CM file manager - Nexus S Themes and Apps

Hey guys.
Any thoughts or opinions about the new file manager in cm ?
I really like it.the root acces is good But it lacks a dark theme and some rotation enabled.
Also was wondering if i could use it on a non cm rom ? Maybe backup with tb ?

Ps: holy crap! You cant copy files to another folder ... you can create copy but you cant move it ? Wtf ?

Solid explorer still beats it.

I heard it can access root folders but can't open archive/zip files. The latter is a deal breaker for me. Still it's a good start

Well working on BAKED-crespo 6. Just copied to /system/app. Set permissions to rw-r--r--. Reboot and done. Well so far does whatever I want. For sure will see updates.

I'm curious because i can do everything that everyone above is claiming they can't. Hmph...

I remove it every time I update a nightly on my phone. It's probably the worst thing I've ever seen. It looks like something written for X Windows 10 years ago. The interface, design and functionality is about as basic as you get.. CM team should stick to providing stablilty and integrated options into Android and not apps that there are already 1000 better choices of.

This was the first thing that I needed to do with a file manager with my latest install. I also found this to be a huge place where this file manager is lacking. Sticking with Root Explorer for now (I already bought it, might as well keep it).

Have it installed from my latest CM10 nightly, but would really like to be able to do a MD5 checksum on it, because I always like to do this for ZIPs before flashing, just in case. Don't know how easy / feasible / possible that would be, but would be nice.

I like the interface apart from that access time sucks.... As someone mentioned solid explorer which looks similar performs a lot better.

Yes you can! Select the file you want to move (tick the box) and then go to the location where you want it pasted. Then press the button on the bottom left, and select 'Move selection here'.

Better use root explorer

[Q] Modify build.prop

I i want to modify build.prop, will i need a program to find it in my phone? i found the one in root file explorer but it wont let me modify it so i can make icons bigger . Any help for the noob. Only asking as new thread because i have friends who want to find out too...
If you long press on the file in root explorer you can thumb down to: open with text editor...
Then after you save it it automatically makes a copy of the original file just in case you need to revert

Correct, also make sure you're in r/w, not r/o otherwise it won't let you edit or save
Very true my friend! I forgot to mention that!

How do I switch to that?: -)

When you open root explorer you will see a box at the top that says Mount RW...tap on that

It ends up that I don't have root explorer and can't buy it. Is there another program like that, that I can use.

If your running cm6 estrongs file explorer has a root privileged mode

Even though you're on another phone, if your rom is in a zip format. You can simply:
- Unzip the rom
- Locate the build.prop
- Open it with wordpad or notepad++
- Edit it
- Save it
- Rezip the rom
- Flash
Well he would also have to edit the update script if he doesn't use a program like winrar or 7zip. Simply extracting the rom zip and making edits to the bp then rezipping the rom won't work. When he goes to flash it if I'm not mistaking it will give the update script error.

Here's the apk if some one wants to try. Its not a flashable zip. Extract it then install the apk.

i tried and could not get it to work, i dont know if the file was corrupt from mikel719 i re downloaded and tried it 2 times and still no luck. I used root explorer to move the .apk to system/app, set permissions, rebooted with no luck. Im not all that smart when it comes to this stuff but im sure there is someone out there that could tweek a few things to get it to work. I also tried to just click on the apk and click install and got the "problem parsing application" or whatever error thats why im thinkin the file may be corrupt? idk!
I'm not all that knowledgeable about the Android system yet on a programming level, but it probably requires resources that aren't currently in GB.
I love the ICS browser as well, but sadly I don't think it's possible to add to gingerbread.
Got it to install but force closes.

Yeah, the framework doesn't match. They've done a lot of changes to the UI so I suspect that's it. I tried when the system got dumped. Now am running an almost functional port.

If you're going to use a different browser, use Miui's (or Miren). They're much, much better than the semi-crappy ICS browser.
do u have any idea were to get the miui browser.apk ? that would be sweet

You could extract it from a rom zip. Not sure if the browser would actually work - Miui Notes wouldn't work with CM7.
Miren on the market is essentially the Miui browser, with very minor differences.

[ASK][CM7] LG Email app on CM7

Hi all,
I'm now using Temasek Kang 70/CM7. Can this ROM uses LG Emaill app? I really miss this app
Thanks!
Hmm, you have "normal" e-mail app on CM7 which IMO is better than the LG one. Is there anything missing in this app that you need the LG one?
Try to copy from /system/lib, there are 2 .so files that also need to be copy else than the apk (if im not mistaken..) something named EmailCore.so

Well stock Android email couldn't do this (or can?):
- Images put on email body instead of attachments
- Zoom in/out >> this one is really important
Currently I use TouchDown - so far soo good though, well, still free on trial period

Tablet cannot download any type of file?

First note that I am on official 4.0.4 USA rom (USA model) that is stock but rooted.
Downloads from any browser won't work (chrome/stock/firefox) but I can download off say Tapatalk or within apps. So long as the link isn't to a mirror (file sharing website) it seems that is has something to do with the "downloads" app. As if it won't accept downloading through that app. Anybody else have similar problema/found a solution.
Also if somebody doesn't mind posting the downloads app (for stock 4.0.4 p7310) and see if I can delete then install to see if that works.

I once had that prob on a froyo rom on other device. Maybe the file u r dwding isnt supported by the device. I think dolphin browser can handle this bug. It has an external dwd manager.

The files are there. It's just the Download app doesn't know that they are. Use a file explorer to look in /sdcard/Download

Thank you both for replying. After flashing a rom and still not being able to download stuff I done some cleaning up I my sdcard partion. I Found a "file" called downloads.txt. After deleting the file downloads can now happen. I believe the problem is caused but how Android manages downloads. As the was no directory for downloads it was trying to download items into /sdcard/downloads. As that directory was a file (not even sure how that one happened) and not a folder it would attempt then fail.
You should change. txt to the original file extension e.g. zip

[Q] SPH-P100 trouble installing CM10/CWM

Googled, searched, prayed, sacrificed a feature phone...no luck.
I have CWM4xxx on the Tab with RandomROM.
I want to install CM10 (p1c), but the install in CWM barfs basically saying it cant figure out that I have a SPH-P100 (error7)
I'm thinking the issue is that I need CWM5 to install CM10, but I can't find CWM5 anywhere for this tab.
yes? no? i'm an idiot?

Ok here's what you do get a zip program on ur computer I prefer winrar. Open up the ROM zip DO NOT EXTRACT IT, navigate to /META-INF/com/Google/android and open up the updater script in notepad. Start from the beginning and delete the first line up until the first semi colon you see (delete the first semi colon too ) and save and close the the zip and flash

I will give this a go, much appreciated

Did you get mobile data working in 10?
I found a sprint zip for cm9 but that kills cm10 into sitting on the bootani
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
to return to CM9 from CM10 you need to restock to GB because of the incompatible MTD partitioning.
Yea...which makes it a huge PITA to do it that way. So much stuff all over the place it makes it real hard to figure it out
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
what is the real issue? backup and restore?
Buy titanium backup pro.
Or is it hard to get stock ROM for CDMA tab?
The process of Odin/Heimdall restock is less than 5 minutes.
I did it many times (uncountable by now) on my P1000.
The actual step is where the pit file is loaded, making the partition "stock" again.
i am having the same problem can someone show me exactly what to delete?
i figured it out .
