[Q] Stable ROM for older person - Motorola Droid 3

what would be a good stable ROM for an older person? I am leaning towards MavRom 4.0 since I've been reading 4.5 has issues.
The only major working things they need is bluetooth and camera, so I take it no ICS roms.
Also, I am trying to get either Apex or Nova for them as well to be able to lock the desktop.

I personally use MavRom 4.0, it's nice and stable. I would say either debloated stock (if they have no prior android knowledge, this would be best), or mavrom, although it has more options and whatnot, might not be the best for an older person. I've heard Nova has been unstable (but that might be on ICS/JB, not sure, never used it) and I've not used Apex either... I've always stuck with stock launcher or ADW.
There's a little information, but I would say for stability and whatnot (and emergency text system that's recently been implemented). Just root it with motofail, then run a debloat script on it, just make sure not to remove DLNA (this is required for HDMI).

I suggest Liberty or Maverick, I find Liberty is extremely stable and has the best battery life.
Also I'm pretty sure Apex and Nova launcher are ICS exclusive, I could be wrong though.

MavRom 4.0 is great. Extremely stable, great battery life, and everything works. I suggest Holo Launcher for a nice, AOSP style launcher

What ROM the has the.best battery life? From my observations it. Is Liberty or minimoto. How you think ?

I've used both. Minimoto. Im on the 883 radio. I didn't charge my phone last night and am still going. It is about 50% now. I haven't used it heavy but Liberty doesn't make it past one day.

Milestone rom reccomendation

Hi guys, I myself am a G2 user, but months ago I loaded cm7 onto my friends milestone, while he does enjoy it he mentioned to me he has a lot of random reboots/freezes etc. It has cm 7.0.0 on it, I'm assuming it wasn't very stable then.
What I would like to ask is what rom would you all reccomend for speed and features? Myself I'm a huge cm fan, but don't know much about the milestones limits. If someone could confirm the newer ports of cm7 work better? I see 7.1.0.2 is here.
Looking forward to your guys thoughts and advice on the matter.
Cheers!
Edit. Or if there's another rom you'd recomend!

Try MIUI
I am using Miui 1.10.21, built on Gingerbread 2.3.7
Its a superb ROM, except, it is overclocked to 1Ghz.
I will not recommend overclocking as a safe practice.
Except that its smooth, beautiful & works perfect

haha good one, I have a G2 also and using some times the milestone.
I'm running froyomod 2.9.2. In my humble opinion, its kind of slow... I never really use the milestone with the stock rom, so I cant compare. But if I compare with my G2 with unity rom, the moto is slow @ 800 mhz.
But at least froyomod is ultra stable and has a good battery life.
I'll maybe try this week miui, I'll see.

I don't face this kind of problem. Is there a lot of background process running?
Normally, i will kill off the facebook, whatapps and other unrelated process when not using them.
Thnx for the help guys, I flashed the latest cm7 kang for him since he was accustomed to cm7 already, since 7.0.0 it has come leaps and bounds, very snappy and he's getting a full 18 hours of heavy usage. He's happy, I'm happy. Thanks for all the input, tho I don't regularly frequent this device forum its great to know it contains helpful users just like my g2/dz forum. Thanx again guys!

Droid 4 ICS leaked - does that help us?

I see that ICS for the Droid 4 has been released - which I guess leaves only the Bionic that hasn't got the update. I wonder if anything in this leaked version will help resolve the final issues with ICS on the Bionic...???
Wont help us.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
really?
yeah we won't get much out of the leaked ICS versions for other devices. We need an ICS kernel, which thanks to the wonderful locked bootloader won't happen until we have an official release (or leak) from Moto
*praying for a leak!*
If you want to take a look at the Droid 4 ICS leak you can download it here
I hope this happens soon..
Would really like to ICS this phone, been running it on my Xoom for a while.. Sweet

You're missing the fact that an ICS kernel hasn't even been built for the Bionic. That it's incredible that ICS ROMs even run on the Bionic in the first place because it's booting up with a Gingerbread kernel.
ICS has so many things overhauled under the hood, including new aspects of kernel operation that got stacked on top of what was already there. Because of the locked bootloader in the Bionic, the kernel cannot be modified.
Bionic ICS ROMs are running with limited functionality (such as hardware acceleration) because not everything in an ICS kernel is present.

