The low price is one of the best features of the N 4 - Nexus 4 General

I think a little perspective helps with the new Nexus 4, and this is the amazing low price of $299/$349. Sure it is lacking features like 4G/LTE and 32GB storage, I agree those would be nice.
But what other brand new smartphone can you buy, off contract, not subsidized, for $349 ? None that I know of. Other popular smartphones, going full retail out of contract like the iPhone5...Galaxy S3...Note II...One X+ are all selling for $600 - $700, twice the price of the Nexus 4.
Are these others phones, twice as good as the Nexus 4 ? No way. Sure they do offer 4G and larger storage which is nice, but is it worth paying double that of the N 4 ?

That's why I returned my quad core HTC One X. the Nexus 4 seems more worth it. i'm going to miss the white and the front of my HTC. but going to like the back of the N4

Why not just make this post in this thread ->
Official: Nexus 4 starting at $299 - Nov 13
..or in one of the existing review threads?

What made YOU choose Nexus 4?

What made you choose this device instead of others? Will you select your next smartphone based on the same criteria or do you care more about some other spec?

The reason I chose my N4 was that it was a nexus device with awesome specs and a great price... U can't get a better bang for the buck phone.
My next phone has to be top end in specs and also at a good price point compared to the competition... Idk of it'll be N5 or X phone but I don't think I'll get rid of my N4 regardless

Clean android, photosphere and updates. Hardware whatever, I dont feel any big performance difference when using s3, note 2, s4, nexus 4 etc ...

Mainly the specs and price, similar specs unlocked cost 600$+
Also I had a Galaxy ****phone with 2010 specs

pure google experience and match it with my nexus 7. both have nexus logo at the back. i like my stuff in-sync. haha. also, apps are designed mainly to match the stock look, so having the dev phone is awesome. less problem thinking on why this app not working/supported cuz dev use nexus mainly.
plus its cheap. and design rocks!
I needed some more performance since my HTC Incredible S got a bit slow with only one core. I didn't want to spend 200 € more for a branded interface that I would replace with another ROM anyway. With the N4 I have great performance, solid quality and a clean ANdroid which I don't have to replace keeping my warranty.
Just ordered a black N4 (don't get the white phone craze). My faithful Nexus S no longer meets my needs. My main reasons for the 4 are:
Unlocked
A Nexus device, so hopefully will have current updates for a while
Good price, extra features of S4 not important to me, especially for almost twice the cost
Only thing I don't like is the screen size. 4" screen perfect for me, kept holding out for a top end 4.3" android. And yes, I've used bigger phones. After I saw the S4 mini specs I gave up, guess I'll get used to it. Anyhow, given I wear reading glasses now its probably a good thing?

Price and just how rubbish Sony were at supporting the Xperia S threw me over the edge.
Former Verizon user. Saw the price of the N4. Knew I'd make my money back within 4 months after switching to T-Mobile. Broken contract. Win.
I came from the LG G2X and all I wanted was a damn OS update. With the only update the G2X ever received being a whopping 2.3 to 2.4 I decided I'd stay away from non nexus devices the best I could. The build quality from LG is pretty nice, good balance between appearance and hand feel so I never once questioned that the N4 would be the perfect phone for me. What do I look for in a phone? Top tier performance and the quickest OS updates.
2gb ram for this awesome price

In this order:
1. Unlocked
2. Nexus
3. Top flight phone for $350, how could you resist?
Loving it on straight talk. I love the phone almost as much as the fact that my bill is half what it was before.
One of my main reasons for choosing the N4 is knowing this phone will get updates for a long time from google but others are:
Build quality.
Price point for a unlocked phone.
Amount of development.
AOSP
Price (seriously, extremely great value)
Customization, Google WANTS you to flash new ROMs and stuff to this device
I'm an aspiring Android developer (currently a .NET developer)
The sleek look
Came from iPhone 4, my only other smartphone I've ever owned. Basically debated whether to get the Nexus 4 or SGS4, thank god I went with Nexus 4. Had to switch from Verizon, but well worth it. No more Verizon red tape to deal with ever again, or any contracts.

