[REQ] Change XDA Specs for the Nexus 4 to show HSPA+ 42 mbps - Nexus 4 General

Not sure where to put this request, but can a moderator please change the specs listed of this phone to accurately show the network speed of this phone? I know there was some confusion before, but now both Google and T-Mobile have confirmed this phone will run on DC-HSPA+ 42 mbps. The specs right now only show 21 mbps HSPA+.

Nice catch, we'll get it changed...

Modify Phone to pick up hspa+

Is it possible?
there are rumours that it might
TMobile released this teaser announcement when the Nexus One was released:
It continued, “And the best thing about the HSPA+ upgrade is that it’s backward compatible, so that the T-Mobile 3G-enabled device being announced this week … it’s getting faster in 2010.”
No.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolved_HSPA
"HSPA+ provides HSPA data rates up to 56 Mbit/s on the downlink and 22 Mbit/s on the uplink through the use of a multiple-antenna technique known as MIMO (for “multiple-input and multiple-output”) and higher order modulation (64QAM)"
To "modify the phone", you need "only" to change the baseband completely, which in Nexus is integrated with the CPU, in the same chip.
Normal 3G phones can "benefit" from the HSPA+ network, but they won't see full HSPA+ speeds...

You wont get the top speed, but the Nexus hardware does support HSPA+ in a limited fashion. When Tmobile released HSPA+ in the Twin Cities I seen a considerable jump in data speeds. From 1 meg down on 3G to about 3.5 down when connected to HSPA+. Tmobile sucks here in Minnesota so I only get HSPA+ when I'm outside. Hence it is useless because I don't use my phone outside for data.
K thanks =]

[q] tmobile 4g

First, I'm a flashing newbie, and still have the stock ROM and Radio flashed on my Touch Pro 2.
TMOBILE has now updated(via some secret behind the scenes update) their Touch Pro 2 owners to "4G" coverage in the Detroit metro area. I would like flash to some of the ROMS offered but I'm not sure if after doing so will I continue to receive TMOBILE'S 4G coverage. I understand that "radio" flashing is separate from Rom flashing but is anyone sure that just flashing the ROM would not effect the TMOBILE 4G update.
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Does the TP2 hardware even support 4G? That's not something you can just "upgrade". Are you sure that they're not just offering more bandwidth via HDSPA? If that's the case, then what ROM you're using will have no effect on that seeing as nearly all custom ROMs have it on by default.

Got a screenshot of your TP2 showing 4G?
from my understanding, only the touch pro 2 from europe and japan have the 4g hardware, usa only 3g hardware, thats why i bought mine from taiwan so when 4g comes out, im well equipped!!!

what they are actually doing is claiming their 3g network as 4g. its hspa. they took a card from verizon that considered their 2g network to be 3g. "you mean, alot of our 3g network is slower than atts 2g? and the only bits that are fast enough to keep up have less coverage than their 3g and is still slower? nonsense! i choose not to believe!"
T-mobile is marketing the same network even when they say 3G or 4G because it's all just upgrades, the appropriate term should be "3.5G". all of their sales reps i've encountered don't know anything about their network or their devices.
a week before the G2 came out, one of the reps tried to tell me that it was sporting a "dual-core processor". i laughed and corrected him without missing a beat. just watch their commercials...it's sad to see someone advertise 4G when it's just "3.5G".

Actually, it's HSPA+, not HSPA, T-Mobile & Sprint are advertising as 4G, which is faster & only a select few devices support the new HSPA+ speeds. So, it's more like 3.75G. HSPA+ provides HSPA data rates up to 56 Mbit/s down and 22 Mbit/s up. Future revisions of HSPA+ support up to 168 Mbit/s using multiple carriers. Regular HSPA maxes out @ 14 Mbit/s. The TP2 & most of HTC's 3G/HSPA(+) devices only support 7.2 Mbit/s down, 2 Mbit/s up. So, to answer the OP ?, If the network in that area was slower than 7.2 Mbit/s down before the upgrade, you will see an increase, but it'd be maxed out at 7.2 Mbit/s due to device limitations. As this is a Hardware issue, ROM doesn't matter other than the fact the lighter ROM's runs faster & therefore can get higher speeds because of the extra free RAM/Resources. Whereas, heavy, more feature rich ROM will tax the device more & therefore the CPU/RAM/Etc. won't be able to attain max bandwidth. It's like having a 30 Mbit Cable/DSL connection on a Pentium 3 PC. It'd never get the max speed as the system is just too slow to take advantage of it.
So basically, their advertising maybe false, it is used to explain a faster network & used to simplify which devices support this new speed. Most consumers wouldn't understand all this. So instead of dealing with, "why doesn't my 3G phone get full speed? *cry*" from customers not understanding their device has a limited bandwidth. Think of it like the days of dial-up modems. ISP A has a 56K network, but User B has a 28K Modem, so User B only gets 28K speeds.
"A 4G system is expected to provide a comprehensive and secure all-IP based solution where facilities such as ultra-broadband (giga-bit speed such as 1000+ Mbit/s) Internet access, IP telephony, gaming services, and streamed multimedia may be provided to users."

