , proprietary blobs that exist in CDMA technology.
But I hear ya, I'm a CDMA user, too. Tied in to a family plan with 2 other members and we all have upgrade eligibility at different times. I'll never be able to get off the damn CDMA.

I don't know where you're going with this, but Verizon is overpriced. Unless you're receiving a discount through work, or Verizon is the only carrier available in your area, I see no reason to have Verizon. I would be paying over $80 more per month if I wanted to use LTE. I have 30Mb down at home, and only use about 1.5GB/5GB of T-Mobile's data per month. 20% of that is from data calls. I average about 7-10Mb down on Speedtests with T-Mobile, and I find that more than sufficient, for when I am away from wifi.
I'm so sick of the LTE hype. What are people doing with their phones that require 15Mb down -- especially when you're only given 2GB for $100 per month (without FCC fees, and taxes)? Can someone explain this to me? One can buy Comcast's 30Mb down, and T-Mobile's $30 plan for roughly $70 a month. I'm sure the price is different regionally, but please. That's still $30 cheaper than 2GB a month from Verizon without Comcast. I store a bunch of media on my Debian based VPS, which costs me $5.00 per month. All of my media is available, anytime I want it, at high speeds, without relying on "the cloud" and other bs. I'd like to hear one viable reason why LTE is worth the incredibly high premium, so far I haven't heard one.

I totally want this. So freaking much. But no money sigh. Pretty sure I won't be able to get 150 for my Inc S that I'm using right now. But man. Almost same price as Xiaomi Mi 2 but at least Google certified and better build quality.

My verizon contract runs out Jan. HUURAY! I may have to just leave Verizon behind and go with this phone. $300 for a phone is the kind of price I can live with unlike the $600+ we've been seeing .

I'm selling my galaxy note and buying this. I was skeptical when I first saw the leaks, but the device does look beautiful when you take a closer look.

My phone depreciated in value more quickly than my computer.

I remember back when I sold my N95 after two years of ownership I got about 60% of the purchase price back.
I bought my HTC HD2 T9193 for about $550 a little over a year ago. You could say the more generic T8585 (int'l version) went for maybe $450. I'd probably be hard pressed to get more than $200 for it now even if it were in immaculate condition. That's 36% of what I paid after just a little over a year, or 44% if you consider it tantamount to the more common variant.
I have an Intel Core 2 Quad system that I built for around $600 total. Parting it out, I made about $400 back after over two years of ownership. That's 66% of what I paid.
My i7-920 was purchased at launch for $290 and change. I got $150 for it pretty easily -- still over 50% over three years later.
I guess what I'm rambling about is that mobile phones are moving really fast technologically. The competition is great and it's awesome to see yesterday's high-end become stupidly affordable now for pretty much anyone.
It seems the only smartphones that hold their value nowadays are iPhones, and that's only until the next incremental generation is announced. Once 1280x800 phones become the norm even the venerable Samsung Galaxy S II will probably be worth chump change.
I'm never going to pay more than $300 for a new smartphone (unsubsidized and contract-free).

It is probably worth half of what it was then.
Doesn't really bother me at all honestly.. I wanted to get the best tech I could and the atrix was still unreviewed.. so I got the best I could and have no regrets.
I wanted something that had great organizational abilities and to be able to play a few games.
Couldn't be happier still with ics rom running oses that aren't even released yet.
The rat race is for rats who can't research a device, and then be happy with it.
I made sure there was great 3rd party dev support upfront and I couldn't be more pleased.

