[Scripts] USB Mass Storage (UMS) EXTERNAL SdCard for Samsung 7.7 ROM - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android Development

[Scripts] USB Mass Storage (UMS) EXTERNAL SdCard for Samsung based 7.7 ROMs
Fancy "old school" USB Mass Storage with faster file transfer to / from your EXTERNAL SdCard to WINDOWS or UBUNTU PC? Well, here you go.
I have modified the code and fully tested the scripts on my own device using my own Samsung SkyHigh ROM P6810XXLPM ICS v2.1 and successfully mounted my P6810 EXTERNAL SdCard to a Windows 7 & Ubuntu PC with no device issues.
The CWM zips were packaged by me and also tested.
Just remember, the process involves unmounting the EXTERNAL SdCard from your device, so any data etc won't be accessible by the device until / unless you revert to MTP
Requirements:
1. Rooted Samsung 7.7 ICS base ROM (init.d support required for Method #2)
2. A recent Nandroid backup in a safe place
3. An installed custom Recovery for Method #2
4. An installed app for running the script with SU privileges (ie. Script Manager, GScript etc....)
5. Possible removal of Samsung KIES from PC
6. Latest "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones.exe" (download link in Credits)
Disclaimer : As always, nandroid backup before flashing any mods & by using any of the info or scripts posted here you hereby assume full responsibility for any potential damage (however unlikely) to your device or data.
Instructions
Method #1
Confirmed to work on both Samsung P6810 & P6800 ROMs, so no need for additional attachments.
UMS Mode
1. Run app and UMS_P6810_EXTERNAL_sdcard.sh with SU privileges
2. Connect to PC USB port
3. Driver installation (may take a while), when done, your EXTERNAL SdCard should now be a mounted drive in “My Computer”
Revert to MTP
1. Eject drive from PC
2. Run app and MTP_P6810_EXTERNAL_sdcard.sh with SU privileges
Method #2 (requires init.d support - script loads each boot)
Confirmed to work on both Samsung P6810 & P6800 ROMs
++ ENSURE correct zip (P6810 or P6800) for your device !! ++
UMS Mode
1. Boot into a custom Recovery (ie. CWM) and flash UMS_P68xx_EXTERNAL_SdCard.zip
2. Connect to PC USB port
3. Driver installation (may take a while), when done, your EXTERNAL SdCard should now be a mounted drive in “My Computer”
Revert to MTP
1. Temporary - Run app and MTP_P68xx_EXTERNAL_sdcard.sh with SU privileges (will revert to UMS mode on next boot)
2. Permanent (removes init.d script) - Boot into a custom Recovery (ie. CWM) and flash Revert_to_stock_GT-P68xx_mounts.zip
After connecting in UMS mode and IF Windows fails to install the driver, the problem will be a Windows driver issue.
I am not a Windows IT expert or Help Desk ! but a couple things you might want to try if you have trouble :
a)
1. Eject & disconnect device
2. Windows update and check/install any updated Samsung Drivers
3. Reboot PC & try again
OR
b) Worked on my PC Windows7 Ultimate x86 PC & Notebook Windows7 Basic x86
1. Eject & disconnect device
2. Uninstall KIES and all its components (also, Program Files/Samsung/USB Drivers/Uninstall)
3. Reboot PC
4. Install Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones.exe (download link in Credits)
5. Reboot PC
6. Reconnect device & wait for device driver software to install and mount drive. Will take a while, so be patient.....
7. If still no good:
a) Control Panel
b) Devices & Printers
c) SAMSUNG_Android
d) Hardware → USB Mass Storage Device → properties → change settings → driver → update driver
++ Highly recommend you always EJECT your device from the PC BEFORE disconnecting the USB cable to preserve your data from corruption! ++
After every eject, you may have to reconnect the USB cable for the PC to re-initialise the new connection.

Would love to help out the MAC users out there, but I don't use one........
As your problem could be driver issue similar to that I had on my Windows7 machines, I would suggest some Googling for updated Samsung mobile USB drivers for MAC, and try again.

At time of this post, we have had 15 and 11 downloads of the Method #2 init.d support zips for P6800 model.
NO one yet confirming that Method #2 works for this model ??????????
With no complaints or feedback, should I assume it works ?

i will check method 2 for 6800 after work... method 1 working without any problem...

