Triangle Away - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does Triangle Away work on SIII mini for reset flash counter to NO?

only custom ROM`s
No that`s if you only Flash custom ROM`s or kernels. You don`t need it if you only use Samsung official firmware`s. Hope that help`s.

I wanted to know if someone has tried it. Could it brick the phone?

The counter stay`s 0 for Official firmware, but will +1 with custom ROM`s or Kernels.

Triangle away not working for the momnet.
Also my jig doesn't work

Since Triangle Away is useful only after flashing custom ROMs or kernels and there aren't any for our device yet, I don't know how we could even test this now.
Even so, in my opinion, it won't support our phone. It's pretty clear that the S3 Mini won't have a huge user base, so there won't be any pressure to make it work. This, combined with the fact that chainfire won't release any new updates for Triangle Away means that we'll have to look for other methods.
If you want to learn more about it, check chainfire's blog post here.

A little piece of relevant info - like others suggested your bin counter wont increase if you flash custom roms (w/o kernels) . The counter rises only when you flash custom kernels via odin

Can I install a Custom Kernel on an unrooted Note?

Hi guys,
I wonder if this is possible.. and forgive me if this has been asked before... but
can I install a custom kernel on my Note?
The Kernel version is DXLC2 and its not yet rooted.. Can I install, say Franco's kernel, or SpeedMod thru Recovery Mode ? (copying the zip kernel in the internal SD of my phone)
Would that be possible w/o root?
TIA
No. You should be rooted..................
Maybe you can try first and let us know the result. Like myth-buster, you know..
No, you cannot..
Not "you should be rooted", or "try it". You must be rooted. period.
In the first instance i suggest you spend some time reading threads about Android and rooting and flashing.
ok thanks.. much appreciated
No u cannot.....
Xperian using xda app
Well.. that answers it.. I appreciate all your answers guys... I thought I could just leave my warranty intact while flashing on a custom kernel.. but I guess, that's not the case then.. I really need to root my Note and then flash custom kernel away...
Guess you can't have the best of both worlds...
anyway.. again..thanks to all.....
I would say you can do that. I tried it before with my unrooted LA1. The problem is with unrooted phone you can't flash custom kernel with CWM or Mobile Odin because these require root. The only option you have is PC Odin. It WILL work, but it will invoke yellow triangle and increase custom binary counter.
You have to be rooted. Period !!
Also :-
Read the Stickies in the Development section and follow the methods there to the dot and you can save yourself from the yellow triangle and increasing the binary counter. And later anytime can restore it back to stock just in case the situation arises of sending you phone to samsung !!
Cheers!
Hit thanks if it helped!

Dont worry, you can use triangle away ( download from market or forum) to remove this yellow triangle or reset binary count to zero.
But to be safe please flash cf-root custom kernel before proceed further. Im not really sure wiith speedmod kernel able to use on triangle away apk or not.
To be safe, please give full detail which speedmod kernel you flashed? gb or ics? you now stick with what rom.
Its an indicator that you've flashed a custom kernel or firmware to the phone .
There are some links on how to remove it given in the galaxy note wiki in the guides / how to section at the bottom of the page linked below

Hi,
I am currently using ICS stock rom LP9 (singapore) and I got the yellow triangle after flashing to speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-source-k3-3-for-developers.zip
I am able to remove the yellow triangle away after re-flashing to my stock rom but the binary count is 1
@Speedo,
Hi so that that mean its okie for me to have that yellow triangle when I am using [KERNEL] SpeedMod N7000 ICS [K3-3 TEST CWM CIFS ROOT / NO-ROOT] ?

I see, ok go chainfire rooted kernel section and download ics custom kernel which match with your LP9 firmware. Then flash it thru pc odin. ( yellow triangle will appear again and binary count increase to 2 ).
Download the "triangle Away" apk and install on your handset. Then, launcher the apk and make sure your model is N-7000 and proceed accordingly.
To be safe, please read all the instruction given at the OP.
Good luck.

Yup, is ok with the yellow triangle stay at your handset and binary count not zero as well. It totally doesn't affect the operation of your handset in terms of software and hardware.
But those 2 things will void your warranty. Is better reset the binary count to zero before anything happen.
@Hi Lee,
I tried CF-Root last night and end up causing my wifi to be down hence I do not dare to try it again. I just tried the Angelom 1.2 brick kernel hoping that it will reset my counter to 0 but end up now the yellow triangle is back.