If you arent on a contracted plan with T-Mobile, unless you are on the $30 plan with no minutes, consider one of the MNVOs. Im on Straight Talk after trying T-Mobile for a bit and the service is IDENTICAL. However, the bill from unlimited plan to unlimited plan isnt.
Cheap and decent specs. That's all.

This.
After flashing cm7, then cm9 and 10 on my Fascinate, I realized AOSP is how Android phones are supposed to be. I love the clean interface, speed and smoothness and stability. My phone after that was the Gnex, so naturally I upgraded to the next nexus. I know there are AOSP roms on a ton of other phones, but the reliability seems to be perfected on the nexus devices, since they are built for AOSP. Also, there is a huge amount of developer support.
needed something after my N9 and really didn't want to go back to a locked down phone.
I bought the N4 due to the price, pure android and the ability to enable LTE on T-Mobile. I couldn't be happier coming from Sprint. It's a night and day difference.

A Truly Amazing Review of Moto X (From A Pure Nexus Fan)

Mr. Hildenbrand here has wrote a really amazing review on the Motorola X from the perspective of a true Nexus user who is tired of the extra laggy useless features offered from other Android manufacturers. Someone who looks at the Nexus 4 as the best Android phones to date** and writes from what we're really looking for. It sold me pretty well, but anything's too soon to say now until the Nexus 5 comes out.
http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-fans-take-moto-x
tl;dr: If you love the Nexus 4 for what it is, you might love the Moto X more
**until the Motorola X
While I will agree that it's nice to see another phone with almost no bloat, and the Active Notifications feature is actually quite useful for those who have an AMOLED display, I don't really know that these extra features of the Moto X are worth paying more than twice the price of a Nexus 4 for. There is also the fact that the Nexus 4 is almost a year old, so to see another phone that rivals it in the reviewers' opinion isn't too surprising.
While I'm still in the "new phone" phase, I'm hoping my Nexus 4 continues to impress me as much as it does now.
Well they still haven't released the Off-Contract version of the device, so still not sure of the price on that. But if the price is the same, then there's no reason to get the Moto X on contract for 200 as opposed to the Nexus off contract for 200.

As a baseline, Rogers in Canada is selling the Moto X for $549 off-contract. While that isn't necessarily what it will cost in the States, I'm sure it will be pretty close. Heck, on a 2-year term Rogers is selling it for less than AT&T ($169)

[Discussion] Would you pay $650+ for the nexus of your dreams?

If you walked into a mobile store. You looked at a phone with top of the line specs and build quality priced at $650. Than you saw another one with virtually the same specs. Arguably better build quality and it was a Nexus device for the same price. Would you still go for the nexus assuming that the only thing that has changed is price and hardware quality for the nexus. Still updates first. Still vanilla android still a Dev phone. Would you pay more for a better built nexus? Imagine if the HTC one was not HTC at all. If it said nexus on it and was treated like a nexus. Would you pay up?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
coming from someone that doesn't agree with 2 year contracts. i would only pay this much if i had to. i would be happy with the nexus 5 for 2 or 3 years, maybe even longer if my only other option was a 650 dollar upgrade
Maybe if Nexus had bigger battery, at least 32gb(t mobile only carries 16gb) or had a SD card. Other wise not likely would probably go HTC, LG or Sony if they get rid of the stupid amount of wasted space that could be a screen. Seriously their 5 inch screen(no longer considered a phablet in 2014) is about the same size as the note...

Too early to tell which path i will take. I'm loving my Nexus 4, considering Nexus 5 or LG G2 (because of the battery) as an upgrade sometime soon, but might hold back until i hear some good news for both programs.

Waiting for a Nexus 6 to replace my Nexus 4.
Google know people are on two year update cycles... They support Nexus devices for two years! They'll be looking for something to replace an N4 - even if its just an announcement around November surely...
Happy to wait till then. The plumetting price of g2 is an interesting one though. Shame there's no GPe for it...

