[Q] ExtSD2InternalSD | S3 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Has anyone seen this app... looks like the business it's called ExtSd2InternalSd
It's basically a script that will make the S3 see the extSD as internal SD (for data) and make it use the real internal SD for apps only...
I'm not sure if it works on i9305... I posted the question in the thread but there's been no confirmation yet. (I posted the same question in the DirectoryBind thread but perhaps it has more relevance here...)

This shouldnt be to hard will look into it

One of the more useful mods since "move 2SD" has been removed. Keep us updated on your progress btemtd

The original i9300 Script works out of the box. The vold device IDs for external SD are the same on both devices.

I tried out this mod. Decided I didn't like it. Went to remove it and coincidentally my micro SD became fully corrupted. Don't know if it was because of the mod.

froyo vs original a2sd

Hello, I have been trying to search/understand what the pros and cons are of froyo a2sd vs the one people used before it. Anybody care to explain it to me? I have found something else called a2sd+, what is that about? If there is a thread explaining this, I apologize and would like the link to it.
Froyo way:
Data is moved in encrypted form to FAT32 partition on SD card.
Pros:
Nothing needed to set it up.
Cons:
Applications don't work when SD card is mounted. Widgets can't be moved. Monitoring apps can't be moved.
Applications don't get mounted early enough, icons disappear in non-stock launchers.
Needs to be supported by app creator (can be forced to SD through hacks).
Apps2SD(+ or not):
Creating another EXT2/3/4 partition on SD card, mounting it, making all or selected apps go there. 2 ways - either by symlink or by hacking the framework (doesn't exist on Froyo yet, existed in Cyanogen 5.X).
Pros:
Everything works as if the apps are on the phone.
Cons:
SD card needs to be repartitioned. Windows won't read this card when out of the phone, only Linux (until partitioned back to standard).
No framework support in Froyo yet (CM6.1 is expected to deliver it), so only the symlink method works (moving ALL apps).

[Q] Installing apps to external SD (or other folder in general)?

I am the proud owner of an LG Optimus 2X Speed.
It has an internal SD card. If you mount your own SD it is mounted under //mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD. How can I install apps to the external SD?
App2SD won't work. It just copies apps from flash to internal SD. (so //mnt/sdcard/).
I've searched high and low for an answer. The closest I've come to someone sharing my problem is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842053
But nobody has answered that thread...
Can't be done without mount point changes in the kernel.
Surely /data + /sdcard is sufficient for apps?
This is going to be like the 720p issue for the Nexus One, it will become the most hated question on this forum very quickly I feel...
My recommendation, which will give you more than you can use:
* apps to internal
* External app data to /sdcard
* Multimedia, roms, backups etc /ExternalSD
Some apps don't yet recognise /ExternalSD as a legitimate location so hassle the devs, it's standard Android (now).
Well, the main problem is the maps from CoPilot Live. The Europe maps can't be downloaded since they are too big. I would like to have them on the ExternalSD. This may be going beyond the scope of the original question, but since that's the main reason I'm asking it would be appreciated...
So, how can I make Copilot Live download to the External SD? Or can't you make some symlink so that the apps can be on External SD but Android thinks they're on internal ?

The easiest way around this probably is to contact the app dev and ask him to implement a way users can select where to grab those files from.
I wonder how this issue was resolved with the Galaxy S, didn't that one have an internal SD too?

Yes, the above answer is correct. It's not just the easiest way, it's the best way.
I realise it's a practical problem for you but via the dev is the only way really. They should be quicker (especially for paid apps!) because this "issue" (internal SD) has been around since what, May last year...
Until we get a custom kernel it can't be solved (except via dev) and even with a custom kernel that re-mapped everything I'd be very hesitant to do this, it will break standard stuff I'm sure.

