All things Discussion - Help, Problems, Advice - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw few general threads describing problems within them. This is development forum and only development should be posted here. As we are lacking other sections like Q/A forum, General forum, hence I created this thread which will be a all in one general thread. So now onwards don't create a thread for your problem, help or advice instead post within this thread.
Only we are supposed to keep our forum clean and tidy.
Let the discussions begin!

I stopped using xda after seeing that my device is not present in it...before 3 months...
But now I opened it 2 days before and suddenly seen a separate section !!
Thanks for this section...:laugh::good:

I have a question. I noticed that when you want to root the device, the binary counter will increase, because you flash a kernel. In my galaxy tab 10.1, this can be avoided if you flash a custom recovery with odin and then use this to flash an update zip with root (the counter increases only when I flash a custom kernel). So the question is: As far as you know, does the counter increases only when you flash a kernel, or it will increase just by using odin? I plan to buy the device, and I don't want to be out of warranty in the first 1-2 months and I just can't live without root!

This device doesn't have a separate recovery partition!
So that cannot be done.

Thanks...I thought as much. That means that if I buy it, I will have to keep it stock at least until (if) there is a JB update. They separated the partition I think in ics onwards. Any chance the s2 jig woks?

Hey.
I've got one question: where I could found a local storage (internal memory (no sdcard)) in TWRP?
Is it possible to install *.zip without memory card? I can't found it.

I want to ask a question, when i dial *#0228# on keypad the battery window comes up, below that window there is a button "Quick Start". I want to ask that what this button do. Sometimes when i put my phone in charging and press this "Quick Start" button after like 30 to 40 min laterwhile the phone is in charging , suddenly my battery level rises up approximately 15-20%

modem partition
Does anyone know where modem.bin is located? Is it in a separate partition or just lying there in /system?

Hi!
I've a question about the CyanogenMod 7 porting...
Is possibile to flash it in the I9070P device?
If not, can you create a rom that work with the nfc version?
Thanks for the job!

Help! How to disassemble it??
Hi,
i would like to open my Samsung S Advance (it was really easy to open my normal Galaxy S) but i don't know how?
it looks very different compared to the Galaxy S1,S2,S3, so after removing the screws, i don't know how to continue.
i searched everywhere...google,bing,youtube etc. but i got no answer. maybe someone of you knows it? Feeling a bit desperate

If i follow the next steps:
1-Root using the new method that does not increase the binary
2-Install TWRP using the DD method
3-Instal JetMOD using TWRP
Would i increase my binary counter by installing the custom rom? i dont want to loose my warranty.

[INT/Bell][CWM]Auto Ram Fixer for unlocked bootloader

Hi,
This is a small CWM zip to add the [email protected] line to your existing boot and recovery partitions to fix the ram issue with the international unlocked bootloader. If the second mem is already there it does nothing.
The point of this is you can have a regular recovery flashed and fix the ram issue without wondering what tegra part you have, it preserves your serial number as well. More useful with stock boot images than custom ones that already have this done.
To use:
Flash with a CWM recovery supporting edify scripting. That means you have an unlocked recovery basically. The program inside the zip can be used on it's own to list the cmdlines already in your phone, or to set them to something else.
As cmdline, it lists, as setcmdline it sets the entire thing, as addcmdline it adds on to the end of the existing cmdline.Cheers!
Great! Looks like our bell friends are having good development as well.

So would i need to flash this once and then any ROM I install will have fixed RAM, or do I need to flash this after every installation?

You can just keep it handy on your sdcard and use when needed, it depends on the "rom" you flash, it may or may not have a ram fix solution built in.

It depends on the Kernel the Rom has within it, nothing else.
Furthermore, no offense. But this is kinda useless now. Did you not know we have unified Kernel's? If someone made a Rom without a unified kernel, they can basically shove that Rom.
I do not see a point in this at all. I guess maybe for testing old Roms.....

Hi,
I addressed this already in the OP. It's more for use with stock kernels.
Can you compile the motorola kernel source (pick one) and get a binary exact match for the stock Bell kernel?
No offense to the guys working on kernel's here, but I am not really compelled by the added features/bug fixes, and am concerned more about stability, especially when the source seems to be ATT based. Which is fine if you are running an ATT framework "rom/theme" I guess, even better if you have an ATT phone.
Cheers!

