100 NFC tags for 25p per one - Galaxy Note II Accessories

So, I was looking on ebay and I found a seller from Hong Kong that's selling 100 NFC chips for £24.99, which is an INCREDIBLE price. They do them in either keyring tags, or cards. Whatever tickles your fancy. You can find them here!
As soon as I get them and test them out, I'll let you guys know how they are!

stupid question, but how would you program these?

Nah, NFC is a standard so pretty much any decent app will work well to program and erase your NFC tags.

you can start with:
1. pun it on your door (on the way out), to turn wifi on/off
2. near bed : 1 for calendar, and 1 for reminder, 1 to turn on air plane mode (so nothing will disturb your sleep)
3. near you pc/mac : 1 for calendar, and 1 for reminder, 2 for emails
4. on your car dashboard to open maps / navigon
5. 1 on the living room to open remote app
6. 1 in your wallet to open bank app
7. 1 on the gym bag to open gym app
8. last but not least, pull your spen n scribble to figure out what to do with the rest 88 of it
i myself only use no 1,2,4,7

Yea those are good uses...I think I've just been too lazy and haven't taken the time to program and use my tags LOL. I'm going to figure out a good use for these things. If more people used NFC, I would probably buy 100 of them and give them out or sell them for $1 each lol.

I was looking at buying some NFC tags and had a question.
I want to put one on my car mount. I want it to turn bluetooth on and some other things. But what I'm wondering is, if I pull my phone away from the tag, will it turn bluetooth back off?

You need to create a tag that toggles the settings you want. That way whenever you're leaving your car, you just tap your phone against the tag and then it turns off your bluetooth. However, I'm not sure how that works if you set it to open a program and then you want to close that program.
For example, a tag could contain the following commands for a car profile:
1. Turn off wifi
2. Toggle bluetooth
3. Set volume to max
4. Toggle bluetooth
5. Open music player
You would tap the phone against the tag upon entering the vehicle and it would perform those actions. Now when you leave the car, you might want your volume turned off to vibrate or silent, and you probably want to close the music player. Short of writing a separate tag, to perform those actions, I'm not sure how you would accomplish the latter two tasks with the commands from the first tag I just listed. It might be possible with Tasker, but I don't have any experience with that app since I can't convince myself to spend $6.50 on it lol.

But still it sucks that you have to unlock the phone and use nfc

I use the NFC to turn my Bluetooth on and off in the car as well. I have a NFC keychain that I programmed to turn everything off and set the phone up for use away from the house / car (Ringer to loud, vibrate on, GPS on, Wifi off, Bluetooth off etc.) then when you leave the car or house you can reset your phone settings.

Yeah, but since these 100 dog tags work out at the same price as 20 dog tags and are essentially the same, why bother getting 20? Me and my friend are halving in for them because we wouldn't ever use 100. And so I'm getting 50 for the price of 10. I'm sure I'll find uses, eventually. Like sharing programs I produce or something.

In short, no. The bluetooth will stay on. Once it has scanned the NFC tag, it won't scan it again until you put your phone up against it for a second time. You have three basic options with bluetooth enabling: On, Off, and Toggle. I'd imagine that's straight forward. But your best bet is using the toggle selection just to turn the things back off again when your journey is done.

These are the exact same ones I put up. Well, in a different colour and with an advertisement on it. You'll find that all companies just bulk buy the tags from the same sellers in China, Korea and other places like that. Only difference being, the ones I put up work out a lot cheaper. The only time the tags will be different is if you go onto a website and buy them from direct manufacturers, because they do different ranges of them. But, that's expensive and aimed more towards businesses.

Sorry about that did not mean to repost the same stuff. I could not look at the link you posted because I am at work and they block ebay. Was just trying to give some ideas about returning the phone back to normal setting when you leave the car / house etc.
I have been using NFC since my EVO LTE and have the stickers all over the place now.

Aha that's quite alright. But yeah, NFC is handy when you find the uses for them. But sadly since I only ordered keychains, I need to get a few stickers too.

