Lag in dialer and mms? - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

I'm thinking of buying a i9305 and was just wondering if the lag in opening the dialer and contacts is still there on this
Version?
I know this has extra RAM but the RAM is never all used on my current S3 and it still lags here.
So is the dialer and MMS lag a general problem with Jelly Bean regardless of how much RAM or has the 2gb RAM in the i9305 solved it?
Thank you guys

I dont have the lag, Its because Dialer and contacts is kept in memory with the extra ram

I have no lag at all

Awesome, nice to hear. I don't no why it isn't kept In memory on the I9300 there's enough to spare.

Excessive ram

Running:
Firmware: 2.3.4
Kernal: 2.6.35.7 hardcore speedmod 300hz
Cwm:2.5.1.0
Have encountered an excessive ram
problem even after clearing ram using task
manager, i am using autostarts aswell to
reduce but no,luck, i am at a loss, wether it
could be the galaxy running 2.3.4 i don't
know, any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have excessive ram or the other way around (less free ram than you're expecting) ?
And more than that .. don't you think you should share some real values with us?
For example, (I'm running GB JVP 2.3.4) when I'm bootong I'm getting about 130MB of free ram and in the normal usage the free ram reported by the system is ~80-100MB.
Currently in task manager sits around 250 280 lb of ram even after killing off apps. Im at a loss, thinking of just flashing darkys
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
you are fine .. this is the gingerbread behavior from what I know.
Ram is running all the time.Linux maked use of holding things in ram incase the application is used again. Anything in ram doesn't make the system slower, unless you are into precise control and into milliseconds of time-saving.
Adrian.

Thought it might have been gingerbread, I might flash back to a 2.2 early Rom

As I said before: Ram is there and powered up. Anything in ram does not use power because it it is used already by the ram.

Alright but I've noticed that the more ram that's in use the slower my phone is.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've just fashed lite'nin 3.0 and I have no problems. 538 megs of ram is being used and the phone is not slow. I have noticed that some apps can cause a slow or stuttering phone. I have tried a lot of custom roms, Insanity, miui, stock on my sg1, cognition, darky's, stock and litenin on sgs2.
I'm keeping with litenin as I find it to be very stable, good battery and I have found no bugs.
Perhaps you could find out if an app is causing slowness? I have 271 apps and all run ok. Palmary weather caused problems so it's gone. Are you using any cpu frequency apps?

[Q] CM10 Memory Footprint & Reboots

Hi,
I have a P1000 with CM10 (Humberos and Alroger) and I'm very pleased with this ROM.
It's such a difference if compared with GB that it really looks like having a new device.
There is one problem though that I'm not sure can be fixed: the random reboots.
I've dig a bit and apparently reboots are related to the lack of memory.
Analysing the available memory indeed I noticed that it easily goes around 50-70Mb which doesn't seem to be that much and probably this is the root cause of the random reboots.
I've enabled zRAM with a compression rate of 35% but this doesn't seem to have solved the issue.
So I'm wondering why nobody else is actually talking about this issue. Is the majority of P1000+CM10 users not having this issue?
Or it's just that we can't do anything about it and therefore we have to live with this?
In no way this post wants to be a complain. I'm just asking some more information to understand this issue better.
Cheers
Fiber7
Free memory is wasted memory.
This is not Windows which actively swap memory to swap.
if memory really is running low, the memory manager will kill inactive apps, not panic and reboot.

Hi Pryiana,
I'm not sure I got what you mean.
I'm not rebooting the system, it just does it automatically, that's the problem.
What I'm trying to understand here is why it reboots automatically.
Based on Alroger a solution to self reboots is to enable zRAM which is a kernel feature to compress data being written to memory to reduce the footprint.
Are you currently on a CM10 ROM?

I am on aokp jb using humberos kernel (forgot which date)
My point is :
the system reboots you are seeing, it is not because the ROM isn't providing enough free ram. It is something else. Maybe even because the memory manager isn't doing the right thing.
Maybe true that your attempt to free up more ram improves it, but it may just help to avoid hitting the real bug.
Anyway, I am not a dev.
Just a system guy.
I just want to say free ram is wasted ram.
In Linux systems, the kernel grabs as much ram as it can. Not free them.

OK, I see what you mean.
BTW, I can see from the cm10 thread that other people are having the same issue with the device restarting after a while.
Apparently 512MB are just not enough for Jelly Bean.

Err... Not true..
I am using AOKP JB for SGT7 by stimpz0r and no reboots for me.
Maybe cm10 not ready yet

Maximum RAM used

Hello everyone! Having a 2GB RAM in nexus 4, I am curious how much max RAM have you people used. After running my daily apps like Facebook,8 tracks, flipboard, what's app, viber, xda, drop box, chrome, I have used a Max of 1.2GB RAM. Post your max RAM usage.