[Q] Getting my Note tomorrow! A few questions.

Hello lovely XDA users. Just wanted to ask a few questions about the Note. Im used to Nexus devices and the unlocking and rooting process is usually straight forward, reading up on the Note I got a bit confused lol. So how do you root it? I have read about the ICS leaks bricking phones so I will stick to GB for now, can anyone recommend a good GB ROM? Would like stock Android if possible. One more question, apart from rooting how do you get CWM Recovery on it? Thanks for your help people and I'm really looking forward to getting the Note.
There's a thread in the dev section with pre-rooted firmwares. You can flash any of these with PC Odin and you're rooted. I suggest you flash the European Open or UK version of XXLC1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If you want to get CWM Recovery as well you need to flash the CF-Kernel for the version of the rom you flashed. So if you flashed XXLC1 you need the CF-Kernel for version LC1.
Scroll to the bottom of this post and download the file for the correct version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18978158&postcount=1
Extract that file, double click the alread-rooted.bat file and it will push all the necessary files to the Note. Once it's done your phone will reboot and you can use CWM Recovery (hold power+home+volume up untill Samsung logo pops up) to flash any rom you like.

Explained like a pro, Thank you very much. Any GB ROM you would recommend? Preferably with Stock Android although I'm guessing you can't use the S Pen apps? Might stick to Stock Touchwiz ROM although I hate it. Any kernel to recommend with a Stock ROM? Thanks for your help.
All the custom GB roms fully support the s-pen because they're all based on official Samsung firmwares, I'm not aware of any custom rom with stock Android UI at the moment. You can always use a custom launcher to at least get rid of TouchWiz. I'm using CheckRomHD V6 and installed NemusLauncher at the moment and I like it a lot. RocketRom V23 is a very nice rom as well though it's a bit of a hassle to flash as you first need to flash V22, do a wipe and then flash V23.
You can even combine custom roms and custom kernels. If you want to be able to overclock as well you can flash for example CheckRom and then flash the AbyssNote 4.2 or FM Kernel 2.0 in CWM Recovery. Or if you go for speed and good battery life you can flash SpeedMod Kernel 2-11.
Basically it's all up to you. Read the threads about the custom roms, choose a few with features you like and just try them for a while. Just keep in mind that there is a slight chance you end up in a boot loop (usually solved by doing a data/cache/Dalvik wipe in recovery) or soft-bricking and you have to start all over by flashing a pre-rooted kernel and CF-Root again, but this applies to any custom rom on any phone.
You said them firmwares are pre-rooted but on the thread it say's they are not directly rootable. ???

If yes, then CM9 probably is not the right thing for you. It is devoid of all the
Samsung crapware, plus you don't get native S-Pen Samsung support. This
means no SMemo and similar stuff; you have to use different apps from the
Market instead.
OTOH, if you want a lean, smooth and fast Rom, and are not afraid to do some
tinkering, then CM9 would be ideal for you.

1. CM9 is here.
2. No optional kernels for now, because it contains the only safe ICS kernel ATM
3. No OC either, but you won't be needing it - the kernel is very fast as it is. In
fact, I keep mine at 1.2Ghz. It feels just as quick, and it's somewhat easier on
the battery.
Ok, I flashed a stock GB ROM through odin and I have run the bat file and installed the CF kernel and CWM. How do I flash CM9 and where do I find Reloaded CM9? Thanks you lovely people

Hi funny name guy.
1) recovery is on mmcblk0p4. You can easily install custom recovery once your rooted. It's in a sticky in one of these threads.
2) If you wan't custom use Huexxs Diana kernel.
3) backlight buttons are from kernel and needs to be integrated. The V30 repack has the functionality built in to modify the timeouts but I don't know of anything that can turn them off.
If your new here go read NOOBY's how to's they have pretty much every thing you need.

[Q] Emmc Brick fized?

