If you are rooted and own an play station 3 you can use the ps3 controller if you buy the app on the playstore.

The SixAxis app uses bluetooth to connect your Playstation 3 controller, I have it working on my rooted N7105.
Try the SixAxis compatability checker first to check whether your phone will run SixAxis
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscompatibilitychecker
I have read that you can use a usb otg cable to plug a playstation or xbox 360 controller in to your phone but I haven't tried that.
There are also MOGA controllers that were released last month but there are limited games that work with the controller.
Another new controller is Nyko.
If you have a Playstation 3 controller and you phone is rooted then the sixaxis app is definitely the cheapest and best way forward.

Yeah, if you have OTG cable, Note 2 will recognize the ps3 controller wired with no additional software.

Another option is to use the free app wiimote controller in the app store to connect a wii remote via Bluetooth.. You can use the standard wii controller if you only need two buttons. Or you can use the Wii classic controller or Classic controller pro if you need a more PS3/Xbox like controller. My daughter had the Wii classic controller pro lying around, so I didn't have to buy anything. Its works fine on my Gnex and Nexus 7 (waiting on Note 2) with NES, SNES, PSX, and N64 emulators and some apps from the app store that allow you to choose your input method.

I have xbox360 controllers and from what I read it works out of the box with the wireless transmitter.
My question is does it work with normal android games or just with emulators?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2

Some games have controller support. A list of games that work with controllers can be found here:
http://www.videomap.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4

moga, 8bitty, iMpulse
go to google and see which fits you. The other solutions mentioned are great as well.

I definetly tell that PS3 sixaxis bluetooth gamepad + "Sixaxis Controller" (~1,5$) with touch emulation makes every games compatible.
It's really amazing ! Trust me you won't regret ! ^^

No, it doesn't make all games compatible. There are some games that still cannot be matched due to how the controls are set up. I'll grant you a huge number are able to work, but not every game. Spreading overly optimistic untruths isn't helping the OP or anyone else make a good decision about which controller to get.
(PS3 controller + Root and Sixaxis is my favourite though)

Well i was maybe too much optimistic but despite the fact that the sixaxis ps3 gamepad have 'only' 10 buttons two joysticks and a cross to map on the screen .. i understand that you cannot play easily a game that have plenty of buttons ... But with the sixaxis controller software you can also enable mouse support (as for me i use the right joystick plus r1/r2 for left and right click) and i can assure you that you can play any game !
Tell me what game you cannot use with this solution ? I'll take a look for you ...

No, it doesn't.

Nyko playpad pro looks good to me. Ive been doing lots of hunting online for a decent gamepad myself. Moga, snakebyte idroid, nyko playpad pro. Are the 3 wireless dual analogue stick android controllers ive been looking at it seems there are advantages and disadvantages to all of them. check em out on you tube and see which works for u. It seems there all due to be released here in the uk soon if your in the usa there released already. The nyko playpad pro is available in sainsburys in the uk on the 7th of december for £44.99.
Android gaming and game controllers is work in progress there doesnt seem to be one to use with every game yet as the games themselves have to support controllers the controllers have apps which are supposed to let you remap your buttons for games which dont support controllers but this is not full proof yet.

U can use a wiimote via bluetooth
Wii remotes are Bluetooth and work? Can I get one of the ones that look like a normal Nintendo controller, rather than those notion sensor ones?
Just go grab any old one from the store?

Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892754
At minimum you will need:
A Wiimote (~$40)
A classic controller (~$20), these come in two varieties, one like a SNES controller, and one more like a gamecube? (More shoulder buttons.) This will set up the Wiimote as a keyboard, which you can then set up as a custom controller.
us.codejunkies.com has a datel wireless wii remote that looks like a classic snes controller. Or was it nes? anyway, I ordered one today, guess we'll see if it works...

I FIGURED IT OUT FINALLY! If anyone has problems with their Android not working with otg devices. Once your rooted any of arter97 kernels will make any most any popular otg controller work with no modules or anything! It's great! So excited I've been trying to figure this out for a week now. I HAVE A ONEPLUS 7 PRO RUNNING ANDROID 10 OPEN BETA 8 with arter97 kernel. Works perfectly with Xbox 360 controller connected via otg thru the Xbox 360 witless reciever!!!! I have 16 Xbox one and 16 Xbox 360 controllers and otg is the only way to play 4 player GameCube and Wii emulator games on Android with dolphin emulators. niceroms.com has every game ever created for GameCube and Wii to download free.
Check and see is arter97 has a kernel for your device

N64 USB Controller- Will it work?

I found some interesting USB Controllers on Thinkgeek, there is a classic NES one among others. What really caught my interest was the N64 version, I have the N64 emulator and I would love to pair the two. Do you guys think it would work with an OTG cable and some key mapping?
Here's the link to the controller, but take a look at the other ones on there too:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f08c/
I think it would definitely work with dead trigger since you can map the buttons. other games.. idk sorry.
I was mostly looking to play some Super Mario 64 with it lol. Is there anyway you can use this controller then output to a TV?
I don't see why It wouldn't. It's very similar to a Dualshock PS3 controller, so you should be able to edit the buttons.
You still have a N64 controller?
Should work since the emulator allows you to map the buttons.
Ive been using the wiimote app (free version) along with my kids wii controller with a wii pro controller attached. Works great for games like Mario 64.

The Wii Controller is a great idea, I've seen someone use the Wiimote but not the classic one. That's awesome, I may give that a try instead. Thanks

Yup - root+ sixaxis widget + ps3 controller is the best solution, especially for the amount of buttons the ps3 controller has. However, before I rooted, I got one of these on sale (not cheap otherwise!) and it's amazing for Shadowgun (haven't tried many other games with it however): http://steelseries.com/products/other/steelseries-free-mobile-wireless-controller
Amazing little thing, great feel and I'm surprised by the quality. Also, cross-platform compatibility (Android, iOS and Windows, for example). I had my doubts, but after using it for awhile... wow. Such a small controller should not perform so well!
HOWEVER: keep in mind that Android compatibility is still spotty with controllers, especially if you do not have root. You'll need a game that either explicitly tells you that it is compatible with the controller of your choice (ie. "compatible with Moga controllers" ) OR has some way to map controls manually in the game. I haven't tried your game, so check first. In Shadowgun and NOVA, for example, in game settings you're able to map buttons. So even without root, you can plug a ps3 controller in via the dock's USB port and map away. Or pair the Free controller and you're off.
If you DO have root, I think there might be ways to emulate touch controllers with root and sixaxis, but I haven't tried. Unless someone else can speak to how well this works? Theoretically, this enables you to play games that aren't even designed for controllers.
Hope this helps!

FYI: Rooted GN4 + Gear VR + PS4 Controller works!

FYI: The PS4 Controller works with GN4 (rooted) and the Gear VR with a stock ROM using Sixaxis Controller(Paid) :good:
I didn't know if it would work, and I didn't see anyone else post a thread about it, but it is working beautifully.
This is the perfect setup for Dreadhalls. Scary as $hit with a nice set of headphones!
If you have a custom rom
Flash to stock using Kies
Insert phone to Gear VR
Run the update from your carrier
Let the Oculus app install
Ensure you can use at least one app form Oculus app store
Run simple root again
Install Sixaxis Controller(paid) or some other PS controller app
Enjoy! :victory:
Now the million dollar question is.. does it work with remote play?
Nice. Im gonna get GearVR as soon as its available in Europe.
Im not a big fan of ps4. I play on xbox one so Ive bought a nice bluetooth controller from ebay thats very similar to xbox controller and is usable with Note 4
So gear vr won't work with AOSP ?