I'm by no means an expert with Android, but I've been using UNIX since working at Bell Labs in the mid-70s and I've used the link command to "fool" many a UNIX app. As it happens, you could use the same command "ln" to do the same. Just create a directory on ExternalSD and ln that one into the directory tree at the desired "mount" point. For CoPilot, that would probably be /SD/copilot/EU, SA, NA, etc. It should work fine since CoPilot almost certainly cannot "see through" this link - that, while possible, would be a true violation of standards.
I've done something similar with Android to put application cache space in one place on the SD mount-point. See here -> androidcommunity dot com/forums/f4/updated-move-caches-to-sd-card-11167 for details (I haven't done enough posts to be able to post a link). Just use a variation on this method to put the copilot maps where you have space. This worked for every app I tried it with.
That's just my opinion... I could be wrong,
A
Is there a solution for this issue by now?
I found a application Move2SD Enabler (root only) but I guess is work only for Froyo. I whant to install on my Galaxy S Plus ( i9001) but it's not compatible with device.
On my galaxy S Plus all aps in moved on internal sd card ( //mnt/sdcard ) not on my external sd card .
one of the most discussed topics on this phone is, everyone wants it!

I did install GL to SD, and it is working for me with GAMELOFT games, it is working perfectly, but how can I use this app with any other application and game that I install and it is located on internal SD card?
Try this app. Can be used for any application - just move the bigger folders to your external SD with Directory Bind:

[Q] Definitive (?) and final (?) word on .android_secure

Greetings and salutations... name's Mike, I'm a Galaxy S™ GT-I9000 user, and for the last 6 months I've often referred to xdadevelopers for guidance, although I'd never yet posted before this. You guys have helped me go from zero to quite a library of knowledge when it comes to Android in general and my specific device in particular.
Reason I'm posting is I've spent a couple of hours (at least ) searching for a good answer to my question, which does involve the .android_secure folder but is maybe a bit more specific than I've been able to find. There seems to be scattered info everywhere about this file but no central, complete, all-inclusive answer that I've been able to find. From what I've put together .android_secure is where 2.2+ stores apps which have been moved to SD, and I understand that if, when doing a nandroid backup, one gets a message to the effect that .android_secure is not found so backup of <location> will be skipped, one needn't worry because it means there's nothing to backup. What I want to make sure of is that in my case, I'd really not be missing out on backing up something because I don't see how it makes sense. In my case:
- I have internal SD of 16GB and external SD also 16GB
- I use App 2 SD Pro to move whatever apps can be moved
- I seem to have .android_secure only on the *external* SD but not on the internal one
When I do a nandroid backup from recovery, everything goes well except near the end, just before the MD5 checksums, I get this: "No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications external storage." At first this would seem to make sense, since as I said, I can see I have .android_secure only on the external SD . . . but . . . I don't know if those apps on external SD are being backed up or not during the nandroid process - I don't "see" it happening . . . are they? Does backup from recovery (whether CWM, Dark Core Kernel, Speedmod, etc.) even look at the external SD?
On a related note: I know nandroid backup doesn't backup personal data like .MP3 files and .JPG/.PNG images (or does it?) . . . I store all those types of files on the external SD (not the internal), so that, since I sometimes flash ROMs, kernels, etc, if I ever screw things up so badly that I would need to reformat the internal SD, I know I wouldn't lose all those files. My related question here is, do you consider this reasoning sound? Would you advise for or against putting gigabytes worth of songs and pictures on the external SD... or does it matter?
I know this is a long message... my apologies ... your input would be much appreciated and allow me to tie up a bunch of loose ends . . . little holes in all the info I've picked up in just over half a year .

The nandroid doesn't back up ext sd, but that doesn't matter, it won't get wiped unless you choose to format it everyone gets that message

[Q] How to make SD card as Internal memory in Samsung Note

Dear All,
I am using Samsung note my internal memory is full. Recently I have purchased 32 GB SD Card and I have transferred by music, videos and pics to SD card.
I want to know is there is any option by which application automatically gets installed in SD card?
Please Help.
i have the same question, pls help
manually via the free app2sd on play, I dont know of one that does it automatically, it would be nice if there was one.
John.
Hello
I don't think so there a trick available for the same.
But there are apps available in the play store, using them you can move your any installed apps in to SD card...