NFC has come in really handy for my non tech savvy wife. She was always asking me to do stuff on the phone so I just programmed a bunch of stickers for common stuff and now she just scans them. Technology is making my life a little easier a little at a time. :good:

Actually I just figured this out today. It's quite simple using NFC Task Launcher
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jwsoft.nfcactionlauncher&hl=en
This app creates "tasks," two if which can be put into a "switch." For example, the first task I created was "Car Enter." It does the following:
1. Disable wifi
2. Enable Bluetooth
3. Set ringer type normal
4. Set ringer volume to 7 (this may make step 3 redundant, but it doesn't hurt)
5. Set media volume to 12
6. Enable auto-rotation
7. Launch music player
Then I created a second task called "Car Leave." It does the following:
1. Disable bluetooth
2. Set ringer type vibrate
3. Set ringer volume 0
When I get into the car, I tap against the tag once and it loads task 1, which is "Car Enter." When I leave, I tap against the tag again to load "Car Leave."
Pretty straight forward once you play with the program. So far I've used one tag properly and given another to my friend lol.

I got one programmed for connecting to my password protected wifi for guests. also use for alarm clock.
I play Magic: The Gathering and put a TecTile on the inside of my deck box lid and it reads it with the box closed from the outside. i have it set to open up a life counter program that i have preset with 1 player and my name. It works pretty well. I might buy 100 of the cards and see if i can print onto them and give them out as business cards for my repair business

anyone wants to split the package 50/50 lol i dont know wat the hell im going to do with 50, but definitely better than 100 lol
Im willing to pay like $20 USD if anyone wants to split

[Q] route calls and texts to tab via bluetooth?

Are there any apps out there for android that allow you to connect your phone via bluetooth to the tablet and have any calls or texts get routed to the tab just like most car bluetooth systems do? Would love to have the tab replace the entire car system. Nav and music is great but this would put it over the top!!
I know it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but if your tab has a cell number you can always configure your phone to forward texts to it...
You want yo use the tab as a bluetooth car-kit?
Neat idea
I just bought a new car stereo that had bluetooth. Now my music, nav directions and calls go through my car speakers

Can do that pretty easy but what I want is the Tab to be the head unit and pull the calls and texts from the droid phone. The tab is a way cooler and programmer friendly device than any stereo head unit. If someone could point me to any exampls of accessing the bluetooth stack I may find the time to dig in to it myself.
OHH man, i work for Vodafone NZ, and I've been playing with the tab for a few days now. IT IS AWESOME. I have been trying to find a solution to this exact thing. I would love to have the TAB and another android phone (prob galaxy 580) but only have one number, when i'm using the tab i want call and txt to go to there, when I'm not i want to use the phone... get back to me if you have any ideas, i know you can route 3G connection... thats a start...
Food for Though
One more note: is Bluetooth the best option? The tab also has WIFI....?
What does the new blackberry play-book use to connect the blackberry phone? They can reportedly do this exact thing....
Textab
Found Textab after hours of google only works for text messages... can be found on the market here's is the link to the creator http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-apps/6931-textab-sms-send-sms-through-your-android-phone-via-your-android-tablet.html
i wish i could find something like the "BlackBerry Bridge" for our android devices would be awesome
I just posted this about TexTab and our Tab 7:

There is a link in that thread to the point in the developer's thread where I discuss it... and today I posted screenshots in the developer's thread as well.

