... AT&T is going to be offering it (920) for just $99.99 on a two-year contract and is even willing to throw in a free wireless charging pad....
... Lumia 820 is still a decent piece of kit. And not surprisingly it's cheaper still than the 920 at $49.99....
... HTC's 8X is set to start at $99.99 for the 8GB version, going up to $199.99 for the model with 16GB of memory....
ok, I guess microsofts' explanation of surface pricing (too high) to make it not seem like a cheap product doesn't apply to subsidized phones through the carrier.
if we don't see microsoft bragging about "x million sold first weekend !!! weeee !!! " next week, we never will at these great prices.

AT&T is more than 70% iPhone.
They have no choice but to have aggressive pricing with this carrier. I wouldn't be surprised if these phones were free during the holidays.
Other news Office is confirmed for ios and Android.

This is crazy. Seems like every other day something happens that make me change my mind. Initially i was going with the 920 the when i heard it was only coming out for ATT I changed to the 8x since it's on Verizon. ATT really sucks out here in Long Island and it doesn't offer LTE in my area while Verizon does. But the 920 at $99 is something that i can't ignore. Hopefully Verizon will come out with their pricing fairly soon.

Apparently Best Buy already has the Verizon price for the 8x at $199 for the 16gb version. Now the question is, are these prices going to be better on black friday.

Is T-Mobile Doing Anything?

As an N1 owner my contract is close to being up in early Jan but I haven't seen a single neat phone for them that is coming out.
Are they even doing/planning anything? Anyone know?
I really don't care which phone company I go with but a cheaper plan / more Internet GBs is always better and my N1 plan is pretty damn nice compared to other current plans.
If you are on T-Mo why not buy whatever phone you want? Unlike other service providers they give you a discount for have non-subsidized hardware. Talk to their customer service they can get you some pretty nice deals. From a price and phone freedom perspective it is hard to beat T-mobile.

I agree completely. The best they've got to offer right now is the Samsung Galaxy S II...But the single fact that its' got the robust 4.5" screen, but merely 800x480 rez is ludicrous to me and puts it out of upgrade consideration.
The 2 main upgrade contenders for me are the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note...Both of which seem to have no interest in TMo.
I don't know if it's Google's or TMo's doing, but offering a Nexus phone for TMo for the last 2 generations of the phone...To then switch to Verizon only on the 3rd gen is a damned rotten thing to do!
republicwireless.com announces their plan tomorrow. Might be worth it to check and sign up.

If you haven't actually held and played with a GS2 you might want to before you dismiss it outright. I had the same feelings untill I held one at a Tmo store and was very impressed, you would never know it is only 800x480, the screen is beautiful. having said this I also am holding out for now and looking forward to the Galaxy Nexus or ?
I actually handled the GS2 and I have to agree that the screen looks fantastic despite the lower resolution. It's also amazingly thin & light, more than the N1.

Buying the N7000 from Amazon

Hello, I am interested in getting the Galaxy note. I am on ATT service. I know the phone is coming here soon, but after examining it I would really like to get the international version with the guaranteed ICS upgrade, and the Exynos chip.
I was wondering if it is safe to buy it from Amazon?
I cant post a link here, but it is called
Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 16gb Unlocked Android Smartphone in White
And it is sold by FGS Trading and Fulfilled by Amazon.
I read a couple of threads here that said to watch out for certain sellers of the phone, and I dont want to buy one that will not be able to get the updates.
Is that one safe to buy?
Bought mine off Amazon, came from Germany (DBT code) in December. Has worked perfectly on at&t. Just input the APN (found on here) and you should be good to go. Now that at&t is releasing it, if you buy one off Amazon, it should say that it has a home button, unlocked and not branded by a carrier.
Is yours from FGS Trading?
I just found another one in white from WorldWide Distributors.
Maybe they are a better company to deal with, I'm not sure. Ive never bought a phone from Amazon before
I purchased from amazon. Mine was sold by and fullfilled by amazon.com (as opposed to sold by someone else) and supposedly has a US Warranty. Personally, I think this is a safer bet than one of those sold by a 3rd party through amazon for a few reasons:
1. amazon prime overnight shipping for only 3.99 USD
2. if there are problems, its easy to talk to amazon directly to resolve them.
3. if the "US Warranty" isn't exactly true, I can just return the device directly to amazon without any hassles or run arounds.
4. I had an issue with the first Note amazon sent me. I called them up and they shipped, overnight, a replacement Note. They did this at their own expense BEFORE I sent back the defective one without any additional credit card charges. They also sent me a pre-paid UPS shipping label to send back the defective one. (Which reminds me, I need to send the first one back to amazon...)
Take care
Gary
I just got mine two days ago from Amazon. Went with the white one from Global Mobiles and definitely do not regret it. Phone came in perfect and about 18 hours after I ordered it (have to love that prime shipping). As said earlier, put in the apn found here for Internet and also one for mms's and you should be fine - that's what worked for me.
Additionally, in ordering it from Amazon and getting the unlocked one, you don't have to deal with AT&T's slow update track record, but you will have enough access to their LTE of you're in one of the markets where it is available as well as local insurance. It's a trade off, as they are different devices on the inside. I believe even it's a sticky here, check it out.
Either way, I don't think you'll go wrong this device.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Yeah I understand that they are different devices, thats why I would like to purchase the unlocked one. I live in an LTE area, but I really want the Exynos chip that is in the international version. Everywhere I go I have wifi, so LTE isnt a big concern for me. And I understand that LTE eats lots of battery. Maybe in two years when LTE is better, and the chipsets for it are not as demanding, I will upgrade.
Since I want to get the white version, amazon itself doesnt sell it. I have to go through 3rd party sellers.
Anybody ever dealt with Goodios?
I think I will order it today, and I can get it on tuesday.
If you are east coast USA I can recommend AT GSM in New York. Quick process and shipment.
I got mine from Amazon-Global Mobiles. Since it is fulfilled by Amazon, you get the Amazon return policy etc. You can certainly feel safe buying from Amazon.