welcome to the android world
Value is subjective. It only becomes an issue when market forces are called into play. For instance, my car is worth more to me than it is in the market. If i crashed it, my £2000 car would get back £1000 from Insurance, and an equal replacement would cost me £3000.
A new car will lose 80% of it's 'value' after a 20% of it's useful life.
If you want value for money you buy old, and keep it until it's dead. Early adopters get the worst economy, whether tech or cars.
Dirk posted some words of truth that are pretty priceless.
Another great option is to buy "recertified" type things.
I got an "open box" set of headphones that came with manufacturer warranty. MSRP was 360$. Average price new was roughly 260$.
I found them for 170$.
Always pays to do some research and find out what your options are.. sometimes you can get it "new" almost half off if you read the fine print of "open box."
Early adopters always get screwed though.. not just in cost.. Highest chance of malfunction ect ect.
Also.. especially in the phone world.. a lot of "upgrades" are really more flash than substance. Something else to keep in mind is that computers are stationary.. less likely to be dropped and whatever else.
Damn you Dirk! I was gonna do a car analogy.
Guess I'm stuck with this point instead.
The HD2 was, and still is, a MASSIVELY popular device. That has a huge effect on the market as everyone's 18 or 24 month contracts have come to an end so ebay is flooded with the things. You stick a "buy it now" price that you think is fair and you get some rich arse who doesn't give a toss and starts bidding at 1p, with no reserve. You can't compete with that.
This is just one of the many reasons why your phone was worth diddly-squat. I bought a HD2 on the UK release date for just under £500. I sold it 18 months later for £200 to a guy that made me feel like I'd just pimped my daughter when he asked me "So what's this Android software that's on it?"
There's plenty of other reasons, but this is one. Sad but true.
Edit: Incidentally, the guy I sold my HD2 to was holding an iPhone when he answered the door. I didn't just pimp my daughter out. I pimped her out to a serial killer.

just wanted to make a rant/rave thing.
just purchased the galaxy nexus off the google play store (lol play store) for about $392USD.
:crying::crying: tax sucked! $32 dollars for NYC
first time i spent this much for a phone, it was almost unjustifiable.... if i wasnt selling my old beloved nexus one for 150-ish. so i guess technically i am spending only about $240 out of my pocket, which isnt so bad if you look at it that way.

You can obviously afford the money or you wouldn't have bought it. We can't order the Nexus phone from Google here in the UK, so we end up paying way more to get it from another source if we want it.
If you weren't happy with the cost then you should have stuck with your old phone

What do I think? It's the best bang for your buck. And honestly, if you're using it while on contract, you're wasting your money. Contracts are a thing of the past. Take it to T-Mobile's $30 5GB, unlimited text, 100 minute plan or to Straight Talk's $50 unlimited everything (runs on AT&T or T-Mobile, whichever you choose). Don't forget you have a pentaband phone, which is rare even nowadays.
I paid $575 out of pocket (after trade-in credits from Amazon) for my Galaxy S III i9300, so don't complain.

Yeah but sadly we can't, at least not right now.
I ordered mine on eBay from a guy from Germany who managed to buy 2 when they went on sale.
Paid €440 for an 8GB version *sigh* but I'm really fed up with my SIII so it's worth it!
Daily Steals is a legitimate company. I am not saying that they should be charging $500 for this, but I am saying if you order from them you will get it. Be warned however, that it will take 2-4 weeks before you get what you ordered. They are the slowest shipping company I have ever bought from. So, with that being said, by the time you get your Nexus 4 from Daily Steals, it will more than likely be back in stock at the Play Store for $350 +tax and shipping and you will be kicking yourself.
How the HELL did they get stock??? That's pretty shady. The price, as compared to eBay, really isn't that much. Yes, I am aware of the MSRP, but after tax you are paying a ~$100 premium. Worth it for everyone? No. Some? Yep.

Don't expect a warranty if you by from dailysteals. I got my Galaxy Nexus from dailysteals before the play store started selling it directly. They advertised a one year warranty. Took forever to ship. When I cracked the screen Samsung refused to help me because it was the international version. Had it been the playstore version they would have replaced the screen for $200.