Confirmed by edan1979 to work.
You must be doing something wrong, or drivers aren't right.
Eject device, disconnect and reboot pc. Reconnect and wait for any driver to load. Can take a while first time.
IF method #1 works for you, there should be no reason #2 won't. Sometimes it's as simple as reconnecting the cable....

MTP Application Shows Connected But Kies keeps on connecting

Hi Guys,
I have read all the threads and fixed for Kies but i am still stuck in a tricky situation. So far i have removed all files with extension greater than 16. Then formatted SD card to be sure.
Driver Recovery done through Kies, then rebooted the phone and connected it but still no go. Also i don't have any lagfix or different HomeScreen installed. It used to connect fine earlier but one fine day it just stopped working.
OS : Windows 7 64bit
Kies : Latest version 1.5.3.10103_100
The MTP Application on phone shows connected but the KIES keeps on connecting to the phone
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The exact same thing keeps happening to me too. I just take the cable out and reconnect it immediately. Seems to work for me.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
^^ Doesn't work for me
If i remove the cable and try to connect again then i get those MTP crashes. After that i have to remove drivers and restart the phone.
I have exact same problem.I fixed MTP loop issue, phone seems to be connected but kies still search for device. If i unmount internal sd,phone is stuck in mtp loop again. Odin is probably the only option, but dont want to lost garantee.
Sent from my GT-I9000
I am in the same boat
As last resort i will try wiping off all the data if nobody can come up with a solution for this.
I have also tried that (wipe, format SD) but without success...
Sent from my GT-I9000
Two things:
First, make sure your USB settings are set to Samsung Kies and not to "Ask on Connection" or anything else...
Second, I plug in my phone... wait for the PC to detect it, THEN launch Kies... don't open Kies until your PC detects the phone (you can verify by seeing if it shows up in File Explorer)
There is a bug with the MTP Application on our phones... going to be posting a thread about it shortly.
^^ Thanx for the help...
But this tip also didn't work out for me
My PC detected the phone just fine, but when i open KIES it never changes from the Connecting status
I've tried these tips:
-let Windows (7 32b) download all drivers
-reinstall Kies (5 times)
-manually install MTP drivers
-delete all files longer 16 characters (on both SDs)
-WIPE Phone and format both SDs
-Reinstall Kies drivers (automatically in left upper menu bar)
-connect usb and choose other connection like "mass storage" (after that kies recognize connection what is strangest thing)
-try 3 versions of KIES
...still same result.
Yup I know how all of you are feeling, I have the same problems too.
KIES really is nothing but a pain in the @SS!!
Just to add to the fixes that i have tried.
- Changed com port from 9 to 12 of GT-I9000 Device - Didn't Help
- Tried Connecting from 4 different USB Ports - Didn't help
Version of MTP Drives for windows 7 64-bit is (6.1.7600.16385) 6/21/2006 , can someone please confirm if this is the latest thing ? Also for those using windows 64-bit, if KIES is working then what is the driver version and date ?
Just loaded windows once again. Installed Kies and then updated Kies to the latest version. The version for use drivers it shows is 1.3.950.0. Before re installing windows I had 1.3.450.0 which I had downloaded from xda. Do you have winamp installed. Try removing it. I had a problem with it.

Unmount external. Format internal and mount internal. Than try it.

@david : I have already tried that, it didnt work . Thanx for the suggestion though
@fulcrum : Going to check drivers, will report back.
I feel your pain. I got it to work and did the upgrade. It worked great except it was 2.1 update-1 and it was that after. However, the phone works better. Go figure.

try this fix.
1)remove any external memory card
2)on your phone, navigate to the DCIM folder, and there should be a thumbnail folder.
3)delete all the thumbnail. files. they should have a white background.
4)connect to kies
@hennes : thanx for the suggestion m8 , we have already tried that ( its the 16 char limit thingy) .

@Abhishek...I had the exact same problem.
I tried this method and it worked:
1. Go to Device manager.
2. You'll most probably see a problematic device --> GT-I9000.
3. Uninstall drivers for that device while your phone is connected to the PC.
4. Disconnect your phone and reconnect it in Kies mode.
5. Let windows search for the drivers and install them.
Once the installation completes successfully, your phone will be detected by Kies.
In case windows is unable to find the updated drivers, try installing them manually.
Hope this helps...
Abhisnek: I deside to put FroYo to my device trough odin and it works great.Im running on Doc FroYo right now.Result in quadrant are more than 200 points higer and it fixed many issues. If your phone have recovery than i recomend you do that too.I dont need kies any more.

