Q&A for CM10 roms on the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4g (n00b friendly) - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

OK so I know how crowded some of the forums have gotten, so I made this, for every question asked here I will update the op and next three posts with all the questions and answers. Basically I am trying to get ring of having to search hundreds of pages for an answer. So please be kind here.
Always remember to do a search of a question before you ask on xda. Not saying you need to search every single page of a forum, but don't ask a question that was answered 5 pages ago.

[Q] One thing I noticed is that now my connection shows as 3G instead of 4G. Do I really have a problem with my data connection or does this ROM exposes T-Mobile's fake 4G for what it is?
[A]You are correct it shows H when you are in Tmobiles"4G" area nothing wrong with your phone. Here is the link if you would like to have a 4g icon instead. 4G Icon Fix Link updated
[Q]In the stock ROM, they have a task manager which I get used to as a habit to run that and "Clear memory" from time to, but i can't find the task manager in CM10, where can i find that?
[A] I have tried this and it does work. Good find Task Manager
[Q]When upgrading from CM9 to CM10, what do I need to wipe? I read that I need to wipe data, cache, & dalvik. Do I also need to format system?
[A]in CWM, or TWRP whichever you prefer, do a romwipe and dalvic cache and then just install cm10, gapps, and whatever else you want i.e 4g icons tiptop mms. and your set

Wifi Calling CM10
any updates on T-Mobiles Wifi calling APK? I have tried Groove IP, Google Voice and Sidecar... but they just don't work like the T-mobile version...

Thanks so much for the ROM, it's amazing (sorry, i can't post on the ROM thread, since i just made the account to say thank you, my account is still noob status )

Request for Help: CWM Clarifications for CM10 Install Prep
(UPDATE 11/29/12 8:55PM: Updated to include a complete installation list based on the advice I received from this and other threads, which worked flawlessly. This process assumes an upgrade from a stock ROM. I don't know if there are any differences moving from another custom ROM. Note that these instructions use CWM. Some developers prefer the newer option of twrp instead of CWM, found here.)
Thanks for opening up this CM10-specific, newbie-friendly thread, tazmaniondvl! I've been lurking through the CM10 thread for the past few weeks and have finally decided to take the plunge and install it. Since I've been unable to find a tutorial that meshes cleanly with the Exhibit-based CWM 6.0.1.2 package (found here), I compiled the below list of steps.
Thanks to all the developers taking the time to build these Exhibit packages, and helping us enjoy our phones even more!
Prerequisites:
Device is already rooted
Battery is charged.
There is sufficient(?) room on the SD card and internal memory.
The thread found here has the latest CM and gApps downloads.
Installation:
Download and install the Exhibit-based CWM 6 package. Verify CWM recovery is working.
Download and place the latest Exhibit-based CM10 and Exhibit-based gApps packages onto the External/Internal SD card.
Backup all user applications and data (contacts, call logs, messages) to the external SD using Titanium/Go Backup.
Make a list of all user applications you critically need at restart (backup/restore programs, preferred browser, basic utilities), to ease the reinstallation process.
Reboot to Recovery.
Select Backup from CWM menu to create a ROM backup.
Under the Wipe menu of CWM, choose to wipe the ROM.
Under the Wipe menu of CWM, choose to wipe the cache.
Under the Wipe menu of CWM, choose to wipe the cache/dalvik.
Install the CM10 ROM.
Install the gApps package.
Select "Fix Permissions" under the CWM Advanced menu.
Reboot, and enjoy the bliss that is CM10.
Download the apps used to backup up user data, and perform the restore.
Reinstall all applications from the Play store directly, rather than restore from backup.

Hi there.
Very green noob here. I just flashed my virgin Exhibit II 4G to 11/26/2012 build. I'm still restoring apps but everything looks good so far. One thing I noticed is that now my connection shows as 3G instead of 4G. Do I really have a problem with my data connection or does this ROM exposes T-Mobile's fake 4G for what it is?
Thanks for all the great work!

Task Manager
Hi again,
I'm new to using custom ROM, now that I have played more around with the CM10 ROM, I got question: in the stock ROM, they have a task manager which I get used to as a habit to run that and "Clear memory" from time to time (since we all know how the stock rom is laggy and stuff), but i can't find the task manager in CM10, where can i find that?
I don't like the ones in play store as they seem to be a bit complicated (that can kill system processes?), is there a way to get the stock or stock-like task manager (is that touchwiz task manager btw?) in CM10?
I read the CM10 thread, and someone posted this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876216
Can I download and use that even it's not for our phone??
Thank you in advance.