I would pay for an app like that. Essentially it would be exactly as you stated, an app that makes your tab function like a car head unit, or bluetooth headset, having the ability to control your phones call functions and media controls. With the added ability to send and receive text messages.
I remember back in the day someone showed me a program on a PocketPC (may have been an iPAQ) that had SIM card access over bluetooth, depending on the bluetooth stack on the phone it should have been able to control phone calls over bluetooth.
Would love to see something like this on the SGT.
SyncSMS
Textab. From Samsung apps seems to work OK. It's sounds like its should be better/more fun than it really ends up being IMO but its a cool "LAN party" trick geek style

[Q] SmartTags

Hi!
Just a short question about the SmartTag functionality.
Let's say I'll put one SmartTag into my car. By touching it with the Z, I want Bluetooth to be switched on, and let's say GPS. When leaving the car, can I touch the SmartTag again to switch off Bluetooth and GPS, or do I have to turn them off manually?
What do you think? Do you have any experience with those SmartTags?
Thanks and have a nice day.

You can program two tags, one two switch on bluetooth and gps and one to turn off bluetooth and gps
OR you can program it to switch on bluetooth and gps and keep the phone on top of the tag and then to switch it off as soon as you remove it from the tag

what a shame. that's more than inconvenient. then i need to have two SmartTags for each "situation/location context". and keeping the phone on top of the tag isn't useful either.
maybe we can setup the smarttag to toggle options everytime it is touched?!

Possibly, i'm going off my brothers Xperia T, he received free tags, you could potentially keep a battery saving tag on your keyring, so essentially when you touch it it will switch off, bluetooth, wifi, GPS, etc, assuming your outside, so one you get in the car, maybe get a windscreen dock and stick one on there, everytime you dock it, bluetooth on, gps on, run navigation or something, then when you get out, just tag it to your key to switch off all wireless options besides Data,
I'm not sure about the toggles you will have to check that out,

[Q] Fuelband as a Trusted Bluetooth Device?

So I am eagerly awaiting my Cyber Monday (Wednesday) Moto X and while doing so, I've been browsing through accessories I might want to enhance my Moto Xperience, and I really want to take advantage of the Trusted Bluetooth Device along with Touchless Controls.
I've been searching around, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer, just off-to-the-side mentions of its use.. I have a Nike Fuelband SE that has BTLE. Nike doesn't support AndroidOS, so there's no dedicated app for it. I am, however, able to discover it with my current phone (Droid 4).
So basically, does anyone know if I will be able to use my Fuelband as a Trusted Bluetooth Device, or how I might go about doing that? I guess I could find some BL keychain if there was no way to use it.
Thanks ahead of time for your replies and help.
If your droid 4 can see it I can't see why the moto x won't. Once you connect to a Bluetooth device it will ask you if you want to make it a trusted device. If it doesn't the setting is under security. I can't see why it wouldn't work. Good luck.
Sent from my XT1060 using xda app-developers app
Thanks. I was concerned because it didn't actually support Android, but was hoping it could simply act as a dummy BTLE device. Got an e-mail from Fedex telling me it's arriving today so I'll test it out and come back here with what I've got
If anyone happens to be interested, the Fuelband SE isn't continuously syncing via Bluetooth to the Moto X. It pairs, and the Moto X asks if I want to make it a trusted device, but the notification tray icon never turns blue. It doesn't seem to be able to continuously sync. Too bad I was really looking forward to this.
If anyone knows a way around this, please let me know. Thanks!

have you done any other testing? kit kat got rid of the blue theme. the icons are either orange (no connection), white (connected) or dark (disabled).
I just tried it with a bluetooth headset and the icon turns and stays white. With the Fuelband connected, it just stays sort of grayed out.
Working!
This has been pushed back due to what I assume is a lack of interest for, but in case someone else decides to figure this out or something similar to it, I have managed to get the Fuelband SE to "sync" with the Moto X and act as a Bluetooth Trusted Device.
There's an app on the Play store called "Bluetooth Auto Connect" that you can set to sync with the Fuelband (and what I assume would be any device) and it will do so automatically. The icon stays greyed out, but turning the Fuelband's BT on and off in turn pops up that Trusted Device notification on the Moto X.
I hope this helps someone else with any type of random trusted device need.
Cheers

Oh, I thought you were referring to what I can do with the pairing to the Moto X.
I've been using the fitness aspect of the Fuelband since March 2012. The newest one that I have now I can use to track my general activity throughout the entire day, tag specific workout sessions in order to keep track of my workout intensity over time, track hours of sleep, and set goals for myself (via # of Fuel points) every day to give me an activity level to reach for. Since there's no Android app or any sort of Android support on Nike's end, I do all my data syncing through my PC.
And now I can use it to keep my phone unlocked when it's on me
I've got a Pebble syncing fine and enabled as a trusted device but my bluetooth icon is always greyed out. I think it only turns white when there's an audio connection like with a headset or stereo.

