Basically each time I'd update to the latest version of a rom. I'd have to wipe my phone, so I'd have a titanium backup of the arrangement of my apps in folders etc. So each time i'd simply restore the backup and my newly installed apps would each be in the appropriate folder and each of my widgets on my homescreens in the right positions.
My question is, i've just upgraded from i9300 to i9305 and Ive just installed my usual apps. Could I simply restore my touchwiz backup from my i9300 which I still have saved to my memory card or will this create issues?

On the contrary. OP is talking about app backups made with Titanium Backup, not full I9300 ROMs...
I sent backups from my I9100 to my I9305 with no dramas.
I think start with app only restore and see how it goes.
Just do a CWM backup first in case

Hi Guys,
I have flashed my Note for the first time, I've gone for Rocket Rom V21.
all is working fine, however I had to do a wipe for the rom to work, so I'm missing all the text messages, app/settings, and calendar dates.
I do have a backup from yesterday done with CWM.
My question is, how can I apply or retain all of the above on my newly flashed rom?

I think that the backup you made is localised to your ROM. So you may be unable to use the backed up data in the new ROM. Or you might have to modify/move somethings. Best of luck

Well I have restored my backup sucessfully just to check it, because people always reccomend having a backup of your working system if you are going to flash new roms.
The backup is functioning perfectly with all my texts and calendar dates in tact.
So I have an opportunity to back up these items, so what would you reccomend to do this?

Titanium Backup will backup all Apps and Settings. I believe the newer versions of titanium Backup can extract backed up files from nandroid (CWM) backups.
if you wipe then it wipes the internal memory (dont confuse this with the 11gb storage space) you need to back up the messages with an app that will allow you to do this
if you have root then i use mybackup root if you dont have root then there are plenty of apps onthe market that will backup and restore your messages
I suggest you restore the previous ROM; install Titanium Backup and execute a backup of "all user apps + system data"; flash again your favorite ROM, then restore the apps + data you want.

If you use Titanium Backup dont do a mass restore (all file at once) while it dont will put it onto SD card! the apps and the phone memory will be full and some error etc.

No its no necessary..it'l b a lengthy process so do some apps at once like 20.. no error ever occured to me..
in titanium backup setting there is a option which let you choose if you want to install apps in sdcard, phone memory or android way
choose android way then TB will install some apps in phone memory and some apps in sdcard so need to restore app individually
also TB is better than nandroid backup and never ever restore system data with TB
use titanium backup (i recommend pro version)to backup all user apps...then u flash new rom.....then u run restore missing apps with data...not anything else...
I tried yesterday to restore 30 apps from batch and fail.
Apps was backuped form stock rom.

I use Titanium Backup Pro. Restore and run batch until notify Batch verification finished 0 error found. But not found restore files anywhere. Does I missing some step?
I always restore around 80apps at once and never had any problem..

Yes its possible.
Simply install titanium backup or Mybackup application from the market. The pro versions are better at a small fee
Then from the current ROM back up all the apps you want. this back up is stored in the SD card and so wount be affected by Flashing a custom ROM.
Now flash the desired ROM and again install either of the applications you used to backup the apps from the market. i.e if you used titanium backup to back up your apps, then install titanium back up from the market.
then select restore option to restore your applications!

I tried restoring when I went from Blazer ROM to CM10 but it just gave me errors and force closes. Is there a specific way in TB to restore in a different ROM or do you basically have to start off with a clean slate?

Nandroid backup is the type of backup that CWM does.
i.e. when your phone is rooted you can go into the recovery and one of the options is nandroid backup.
A nandroid backup copies every single byte of data stored in the phone onto your SD card (or wherever) and is an absolute backup of one particular state of your phone.
It is a very powerful tool, you do a nandroid backup before flashing anything and if it all goes wrong the nandroid backup will restore everything back to the way it was before you messed it all up.
(with the Note you need to be careful because the nandroid backup does a wipe and write on restore and that will trigger the hard brick issues with the leaked ICS ROMs that you will no doubt have read about in the stickies.

Thats incorrect as per my post regarding backup cwm does not take a snapshot of whole phone. One more thing you need to backup seperately is efs. See my thread on that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606012

Have you been downloading all of your apps every time you flash a new ROM ?
You can restore user apps and data.
Just don't restore any system app/data

for me the RomCustomizer by ficeto is great app for restoring, backuping, uninstalling apps, and I never restore any data. If the app which I use have option to save/restore settings I do that (and this kind of data is usualy saved on internal sd) same thing is for gps navigation programs (maps are always saved on internal sd)
so after flashing new rom, first thing is installing rom customzer, then restoring user and also some system apps (I do backup of some system apps which is updated, it saves my time from updating via playstore)
and thats it, new rom is set up in about 30min
this way I dont have any problems with any rom and any app I used

till now I just have restored some user app+data from titanium, some download again from market. never restore system app or data.
once I have deleted my internal card and download all app again cuz some people had problem with performance of that rom and this want recommend. also I wanted a bit clean my phone.
ok, now I am confuse. it's safe restore user data or better just save data if the app has this in option and then restore?

Both are safe. The latter method requires you to individually restore data while in the former you can batch restore data. Which one you want to use is up to you.
so for the best performance of a new ROM is NOT nesesary format internal card and NOT restore app+data ?

I have CWM and I hear that I can make a backup using that and then use Titanium Backup to extract and install apps from that backup, but will that restore settings/data? Another thing I was wondering about is carrying across contacts. I also have Link2SD installed which moves apps to a partition on my SD card then creates symbolic links to them on the phone, but will these apps be included in the backup or cause any problems down the line? Finally, I'm currently running a ROM (Troll of Steel) based on CM9 and the one I'm planning on switching to is also CM9 based. Is it worth switching to CM10 or CM10.1 (I hear CM9 is less laggy than CM10/10.1 on Aces) and is there any way to get the stock camera working on CM9 ROMs?

Okay, so here are 3 questions, not 1.
1. You may try Titanium , although I have never used it so cannot comment on it.
2. Yes all your Apps (even the ones linked to sd-ext will be Backed up as they are.
3. CM 10/10.1 are still facing some issues, while in CM 9 most issues are solved in Final 3 version by Maclaw.
And lastly if you find any CM 9 Rom with solid battery life do lemme know.

Hi CarteNoir,
You can use CWM (5.0.2.6 fixed) for making a rom's nandroid backup: so if you then restore that backup (from CWM), you reinstall the same rom with the same settings and apps/datas (all of them).
You can use Titanium Backup for backup apps/datas and then restore individually/bunched in the same or in another compatible rom.
You can use nandroid manager for restore apps/datas directly from nandroid backups in the same or in a different (but compatible) rom within that last rom (as nandroid manager is an application itself, it doesn't need CWM for restoring).