Hi, are you new with flashing? If you did please read or ask before do anything especially play with the dangerous ics kernel.
ok make easy. Just follow the step im told you before. Our first priority is to remove the yellow triangle and reset the binary count. Dont thinking about the wifi drop issue.

After successful remove those 2 things and now we are talking about the revert back to speedmod k3-3 kernel by using mobile odin.
Hi Lee,
I am not really that new to flashing been do that to my old samsung galaxy s and I just bought this galaxy note 3 days ago. I have been reading up alot before doing the flashing. Apparently I am not the only experiencing the lost of wifi connection after flashing to CF-Root. Hmm I am quite fine with the yellow triangle (since its an indicator that I am using a custom kernel which I am) as long my phone can function normally because I will really like to try out speedmod kernel as its reviews has really been good in term of speed and saving battery life.
The triangle away apk will only work with CF Root? I read what chainfire post and its quite scary THIS IS A DANGEROUS OPERATION AND COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Your prediction was right. Speedmod kernel is the most stable and battery friendly kernel at the moment.
But to be safe just follow what the op stated in cf-root forum if you wish to remove those 2 things. Otherwise just enjoy the performance of the speedmod kernel and forgot about the binary count.
Hi Lee,
Thanks for your advice. Greatly appreciate it
I download the TriangleAwayv1.51.apk as a backup and for now
I think I will just enjoy the custom kernel for treat the yellow triangle invisible
till I want to trade in my phone again in about most probably 1-2 years time.
Can I check if it is a must to flash to CF-Root Kernel first before using triangleaway? Reason for me now not to use it now is mainly because there will be no point if after I use this application to remove it and then it comes back to me after I flash back to speedmod kernel again ~~ Kind of doing a repeat.

Ok Im try to make it simple. After remove those 2 things, you dont necessary to use pc odin to flash speedmod kernel again. You can flash speedmod kernel in cwm or mobile odin. Those cwm and mobile odin wont give you yellow triangle and binary counter getting increase.
1. Download mobile odin and install it.
2. extract speedmod kernel to Z-image.
3. Lauch mobile odin, under kernel section and choose the z-Image file.
4. Press flash button.
5. Done. wait for reboot.
Going on bed now. If you need anything, i will come back to you by tomorrow. Have a nice day.

Its ok, in that it won't affect the performance of the phone. HOWEVER Samsung use it for warrenty information. So if you need to return your phone within warranty for repair, if you have the triangle present or flash counter raised, then your warranty may be void.
Hence the advantage of using the triangle away method
Thanks Lee and Speedo.
You 2 have been a great help in easing my worries and that I can comfortably finish and win a LOL game
I will do that the first thing when I woke up in the morning.
Flash to CF-ROOT
Install TriangleAway apk
Remove the 2 nuisance away
Flashing to speedmod kernel again
Hope to let u guys know the good news later in the day.
Hi Lee and Speedo,
Thanks for your time and advice, the 2 nuisances are finally gone after flashing to CF-Root and use Triangleaway.apk. I am now using speedmod kernel and will be using only mobile odin and CWM in future to prevent the same thing from happening again.

[Q] question about updating to ics

hi all, it s my first thread
i have a new samsung galaxy note never rooted, never updated, on gingerbread 2.3.5.
I want to know if i must root my device before doing this to update to ICS .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If you want stock ICS you can just flash the required files using ODIN, If you want a custom ICS ROM then you will either have to flash a safe kernel and cwm (some kernels have cwm built in) then update that way, You may also have to flash ICS through ODIN, then a kernel, then a rom. read the requirements in the OP
If you let me know which ROM you want i can try help you through the process.

ThereĀ“s no need to root your phone in order to update, but if you flash it thru PC Odin you will get the yellow triangle and will raise the binary counter. Besides, with the hardbrick bug around maybe is not the best idea to update now. You should hold on a bit until Samsung releases the fix for the bug....
thanks
i want to install stock ics rom, so i do like in the guide without rooting my note on gingerbread (before updating) ?
I upgraded to stock ICS by just flashing it via ODIN, Dont worry about the binary count or yellow triangle if you get it, It can be removed. I have it but wont remove it till i need to send it back.
But as glevitan said, Its best to stay on GB if you feel anxious about upgrading, There isnt a huge difference between the 2 anyway.
If you dont care and you are a dare devil who laughs in the face of danger, Just be sure to read read read all the guides.
If in doubt..............ASK !

