Hello everyone! Here's a quick "How to install the Android 4.2 Camera" on our beloved O4x.
Prerequisites:
1. Root
2. Root Explorer or similar
3. And knowledge of the Android system. I'm not resposible for braking your device!
Instructions:
1. Download the zip file and extract the files.
2. Open the extracted file and copy the 2 apk (GalleryGoogle.apk & GmsCore.apk) from the System>App folder and paste them to your System>app
3. Grab the 3 libs from the libs folder and paste them into System>lib
4. Reboot and Enjoy your new AOSP Camera w/ PhotoShpere!
5. Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you liked this "How To" :good:
Panorama is taken at Full 8MP! :highfive:

PhotoSphere FC's when trying to take it
Edit option FC's the app completely

But it seems that it doesn't work right on the One X.. seems like it's conflicting with the g-sensor, it's going nuts in photosphere eventually after taking 2 pictures, furthermore vibrating hardware buttons don't work anymore (it's greyed out in the settings menu after flashing this app).
And the gallery keeps crashing after finishing my panorama.
Though i will keep track of this thread and i want to thank you again for making it possible, even if it doesn't work right now on the One X with Sense.

Thank you and Sorry to hear that. Although i do think that Sense is what causing it to go nuts. But im not sure.
photosphere works for the first few photos but then it FC
am i the only one with this prob?
Same.. everything works EXCEPT photoshere. It will take 2-4 pictures and then it will FC.
Don't need to set permission?

Thanks. Nice camera and galery. But doesn't work properly, unfortunately. Again the Galery is amazing. The camera seens to be better than the ICS one, but is not working nicely. Thanks for your effort.

Nope, not yet at least. The only problems with this is the photosphere and trying to change the size of the photo.
To do this, after turning on the app, quickly open the photo size option and change the size. If you were to try it a second time, the camera will not allow you to press the option. Bug or not, only way to change is to close and open the camera and press really fast again.

I wiped dalvic cache.
I tried the photosphere.
It still doesn't work.
So I changed back my build props.

Nope. Touchwiz framework is required. Alot of time and heavy modding would be needed. Unless touchwiz is ported to the nexus we wont have camera video player etc that requires its framework.

Tap to focus, burst, color modes, brightness control. I'm looking for it too, but I want the latest one. The one linked here is old. I tried pulling the apk from the latest MIUI build for our phones but it force closes.

Oh, both times when I flashed MIUI I did not test out the camera, will do now since there are quite a few improvements I see.

Same here. I've even dropped the new apk into the flashable zip and it still force closes. I've given up and just use the old one. Still better than stock.

The one feature i find amazing in the Samsung camera app is the "Add Me" feature which i can't find anywhere else.

Fix2 FC'd on me everytime I attempted to take a picture. Cleared data, no dice.
I can recommend the camera app MagicHour which was also recommended by Roman Guy a few weeks ago. Even though it's a bit laggy, it still does a nice job.

yeah but i thought it was mostly based off cm7 and thats what i tried it on. miui has some odd quirks and doesn't have the greatest battery life on my phone or i would just run it full time.
the camera is almost worth it haha. the stock and cm7 camera's are pitiful when compared to cm6 or other stock cameras. touch to focus seems like a must have feature to me.

I simply couldnt stand how poor the picture quality was on my new bionic, so i started exploring ways to make them batter. And im happy to report, I did! I got an application from the market called camera zoom fx, and i promise you, the picture quality is like day and night, so it IS NOT, a hardware issue, its definitely a software issue. you can even change the location it saves the pics to so they save to the camera roll in your gallery just like the stock blur camera app, and you can set it as your default camera. below i have to example pictures i took under low lighting with the flash on. See for yourselves, but since this application has now been rought to everyones attention, i hope we dont have to hear about how ****ty our camera is in all the threads anymore... this is proof the camera isnt bad, the software it uses is... If you have any questions on how to setup the app or anything else, post here or PM me...
A $5 fix
But yes, this is a good app, and definitely proves that it isn't a hardware limitation.