So i have looked over the link of what you have posted, i have not tried that or seen anything like it. However if you would like to try it, download the zip and flash in cwm or twrp, then go to advanced and fix permissions.
EDIT: Just flashed it and it works just fine. Just actually have to click on the app itself instead of holding the home button like on 2.3.6

You might just try Fast Reboot from the Play Store. Works instantly and doesn't actually reboot, just frees up a ton of RAM.

[Q] Best Practices (Titanium Backup, CM7)

OK, so I have CM build #34 and Titanium Backup Pro installed on my Nexus One with all of my apps apps and settings backed up and synced to Dropbox. I also use ROM Manager Premium for handling my CM7 nighties.
I have tried different variations of wiping data and cache\installing Google Apps\restoring all apps and settings with Titanium Backup but I think I am doing something wrong as I usually end up having to enter login and password information on a lot of my apps (once I get them back on my phone).
If my plan is to update to the latest CM7 version every night, what are the proper steps to do so?
Here is what I think I should do:
1. Back up all apps and settings using Titanium Pro
2. Download latest CM7 version
3. When ROM Manager asks if I want to download Google Apps, I check YES
4. After the download is complete, ROM Manager asks if I would like to Backup Existing ROM (I leave unchecked) and Wipe Date and Cache (I only check this if I am having major issues with the CM7 nightie)
5. ROM loads, phone reboots
(Here is where I start getting really confused)
6. Google asks me to sign in. I skip the sign in
7. Join wireless
8. Restore all apps and settings from Titanium Backup
9. Google keeps on asking me to sign in with my Google account.
10 I sign in and usually have issues with Twitter, work email (Exchange), Facebook, etc. Some apps that I know I had installed and configured do not show up but when I go to the Market they show as Purchased and I have to re-download them. Later when I have Twitter and Facebook configured, if I go to Settings> Accounts and Sync, it only shows Gmail and my work email (no Facebook or Twitter). If I try adding Facebook and Twitter, it never goes to the sign in screen. I can back out and see and use Facebook and Twitter on my home screen though.
Questions:
If I am downloading only CM7 nighties, should I download and install Google Apps every night (why else would ROM Manager prompt me for it and include it with every CM7 nightie)?
When using Titanium Backup, should I still sign in to my Google account on my phone or just skip it and restore all settings, apps and data?
Can someone lay out an easy step-by-step best way to accomplish what I am attempting? I think this would help a lot of novice users who want to experience the awesome custom ROMs that are floating around.
Thank you all for your time and effort!

Then why do I have do I have to keep re-entering all types of logins after upgrading to a new CM7 nightie ?
You say not to wipe data and cache. What about the rest of my post? Any other advice?
Just flashover the top of what u got
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You should try logging in to Google first before restoring your apps with Titanium Backup. Then reboot. Usually that will restore the list of apps that you installed in the Market.
If not, then clear your market data and cache and do a reboot again.
So I always should install Google Apps every time I get prompted by ROM Manager just before I start installing a nightie? Then just flash the new CM7 version without wiping Data and Cache?
I didn't say anything about flashing gapps again, just flash the newer nightly over your old nightly.

OK, tried what you said (not flashing gapps) and just flashed to the newest CM7 nightie. I also did not delete Data and Cache. Now the Market, Talk, Car Home, Voice (looks like all the Google apps) do not work. I'm getting pop ups stating that I need to sign in to my Google account but when I go to Settings>Accounts and Sync, There is no option for me to add my Google credentials. I see nothing except corporate email and FaceBook (no Twitter Either---and I have that installed).
That is why I was asking earlier if I should get the gapps every time I flash to a new nightly build. Every time I don't download Google Apps along with the CM7 nightie, I always loose a ton of settings and functionality along with not having access to all of my Google Apps.
Btw, I did a full restore of Titanium Backup Pro (all apps and data) after I flashed to the new CM7 nightie b/c of the problem stated earlier in this post.
Any thoughts?
I have no idea what is going wrong then.
Every few days I download the nightly, flash it without any wipes right over top of my current system, and use my phone. All settings stay working, I haven't flashed gapps for a long while now.
It is pretty much a one step process for me. It sounds like there is some sort of strange wiping going on for you though.
I had this issue when I used ROM Manager to download the ROM.
Here's what to do, just download the nightly from this link,
http://mirror1.kanged.net/nightly/passion/
Then use ROM Manager to install from zip, don't wipe or clear anything.
This will let you flash it over with no issues.
Ah, that could very well be it. I am always downloading it manually and flashing from it manually in Rom Manager.