Nexus 4 resale way too low

I just don't get it, this is one of the hardest phones to buy right now and the resale is only 100 bucks higher than retail. I own 4 now and probably going to sell 1 or 2 ( tried to convert some isheep ). Now I just left sprint have to sell all the phones I had on their they are pretty much worth crap. And since I'm on tmobile now I need to buy unlocked phones and it's crazy to get nexus s that's gonna cost about 150 to get a galaxy nexus or any other phone those are in the 250 to 350 range.
I do have my own issues with the nexus 4 mainly it is super fragile glass (not gorilla) will scratch in a pocket with nothing in it and I hate the LCD. But other than that it's an awesome phone. What is going on where this phone is not like 700 dollars, google is doing something wrong here because I don't get it.
And I doubt google is going to keep making the LG version I would say this was just as bad as the galaxy nexus launch.
So it's Google's fault that you can't sell a phone for more than 100$ more than you paid for it? Yup, a normal complaint.
Actually the nexus 4 is the ONLY phone selling above retail second hand.
You are forgetting about carrier subsidies.

yeah because the price is so low but I was expecting the demand for this to be crazy I mean it's around the world we are talking. I would expect this to bring a high demand. And I'm not mad I can't sell it for more I'm mad that old phones cost about the same.
This thread is stupid
So u bought 4 thinking u was getting rich...classic:thumbdown:

No it's not stupid why is it any time anyone says anything bad you guys just pretend like it's not an issue. Remember we are talking about an UNLOCKED phone. A unlocked iphone 4 still sells for 300 easy. I'm sorry that I think the a nexus 4 selling for 440 on ebay brand new when it cost the person like 350 tax and shipping for an 8gb.

I didn't buy them to sell and lets not act like if google wanted 600 dollars for this phone alot of you would of paid it. It's upsetting because old dated phones unlocked sell for the same price as this and this is actully easier to buy. Like I was looking for a nexus s on tmobile for my dad everybody wants like 170 for that phone. My sprint one is hardly worth 80 bucks
Doesn't an unlocked quad core latest google phone carry some weight.
Better sell them soon... There's always a better, newer phone around the corner waiting to drive that price down even more.

The value is low, because its cheaper........
The iPhone 4 didn't retail at $300.

I noticed that Nexus phones do sell at a lower value then they are worth. I recently Bought a Nexus 10 for only $245 on criagslist and I ended up selling it for $360 but It was tough selling it for that much and it was sealed!! Wasn't even opened!

And the nexus 4 is out of stock I mean even tmobile sell's it for 500 and it's sold it out. My main point is where is the demand for this. I know most of the world has never heard of this phone but seeing how the hours this was in stock most of us had to spam to servers just to get an order thru. And now it's selling for a few bucks above retail I just don't get it.

What kind of idiot would sell a sealed Nexus 10 for $245? That thing is a beast and nothing from CES matches it yet and by the time MWC comes around, probably not even then.
To the OP, simple answer, The people interested in this phone are cheap bastards like me. We can wait. There is no way I am paying $100 more than retail since that would effectively make the Nexus 4 in the normal GS3 and Note 2 price range. The whole Nexus 4 sales pitch is $600 dollar phone for $299! It just doesn't work when you change it to Nexus 4 for $520 dollars after tax! Especially when you can get an Optimus G for $350 on craigslist.
I might pay $200 on contract if my intentions were to stay with tmobile for 2 years.

$100 over retail is not just a few bucks. That's 33%.
The demand is there...for the retail price of $300-350. That's part of the reason demand is high.
Most people aren't going to pay 50-100% more than retail just to get their hands on it a more quickly. Perhaps when it was first released, but not two months into its life.
Yeah iPhone sell for $300 or so but they retail for $600+. Same goes for other gsm phones.

If you had the phone after 13th launch and before re-stocking on 27th, it was going for $550-$650 on ebay. After 27th many of the folks who were interested in this have already ordered one and either have the handset or are waiting for Google to ship it. There are very few people left who haven't ordered one. The general public isn't interested in this since most of them don't even know about it.
Also why would someone pay more than retail when it's known it will come back in stock within couple of weeks at $350.I bought this phone only because it has top of the line hardware and still you get it for $350.I would have used my SII for couple more years if it retailed higher.
Get a real job, OP
what are you talking about google is going to stop making the LG version? its still out of stock until LG stocks enough phones to actually have enough supply to fill the demand before they start selling them again
So let me get this straight. You're complaining about the fact that his phone retails for only $350 and you can only sell it for $440? So you would have rather pay more?