There are many confusing articles around about the EMMC brickbug that causes superbricks. I was just looking for answer to a few questions.
1. Has Samsung released a solution yet to fully revive (i.e. revive lost partitions) the device back to normal?
2. Is there an official Samsung solution to get the EMMC bricked devices working again?
3. For people who have revived their devices using the custom PIT method as described by hg42, are people having issues with the phone jamming (needing restarts) despite whatever rom they use? If so, how did you resolve it?

1.) No.
2.) Yes. Bring it to support - the change the motherboard. Costs? Depending on warranty...
3.) You need a summary of all the articles? No luck for you, I'm afraid. Read, read and when you finished - read again.
There are wonderful roms here with brick-save kernels. Use them or use them not.
And last... Why do you post this in General? Ever heard of Q&A-Section?

Interesting way to answer. But greatly appreciated nevertheless. I do have further questions re your answer to 3, but I feel quite intimidated.
Those are excellent questions re the Emmc bug for the Note.
Let me give you my thoughts. For questions 1 & 2, I'm still waiting for a solution but I highly doubt
Samsung will fix it. For question 3, if you use the pit file to revive your Note, then use Official ICS or JB rom
you will end up getting freezes/lockups and maybe boot loops.
I would recommend using CM10.1 as its more stable to use. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my Note 2
and tinkering around with CM10 on my semi brick Note 1.

Why is it that when we are no longer using the areas of the partition affected, with the PIT method, it is still crashing with various roms?
Which various roms crashing for you? I don't really have a good explanation why it is crashing even using the pit file. I think the partition area affected are pretty much corrupted. I've once got the latest JB working for a very short time until it freezes up many times and its not usable at all.
I would like to go back to JB again if theres actually a fix for the freeze up issue. In the meantime, I'm using CM10.1 and its much more usable as a phone with little issues/hiccups.

I used this rom - the only problem is that it didnt read my sd card (original one that came with the note) despite formatting.
Any updates on this topic?
I thought I should bump this post up a bit.
Wondered if there any updates people are aware of?
Thanks

Got the same issue as lemonbarley, but less space available.
I noticed improvements once i've deleted the HIDDEN partition and made cache afterwards as exactly 128mb.

You mean the fat partition? or the ext one
Just post here any arguable question.... so far was an hell of adventure to fix the samsung.
Sd card
Its strange how these days i spend moving in cicles but today something different happen.
Appears to me that slim rom and anidroid (ics) is a bit different in comparison with paranoid rom (ics lrk)
First two have some compatibility issues. For example, on anidroid, the menu is for galaxy SII, and you cannot choose dpi.
While on slim rom you can do all that, there are screen flickers, like menu distortions, and the camera doesn't zoom at 720p.
The major difference is in how they both partition the space. This was a strange breakthrough today. Moving in cicles until this.
On first two, the phone storage is shared in two (or three) areas. while none seems to be okay on a briked phone. The second, makes the internal sd card as the (external mini sd) main addition to the phone. Why did those two make the internal storage out of the fat32 11 partion UMS. That was terrible.

It's exatly this what @m3talmike said.
We have to get our beloved ICS so good , that we can run a lot of time this ROM , without flashing it every week new , because the battery drains or the phone lags.
If you use your phone everyday , you might know that you can be happy if your i9000 has a few hours battery running on Jelly Bean and above.
No one can tell me , that a +4.2 ROM's Battery holds a day while using the phone normally.
ICS is even better than Gingerbread in terms of battery , video streaming , etc.
And nearly every app runs on 4.0 and above , so i don't understand the hate at a ICS Rom , yeah it is a bit old. But better old and fast instead of new and laggy , not to say the battery drain...
Even the 4.4 Rom at 512MB Ram runs laggy.
Meanwhile i am trying to implent a code in the ROM for slowest battery drain and to use the phone more time than a few hours.
I know there are people out there who don't like or simply can't load the battery every 5 hours.
The ROM will also include a new sound engine , some camera tweaks , and much much more!

Hi,
i recommend flashing CWM via ODIN , its the best in my opinion.
I don't have so much time to find out , what you need for rooting.
Take time for it please to do a research.
You won't need anything else , you only need root and a custom recovery , my rom is a flashable .zip
Gapps are included , and when you run them first , the Store gets updated to the newest version.