Root Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - another way

I just finished using this guide:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/25228-how-to-rooting-gt-p3113-step-by-step-updated-052412/
The process works well and doesn't require ADB on the host PC. Some things I noticed:
I would not install the linked USB drivers. They didn't work for me on XP or Win7. Install the Kies software from:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/GT-P3113TSYXAR
It has the USB drivers. Then you may want to uninstall right away as the program is bloated and worthless in my opinion. Drivers are kept after uninstall (if you don't choose to remove them).
I could not get my Win7x64 PC to work with the root process. The device was not recognized when it was in download mode. I also could not use the Win7 PC to root my Kindle. I used an XP laptop for the procedure. Not sure what the problem was.
If your device is not being recognized by Windows while tablet is in download mode, it will not show up in odin.
The steps include using a secondary sdcard. I already had one. I'm not sure if you could use the internal storage if you don't have an external card.
Otherwise the process was fairly straightforward as far as rooting processes tend to be.

Hi AEZ_BEST,
if i have understood well you actually have a stock rom (may be rooted) and htc_sync package installed on pc.
OK, trying this:
go there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950759 and download new version of 1-click root for tattoo (which occasionally you can use to easily root tattoo and install CWM recovery):
decompress dowloaded package into c:\rtatto folder
set tattoo to use ADB (android debug bridge) instead of mounting as a removable drive, it's possible but i not remember where the option is (sorry but two years and half that i not have stock rom installed ) and connect tattoo to pc [maybe it ask for ABD when you connect]
open cmd as administrator and issue these two commands
Code:
cd c:\rtatto
adb devices
it should reports you the list of attached devices
if your tattoo is in the list you can lately use adb to push the rom you wanna flash on sdcard.
Ops, i don't know if you have yet installed CWM recovery, if not look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27174485&postcount=129

A little off topic:
After UMS_mode.apk does not work for me, here is another way to access both memory cards in the P880 (and any other Android-Device) from Windows OS:
Install Total Commander (Shareware): http://www.ghisler.com
Install Total Commander Plugin "Android ADB" (Freeware): http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/android_adb.html
Android device driver has to be installed too!
Through links, both SD-Cards appear with 3 differen pathes in the P880 operating system.
The external SD-Card has its mount point in (!) the internal SD-card:

Wow!
This is the greatest thing created for this phone so far.
MTP is painfully slow, doesn't work with cars/stereos/etc, requires installing drivers everywhere I go, crashes all the time, doesn't allow access with a file path, and somehow caused my sd card to wipe itself three times in two weeks, so this was a major issue for me that was making me regret buying the phone.
Initially after installing this app (v3.0), I had to repeatedly toggle UMS/MTP mode and plug/unplug my phone from the computer several times before it finally started working, but now it's perfect.
If you have a paypal or flattr link, and I'll send something your way. Or put it on the Play Store so I can buy it and update
Thanks!

Then I restarted the phone, without starting the APP before.
Now it hangs on startup LG boot logo.
Even without the second SD card the same problem.
Any idea without factory reset or flashing KDZ?
My phone is still stuck in boot, but I have an access via adb shell to system.
Unfortunately I have no permission to access "/data"
Could anyone tell me the aplication name of this UMS-Tool under "/data/data" ?
I only found "com.noshufou.android.su" in classes.dex, but don't know wether this is right:
Code:
[email protected]:/data $ run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as com.noshufou.android.su
run-as: Package 'com.noshufou.android.su' is unknown
[email protected]:/data $
Ok, I guess it's not quite working perfectly for me now that I've used it a bit more, but I still love it.
1) it's really tricky to get it working initially. I almost always have to toggle it multiple times and sometimes reconnect the usb cable.
2) like someone else mentioned, it never remounts the SD card so I have to restart the phone to get it working again after I'm done.
I have not had any problems on boot like BudCord.
I'm running stock firmware 10f.
Anyone have v3 hosted any where else? I can't download from media fire.. no captcha support..
Tried stock browser, dolphin, and chrome..
Any chance to get it working on mac os x (10.6.8) ?
For the moment it is the only default i found with this phone : the lack of "connections" with Apple's OS :/
PS : I searched on the web and I found a solution for Mac OS X users : Android File Transfer (on the official website).
Sorry I can not the url because I am new on this forum.