So it goes something like this;
2G -> EDGE (2.5G) -> 3G -> HSPA (3.5G) -> HSPA+ (3.75G?) -> 4G (?)
Also keep in mind it's measured in bits per second, not bytes. There's 8 bits per byte. So 8Mbit/s = 1 MB. Also some service providers cheat by counting it as 10 bits per byte. (b=bit/B=Byte)
EDIT: Interesting side note, according to gsmarena.com, the G2 & MyTouch 4G only supports HSPA 14.4 Mbit/s down & 5.76 Mbit/s up (T-Mobile's network is 21 Mbit/s according to reports) & the Evo 4G only supports Rev. A, up to 3.1 Mbit/s.

T-Mobile Compatible?

I LOVE THIS PHONE. I don't care about reviews because everyone is biased in some way.
Anyways, the specs on Motorola's site are as follows:
NETWORKS
WCDMA 1900/850/2100/1700
GSM 1900/850/900/1800, LTE Band 04/Band 17, HSDPA 21.1 Mbps (Category 14), HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
I noticed the frequencies can reach T-Mobile possibly with those bands for 3G. 4G is stupid, just another hype I get better data on 3G than 4G in Florida. Even in Miami it's just pointless to go for 4G on T-Mobile.
NEVERMIND IJUST READ ANOTHER THREAD. Works fine on 21 band TMO Network.
Thread closed.

[Q] LTE speed cannot exceed 50 Mbps

Hi, guys.
Through SpeedTest, the maximum download speed of my XT1052 is only 50 Mbps.
In theory, I thought it's able to show a maximum speed close to 100 Mbps, isn't it?
(At the same location, my wife's Sony Z3 could easily reach 90 to 100 Mbps.)
I looked up that and found its bands are 800/1800/2600MHz (B20/B3/B7), and my carrier's are 900 and 1800 MHz. Is that a factor affecting the result?
BTW, I'm running CM12.1, thanks.
Not sure about the LTE, but wasn't HSPA+ limited to 42mbps?
I have hit 80's on 4g. Verizon here.

That' true.
But since XT1052 supports LTE, I think I would have got more than that.

That's exactly what I was expecting.
Attached is the results, still fail to get the anticipated ~100 Mbps.
Anyway, thank you guys for your feedback.

T Mobile Band 66 Anyone Connect?

Have a S10+ G975F/DS
Has anyone connected to Band 66 yet on TMobile in the States?
This device seems to want to squat on either band 2 or 4. Every once in a while I can connect to band 12 but the signal is weak.
At home, if I put my sim into my OP6, it immediately connects to Band 66 but no such luck with the S10. Bands 2 and 4 on the same tower are weaker giving me only 96-102 dbm while the 66 band is around 85-92 dbm.
This device seems to squat on weaker bands and IMO overall the signal strength within the device is horrible.
So nobody has yet to connect to band 66..... Is Samsung lying that the band is actually active in the device?
Does *#band# in dialer work? Let's you pick bands.

Yes, but that doesn't really help as it only gives you a partial answer. Band 66 in some areas has a stronger signal where available than 2 or 4 and 66 isn't available in all areas.
So this is happening.... went in to LTE settings and selected one band at a time to connect to...
Device constantly squats on either band 2 or 4, however Band 12 or 66 is available as well. Band 12 connected at 80-85 dbm yet once again when auto is selected device reverts to connecting to band 2 or 4 between 97-105 dbm. Talk to Samsung and they keep repeating the mantra of the software will connect to the strongest band.... Clearly not the truth.
Connect to Band 66, even worse than 2 or 4 at 115 dbm. Yet take out sim, put it into my OP6 and connect to Band 66 on the same tower back to 85-92 dbm
So it appears not only does Samsung have a coding issue but they have pulled a bait and switch on hardware.

Just turn off band 2 and 4 and youll be on 66 since it so important.

I love when people attempt at snark and being a total D**K , yet seem to have a problem with reading comprehension. Clearly Band 66 doesn't work, but that would have required you to actually read something before your attempt at trolling the board with insults.