[Q] Really quick question about flashing ROMS and warranty

Hey guys;
very quick intro:
Ive had an X10 and GalaxyS and I have plenty of experience in rooting and flashing.
I got my Note through Crazy Johns, which is an Aussie operator. We are yet to get ICS and I imagine it will be a long time before we do.
My plan is to flash a rootable rom, root, CWM, flash, then upgrade to some non stock ICS distro. If I ever have an issue I cant fix myself, I will reflash the software back to some stock.
My problem is, I cant find my stock rom to download. They are all a little bit different. In XDA's experience, has the average mobile repairman ever checked? If I send it away, are they likely to void warranty because it isnt the original stock ROM? Is there a way I can backup my stock rom?
Also, will flashing to a stock GB rom remove CWM and the root? I had a bad experience with my X10 and they wouldnt repair it because I had loaded 2.1 before it came out in Aus.
Sorry that grew into a long post, but this is the only thing stopping me from rooting RIGHT NOW, haha.
Thanks XDA'ers.

Go to www.sammobile.com and download any rom you want. If you flash stock rom to your note your root and CMW will be removed.

Pick the rom with letter K at the end of the line. K means kies its official rom it will not produced yellow triangle if you flash it. Use mobileodin from the google market for easy installation.
Would you recommend mobile odin over CWM or regular odin?
VincentRC said:

I recommend mobileodin because you can flash anything from a custom kernel to non official rom and will not produced a yellow triangle. Mobile odin is for tar files and CWM is for zip files.
You can do all things in the comport of your phone. You dont need a computer to do it.
So, I guess if I flash custom firmware through CWM it will add to the triangle, then I triangleaway, then I flash back to stock with mobile odin, and I will have a completely fresh virgin system, correct?
Somehow this is still easier than flashing the PSP, but its giving me flashbacks. The X10 and Galaxy S was a lot easier than this, haha

If you flash custom rom through CWM recovery it will not produce yellow triangle. If you flash cf root to get CMW by using pc odin it will certainly produce a triangle but if you use mobileodin to flash cf root of course no triangle.

[Q] (Q) Little Red Exclaimation dot

Hi there..
Sorry if this question have been asked before but it seems i can't find the actual step on how to eliminate these little red dot on my phone GT-I9305. I bought the phone while it's on 4.1.1 under XXALI5 build number.
I root it via ExynosAbuse 1.40 then i TriangleAway it to reset binary counter. Unfortunately now i have that little red dot.
May i know the right way to eliminate this.?
Thank you and sorry for my poor English.
you have to be completely stock and not rooted after applying TA.
why is it a problem anyway?

Not a big problem actually. I just looking IF there is a way where i can eliminate those red dot and still have a rooted phone.
While i was on GT-I9300..this can be done by flashing old bootloader.
I don't know that it's different with GT-I9305 where i must be completely on stock and not rooted in order to eliminate those red dot.
Anyway..thanks for clarify the situation to me.
The kernel and recovery both need to be stock; I would suggest flashing, for instance, one of the packages in the pre-rooted stock ROMs thread since you want to stay rooted, and then seeing if TriangleAway works. If you have already installed CWM or some other custom recovery, the pinned toolkit thread in the development section includes the stock recovery. As far as I know, you can't use a custom recovery and keep the flash counter at 0.

I don't mind the binary counter not zero or the phone status is modified. I just want a rooted phone without that red dot.
Thank for the link there. Looks like i need to flash full stock firmware first then root it with one of those pre-rooted stock roms.
so why do you want it? trying to understand you

Hi,
Root via ExynosAbuse not increment the flash counter. (you re not full root (if it install supersu, not install busybox..) and you can unroot in the app settings.) Just the phone status is modified. So you don't need Triangle Away
I had root my GT-I9305 when have 4.1.1 ROMs with ExynosAbuse. Then I flashed a 4.1.2 ROMs stock, and now, all my status are OK.
I'm not sure it's a good thing to triangle away a phone root by ExynosAbuse app...( I never saw this red dot on my screen )
Anyway, if this red dot is always here after a flash, you'll probably need to triangle away.
