Found out that my DROID 3 dock works great with the RAZR M. Only issue was that HDMI connector that our phone doesn't have. Easy to pop out the HDMI part, just had to find the 4 screws under the rubber feet, and once inside 2 more screws on the retaining clip. Then just pull out the cable, put everything together and the RAZR M fits almost perfectly, just a little close on the left side. The audio jack on the dock works, and the phone recognizes that it is docked as well.

Do you have it in any case? It looks like you do. How well does it fit without any case on it? I am looking for a dock, hate to buy one and find out it doesn't fit later....this might be my best choice, but I am rolling naked right now, so need something that fits with no case....

doesn't look like there's a case on there.
Good tip! Do you think there'll be a legit Razr M dock at some point? i was bummed that I never found one for the gnexus

Probably not, they released the Flip Stand, which is a universal dock for all their phones and tablets. I've heard that they're done with docks for every device, and just have the one instead.

No case, just a skin. I like to go naked but want to give it a little protection so I went with a skinomi techskin.
It fits quite well, slides in to the dock way easier than my droid 3 ever did, the M I can dock in the dark even. That would have been a feat with the D3

Just ordered mine off ebay. pumped

the DROID 3 car dock also works great for the M.
there is a thread on Moto forum about it here.

I've been modifying my Bionic docks to work with the M. There's plenty of room for the case as well. The Micro USB connector has to be moved on the dock. It takes some grinding and gluing but works well enough. I've got 2 more on the way for $10 each from Amazon.

Here's my M in a modified Bionic cradle.

Thank you. I bought this on your recommendation, and it works great.

Seems as if every M owner has seen this thread........I have bid on 11 D3 docks now and have been outbid at the last second LOL....of cours I am trying to steal one for pennies....may have to up my Ante...
Thanks for the post!

That's why I stuck with Bionic cradles. I had 2 of them and bought two more for $10 each via Amazon. The modification takes me about 15 minutes at this point. Knife, Goop, electrical tape

I tried getting a Droid 3 dock from Amazon but they sent the wrong dock. :crying:

Just set up two new DROID 3 docks for my RAZR M and they are perfect. Thanks for the tip!
BTW, what dock app are you using in your screenshot?

I believe that was the stock ICS dock. I've been using double twist alarm, just shows the clock, all I need.

Could you give a little more info of how you modified your dock. Haven't took mine apart to look inside yet.

Are you able to route HDMI through the micro USB port?

Not even if you can find one. RAZR M have no MHL and it won't work under any circumstances with this phone.

Sorry, I haven't checked this thread in a while. I'll subscribe and if you're still interested I'll take one apart again and take some photos. I've made 4 of them and they all work and launch any of the 2 built-in (or is it 3?) ICS dock apps. You might want to PM me too, just in case I don't get the subscription e-mail.

Anyone modded original Atrix lapdock with the bionic?

At&t has the original atrix lapdock for $50 ! Can the connectors be modded to allow the bionic to work on this or will it not work with the webtop os on the lapdock?

I just ordered one. If there's no way to mod it I'm sure you can unload it on craigslist or ebay.
*edit*
Found this thread over in the Razr forums, someone got the Atrix lapdock working with their Razr so I'm hoping it does work with our Bionics.
I've ordered one too.
There are a few positive reports in the photon thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223032&page=12
C
Ya I read on that Photon thread that one guy has successfully modded the ports for the bionic and it works. Sweet deal !
I got one too. Although i'm not sure about the spacing, the main difference seems to be that the ports will be upside down for the bionic. Pop open a couple of screws (start on post 6 of the photon thread) and hopefully all we need to do is flip them around. A little trimming of the plastic around the connectors may be needed

Pix, please?
I would like to see pix too. I ordered one yesterday. Can't wait. I assume the terminals could be just turned around and maybe some cutting to make the phone fit in the cradle.