Makes sense why mine is grayed out too. Pebble supports Android though, and since there's no support/app for the Fuelband on Android, I had to use the auto bluetooth connect app to force a pairing to make it a trusted device. Was close to buying a Pebble though. Saw it was on sale for $90.

Thanks for the info on the app!
By using this app to ensure a connection, how long does your Fuelband SE battery last? I suspect it has shorten considerable from when you were not using BT at all.
Also, since there are at least 2 battery sizes depending on the band size (circumference), which size is yours?

Android auto is just a remote display and sound, isn't it? I don't find it particularly interesting since it *depends* on the phone for the "android" aspect. It is a much better option to install an Android HU in the car, then it isn't functionally dependent on the phone.
Not sure if you're asking or telling.

It is a mobile application for using your phone in a car. It displays on the cars touch screen and is controlled by voice commands. It only uses the bluetooth stack for phone calls, all other sound and video comes from the phones usb port. This equates to better audio and clear, crisp video. By the way, it only works on the latest Android HU.
i've been using it with my Pioneer 4100-NEX, it works quite well. i wish you could swipe away cards and have more notifications push though (ie, sms and hangouts come through, but not facebook messenger)
all in all i'm pretty happy with it, it's fast, simple, pretty and i've been pleasantly surprised with how responsive the resistive screen on the HU is.

If you want to try out Android Auto you can sign up for the beta of the app called AutoMate. First you'll need to join the beta group in Google+. Next you'll have to agree to be a beta tester with google play. Then you'll finally be able to download the app. I have been using the app for a couple of days now and I personally think that it is great. Its just like Android Auto, at least from what i've seen in all of the android auto demos. I have a pretty good car mount that can fit the nexus 6 so when I took a 4 hour trip this weekend everything worked flawlessly. The best part is that you've already got a giant 6 inch capacitive screen, why not use it instead of paying at least $800 for the cheap resistive screen version of the pioneer head units.
I have a pretty interesting issue where my Android Wear watch (Moto 360) is being CONSTANTLY pinged by my Nexus 6 while plugged into Android Auto. For the life of me, I can't figure out why. Maps is the only app I use regularly in Android Auto and I have it muted on Android Wear...yet, it's draining my Moto 360 battery QUICKLY every time I plug in. It's the strangest thing. I've had to start putting my 360 into Airplane mode to avoid problems while driving. As soon as I unplug the Nexus from my Android Auto HU, I then have to reconnect my 360 in the Android Wear app...or else it won't reconnect and continues to drain battery.
Seriously the weirdest thing.
yeah I have the pioneer 4100nex and originally was using a Moto G and it works great and then I preorderd the ATT galaxy S6 Edge and received it on tuesday, well the S6 edge doesn't work with the Android Auto, so I returned it and just bought google play edition Nexus 6 64gb, and works perfect, I really like the google navigation, reads texts and you can voice reply to the texts, you can play your google music, I`m very happy with it.:good:
That is not the purpose of this thread.

If you want to try out Android Auto you can sign up for the beta of the app called AutoMate. First you'll need to join the beta group in Google+. Next you'll have to agree to be a beta tester with google play. I like to believe we all know how to use our phones hands free in a car and need no special app to do that. That's the way most of us have been doing it for the past six years or so since the smartphones came out. A simple bluetooth radio used to give you all you needed paired with your phones screen. But now it's much easier to get into your car, plug your device into your hidden USB port and let it charge with screen off and have a heads up display on your radios big screen while the audio is streamed through USB and the only thing using the bluetooth stack is the phone part of the phone. Sound quality is vastly improved and everything runs so much smoother. Plus the steering wheel controls for answering calls, activating OK google and other voice related options allows you to keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel.