You can change the SD card to be internal memory by doing the following system settings > storage > storage configuration > use internal storage. Works fine for me.
no such settings in ICS here

Hell Yeah. You can move between tablet and phone mode or a hybrid of the two as well as per app density changes. i use this with the Thor V11 kerenl and its about 40% quicker than stock ICS and so many new features. You won't regret the move.
sad that I cant see any paranoidandroid rom 0.2 video on youtube.
BTW Thor V11 kerenl - what it exactly does?

There are loads of v0.1 examples on there, even the official thread has some however v0.2 has a lot more features and is smoother. If I have time I will make one tonight after work and upload for you. No guarantees though.
The kernel acts as a mediator for your programs and your hardware. First, it does (or arranges for) the memory management for all of the running programs (processes), and makes sure that they all get a fair (or unfair, if you please) share of the processor's cycles. In addition, it provides a nice, fairly portable interface for programs to talk to your hardware.
There is certainly more to the kernel's operation than this, but these basic functions are the most important to know. Obviously each kernel does things in different ways however I found Thor V11 with undervolting and overclocking to be by far the best.

OP-Do you research before doing anything dangerous. Since this threat is for Desire HD and not Galaxy Note. Be very careful.
If you have that 32GB micro-SD, you can use it as your phone's internal SD card with an easy vold.fstab swap. Your reduced capacity internal storage would then become your "external" SD card. This link should help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377628

Swapping internal and external SD cards for Clockworkmod?

Hi, I'm new to the SGS after having used a ZTE Blade for a couple of years.
I've got this thing pretty much setup how I want. Running a stripped down CM10.1 nightly with hugemem enabled using the semaphore kernel.
I've swapped the internal and external SD cards by modifying vold.fstab. I needed to do this because I have games that download huge amounts of data to the sd card.
I also have more game apk's than can fit in the phones internal data so some of them are moved to the SD card. Here's where the problem lies.
Clockworkmod doesn't know that the internal and external SD cards are swapped. It has the internal and external labels the wrong way around on its backup and restore routines. Hardly a major problem, but what is a problem is that it's backing up an empty .android_secure folder from the internal SD card.
Is there anything I can do about? Some setting to swap internal and external cards in CWM? Or alternatively get the rom to use the internal sd card for .android_secure despite the sd cards being swapped?
It's not the end of the world because after restoring a rom I can just restore outdated and missing apps using Titanium. I'd just like my backup to be complete if it's possible to do!
Thanks.
Nice question mate, I haven't seen someone with that issue before, may be just because they are happy enough with their swapped memories and don't think about backups. I think that for now you have to use TB to backup your apps correctly and hopefully cwm team will fix that. Have you tried to reinstall recovery?
I only actually noticed it because after switching form the Blade (an ARMv6 phone) to the SGS (ARMv7) I gradually added a load of games to my phone that were now compatible and yet my backups were getting smaller! I noticed the android_secure backup file was 0 bytes and that's when I worked out what was happening - I was moving the bigger stuff to SD and it wasn't getting backed up.
As for re-installing recovery, I switched to the Semaphore kernel and it replaced the recovery with a different one which has the same problem as the CM10.1 version.
Ok, so that's not a solution. The worst part of the story is that folder .android_secure is harder accessible even than any system files and paths. If you find a way to open it you may copy all the apk.s to some safe directory and this way you have at least the installation data of your apps and you have just to reinstall them ( I realize it's not such an easy if they are >100). Better than search the net again or copy from pc. How much easier it would be if we just have to copy apk file of the app to/data/data or .android_secure instead of installing it to get it in your app drawer. XD
A google search found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31148760&postcount=369
So they've at least thought about this scenario on the SGS2! I wonder if any of the SGS1 devs around here here have fixed this in their recovery without us knowing?
Cool dude, nice find. I think you loose nothing if you try that.
I'm not sure flashing recovery for another model is a good idea? On my last phone you couldn't even use recovery from a different software revision of the same phone hardware!
In any case, isn't recovery part of the kernel on the SGS? Flashing a kernel always seems to change it anyway. Which again, differs from what I'm used to.
I was more hoping this would prompt one of the devs to fix it or point me to one they'd already fixed in the past that I'm unaware of.