I have used about a 1 GB of RAM. I love having extra ram in a phone

Lol. Yup. That extra ram Will be much helpful for the future updates. My friend's one x's 1 gig of RAM is now not sufficient for him.
Imho, nexus 4's power has not been used to the full yet. Optimization needs to be done, both in hardware and software. I believe we have a hardware that will go into full swing next year
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Most likely key lime pie will have more optimizations hopefully and it should debut this year.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That is true. Take for example the galaxy nexus was released two years ago and its going strong
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I dunno why 1gig of RAM wouldn't be sufficient but i don't mind having the extra. And KLP rumors say that the new Linux Kernel will actually be substantially more RAM efficient.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
i usually have between 1375-1500mb free ram at any point of my usage(about 1650mb after killing my apps). i also use autostarts to prevent apps from starting up in the background, and i use greenify to tame wild apps.
I've seen about 1.2-1.4gb of my RAM being used. But there was someone who kept complaining that the nexus 4 would close apps even if plenty of space was remaining. i think that person even started a thread & posted videos to prove it .

anyone can fake that video. can even make it kill the background apps sooner when very little ram is used. all you have to do is change the memory management variables by raising them. plus, there are roms out there that do that too.
Yes. I feel like that nexus 4 kills certain apps or refreshes despite having enough RAM.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Using Elixer 2 widgets, I seen to hover between 1.2gb to 800mb free ram. I don't really close anything, pretty much just let it run on its own. Stock not rooted or anything. I have probably 50 give or take a few apps installed.

Ram use age is not only dependent upon the applications running... If you use roms like xylon or liquid etc there are options to show how much ram is used by applications, cache and one other thing which i can't remember right now.. So basically my ram use age in real life had always been nearly to 1.6 1.7 GB!

is jelly bean optimized for 2gb?, Ive had apps close not crash and I wonder why if it needed the ram, would changing the vm heapsize help?
I checked and I usually have 700mb remaining.
My Galaxy Nexus ran perfectly with 1gb ram so its probably more like JB uses ram pretty efficiently. More helps tho.

That much RAM? you are on a custom Rom? Could you list your apps?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Maximum RAM used on my N4 was about 800-900 MB. Stock everything, with some services running like Facebook,Whatsapp,8tracks,Lightflow and a live wallpaper ..
As for the people wondering why some apps appear to "close" on their own despite having enough RAM. Its the app's fault, the code is not written well and does not advantage of Android's multitasking capabilities.

Mine has free 900+ mb

I don't use that many apps..and yea iam on a custom rom...but i guess u didnt get what i am saying...most of the time what ubsee ass ur free rom isn't actually free... It's being used by cache and other things...what most roms show u is only how much ram applications use..as u can see from my screen shot... The phones ram is never entirely free !

Whatsapp service gets restarted on heavy ph usage and then it looses internet connect

Hello
I am currently using cm 4.2.2 by bieltv3
The problem i hav been facing from the time i installed custom roms is that whatsapp, once it gets killed by android like when there is some memory intensive app, it gets killed.
It does restart bt unless i open it manually it doesnt receive msgs.
The service is active bt it simply doesnt receive msgs.
But once I open it manually it works flawlessly in the background unless it gets killed again.
I have removed apps like greenify and i never kill it by long pressing the home button.
Also i always have 85+ mb free ram.
This did not happen in stock rom when free ram was even lesser
Can anyone help me to fix this issue.
My 2g connection remains on 24x7 for whatsapp and i need it to be functioning all the time.
Thanx

Dude i have also tried 4.2.2 and have found similar kind of problems. I think this is the problem with the task killer. Try usin another Task Killer but dont forget to White List Whatsapp so that it does not get killed.
Also if you wana use stable 4.2.2 try out Spacecaker's SGS II Rom v 11.2 or S'Periance Rom.

Yeah I know but in terms of stability are actually lot better than 4.2.2.
Solved it partially by using memory manager app
Decreased the limit for background apps from 30 to 5
Whatsapp is much more stable nw

Lag gone crazy

I got a replacement SGS and I can't remember that my first was this laggy.it is almost imposable to use.
I have flashed CM10.1 and back to stock 2.3.6 I9000XWJW1. But both are laggy
I did a factory reset en cleared all the cash. is there something else I should do?
Strange things are happening with this phone. If i click the dailer ot takes about a second or two to open en sometimes just closes. Well that seems to happen alot. apps open then closes at random.
When i need to answer the phone it is hard to get the swipe to move. strange
Anyone have an idea what I can try to get this think usable?
It some times feel fast end then it stoppes dead.
flash some lagfix kernel for gb. although i already forgot which thread provides it, try to search lagfix for i9000

My suggestion is try flashing gamerzrom its fast doesnt drain battery and youl have always 100+ mb of free ram and use greenify.
Its the fastest rom alive