I like Camera 360 alot, its what I've been using to shoot.
I use the HDR(Heavy) feature alot, make stuff look, better.
Is really worth I mean I found version 2.5 for free in internet and really not too good for the $5 but maybe im wrong since latest version is 3.1.4

I found a 3.0.2v on the internet and it was not as good as the stock 1 on the bionic, it was infact worse, so for me i will be using the stock cam app from the bionic, but thanks for sharing
I find that the AOSP camera takes pictures 150% better that the blur based one... this is why I am going to include that as the default camera app in Liberty

HAS IT EVER OCCURED THAT THE REASON NEW VERSIONS ARE PUT OUT IS CAUSE THEYRE BETTER THEN THE OLD ONES??? i dont know about aosp, but i know that i couldnt find any 3rd party camcorder apps, and the videos on the stock app look just as horrible as the pics when watching them on the phone, but when theyre hooked up to the tv via hdmi they look really great... audio is a lil too sensitive though, if theres a light breeze it sounds like your in the middle of a frickin tornado.. lol

That's kind of why I'm afraid of touching any camera but the blur one...because often times the camcorder doesn't make use of the noise canceling mics, doesn't do HD quality, and doesn't work with the FFC.
So the camcorder doesn't work on this all, either? Wish I would have known this before the refund period ended

Camera360 just blows this stock camera away.
I was in a dark room and got 100% focus on items that the stock camera couldn't and wouldn't touch.
Not very stable but I'd rather have great pictures instead of blurry **** quality. I don't have a doubt that the Bionic will gain some attention of the developer and they'll be able to fix the camera sometimes FC..
I spent the first two weeks on trying to get this camera to take a decent picture in low light and the results were never that great. Took one photo with Camera360 and it was a night and day difference.

thats cause its not a video recorder, its only a camera, so yes, when u click it, its gonna direct you to the stock app.
I purchased this a long time ago, and I'm glad that I'm finally using it.

picture quality is very good as it is said above. i find video recording quality not bad either.

Yes I agree , korean v30i has a great camera and videorecording works perfect ,makes realy nice videos in hd 720p :thumbup:

Korean ICS is just great using it for 3 days now no problem at all!!! But only bugs remain, ie, SD card and messaging problem... but for me its not a problem.
Ill probably test CM10 during the holidays (in 1 week) since the feedback from latest nightlies of CM10 are really positive.

Picture quality of CM10 is worse than stock. CM10 camera is too strong denoising filters, pictures is poor quality.
Official CM10 is having quite the camera for daily use. You could, however use HDRCamera or CameraMX to improve the quality.
CM10 camera is not working for me as there is no camera icon in the drawer itself please help me out..

Yes.... I have camera app pre-installed with cm10......
In cm10 camera app is named as gallery2.apk...
Check this in your /system/app

The circular one was for persons, so I think it either focuses twice, or tags the face, or whatever. There usually is a quite normal focus

This works for me (ICS). Mirror 5. Just pushed, set permissions and owner. Photosphere works, as well as the gallery and can view the captured sphere shot.

havent tried to edit a photo forgot about that. but yea everything else works for me too. im on elegancia so ill have to try to edit a photo later
Camera and Photosphere work great for me so far. only issue I've had is the FC when trying to edit. I'm running Dark Raider 1.5 with Faux 006 kernel.

This is great! The camera works pretty well. I had the camcorder freeze on me when I tried to take a photo at the same time as the video shooting.
The keyboard is excellent, except you can't add words to the user dictionary as it appears from the logs that the code to do that operation is missing for some reason.
Haven't used 4.2 camera on my vivid as rs been running cm10...but been rocking this camera on my infuse...love photosphere! Runs fairly well on my infuse all though photosphere rendering takes a few minutes (single core CPU...512mb ram...) can only imagine how much smoother and faster it would be on the vivid...or the nexus 4....

Runs fairly well on my infuse all though photosphere rendering takes a few minutes (single core CPU...512mb ram...) can only imagine how much smoother and faster it would be on the vivid...or the nexus 4....

It's not bad, but there's limitations. Sphere doesn't render well with too many pictures on the vertical axis when making a flat picture and sphere viewer doesn't work. Also too, editing doesn't work, it tells me that there's no program associated with the button press. But panorama and all the other camera settings work great!
I am running wajee's de- sensed ROM, so I don't know if that's the cause of those items not working?

ok i have one problem with the keyboard ...... ( htc vivid -dedoxed stock ics rom)
when ever i select 'touch to save' a new word .. i get the 'unfortunately the android keyboard has stopped working ..then the keyboad comes off screen and i am left with the cut/copy/paste with the work highlighted. ...
i saw this elsewhere and i wondering if a similar action cant sort out ours
Go into menu/system/apps and find android keyboard asop and CLEAR DATA Then do the same for Dictionary Provider and CLEAR DATA.

Funny the camera app work when I install the apk but not when I flash the zip. The ZIP gives me "unsupported device". Newest PA rom BTW. and this is after two fresh flashes and wipes.

the zip is made for ics probably thats why it says unsupported

Check your build.prop settings. You may need to adjust those to get everything up and running.

Flashed the camera zip on CM10 and everything functions perfectly! Photosphere is smooth, panorama is smooth, and editing functions just fine.
I use GOkeyboard so I guess it doesn't really matter to me what the 4.2 keyboard is, but it does look cool!