T-Mobile Price Hike

Was at my local T-Mobile store last night and I noticed that it retails for $549 now?
I love my Nexus 4, but at $549 off contract, the value goes out the window... From that standpoint and as little advertising as I have noticed, it's directly in competition with devices like the S3. IMO, bad move here, whether by T-Mobile or LG, that will hurt LG in the long run!
No it won't. Every one does this. It is hiked to $550 so that people will buy it on contract. If you go to best buy you will notice that their off contract prices are $100 more than carrier off contract prices. The nexus is still only $350 in the play store. Whenever that is in stock.

T-Mobile and other retailers always sold it at "regular" pricing. Granted it's still cheaper than most phones similar to it. The LG Optimus G that this phone is based off is $800 off contract. The Galaxy S3 when that came out was about $700. You may think $549 is a lot for just a "phone" but then you could say this is a bargain compared to long ago, $3,000 was the cost of a phone then.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Price War Is Already Happening

We’re still a week away from the Samsung Galaxy S5′s Australian launch, and the price-cutting battle between telcos, online stores and retailers is already happening. If you’re willing to wait a week or two for your new phone to be shipped over from Hong Kong, you can find a great discounted deal.
Millennius.com has the black 16GB SM-G900 Galaxy S5 for $779, as well as white — that’s the cheapest price we’ve seen online so far for an outright handset. Kogan has the same model for $849 in all four colour variants, as well as a $999 32GB capacity, but all stock has apparently already been snapped up. MobiCity wants $899 for the 16GB, but unlike Kogan is still taking orders. These phones will almost certainly be international units coming from Hong Kong, where prices are lowest for grey importers to source their inventory.
eBay prices are depressingly high; the cheapest you’ll find a 16GB model is $958 with free postage, and $1079 for 32GB. If you want to buy a discounted new Galaxy S5, you might like to have a look at Melbourne-based Millennius.
mobicity went from 899 to 849 then sold out. now its back at 899 lol.
never buying from mobicity again after my experience with my xperia z
EDIT: oh, this isnt a retailer, but there are S5s going for 699USD on ebay and it has free shipping to Australia. can't link here since im at school
Thanks for that, I will be buying one on the weekend from them after I get paid from work.

I dont think the ebay ones are legit when you have these companies that are selling them cheap compared to the big brick retailers.
I dont think you can go lower then them at this stage, there almost approaching the S4 price if ebay is legit which I dont think so

Yes here exynos is official version. The price is bit surprising as note 3 was launched here for $830. I was expecting the $850 for s5.

yeah, here in australia the price of S5 is 849 to 899, S4 launched for 749 here i believe. :/
I pre-ordered mine from AT&T the other day. The no contract price is $650.
I found the Octa Core exynos cheap on Ebay ($650ish), but I want the snapdragon one.
I just went on millenius.com and it turns out they only do bank transfer and something else for payment.
no paypal option seems super shady to me..
I went to the local electronics store in Herzliya and they told me 2,600.00 shekel ($745.844) which is actually less than I thought it would be. I thought it would be more like 4000 haha.

Note 4 - Canadian Thread

So far we've been left in the dark as to the release day and price of the Note 4 but here is all the information that I have so far.
Pre-order Info:
Samsung Stores (Brick and Mortar) are doing a "pre-order" where you can either stop in or call and leave your information and which color of phone you want. When they get either a demo model or the actual phones to sell (my guess is the former), they'll contact you so you can have a look and secure your pre-order. My guess is that at this point they may require a deposit but I'm not 100% sure on that, neither was the person I spoke with.
Best Buy and Future Shop are also doing a pre-order where you have to put $50 down and you can save 20% off an accessory when the phone comes in. This is in store only. Scroll down a bit to see the advert, and it doesn't mention the $50 deposit online however it said that in the flyer.

