[How to] Root from stock 4.2.x in 1 minute - Nexus 7 General

Since I've seen many people downgrade to 4.1.2 just to use unsecure kernel first and root then upgrade to 4.2 and some still wonder how to install root on latest stock android, here's easy steps for you:
1. Let's say you have just installed factory image from Google. You don't need unsecure kernel. Download SuperSU Binary for CWM to your tablet.
2. Reboot to bootloader (adb reboot bootloader)
3. Type: fastboot flash recovery xxxxxx.img (where xxxxxx.img will be the filename of your favorite recovery. I choose CWM Touch since it's working good)
4. Boot to recovery and install SuperSU Binaries.
5. Reboot and you are done! Now you have fully working root without modified unsecure kernel fast and easy.
Note: tested it twice and it works. Hope this clears some questions.
Hit thanks if that helped you.
Have a nice evening!
Edit: Works for all android versions.

Actually, you forgot to mention unlocking the bootloader.

OK...so I will still get OTA updates?

I can beat that
Code:
fastboot boot superboot.img
Wait for the bootanimation (the colorfull X) to show up, reboot (by holding the power button till it reboots if it got stuck at the anim) - DONE

Yes unless you change any system apps or odex files.... If you don't want ota updates install from market fotakill.apk
I am not so sure about using adb commands etc I use the root kits and these work fine on 4.2 and 4.2.1

Of course you must have unlocked bootloader first, as well as usb debugging if you wanna reboot via adb.

CWM trouble

Hi Guys,
A newbie here and of course I'm in trouble. HTC One International version.
Few weeks ago I unlocked the bootloader by HTC One Toolkit 1.9.3 and HTCDEV unlock token.
Installed CWM Mod Tuuch recovery.
Now I receive the E: Can't mount error with CWM...hence CWM won't also root the phone so it's Unlocked but unrooted.
Anyway, yesterday came the 4.3 OTA update...I downloaded and automatically tried to install it. It reboots to CWM and then of course get's stuck into CWM as it can't mount SD or anything...
Also for a strange reason whenever I go to Fastboot Windows 8 won't recognize the USB device...tried installin the HTC drivers, installed and uninstalled and installed again HTC Sync manager but still nothing...tried different USB cables, different USB ports..still nothing
What should I do to get CWM working and install the OTA?
The phone does boot to 4.2.2. ROM and works fine but as the OTA is downloaded is whines every now and then that I should install the update which I can't do..
Download an up-to-date recovery.img from the cwm thread and flash it via fastboot. There are several tutorials out there how to do that. Hope it will help

That's the question I keep asking myself....
Actually I thought of trying custom ROM. But then as the CWM had errord I had not the time to fiddle with that. So I thought that when I have time I'll deal with that.. Then came the update and surely I wanted to try the new 4.3 and Sense....
I guess now I need to have the time to deal with this..

Select 'Recovery' to boot into it.
Choose 'Mount' and check 'System'
Now try adb shell to check, if you have access to your Phone. If you have so, download a ROM, for example AICP, which I prefer, and copy it to your sd with this commad:
Code:
adb push C:\Path\to\you\rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip
If this completes successfull go to the homescreen of twrp -> Install and choose this zip file.
For AICP you have to flash GApps after you flashed the ROM. I'll provide you the links:
AICP: http://tunsd.de/downloads/ICJ/AICP/m7ul/aicp_m7ul_jb-mr2_unofficial_2013-10-19.zip
GAPPS: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Push both zips to your sdcard as I described above and flash them in the priority I put the links..

[Q] Boot Loop & more

Going through the process to repair my phone has educated me on tremendously about the errors of my ways. If anyone can provide any beneficial assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

I originally had CWM recovery on there and wanted to use the TWRP recovery instead since it had the HTC dumblock on there, which helped out before. While my phone was in it current condition, I downloaded TWRP and flashed it into my HTC ONE. I know I must have done so wrongfully because now when I try to go into recovery... it freezes during "entering recovery" and reboots into boot loop.
from bootloader open a cmd window and type
fastboot erase cache
See if that helps

I've made that attempt already. But the strange thing is that it executes the command, but if used again it will give me a list of blocks and inods or something like that. But I will try the command and reboot the system. Ill update with the outcome.

Okay I erased the cache, it confirmed the command. I rebooted and of course it was in boot loop. I entered bootloader, then to recovery... and the same problem persisted.

- Just go to a recovery, select "apply update from ADB"
- install drivers for "Nexus 4" device (this can be tricky, on win8.1 you need to manually install it as Android Composite ADB Interface)
- try adb devices to check if you have connection with your device
- type adb sideload PATH/TO/1c6f10c34ed54fb29844906b2f041c900ba23a6b.signed-occam-LRX21T-from-KTU84P.1c6f10c3.zip
Please note that updating take a minimum of 30 minutes, so be patient and do not reboot your device even if you think it's stuck, you might soft-brick it.