after you flash the new nightly build on top of your current, are you restoring anything via Titanium?
When restoring system data, i found that the order in which its restored makes the difference between things working and not.
I had a similar problem a while back... after a complete wipe and fresh install of CM + Gapps i used TB to restore everything including system app data. after the restore, everything looked OK. If i was to check settings/accounts & sync, everything was there correctly. But when I tried to run a system app, I'd have nothing but problems..(G-Talk & Latitude wouldnt log in, Market was jerked, Gmail would FC...FB and twitter would keep asking for my password..etc). The way I got it to work was to wipe all system data, then in a logical order, restore it again one app at a time with a reboot between each restore.
Its alot easier to just manually enter all account info. Then use TB (if needed) to restore things like FB, Twitter, Wifi & BT settings.
Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but typing this made the bus ride home alot quicker.

CyanogenMod 7 for Captivate Q&A

CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.4) for Galaxy S
The only rule of CyanogenMod: you don't ask for ETAs. You install, your warranty is void.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!
INSTRUCTIONS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
Latest version: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=captivatemtd
Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Captivate (or coming from another ROM)?
Easy way:
Start with a rooted Eclair/Froyo running Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders (do not ask us how to do this).
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Captivate (MTD) (ignore the warning about not having an official, pick ClockworkMod 2.x).
Make sure you can reboot into ClockworkMod recovery from ROMManager. Reboot and get back into ROMManager Premium.
Choose download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe data, cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Harder way:
Make sure you're running a Eclair/Froyo Firmware (2.1 or 2.2) and Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders!
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)
- Upgrading from earlier CM7?
ROM Manager method:
Install ROMManager Premium.
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Captivate (MTD) (ignore the warning about not having an official, pick ClockworkMod 3.x).
Choose Download ROMs.
Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
Check the Google Apps addon.
Check Backup current ROM!
Check wipe cache, dalvik cache.
Let ROMManager finish the installation.
Clockwork Mod method:
Download and push the ROM zip file to the sdcard.
Reboot into recovery.
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Install the ROM zip from sdcard (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
There are no Google Apps bundled with CM ROMs, because Google asked Cyanogen to remove copyrighted apps. After flashing the rom, don't forget to flash Google Addon package if you want it. ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for MTD devices, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps.
FAQ (Please Read!!)
Q: I don't have working three button recovery, is there anything I can do?
A: There is a CWM flashable zip that should be able to fix this at 3 Button Fix. That program is not part of CyanogenMod and we do not support it.
Q: Can I flash over a previous version of CM7?
A: If updating from an already CM7 running SGS phone, just flash the latest update zip file as it contains all the fixes from previous updates.
Q: I just installed and I don't see the Marketplace, cannot see GMail, cannot sync Contacts.
Q: I just installed and I don't see any Google Apps.
A: You need to install the Google apps. They are available in ROMManager. ROMManager also asks you if you want to install the Google Apps addon when you install via ROMManager.
Q: I restored from Titanium Backup but my applications are not working
A: Do not restore system data, only restore application+user data. CM7 uses new system data and if you restore on top of it, things will not work.
Q: My battery life is simply awful, any tips?
A: Wi-Fi, bluetooth, and GPS are major battery killers. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are particularly hungry, so turn them off when you don't need them.
Q: The phone booted but I'm not getting any signal, what gives?
Q: My phone takes a few minutes to establish a 3g signal after I turn it on, what gives?
A: Known issue with polling when staring up the network. Put the phone to sleep by pressing the power button and waking it up a few times and it will usually come up with a signal.
Q: I lost my SMSC information, how to I get it back?
A: Follow these steps to restore.
Q: When will Voodoo sound/color/sharpness be integrated?
A: Maybe some parts will be integrated someday, but there some UNSUPPORTED kernels available on the threads that do this already. Please direct any issues related to these to the appropriate developers, not us.
Q: Your notification toggles are different than mine, how can I change them?
A: Go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons
Q: I really miss the accurate battery mods, can I flash these?
A: No, but you can go into Settings, CyanogenMod Settings, Interface, Status bar tweaks, "Battery percentage"