[SOLVED] Windows 7 can't recognize Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070

Hi everybody,
I have a 64-bit PC with Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 and a Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 with Android 4.1.2.
I can't install a driver in order to make Windows recognize correctly the phone when I connect it via USB cable.
I've installed and uninstalled Samsung Kies many times with no results. I've also tried some Samsung driver from Windows Update with no success...
When I connect the phone, it is recognized as a MTP Device and the driver installation starts, but always ends with an error, as shown in the attached screen-shot image.
What can I do?
Thank you very very much.
Note: in another PC with WinXP I have no problems.
Firstly make sure phone can run MTP (make sure if you delete MTP releated stuff in system you won't able connect it. Re-flash with Odin) Now if you don't have problem with phone then uninstall drivers & KIES from Windows. Don't just do a uninstall clear temp files, dll files, registry entries (you can use CCleaner) then install THIS DRIVERS.

Hello, thank you for your answer.
How can I make sure my phone can run MTP?
For the complete uninstall, is it enough to run CCleaner, uninstall Kies and then perform the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner?
Thank you

Did you root phone ? or installed a ROM or you just using it stock ?
I noticed something too; if you any have PIN or Password you have to unlock phone otherwise MTP not works. Unlock it and try too.
CCleaner will *probably* be enough but if you want to make sure go to regedit.exe and go to;
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/
Then delete KIES & USB Driver stuff (don't delete system USB configs & drivers just Samsung's softwares )
EDIT: In start menu click to RUN (or whatever I don't now it's name in English, you're entering a text) Then write
Code:
%AppData%
Then delete KIES & Samsung folders and files.
I've just Updated the phone firmware from Android 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 with Samsung Kies on my WinXP PC.
I've deleted all Samsung Kies registry entries.
Now I'm going to install the driver you suggested...

I've also installed Windows MTP Porting Kit, but it still fails...
Any idea?..
I think it is the configuration of this PC, because in another brand new PC with Windows 7 I've installed Kies and it all went right.

This may be a bit silly but is important to ask.
Was your PC connected connected to the internet while installing the drivers??
Did you unplug your phone while the drivers were being installed??

I've just tried to reboot the phone before connecting it to the PC, but I get the same error (see attachments).
Last year I managed to connect the phone to this PC, but, in any case the connection got interrupted after a while (see this thread).
I don't know what to do...
I had the same problem when i formatted my PC 2 days ago. I did some trial and error and it worked.
1. Dont use any USB Hub if you are using.
2. Remove the Pattern lock or any password security etc. Go to lock screen and select 'None'. (I dont know why but windows doesn't recognise if the device is locked)
3. Have Kies installed. Even new version worked for me. I used 2.5.13043_14
4.Connect your device with the USB cable (Should have MTP option selected which is by default)
5. Windows automatically recognises now and installs the necessary files.
P.S:- Remove the security pattern, etc. It really works.
If worked then pls reply.
Hello,
I've disable any screen lock on my phone and I've connected the USB cable to another USB port (a 3.0 USB port) and Windows magically recognized correctly the device! (no Kies installed, only drivers)
Anyway, after some minutes of usage (cut-paste of files). Windows stopped recognizing the device...
If I disconnect the phone and then connect it back, Windows still recognizes it, but I have few minutes until the device stops being recognized and no file on it can be read...
See attached pictures

Did you download newest version of drivers? I see in your screenshot it says 2012, on mine it is 2014.
Did you set Windows to gather drivers automaticaly from the internet?

This is how my PC recognizes my phone. The driver seems to be old, but I've configured Windows for downloading drivers automatically and that is all it can do.
Today, th PC did not recognized the phone at once. Then I unmounted and mounted back the MicroSD card and the PC recognized it.
But, after few seconds of folder browsing, the PC lost the connection. I'm thinking that the problem is the SD card.
Solved!
Solved!
It was the USB cable.
I replaced it with an original one and now it works.
Thank you everybody for your effort!
