Then I'll be swapping the SSD in for the 500GB optical drive that it comes with and installing the new software from http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/. Later I am thinking about possibly matching the specs on the battery and replacing it with a higher capacity battery, although switching to the SSD should increase battery life due to the fact that they draw less power than a traditional optical HD. I have not been able to find any good info on the exact battery specs so I am going to have to wait till I take the unit apart. Might end up having to build a new enclosure for it, but image 12+hrs or battery life (Really happy to be technically inclined)
I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

HP touchpad

Hey to all that are interested HP touchpad is now $99 for 16gb and 150 for 32gb. I know HP has discontinued them but still a good price. I have called staples and walmart and they have some left in my area.
Hopefully they'll get Honeycomb on it.
it would have been ipad killer if they priced it at $99 so sad....bargain if you can get honeymoon to work on it but thing breaks or battery dies. U r screwed...
Anybody think it may be a marketing ploy to flood the market with them? Just a thought. Called every where in the tampa bay area. Sold out gone.

I picked on up at Best Buy on Saturday (the day they re-released them for sale). 16GB for $105 with taxes. It's a great device. Even with webos on it (which means balls in Spanish BTW). Got it for the wife, but wish I had gotten two.
Also, there was a system update on it this morning. They must be pushing out the last of their support for it.
Fail!
I went to every Walmart, Staples and Best Buy for a 50 mile radius and no joy.
The Best Buy manager in my hometown is being a real jerk. Supposedly they have like a hundred of them in the back but he refuses to put them out on the shelves for a 100 bucks a piece.
Touchpad is 100x better than streak 7
Anyone want trade 800x400 dell streak 7 for touch pad?

Google’s Nexus 7 stops orders due to demand

Source: http://www.slashgear.com/googles-nexus-7-stops-orders-due-to-demand-22239712/
Google has decided to stop taking orders from its online store, assumedly because it has such a huge backlog it doesn’t even know when it will be able to fulfill new customer purchases. The 16 GB $249 tablet had been showing up as being delayed for one to two weeks. As of now, though, it’s impossible to place an order. The 8 GB model, at $199, is still available for orders.

Just FYI
Welcome to about 4 days ago, the 16gb stopped being available for order around 4 wednesday of last wk.
ooops, the article seemed new, feel free to delete post
The 16GB been out of stock since last week..
Well... good that the are stopping orders for now, they need to focus on getting the orders they already have shipped out. But bad that the 16GB may be delayed 1-2 weeks... I think that $300 went missing from my credit card as I haven't spent that much on it since I last made a payment but I won't know until layer monday when my bank updates the transactions online... hoping to see a charge for my 16GB Nexus 7 on there.
I'm not particularly mad at Google... just mildly annoyed. and I hope this was a good learning experience for them.
I think the 8gb model is good enough anyway. The transformers movie is streamed anyway by default. Unless you plan on loading tons f apps it should be fine for most.

What crystal ball are you looking at?
Markets are a fickle thing... hard to really know what is going to be a big hit and what wont be. It would appear, that the 16gb is outselling the 8gb, but who really knows real numbers are. Maybe they made a ton more of the 8gb units thinking they would sell better.
Was the Kindle Fire more popular because it was under $200 or because it was released first before the Nook tablet which was $249 or is it because it was Amazon with decent content etc...
Getting stuck with a ton of product that didn't catch on can be expensive. and playing catchup a hot product is a good position for a company to be in if they can ramp up fast enough. Sometimes constraints of available product also promote higher demand under the false sense that they are more popular than they really are. Who knows....

Or someone did a great job choking off the supply of 16GB units to force impatient buyers to the 8GB, making them more likely to buy into Google's cloud services.
"Supply crises" are much more often planned than not. Not saying they won't get the 16GB back on the market quickly, because they will. But how many buyers in the meantime will settle for 8GB and a Google Drive subscription?

That depends....Are people going to want to buy these anyways after reading all these articles mentioning all these defects. No one knows for sure if it's just 8gb or 16gb or both. Sure they got a lot of money up front but it doesn't help when you constantly have to replace them and with that kind of launch are people really going to take that risk right now. If not and they want to wait a couple months some other tablet could come out around the same price range or just a better tablet in general. You're talking lost profits at that point. Forecasting does come into it at some point but this launch didn't help at all
hmm. So they won't ship it, or refund it. Great

nexus 7 8gb being discontinued for 16gb and 32gb

Apparently we who preordered the nexus 7 early got bamboozled (lol) , the 8gb will be discontinued and the 16gb will take its place at $199. While the 32gb will replace the 16gb.

UGH, think their 10/29 release date is just a few days out of 30 days if they give a price adjustment from Walmart that far out. Bought the 16 back on 9/26.
Not cool Asus..... Or Google or whoever

Deal with it bros.
You bought the product because were happy with the price and gear being offered.
The Nexus 7 is a damn good deal any way you look at it. $50 extra to have this thing for 2-3 months which would have otherwise been spent dreaming of purchasing one and browsing sites for the best deals all day?
I'm happy with my purchase still. I feel bad for anyone who got an 8gb though.

Not to mention we early adopters got $25 plat store credit. So it's not that bad.

I hardly buy anything from the play store. While the credit is nice to have, I rather see a less amount on my credit card bill.
It's something I'll have to get over but I technically haven't even paid for it yet since the bill isn't due lol. So.. yeah, in that case I'm a little annoyed.