Q: Where can I get themes for this?
A: A quick search for "theme engine" on the market will produce a number of results, but there are some in the general Android Themes section
Q: Can I use the video player/music player/contacts/phone/launcher from a Samsung ROM?
A: No, anything hooking into Samsung's framework will not work on this ROM, there are plenty of alternatives in the market.
Q: Where can I get the Nexus S drivers?
A: Download and install the Android SDK here then download "Google USB Driver package, revision 4"
Once downloaded, right click on "Computer", "Manage", "Device Manager", "Nexus S", "Update Driver Software", and point it to wherever you isntalled the SDK
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: The easiest way is to go back to stock using Odin and flashing a full firmware (including PIT file) with repartition checked (Odin One-Click does this by default on Captivate)
Q: Can I use ROM Manager to install or back up this ROM?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do I not see the nightlies in ROM Manager?
A: Nightly builds are only visible in the premium version of ROM Manager. Koush, the developer of ROM Manager is a key reason behind Galaxy S phones having CM7. You can buy it to show your support.
Q: The phone turns on whenever I plug it in, is there any way to prevent this?
A: This is also related to the kernel and for now is an annoying side effect we have to put up with.
Q: Why can't I play .avi or .mkv files? They worked fine with Samsung's ROM.
A: Due to codec licensing issues, this can't be provided out of the box. Several apps from the marketplace should be able to replicate this feature (such as RockPlayer)
Q: How do I flash a different modem? The one included doesn't work well with my phone.
A: Other modems are available here
Please do not attempt to flash ones from other threads as they use a different method of installing not compatible with our ROM.
Q: Can I use another kernel like Speedmod with this?
A: Yes, but you have to make sure it is compatible. We do not support any kernels except the one we install.
Q: GTalk doesn't work with FFC?
A: We can either have a fully fixed camera without gtalk video chat support (samsung libcamera)
or we can have a buggy camera with gtalk video chat support (opensource libcamera). We went with the fully working camera without GTalk FFC support. Once we have updated libs from Samsung for camera, it'll work.
Q: I encountered a bug, how do I find out if it's known and where can I report it?
A: You can look through the issue tracker here. If you do not see your issue, please report it. If someone else has it, please star it (but please do not file "Me too!" reports). Try to also attach the logcat output and last_kmsg to the bug report by:
Code:
desktop$ adb logcat > logcat.txt
desktop$ adb shell
# cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg (only if you had crash/reboot)
# dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
# exit
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/last_kmsg .
desktop$ adb pull /sdcard/dmesg.txt .
Attach the logcat.txt and last_kmsg files to the bug report. Of course, you need to have the android SDK installed to do this.
Thread is now stuck. I was gonna do one for it but was not sure on the CM teams want for it.
Yay dedicated Q & A. Anyways on to the questions.
In the second screenshot the lock toggle looks half transparent as if you can slide it. But mine just squish together, just curious if it is supposed to be like that.
Also, in those notification settings toggles when my icons are lit up white when on the white is not a pure white. It looks like crinkled paper, is that also designed this way? Thanks guys!
EDIT: Sorry but I also wanted to know about the non smooth gradients. I noticed in your screenshots they are smooth and mine are choppy bars of differing colors.
EDIT2: Ok I suppose my questions go unanswered

We're (well, really some of our users who are willing to help out) good with answering questions - the CM7 for Galaxy S series of phones (mostly Galaxy S, Vibrant and Captivate) is close, and getting closer though it will never be simple to install due to the new kernel and file system. It's the repeating of the same questions multiple tens of times that is bothersome and we will start ignoring.
I looked in cm7 settings-sound and don't see a way to raise system sound. Not a big deal just curious.
You're looking for Settings -> Sound -> Volume.
I may be blind for not noticing but is it possible to set pictures to be stored in the external SD somewhere in the camera settings? I looked all over and I can't find such an option

Unfortunately, it seems the CM/AOSP camera defaults to storing them on the first SD card (whichever that is) without a way to redirect to external. Though right now, there isn't much use to putting them on external as that can't be accessed directly from a computer through the current ROM. I suggest investing in a decent explorer application (like Root Explorer) and bulk moving the files to /mnt/emmc
I have 2 questions:
1) Do nandroid backups work?
2) I've tried moving swype and a few other apps to system/app but they fc. Is there something else I need to do?
Nandroid backups appear to work for me.
Swype beta works, download the installer and install Swype through it and you should be fine.