Nexus 5 - Best Buy Price Match - Share your story!

New Nexus 5 owner here. I was a Nexus 4 owner until yesterday. I sold the N4 (8GB) to my co-worker for $200.
Well... I went yesterday to my local Best Buy (Laredo, TX) and went to the Mobile section and this (pretty) lady was at the desk. I told her that I wanted to get a Nexus 5 without a contract, cash. She took the keys and opened a drawer behind her and took the N5. I asked her for the price and she told me it was $450. So, I opened the browser on my phone and searched the N5 on the Google Play Store and told her that Google was selling the phone for $350 and if it would be possible for them to price match the phone. She told me that it was possible. She took my N4 and verified the information. She called the manager (a rocker-tattooed kinda guy) and he authorized the price match. They have to put the store to be matched as Other.
Success!
My recommendations. Be polite. Just act casual and don't be nervous.

best buy is the only retailer i know that matches the online price of any product. i didnt know the nexus 5 was sold in stores.

Yes, they do match prices of other online stores, but the list of the stores they match is limited. The Google Play Store is not included, so, this is why the price match of the Nexus 5 is YMMV.
From Best Buy:
"Amazon.com, Apple.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, Frys.com, hhgregg.com, HP.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Newegg.com, OfficeDepot.com, OfficeMax.com, Rakuten.com Shopping, Sears.com, Staples.com, Target.com, TigerDirect.com and Walmart.com. We will match prices between our stores and BestBuy.com®. We will also match prices post purchase if we lower our price within 15 days of your purchase."

Try to flirt or something with the BB employee. I think I did that inadvertently.
Worked for me in Madison Heights, MI Best Buy. Picked up a 16GB Black and sold my 32GB black I had purchased from the PlayStore. I did not need the extra space as I still have 10gb free on my 16gb.
Comes with a Sprint SIM in the phone but no SIM tool, so just used a pin, popped it open and put my AT&T SIM in and have been using it since.
$370.99 out the door after MI 6% tax.

Nice.
When did you get it? I got it yesterday at 7:00 p.m. approximately.
If you can price match the phone at Best Buy, it is a way better deal than getting it from the Play Store. You don't have to pay shipping and you don't have to wait!
Back on November 20th, I believe (receipt is at home) . I had to stay late for an evening meeting and stopped by BB after reading some posts about people PM to BB on another forum. Took all of 3 minutes or so. Manager came over to authorize the $100 price match to online price with no questions.

Its always a gamble......HaHa, see what I did there?
I got Best Buy to price match the day it came out. They didn't really give me any issues. Yes, there is a list of sites they price match, but if it is a reputable site, they don't really care. I also had a $100 BB gift card for switching my electric company, and I sold my N4 for $200. My out of pocket cost was like $70 after taxes..

Now that's a good deal. Hopefully N5 retains a good resale value in a year or 2 as well.

Not nexus 5 related, but last year I was able to buy to S3s for 2¢ using price match off an Amazon deal...

Not that awesome, lol. But I did go with sprint and just recently cancelled. They waived my etf by returning the phone, which was a cracked screen disaster. So it was sorta like contract free...:victory:

I'd go in person and say the same thing. When the sales associate won't listen, ask to talk to the manager. Say the same thing to him. When he won't listen, bring up the Play Store, and go to technical specs. At the same time, go to Best Buy's site or Sprint's site and go to technical specs (whichever will show the ACTUAL specs; BB's site doesn't seem to go into too much detail). Then just Google "Nexus 5 versions" or "Can unlocked Nexus 5 be used on Sprint?" and show the results. Basically show them that everyone knows that the devices are identical except them.
Of course, showing them that is no guarantee that they'll honor the price match. As this whole thread states, YMMV when it comes to them price matching.