I knew that a that better / cheaper SKU would show up, didn't expect it before Christmas TBH, but I don't care I wanted to experience stock Jelly Bean asap. I've ordered a usb-otg cable and tasty 32 GB USB 3.0 pendrive, which has the benefit of being used over multiple devices.
I'm not really mad I'm just disappointed in Google's marketing. Not a lot of people buy into the nexus brand and Its really not nice to do what they are going to do but since I love this device so much I'm not going to get mad, I'm just going to right them a nice message of what I think about this on October 29th.
Now I'm thinking if I should buy the nexus 4 when they release it or wait.
I'm wondering if people sending in 8gb sets for RMA would get a 16gb back.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?
I've had mine for about a week and love it. I have a 30 day return policy, if my store got them by Oct 29, wonder if they would let me return it?

I guess you can still call it a rumor. But the 32GB is obviously real at $250 and the 16GB isn't going away, so it'll almost certainly drop to $200. There isn't room for an 8GB model.
I think it's just common sense at this point that the 8GB model is about to get clearanced at the end of the month.

From a business stand point, they are going to sell the 8GB at 199 till it's out of stock, then push the 16gb down to 199 and throw in the 32gb at 250.

2-3 months? That's perhaps true if you're in the US, where it's been released first - not counting some later adopters who didn't get it from day 1. That's not true anymore in some other countries, where it's been out for quite less than 2 months.

Guess what? In those countries where it's been released more recently, the credit is still active... and thus I'd bet the early 32GB buyers will still get it.
So, yes, it IS bad, when there's a 32GB model scheduled for the same price as your 16GB unit, 45 days (since there are obviously numerous leaks) after it's been available in your country.

I have to agree. The people that have had there's for 31-45 days get screwed the hardest. They're just outside the return/refund window and have had so little time with there's to really enjoy it before a price drop and a higher capacity model for the same damn price is released...
I'm one of those people and I'm pretty miffed... I'll be very caution and wait 2-3 months after every new Nexus release or simply not buy from Google at all... we shall see...

ok by me
Bought the 8 at launch from the Play Store to see if I would like using a tablet. Now I use it all the time. Rely on it. So. Afraid to root it in case I brick it. Want root for Stickmount. 32G means I can have a load of storage and root my 8 with no fear. Cool. Also, its easy to forget just how low cost these devices really are. I think the 32 is a response to the ongoing criticism of the non expandable storage capacity. I like that they listened.

A UK based catalouge retailer called Argos has published it's Christmas supplement with the 32GB being £199.99
Now they have stopped the Play Store credit and freebies, along with great economies of scale, maybe the 8 GB will get a price cut to undermine the cheapest Kindle Fire?

Nexus 7 8 GB version now?

Trying to find any news on the 8 gig Nexus 7 pricing. Staples still has it listed as 199. Anyone know or have confirmation if the price has dropped?
I believe that it's been discontinued, but we should be able to find remaining stock -- heavily marked down -- in stores and online. The 8gb version does not appear on Play.Google.com or on Walmart.com. I would think that the 8gb versions, while they last, should be marked about $150.00, but...

It is/was. Staples near me still has some in stock but they are 199.99
I sold my 8GB yesterday for $175. Barely ahead of today's announcements. I paid $150 with magnetic case for it on Craig's List. Putting it aside for the Nexus 10. N7 was too small for my eyesight to read comfortably. So I guess my suggestion would be to also check out alternate sources as I did.
It originally wasn't supposed to be sold in stores because going the retail route on the 8gb would end up costing them money since the unit was sold so cheap. The 8gb started showing up when the 16gb models couldn't stay stocked, which was a last ditch effort from Google/Asus to keep the supply flowing.
So there ARE 8gb models in the wild and ARE discontinued. I would think that Staples and a select other few would have them discounted. Walmart only had 16gb when I went there last. Craigslist and other 2nd hand sites are likely to be experiencing a rush of 8gb and 16gb models because they are trading for the 32gb.
8GB should be 150$
I'm sad that the 8GB model has been discontinued.. I just bought it the first of this month back when none of this news wasn't around..
I don't wanna go through the process of selling this and getting the 16gb.

Every place I checked was sold out of the 8GB units over a month ago, and it was even difficult to track down unopened 16GB models. Everyone in the distribution chain knew about the product shuffling.
The ones you are likely to find now are customer returns, and there will be few that fall within the common 14 or 30 day return window.
Have the screen separation issues been completely resolved? I have a launch 8gb that I want to get replaced. I'm not trying to get a 16gb out of this and I'm hoping if I go through the process now, they won't give me hassle, accusing me of trying to upgrade.
just actually posted my Nex 7 8gb on Craigslist yesterday. we don't use it since we have the ipad.
listing at $150 but taking $125 if i get it. Hate losing $75 so quickly, but that's tech. look on craigslist.
I doubt they'll sell it cheaper for now. Probably keep it for 199 until supplies settle down and when they only have a few, then probably sell them off on clearance.
People are still idiots with this stuff. If they advertise it for 199 people will come in and buy the 8gb probably without looking. Kinda dishonest but companies always do this crap.

I got an 8GB a while back. I don't really need much more storage than that. The music goes on the phone and I hardly keep big games on it.

[Q] Nook+HD right time to buy?

Howdy folks,
I'm currently rather broke but sorely tempted by the newly price reduced nooks. I'll cut right to it:
Do you guys think they will come down further?
Would you endure several weeks of mac n cheeze to have yours?
Thanks for your insights!
yes. absolutely.
I'd expect it to drop by another 10%, but you could probably get that by buying second hand on eBay. (I did)
I paid $50 for mine (HD+) the other week when they were on super discount at office max
picked mine up from walmart for 179. even at this price its a steal.
Best buy and other places have them for $150. Some people have picked them up for ~$100.
I don't know if we will see another $99 fire sale like the hp touch pad