Does the cradle need to be modded? If so, is it just at the openings for the ports? I'd be willing to do that, but not much more.

did you just walk in and get it for $50? because it's $99 online now for pricematching...
Walk in ATT store Monday morning just to check, they have one in stock, price ring up $299 I told them it's $50 online, they pull up website, override price I walk away with lapdock. To make it work with BIONIC you have to flip terminals around, when you turning terminals you will have to trim opening (self explained) .Also you have to trim cradle on the right side for the phone to sit straight. Total time 10 min Max.

got mine modded. here are some quick pics. too lazy to do good ones
webdock.
back, flipped out.
extended battery/case piece removed
on the side there's a little black adhesive sticker covering a screw. remove that and the screw on both sides.
like so.
popped open.
there is a metal piece holding the connectors in place. remove it.
note the rubber piece in between connectors.
the connectors come right out. I used a knife and trimmed the outside plastic so I could flip it.
I found the extended battery cover doesn't play well. I had to sand down the part where it actually docks.
and here we go!
I sanded the right side of the dock down, as the connectors didn't seat deeply enough.
that's all!

Droid3 Desk Dock for Droid4

I'm using my Droid3 Desk Dock for my Droid 4. Fits really well, it would even fit better, if there was a custom insert for it. If I knew how to make one, I would make one myself. You can't use the Droid3 Car Dock though, it just wont fit, because that dock raps around more, and the Droid 4 is slightly larger.
any chance of a couple pics? and you said it fits well, how well does it function? switches to dock mode? hdmi works? charges?
As far as a custom insert, Sugru seems like it might work

semi snug, all functions work, and charges, it just has some extra space around it, so you got to line it up more yourself, as apposed to just placing it in and it just lays in.

Try polymorph:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2248363_use-polymorph-plastic.html
its a formable plastic, just boil it in water and push it into the spaces you want to fill before putting your phone in there.
then press the phone in firmly (make sure it still charges) and let it cool.
This is great
The one thing that really bummed me out about the D4 was the desk dock. That thing is huge and stupid. If this really works well, I'll be psyched.
Thanks for that!

When placed in the Droid 3 Desk Dock, does it display any of the dock screen options for the Droid 4, or just the standard home screen? If standard home screen, is it displayed in portrait or landscape? Pictures would be great!
Thanks in advance
My Droid4 does not fit well at all in the Droid3 desk dock. Removing the insert helps a bit, but it's still at an angle and is being supported entirely by the HDMI and USB connectors rather than fitting plastic-to-plastic as intended. I'd strongly recommend against doing this.
It does appear to behave the same as the Droid3 dock, firing a dock-connected intent and thus bringing up a menu about how you;d like to use the dock.

Yes it works for me with the insert in it as well. It doesn't fit end to end. Bit fits well enough that i have been using lt since the droid4 was released.

To be fair, the Droid 3 only rests on the plastic at the very right hand edge. I suspect a little packing would enable the Droid 4 to do the same.
Cheers,
Steve.

Nice pics - what's the background you have around the screen, and how did you put it there?
I bought this Atrix HD multimedia dock for my D4: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Motorol...harging-Station-w-HDMI-USB-Port-/160849023787
It works quite well, fits in only without any case though... The thing I love is that it has an IR remote, pretty handy when controlling it from bed
I had to customize it a bit though: for now I just flipped the micro USB upside down and removed the micro HDMI connector (it can't be flipped upside down easily as it is in a brick of plastic of bad shape) and will probably customize it a bit more when I have some extra time. I bought it mainly because of USB connectors there though so maybe I'll just buy a short micro USB m->f cable and have it laying next to the dock I don't like that it stands only on its micro USB connector in the craddle.
It gets normally recognized as dock and phone offeres docking modes, USBs work (tested working with various pendrives and a mouse even through additional USB hub, not working with an external HDD, possibly because of the NTFS file system on it), audio out works and remote works (top left button doesn't, it's probably some unsupported legacy, others - D-pad, menu, home, back, media back, play/pause, forward, vol down, mute, up - work well).