Everything you just said is technically correct; however I have been running ICS alongside GB for over four months now and have not toggled back to my GB rom in over 2 months. ICS, even with it not being "official", just runs 5x better than GB.
This is pretty much the summary of how people feel who are running Android 4.x on their Bionics. I do not know anyone who has tried the Axi0m ICS roms and then switched back to GB except for people who REALLY have to have HD video recording.

Anything that requires graphics acceleration.
I switch back more for the bluetooth issues that we're still having w/ ICS over everything else. I use bluetooth devices quite regularly, and on ICS it's simply too buggy still for me to use it as a daily driver.

i kind of like motoblur that's why i am choosing to stay with stock, much better over sense....and vanila isn't my thing, plus i am loving the camera. the hd looks comparible to my $60 flip and looks way better than a gopro.
of course, gopro's are designed to be mounted for sports or film angles, not really for personal home movies. (the mic sucks on them)
I liked MOTOBLUR also and was not interested in vanilla until the ICS roms came out. Now I much prefer 3x battery life over having MOTOBLUR To each their own though.

No video recording in ICS right now. Camera (back and front) works for stills, but no camcorder function. I never use it though.
I'm running stock - rooted with Launcher Pro as my launcher of choice and loving the stability and consistency of the device. I've tried various versions of Eclipse and a couple of ICS CM9 ROM's but have found my current setup to be the best of all. Waiting patiently now for the OTA ICS flash.....
I'd like to do the same to my girlfriend's Bionic, root and clean up the bloat. I have done so already on my RAZR.

Just install the 'Onavo Count' app. You can restrict certain apps to WiFi only for data usage. It has been very enlightening for me to see my data usage breakdown per application, since Verizon does not offer that kind of granularity in the usage tracker on their website.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with stock if it works for you. If you want all the speed tweeks of a good custom rom, then get this app! It has so many init.d tweeks and really works good. Just found it a few days ago.

Well from all the roms I've flashed the fastest ones I've dealt with is the DX OS and CM 7.2 release that just came out. I prefer DX OS but for me MMS was a big problem. I couldn't receive any through the DX messenger and had to use the default messenger to receive them. Besides that I loved it. CM 7.2 just seems a lot more stable and less of a headache if you want something simple and easy to use. Haven't had any problems so far with the OS. But at the same time I've tweaked it a lot more then any other ROM so far.
cm7.2 by far.
if your looking ics wise, i'm not trying to toot my own horn here but the aokp port i added is quite snappy, fun to mess around with. if you try it, see if youtube works! i havnt had anyone verify for me, i know it works for me though.
sense wise, definitely zero hero from matt and dastin
supercharger v6 script goes a long way with our old phones, use compcache and cut out bloat that you know you absolutely wont use

[Q] Best ICS rom - Daily use

Hi guys. I am currently using temasek's CM7 build 128, which I really enjoy. (awesome speed, awesome battery, looks cool)
However, I was wondering: is there an ICS rom good enough to use it daily? Even with the hardware acceleration -and other- bugs?
Every thread I search the information is messed up, it is impossible to know if the rom is useable or not. Although I really love testing new roms, I don't have all this time avaiable.
Any sugestions?

I tried NovaHD and it is really smooth, indeed.
However, apart from the bugs, I noticed 2 things that pissed me off:
1) the battery is warming up fast and stays hot for a long time. I reach 32~34 degrees within 15 minutes of moderate use. (I don't play games)
2) the multitasking feels quite heavy. I no longer can alternate between 3~4 apps instantly, as I could in CM7.
Is it normal from ICS, or will it be fixed when LG/Nvidia release the correct drivers?
thank you for your answers

@cool.guy,
if you haven't tried it yet, give tonyp's PARANOIDANDROID a try as well:

I either use it or Owain's Domination for my daily use and very happy with both.
Good luck!
Paranoidandroid is also good, like owain's.
However, as I said, nothing compares to cm7. The interface feels much more responsive and light. Running CM9 I can feel the phone using all of its resources and still can't get a decent multitasking.
One of the two senteces below is necessarily true:
1) ICS is too heavy for 512Mb phones; or
2) The lack of hardware acceleration drivers makes the ICS a heavy system.
Agreed?

Why do you believe that? ICS has proven to be a more hardware demander system than GB.
It happened with my old Milestone 1: great phone, but lacked on ram just like optimus. (Considering the launch time).
Result: I had to stay on CM6 if I wanted a decent multitasking. The milestone simply couldn't handle the GB, due to the 256mb ram. So I stayed on froyo and was happy that way.
It seems to be the same situation between GB and ICS.
Please tell me if I am wrong.
Hugs.