First if your car already has Bluetooth like mine then you still have all of the same controls as the actual android auto head units. Also just like on my phone it's not like you can just say OK Google with the music playing but if the music isn't at least I can just say OK Google even with the screen off as well and will get a response. More that likely a person will still end up looking at the device or take their hands off of the wheel when giving a command. I mean come on, Google now works but everyone knows that it's still not perfect yet. Even on my phone I still have to type out what I'm saying even if I'm annunciating perfectly just FYI... Bluetooth audio has also vastly improved over the years. I would argue that the average person would not even notice the difference between Bluetooth audio and being playing directly over USB. Also don't say that it runs 'so much smoother' because most of us have seen the videos and they are still laggy and still not as responsive as our phone themselves. I was simply giving an option to people who wanted to try out android auto without having to buy a crappy resistive screen head unit unless you wanted to shell out over $1000 for one. Also is not a heads up display... A heads up display would be something out in the area of where the driver will be looking out of the windshield as to not having to take their eyes off of the road ahead.
Please.

Please try and understand what I started this thread for. It is for those of us who are using Android Auto with a supporting head unit. Just like back a few months ago, I was using the sync system in my car. I have never had any issues with my voice to text, every once in a while a word would be incorrect, but the more you use it in a quite environment the better your results get. My text messaging reads back my response before it sends and I can either allow it to send or say the message again. I have not had to touch my phone in a car for five years and don't plan on doing anything like that today even with the radios display. The idea of hands free is exactly that, Hands Free. If you don't have the tech to support and help contribute to developing apps that help alleviate the use of hands in the car, this is not the forum thread for you. I don't know what music application you prefer, but the ones I use I pay a premium for because they offer me higher bandwidth and truer sound. And you can immediately here the difference between bluetooth and wired. It's been rumored already that Bluetooth is soon to become extinct and it seems that is the way mobile tech is rolling. BTW, HU the way I was using it my Head Unit not heads up.
The good part is.....

Android auto is just a remote display and sound, isn't it? I don't find it particularly interesting since it *depends* on the phone for the "android" aspect. It is a much better option to install an Android HU in the car, then it isn't functionally dependent on the phone.

That would be the ideal, but very few cars come with a built in cellular connection, I know they are available but this is the inexpensive way to go. What I like the most about it is the ability to put the phone in my center compartment where the USB outlet is hidden, shut the compartment while the phone is charging and still have access to all of my phones functionality straight from the steering wheel. It's wonderful not to have to look at a screen, and if I do glance at the screen to see a turn that might be coming up or what song is playing on a stream, it is big and clear and takes not even a second to see. Luckily, the Navigation in google maps is pretty trustworthy and gives voice commands with plenty of time to spare so it's rare to even have to look at the Map when moving. My next car will have built in cellular service, it was just still to expensive four years ago when I bought my car and my service provider did not have a system in place for plugging in their tech. They do now but I won't be in the market for another car for at least another year. The thing that got me into having a Android Auto supporting HU is my text messaging application and the sync system, would not play nice together anymore because of changes in Lollipop from kit kat. Sync kept crashing the bluetooth sharing feature anytime I received a text. And since I was using that tech for the past four years, there was no way I was going back to having to touch a screen or try and type a text in the car. The developers I work with tried many fixes to see if we could alleviate the problem, but every thing we tried failed. The problem was immediately remedied with the new HU. Now I'm trying to find others that use the same tech, so we can share our experiences and any other useful features we find or help each other with certain problems one might experience. That is what this thread is about. If you have a Android Auto compatible HU and a Nexus device, this is a place to share.

Open garage door with Android?