I think the biggest problem with that type of dock is that the phone doesn't recognise it's in it, and so will stay in portrait mode unless you open the keyboard (that's certainly the behaviour of Droid 3's anyway). Couple that with the fact that the power supplies that are supplied normally make the screens go bonkers if you try and use them, I've found that it's better to stick with the official media docks (even if the fit isn't great as they are designed for the Droid 3 - I think I bit of a cut-out of the plastic insert could make them a decent enough fit though).
Cheers,
Steve.
FWIW I've been successful in making new inserts that fit the Droid 4 for the Droid 3 media dock. I made it out of Milliput, which is an epoxy putty that sets rock hard. The steps I took were:
1. Line the dock with masking tape.
2. Mix the putty, and roll it out flat. Let it cure for half an hour to make it a little firmer, and less tacky.
3. Line the dock with strips of putty.
4. Use a wet finger to smooth it all out and make it look tidy.
5. Wrap the phone in cling film and make small holes where the connectors are, then push the phone firmly into the putty, and remove.
6. You should have a phone shaped indentation in the putty - as long as you can see the indentation, then just let it cure, otherwise you might need to add more putty, and repeat the process.
7. Once cured gently remove the insert and tape, and remove the tape from the back of the insert. Sorted.
Cheers,
Steve

Anybody found a car mount for nexus 7 and GS3?

Hey everybody, I've been looking around here and Amazon for a car mount for my nexus 7 that will also shrink down enough to fit my Galaxy S3 if I forget my nexus. Has anyone seen such a mount?

This is the one I have. It worked great on my most recent trip. I was on vacation for a week and stuck it in the rental. Stayed on so well I almost forgot to take it with me when I returned it after a week. Fits the N7 in landscape and can rotate for it to be in portrait in case you want to use your polarized sunglasses. It held my galaxy nexus with androidtified case just fine as well from the top and bottom of the phone. It's cheap enough to test it out for yourself.

I backed a kickstarter project the millimount to see if it would fit both. I guess if its for a phone only, it wouldn't be a total loss. The kickstarter project, if funded successfully, will ship out by Jan 2013 though, but I think they have all the supplies needed when funding comes through.

I see no guarantee that it will fit the nexus 7 in landscape. Also the nexus 7 weighs about 4 times heavier than any phone on the market so I'm a little concerned about the weight pressing in he CD player. If you can vouch that it does indeed fit in landscape and holds well I may order this today. Windshield space is in short supply for me.

I agree, I doubt that would fit the nexus 7 in landscape, it's "compatible" because it would fit portrait, which is counter intuitive if you ask me.

does your phone slip out? I actually have all 4 prongs installed and it's a tight fit for the GN but it works.
I just ordered the following tablet mount and should be receiving it next week. Will most pictures when I get it.
I was originally planning on building a custom mount that covered my radio but that would have cost me a lot more money and this seemed like a quick solution as a gap-fill.

That would prevent you seeing the road through the windscreen! Is that why people blame GPS for driving them down a cliff edge?

In my car (Peugeot 107), there is a cut out area on the dash which I would mount the holder to rather than to the windscreen.
It's not in the way either....

I think this one looks pretty legit and decent quality. However the dock looks to form fit the phone whereas the official one from Samsung could take one with a case on the phone. If u don't mind taking off the case every time then this one isn't bad.
EDIT: in case you didn't see the other thread the official smart dock is available at Verizon

Trust me i know what you mean. I've been waiting to use my 50% off at Samsung too, but honestly I think they're waiting for that deal to expire before they say they're back in stock. Better to at least physically check it out at a Verizon store.

If you look at the ad description you will see it is advertised as having a removable insert so your note can be in a slim case. I have been pondering on getting this myself but hoped someone else would pull the trigger first
Anyone feeling brave?

I own this brand dock for my One X and it works great. It has the removable insert as this one describes and can house a small to medium sized case (One X has Micro USB on side).
I actually took it apart tonight to get the MHL to hdmi adapter out so then I can order the 5 pin to 11pin to get it to work.
it says that it doesnt connect to PC through the USB
does it?

But if you look at an HK seller, it also says "DO NOT sync with your computer thru USB"

So I would be curious to know which one is true ???

Looks the to be the same model and states sync, charge and hdmi connection.

Id actually like to see a mount/cradle type setup of this sort that you can mount the phone into horizontally. I want to use it in my vehicle but have yet to find a good mounting spot for the thing... I'd like to construct a custom bracket of some sort to hold the phone directly in front of the OEM radio, because I never really listen to the radio - only Slacker/MP3's... 2011 Mazda 3, non bose system, but not sure where to mount... If I found something that mounted horizontally, I could insert a bracket into the CD player and mount it to that.
whats the difference between the samsung dock and the allshare cast? except the obvious wireless
Anyone bought one yet and can confirmed it fit with a slim cover (bodyglove?)
Also curious about the fit. I have the dark grey TPU body glove case and want to know if this will fit.
Has anyone gotten this dock? Any thoughts?