For swype I think you also need the .so file that's in the system/lib folder. But I have been too lazy to put swype in so I am not exactly sure.

check to see how much space you're using in /datadata with "adb shell df" or root explorer
I'll just try a complete Master Clear and everything with Odin......bye bye app backups
Also, when i reboot, its almost as if the phone resets or something cuz i get the Android robot startup screen that takes me through the process of signing into an account, backing up data, etc....
Maybe my google apps file was bad, i'll go re-download that

For the choppy bars, it's just the AOMLED display. It doesn't handle gradients well and the screenshots aren't of the actualy screen but what it is suppose to display.

the android robot startup is a part of gapps, walks you through the setup process.

***Please Help!!*** $40US Cash Reward!!

Ok this is my second attempt to get an answer for the issues I'm experiencing.
Hopefully someone out there knows whats up and can give me a real solution.
I will pay the person $40US via PayPal if you can help me solve the issues listed below.
Here we go...
I can flash any rom or kernal successfully, however once booted I can not restore TIBU or install anything from market. When I click ok on download at market is does nothing, just allows me to repeatedly click on download icon. But never begins download. The second issue is if I try to restore backups using TIBU, they never install, just sit there as if they are installing, but never do. Also if I try to install any apps sitting on my ext-sd, they do the same as TIBU, just sit there showing they are installing, but never do.
Having said all that! If I flash to stock JF6, everything works fine, no issues whatsoever.
Now I have repeated this process at least a dozen times with no changes. I have flashed just about every custom rom with the exact same results. But again, flashing back to stock, zero issues.
Please do not suggest I run market fix, as this does not explain my other issues with TIBU or installing apps from ext-sd.
Others have suggested using android id changer after I have installed custom rom, the issue there is I can never install it from market after I have flashed custom rom because of the above issues.
Please help, this is driving me crazy and thanks in advance to those that know what's going on and can direct me to a solution.
NOTE: Yes I do a Master Clear & Clean Dalvik cache after every flash !! After flashing to stock, I can root and modify settings file under dbdata to allow third party apps with no issues. All issues are directly related to custom roms only!
Up for a Cash Reward
Maybe an obvious question: Have you tried clearing the data and cache for the market.

I had a similar problem (apps would download and fail to install no matter how many times I downloaded) I also only had my problem with custom ROMs.

Obligatory flame about not reading the post.
Please try the below steps as they are so it would be easy to debug.
1. Backup ur data from internal SD to PC
2. Use one click to come to stock (don't root or install any stuff here, except enabling USB debugging)
3. Connect to computer, and mount drives
4. Quick format the internal SD on windows (if u r on windows; telling this cos I use windows)
5. Copy the ROM in my signature (dilligaf's 7.x) onto ur SD card
6. Reboot into recovery and install the ROM (do not use TiBu or do anything else at this point)
7. Go to settings and add ur market linked gmail account
Try connecting to market now n see if that works.

Guide for mounts2sd?

Can anyone provide a guide on how to install/configure mounts2sd for the Nexus One on Jelly Bean (CM 10.1) so that I can move my apps from my internal memory to my sd-ext?
I installed the app from Google Play and had nothing but trouble with it. It initially says that busybox isn't configured properly and that the init.d script is either missing or not installed. I proceed to configure busybox and install the init.d script, but after rebooting my "downloaded" apps disappear. These downloaded apps include the Google Play Store and mounts2sd! So even if I wanted to reverse the process, I can't because the app is gone.
I would appreciate if anyone could explain how to do this properly since there is very limited space on the Nexus One, especially after installing Jelly Bean on a custom HBOOT.
Thanks!
I think you have to put mounts2sd.zip on your SD card and flash it from recovery. That's how I use it and it's really straight forward if you have flashed anything before. I wasn't aware it could be installed as an app from playstore. Are you sure it's notjust a GUI for the script?

Nope, you should be fine with that. However, I recommend you flash it on right after you flash the ROM and before you install any apps.

I'm having tons of trouble with the app. I can't get it to work..I must be missing something. I've tried flashing it right after installing the rom (CM 10.1). I've tried installing it from the app store. I've even tried SuperSu just to see if something weird was happening there. I probably reflashed the rom like 5 times last night trying different ways of installing Mounts2SD.
Could it be that I used 4EXT Recovery RC9? I dunno how much of an effect using that recovery may have had since it is in testing..