Costco
I spoke with someone at Wireless Etc. which is located in Costco stores and he said that they had training on Oct. 7 for the Note 4 and that he presumed it would be an Oct. 17 launch day however nothing for the launch date had been confirmed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2888858
Expansys.ca will ship "no later than Thursday" of you want to give them all your money. Apparently.
Don't
Before giving them 1000$+ be sure the model # is sm-n910w8 or else you will be very disappointed.

I know, I find it completely ridiculous that so many of us WANT to spend our money on their phones, but it's so god damn difficult. My brother wanted an iPhone 6, he got it no problem. Me? Wait several weeks after launch and still don't get a price or delivery date... then have to find loopholes to get an unlocked phone without selling my right arm in the process.
Yo, Sammy! I've got money, so let me spend it! :victory:
Well have you seen how the iphone 6 launch was rushed. All the iOS 8 problems and iphone 6 issues. Samsung want to keep those problems as minimal as possible. The wait is going to be worth it

I don't mind a wait, but we don't even know how long we'll be waiting or how much we'll have to spend in the end. It's a really poor business practice.

It sucks too because I am in the position where renewing on a 2 year contract and losing my amazingly cheap 6GB plan would cost me more in the long run then buying the phone out right.
So I will be buying mine in full (hopefully not outrageously priced).
I find it ridiculous that they don't allow us to buy an unlocked clean from carrier bloat version off their website, however there is way if you live in Vancouver lol. In the Metrotown mall there is our 1 and only Samsung store in Canada and you can get the phones from there and I believe they are unlocked but you half to walk in to get them >_<
However unlocking a carrier one isn't a big deal anymore, because of the new CRTC ruling the carriers half to give you unlock codes if you want them and its limited to a max price of $50, but you can simply go to one of those 3rd party cell unlocking sites and get the Samsung unlock codes for your phone for $30 which is what I've always done to unlock my phones from Bell.
What bothers me too is that some places won't even sell a no term Note 4. I understand with the iPhone that Apple bars the selling of no term phones for 3 months because they want customers to come directly to them. However with Samsung it's different as there are not nearly as many Samsung stores as Apple stores and no matter what you can't buy the phone unlocked from Samsung it had to be liked to a carrier. They need to offer the phone through their online store and retail stores unlocked, it's as simple as that. Whether they ever smarten is another story.
The same goes for their launches, take a page out of Apple's book and have everything ready and 2 weeks out at most after the initial release party. Also they need to have prices when they do the unveiling. For all of us here it will be delayed gratification as we're getting the phone we know we want. But what about the how many other people out there that didn't want to wait and are now owning a new 6+. They may have the (imo) inferior device but they also didn't give Samsung a dime. People want things now at least in North America and are not willing to wait.
What does everyone think the Note 4 will cost? Same price as last year? I can't think off hand if the dollar has changed much in they last year which would bump our costs up. American pricing seems the same as last year I believe so maybe $750?
So it looks like it's Oct. 17 for Canada http://mobilesyrup.com/2014/10/01/samsungs-galaxy-note-4-to-arrive-in-canada-on-october-17/
It's funny because I had just talked to 2 Telus stores, and one said either the 4th or 14th and the other said their was a dealer forum happening on the 9th so it would be just before our after that.
Still no pricing yet.

All the Canadian Note 4 firmware's have been released on Samsung's Kies firmware update servers, Sammobile has them downloaded already for anyone who wish to get them as well. This is good news for us as Samsung Canada has a habit of making sure the firmware's are pre-available close to a release date to make sure that things go smoothly and on the off chance something needs to be reinitialized the full firmware is there for repair/recovery.
So with this our version of the phone should be just around the corner ^_^ , lets hope for no delays!

What model from what region did you get? Most likely though you do not have the LTE access with the imported phone or only 2600MHz band in select few citys which isn't very good.

Often outside of North America a lot of phones firmware's will use the term 4G for H+ (because of a technicality) and then for LTE they will show it as 4GLTE or just LTE.
You should be able to find more information on what the phone is using in the About section.
Thats not the case. It switches between 4G and H+. I use slingplayer everynight on my commute home. There is always minimum 4 spots where the video cuts out for at least 30 seconds each time. Tonight, my first with this device, never happened once. Also the clarity of the pictures and colour was bar far better than any other device ive used. My last 3 devices were Note 3, Z2 and LG G 3. Suggest somewhere for me to do a speed test and ill post results tomorrow.
Hope this info helps people.