Hello, I will try to explain the best possible.
I want open the garage door using my Android Radio installed on my car without any device installed on the garage door.
All I see are devices that are installed next to the garage door and through an application connects to this device and opens the door.
I would like to be able to install this device directly in my car, which has powerful antennas and can be powered by usb, to install it hidden inside the car connected to the android radio.
Any idea?, thanks!
Edit: This is the best solution for now: https://es.aliexpress.com/store/pro...al-remote-controller/2815093_32796947067.html

Hello,
I like your idea. How about this device: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/201...lgo_pvid=3444855f-2c57-40cf-81bd-afcaac958d1e
If you fit it in your garage your should be able to control it from your car. If your garage door opens with 433MHz it may work. I would like to do the same, but my garage uses 868MHz and rolling codes so I dont think it will work for me. Too bad.

That device I see that it is a receiver 433mhz, not an emitter, which should be installed next to the garage and welding two cables (if I am not mistaken).
Regrettably if your door code is variable, you need to make a cable installation next to the opener (you can see this video for know how Install on your garage, mute the video if you don't understand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XYTUuW-WVs ).
Android device have no way to do it,you can try to use a Raspberry pi with bluetooth(try to replace door controller with Raspberry pi)
I am a chinese so that english have a bit of worng .needn't mind it

Yes I think you are right. In my case the manufacturer of my garage door motor is a french company called Somfy and they do sell a WiFi to RF converter, but it cost USD 240 which I think is too expensive. https://www.somfysystems.com/products/controls/mylink

I also have a Somfy garage door opener.
I installed a garage door opener very simply on my motorbike. I got a "1 Channel AC DC 12V RF Wireless Remote Control Switch Receiver +Transmitter 1 CH" from ebay.
Connected the receiver part across the key switch contact on my Somfy door controller, powered it from a mains to 12v adapter, removed the battery from the remote control, and wired it in series with one of the direction indicator bulbs on the bike.
To open/close the door, all I had to do was briefly turn on the direction indicators on the motorbike, and as if by magic, the garage door opened!!

What would you gain? You press the screen button on the android head unit to open the door. How is that different than pressing a physical button?
If there is a geek factor in it for you then maybe check this one wire usb adapter:

It's simple comfort, but I'll give you some examples that may make you change your mind.
1- The remote control is stored, you need to stop the vehicle to find it.
2- You must keep the button pressed, and many times the door does not open and you must play with the position of the remote control.
3- You can run out of batteries, in this case if you do not have spare batteries in the car, you will not be able to enter or leave the garage unless you have another method until you change the batteries.
I also thought of installing a good antenna so that I could open it early enough and quickly.
Using a shortcut on the home screen of my android radio would be a simple touch of the screen without having to distract or stop the vehicle, saving time and effort.

Well, the amount of time required to get something working on android is greater than the time it takes to purchase batteries and store backups in the car. Several cars have built in garage door opening functionality that you can program. You can very easily take a remote and wire it to a new button you can mount in your dash. Plenty of after market remotes that include a visor clip. Old skool radio works better on doors, but if you just gotta have something else look at the available options like:

I do think this is an old problem. There are now several garage door openers with google home integration. An "OK Google, open the garage door" should work with them through your android auto.
This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.de/meross-Garage...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

This is how I have been doing it for a couple of years. I can use either an OK Google command or a shortcut on my Android Auto launcher. More recently (only in the last couple of days), I've set up a couple of Macrodroid macros to automatically open or close the garage door when I am connected to my car's bluetooth and I cross over a boundary 300m from my house.
I use the phone app to call one of my family members to open and close the door. It's a low cost option.
I've automated my garage door a couple of years ago and I did not had even a single issue until a couple of months ago. My garage door was not opening at first, then it was blocked at all. I was trying to it on my own but I am not an engineer, so I called a local specialist but as far as I know he was in vacation, so I've called a friend of mine who's barking locksmith. The guy really know his job and he was working with smart locks for a while so he fixed this issue of mine in a couple of minutes