What kind of problems are you having? Can you be more specific?
How to install on ROM MIUIv5
First: Mounts2SD is such a great tool!! Incredbly super software!
On Nexus One with 32GB sd card:
What best settings would you recommend in mounts2SD?
Is it good to make a swap partition? 1GB?
Which on should be set to sd-card? Apps, data, Cache & Dalvik-Cache and even System Apps?
One point:
If i configure the cache&system cache to be in internal memory, then the internal memory is quite full, so it's impossible to install bigger apps from play store. This only works, if i keep everything to sd-memory so that the internal memory is free. Now I found the setting "System > Storage Treshold". Would this one help with this problem?
But the max. setting is 10% (=20MB on Nexus1). Would that help even with bigger apps (> 20 MB) to install?
I now have all (except system apps) moved to sd, so that i can install bigger apps from play store, but my Nexus One it now very slow and constantly removing Apps from memory etc.
Who can give some hints?
Regards, Marc
I think better use INT2EXT to partition

Internal Memory Storage is Full - Help?

Hi All,
I originally posted this thread in the Help and Troubleshooting section, but it got no traction over a couple of weeks, was hoping someone can help me out here. I tried to delete that thread but was unable to do so...
I currently am using a stock D415 LG L90 (Running Lollipop). I have no intention of rooting anytime soon, but my internal memory keeps getting full from multiple apps I have downloaded. I have a 32GB SD Card which is only using half of its capacity. I currently have it set to save all images and video captured to be stored onto the SD Card.
In my previous phones, I was easily able to dedicate my SD card as my primary source of storage, thus never having to run into the issue of having no memory and what not. Are there any solutions like these available?
I am open to rooting, I am kind of picky of not voiding the warranty as I have only had the phone for 10 months, but if rooting is my only option, I am willing to go ahead and do so.
Did I misunderstood you, or do you want apps to be installed on external card?

I want literally everything on my SD card, and make it the primary source of storage. I have moved as much of apps, set the my camera to store images and video to my SD card, and tried my best to keep the internal storage as empty as possible, but this is at a point where I can't even update my apps because my phone's internal storage is full.
I have already moved as many possible apps from my internal storage to the external storage, but that hasn't helped by much.
There are lots and lots of junk files even if you think your phone is clear. Try some apps like clean master, it will also help you to manage the rest of your files.
Also, dunno if it helps you anyhow, but you may want to try link2sd or something like that to have control over apps space
I can't come up with other ideas, sorry for being somehow useless

I actually was using the Clean Master app, I think the best solution at this point would be to switch my primary storage to my SD card, it is kind of annoying having to always go back and clean up my internal storage every few weeks...

Use link2sd, create second partition on sd card, set it to 2gb or how much you want and then link the apps (basically it moves all of the app's data). You can search for a tutorial on how to do it. Then, you can set it to link every new installed app to sdcard and also relink it when it is updated automatically.
P.s. you need root for link2sd

Oh okay, thanks for the tips! Just out of curiosity, would installing a custom ROM be a better solution, where I just go in and manually change some of the code on the Android configuration files (as this was achievable in previous Android versions).

I don't know about this, but i can say stock 5.0.2 is the most stable rom so far and if you don't mind LG Smartcover, LG easyhome and lg weather( these lg apps are incompatible, but it will be fixed soon also for Lg l90/g2mini, as it was fixed for g3), you can install xposed alpha and the module xinternalsd which swaps internal sd to external sd, so apps will think like that. to install xposed follow this guide here. this will aditionally empty some space from your internal sd, alongside link2sd.

No, rooting your phone is a prerequisite of xposed. Rooting allows user to acces and modify system files. Xposed basically allows user to modify system files without actually touching them through the modified framework(the files will be the same after you uninstall module/xposed) . plus, xposed modules allow much more advanced operations (e.g: fixing lollipop memory leak, blocking wakelocks- amplify, snapchat mods- snapprefs, instagram downloading- xinsta, youtube adblocking). I gave you some other examples of xposed modules. However, if you want to install xposed, you need: root, unlocked bootloader and custom recovery. You could search for tutorials on xda on how to do this.
P.s : latest xposed version v70 released yesterday has full support for lg devices (you just have to install it and wipe dalvik cache, no need to delete apps)

WOAH - this sounds absolutely brilliant! In reality, one can go ahead and modify the storage configurations on the phone too, right?
I just rooted my device using the KingRoot method, would you mind sharing all the links that include the steps to achieving all of this for this device? I for some reason can't find it for the LG L90.
Thanks!