Honestly? This year's pretty tricky. I know I'm going to upgrade relatively soon, but I'm looking at the new iPhone fairly seriously (especially with the rumored 4.7" screen) for the first time since I left iOS in 2010. The rumored iPhone 6 is currently slightly behind the rumored Moto X+1, with the rumored Nexus 6 sitting in third. Obviously this could all change with actual information, but for now I just don't know.
I love the unlocked bootloader/root and everything that comes with it, but I'm also tired of the ****ty battery and the mediocre camera. The Nexus 5, though obviously better than the 4, again seemed relatively mediocre compared to its competition with regards to both. I'm afraid the same will be true with the Nexus 6, though obviously I'm hopeful that it doesn't fall into the same trap that every Nexus device does.

well for the price of an iPhone you get:
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 6 = 2 year lifetime
versus
1 iPhone 6 = 2 year lifetime
If you're comparing iPhones with cheap androids (nexus or moto line) then it's not fair. You have to compare to equally budgeted devices like HTC One M7/M8, Samsung Galaxy S6?, LG's new superstar etc...
They will have comparable cameras and better screens

I bought the GSM Galaxy Nexus for $650 (maybe ~$100 less than the iPhone in Canada) and didn't get a good camera and battery. I'm not really using price as a consideration because it's not really irrelevant to my needs (though obviously a consideration for a lot of people). On Android, I want a good camera and battery, regardless of price, along with an unlocked bootloader, easy root, stock Android, and quick updates. The whole reason I skipped the Nexus 5 was because it didn't deliver that.
Galaxy S5, HTC One, etc. don't deliver that. The developer editions do, but again they have tradeoffs compared to the official ones (picture quality being the biggest concern, battery life also worse based on reports). If Android Silver can deliver that, I'm also interested. I'm just explaining why I'm looking at the iPhone and have no interest in convincing anybody else to...so there's that
Edit: Quick question, but where did you get the 2-year lifetime warranty for the Nexus 5? The Nexus 4 only has a 1-year warranty...I know because mine ran out and I was looking to get the audio jack replaced.
Let's wait until there's an official announcement before we discuss this

Get Nexus 6 64GB for 647USD or ...?

Hi to everyone in N6 community. I'd like to ask you for help with my dilemma:
I have Samsung Note 4 for now. I'm very dissapointed with Samsung's style of updates and "quality of software in general". I dont use S-Pen, have Note only for a big display and high-end hardware
I would like to sell my Note 4 for about 460 bucks. Now I'm decinding this variants:
- Sell Note 4 for 460 USD and get 64GB Nexus 6 for 645.
- Sell Note 4 for 460 USD and get HTC One M9 for 484 (opportunity of limited sale)
- Keep Note 4
Why? Like I said I hate Samsung's TW. But the hardware is almost the same as Nexus6 (QHD, SD805, 3200 mAh etc). On the other side: I had MS Lumia 1520 and i loved its display size and I love "playing with ROMs" and tweaks of Android. On the other side again, Note's camera is superior one. Is there any mod/app to increase quality of N6 photos (not resolution, 13 MP is fairy enough for me)?.
And finaly, 484 USD for new HTC M9 is very good too, especially for newer HW (SD810), excellent speakers and totally outstanding full-metal body (but I like Nexus 6 design very much also). Software theaking on HTC is very powerfull in my experiences with Desire HD, HTC M7 and M8. The biggest disadvantage is camera quality - the lower of these 3 phone.
Finally, Has Nexus 6 enough powerfull potencial in SW to get it even with one year old HW (same as Note4) or should i risk HTC M9 or even hang out with Note 4? The new Nexuses 5 (2015) or 6 (2015) i dont want. Its design is totally ugly IMHO.
Thanks for every opinion, have a great day
This phone is great. Specs are high and as for the camera, check out the pictures thread in general where you will find users input who use the camera more than others. Is the Amazon sale for the nexus 6 for 3XX.xx over already?
Edit : didn't answer your question lol. I would sell the note and pick up a n6 from Amazon for 399 and keep a little profit. Also you will have latest updates like marshmallow as soon as it drops. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=staff&tag=androidcentral00-20&m1k=vb_ac&th=1

Thank you for the response. Unfortunatelly this is US model XT1103. But here in the Czech republic i need an EU/Global version (XT1102?). But thanks anyway. Question remain the same: Should i add some cash for N6, or take cheaper M9 or kept my Note4 for future +/- 1,5 year without worries of performence and stability?