[Q] After flashing TWRP, XT1063 only boots to the unlocked warning screen

My apologies if this has already been posted. I've been looking all morning but haven't seen anyone with the same issue.
Unlock bootloader: no problem.
Flash TWRP: I downloaded from http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/275, and I got an error about partition size mismatch, but that's ok, right?
But when I try to enter recovery, all I get is the warning screen that my phone is unlocked. The drivers are certainly installed correctly, and fastboot is working fine. I just can't get into recovery to flash a ROM!
Restoring to 4.4.4 stock worked like a charm.

But Flashify requires root, I see? The reason I'm trying to flash a custom recovery is so I can root in the first place.

You're right. Latest motorola driver and [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot will do the trick.
Sorry, I should have clarified that when flashing TWRP, I've already been using fastboot.exe from a command line (and administrator level), with the drivers correctly installed. That's how I was able to unlock in the first place.
I did try it with the version of Fastboot you linked to (what I have works peachy for my Nexus 7), still the same thing. I can't boot into recovery and only get stuck at the Motorola unlocked warning.

Oh. Sorry. Can you post the output (terminal & device) of
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery NAME_OF_RECOVERY.img
I'd done "fastboot devices" already to verify, and it returns the serial number, though as I said it's clearly working since I was able to unlock as well as flash recovery. I'm flashing "TWRP2801-titan-motog-2014.img" that I downloaded from the TWRP site, and fastboot gives the standard messages about size and success (and my phone gives the size mismatch error).
It's so strange to me. I've flashed a custom recovery dozens of times on both generations of my Nexus 7s, but I've never seen this.

Yeah......have to meditate about that problem....... is your battery low? Fastboot mode of the device gives me all sorts of problems if it detects low battery
I had been using fastboot at 100% (literally finished a full charge) and 84%, but thanks for the continued attempts at explanation.

If you are willing to risk it, try a fresh download and try again. I've flashed TWRP more than 20 times by now and never recieved an error whatsoever. It basically the easiest thing to do.
Incase you are stuck again, don't reflash the entire stock rom. Just flash the recovery.img from the stock rom files.
OR
Try this:
HOW TO ROOT MOTO G 2014 with Temporary Custom Recovery
Cheers
I've flashed a custom recovery many a time and have helped people through it, though on Nexus 7s.
Now shall I compound the mystery? I didn't think yet to use ADB to make my phone reboot to recovery. I had assumed recovery wasn't working. So here we go, after booting into Android:
adb reboot devices: my phone's there.
adb reboot recovery: TWRP's working?! And now root is complete!
It doesn't make sense to me why I can't get into recovery from the bootloader, but I can get into it with the simple ADB command. But I appreciate all the help, thanks!

[GUIDE] Marshmallow Root Guide for ZE500KL

ATTENTION!
You MUST read all the guide BEFORE doing it, if you do it without reading all of it first you may ends up bricking your phone!
Prerequisites:
Asus ZE500KL (may work on ZE500KG, but haven't tested, do it on your own risk) on Marshmallow, NOT LOLLIPOP!
Also, it must have fully booted AT LEAST one time, otherwise, you'll soft-brick it.
If your phone is not on Marshmallow, you can use THIS guide insteadDownload and put the unlocker zip file and the SuperSu zip file in the phone
How To:
1 - Install adb and fastboot driver (follow THIS guide)
Now you can connect the phone to your computer2 - Reboot in fastboot mode with one of the following method:
a -Volume Up while booting upb -With adb, after enabling USB debugging in developer settings, using:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Now that you are in bootloader, you have to boot in TWRP,
download THIS recovery (is the twrp one) and boot in to it, using this command:
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
Code:
fastboot boot TWRP-x-x-x-x.img
(Obviusly the recovery name must be the one you downloaded)
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
It should automaticaly enter in recovery.
Now you MUST flash FIRST ZE500KL_BootloaderUnlock.zip, otherwise you'll brick your phone
Btw, the recovery will mount your phone's memory, so you can put now the files in the phone, if you forgot to do it before
AFTER you installed the unlocker zip, you can install the SuperSu zip
When the install is complete, clear the cache and reboot your phone, now you can enjoy your root!

i think isnt permanent, this step is needed to boot into twrp then flashing a unlockBL..
to make permanent.. the command must "fastboot flash recovery twrp_X.X.X.X.img"
but make sure to unlock bootloader first...

Is it me or everytime I reboot the device after rooted, it's going back to unrooted?
Root is a success tho, great job, OP!
Edit: okay, not every reboot, but after several reboots, then it went back unrooted