As far as i get, you are a beginner, so you should be very careful installing those files. you could brick your device ! OK, here it is :
1. backup your data
2. rooting - follow this guide (it also works for L90), if you already rooted with kingroot but didn't switch to supersu (highly recommended), skip step 1 and 2. If you get in any trouble also check post #11.
3. install unlocked bootloader: it seems that your D415 comes with unlocked bootloader out of the box (also check this thread)
4. custom recovery: flash this file with flashify or any other flashing apps. make sure you click on "recovery" within app (also check this thread)
5.installing xposed: check this thread, flash zip withing twrp (click install then check the file, after flashing wipe dalvik cache and cache), please note the next reboot will take more time (optimizing apps). then install the apk and then the modules ( for your problem with storage, install xinternalsd, you have lots of modules to choose from, but make sure they are updated for lollipop). after installing modules, enable them in xposed app then reboot.
6. install link2sd if you didn't, check this guide to make 2nd partition. you may consider buying the plus for linking data and auto clear cache.
That's all! if you want to further clear internal storage, go to settings-storage- click on cache then clear it (this is basically what cleaning apps like clean master do). also, check within the same menu the miscellaneous files and erase some of them if you don't need them.
P.S: check xinternalsd settings, you could choose to enable it for all apps, or the apps you want. also, make sure you check "full access to external sd"
If i helped you, consider clicking on "thanks" button

Following your steps, since I was already rooted with KingRoot, I went ahead and downloaded Flashify, and flashed the TeamWin Recovery. My LG L90 booted up to the Teamwin Recovery, everything is funcitonal and smooth. I from there installed the .ZIP file with the folder name "xposed-v70-sdk21-arm.zip". Though, when I click on Reboot, and than select Recovery, I than go to a image of the Android logo opened up with the text in the bottom saying "No Command".
Any idea here? Did I just delete my Android OS, and need to install a ROM?

Just want to update, I flashed CM12.1 on my phone, as I needed my phone to be functional enough to answer calls and text messages, I downloaded the ROM from here: http://quarx.cm-for.us/device-w7.html
I flashed it via the TWRP and flashed it as an image, it is currently booting up and displaying the setup settings right now. Not sure if I messed up in the previous steps for deleting my Android OS (I was running Stock).
I am not sure if I should go back to Stock at this point, but I just want my phone functional, fast, and lag-free and have no issues, as it is my daily driver.
Also - The root method I used, it is a good method, correct?

OK. So after much tinkering, I managed to install LG L90 Stock Lollipop ROM! I also flashed SuperSU, and it is now rooted! I was able to move all of my apps via Link2SD, and I now have free internal space! It took literally over 12 hours of tinkering (sometimes just leaving my phone as is), but I managed to get it resolved before midnight.
Going to install Xposed now, but just in curiosity, what kind of stuff do you recommend for me to check out via Xposed, or modules and stuff to select/install?

About the no command error, i haven't heard about this, but to reboot, you need to select reboot then "system" from recovery. Anyway,if you fixed this, i gave you some good examples of modules in the last post, you could also explore the whole list of modules to see what's good for you.
Hello All,
So I originally had 3GB set aside for the ext4 partition, but that has now become full, and I have quite a few apps that now have to be moved over... is there proper way to make the partition bigger, without having to format the SD Card?
Also, I have a 32GB SD Card, is it at all possible to make a 64GB SD Card useful with this phone? I figure I could buy a 64GB SD Card (they are so cheap now), and instead allocate 10GB towards that ext4 partition.

I am sorry but as far as I know lg l90 (405 for mine) goes as far as 32 GB. I have allocated 4 GB and I am far from reaching how could you get it full how many apps do you have ?
Have a wonderful day !
Sorry for the late response, I do have at least 35+ apps (I am an app developer and run multiple apps on my phone). I especially use apps like HERE Maps and the full Microsoft Office suite frequently which take up a good chunk of the storage.
Is the 32GB SD Card limit a software limit, or hardware limit? Can I somehow override this rule? I really love this phone, it fits my needs, but this storage is really bothering me, as a lot of my apps are pending major updates....