Hey !
I have bought the USB Cradle with HDMI but it doesn't do anything when I tryed to plug my GN2 to a monitor.
Does somebody know a special parameter to change or something like that ?
Thanks

Nexus 10 Dock

Hey everyone!
I really wanted a dock for my Nexus 10 but since none were available I decided to build my own. After posting pictures of it here, there were a lot of people that wanted to buy it. So I decided I would start selling them. I ended up selling a bunch and people seem to really like them. If you're interested, you can order one from Amazon.

Faster Charging - Built-in power connector to charge your tablet through a magnetic pogo connector. The tablet charges about 25% faster and is much easier to use than a microUSB cable. A USB cable coming out of the dock plugs into the wall adapter that comes with the tablet so this can be used anywhere in the world where the Nexus 10 is sold.
Easy Docking/Undocking - Since the connector is magnet based, there is nothing to plug in. The magnets auto align the tablet to the charging pins. This is as close to wireless charging as you're going to get with this tablet - just pick it up when you need it.
Weighted - Added steel weights inside the dock provide for increased stability and security while the tablet is docked. Also makes undocking the tablet easier by keeping the dock still. However, for best results, undocking the tablet by pulling horizontally as described in the tip above is still recommended.
Angled Design - For hands free movie watching, surfing the web, or playing a game all while the device is charging.
Here are some pics
Thanks for all the support guys! This was initially a fun little weekend project that took on a life of its own and went bananas, but I like bananas so it's all good
excellent write-up. Thank you very much.
You should send your résumé to Samsung. :good:
Damn this is awesome. Well done. I'm gonna make this with the "standard dock" instead.

Awesome! Let me know how it works out. The reason I didn't use the standard dock was because there's no USB port on the back, but I guess you could just run the cable out from the ac plug hole.

Haha! Maybe
I see there are USB ports at the back of the dock. Do those ports work when the N10 is docked?

I really like your mod skills and write-up! I may have to look into making something similar for my A700

I am guessing that he means this one: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Thrive-Standard-10-Inch-PA3956U-1PRP/dp/B004YIFOE6/ref=pd_cp_pc_1
They are inexpensive enough that I ordered one to see what I can do with it. Kind of reluctant to mod the POGO cable though.
Great job!
How is the balance on it? If you poke at your device is it pretty stable?

Yeah it's very stable. The best part is that I can pick up the tablet without having to hold the dock down by just pulling it towards me from the top and it easily disengages from the connector.

If you don't want to mess with the POGO, it's gonna have to sit kind of high to fit in the dock. It might still work (haven't tried it), but maybe just look a little awkward. The other end of the POGO you can just run out of one of the holes of the standard dock, which I think is what redthunda is going to try.
Would love to see your guy's ideas and pics if you ever end up building something.
Ill have pics up in this thread of my build after the parts arive next week.

My standard dock came today. It has a lot fewer internals to deal with, but same basic process you described so well above. For the cord, I just cut a slot in one of the holes in the back. My tablet needs to be in a case or have a shim in back to maintain contact with the POGO plug, but it works well enough. Thanks for the great idea! Here are a few pics:
Very cool. I'm gonna try to angle the pogo cable so the tablet rests on the back.

Let me know how it goes. Try removing material from the rear of the connector slot to get the plug closer to the stand. The way friction holds the plug in place, I don't think you can do too much to adjust the angle. There is a piece of rubber cushion over the slot on the surface of the dock which you can toss or cut to widen its opening also. I used double faced tape to reattach the cushion as well as the rubber pad on the bottom.
I made a total mess trying to remove the Toshiba logo from the front, so I printed off a Nexus 10 logo and taped it to the front like a sticker. Hint: Don't use acetone as it eats the plastic too.
Cutting the POGO plug is delicate. I nicked the covering on two wires which I then covered with electrical tape just as a precaution.
I got my pogo cable in today, and I decided to pop the casing off (using a tiny flathead screwdriver) and use sandpaper to wear it down rather than saw it for a more precise cut. It worked out pretty well! Here's some pictures of the pogo cable disassembled. I sanded off the plastic on the bottom all the way up to the two plastic pins that keep the assembly together.
