Not only that this thread is not for Nook color, you should instead look over existing material on this subject. I had Nook color previously and there are hundreds of threads with answers for questions that you might have before opening a new one. Just a friendly suggestion.

I'm apparently and idiot. Help?

I bought my daughters Nook Colors for Christmas. They are registered on B&N and are running the 1.4.1 B&N Software. I've been trying since last night to figure out how the heck to get these things rooted and get CM7 on them.
I followed these directions (androidforums.com/nookcolor-all-things-root/327798-how-make-bootable-cwm-clockworkmod-version-3-2-0-1-recovery-sd-card.html[/url]) and cannot get it to boot to clockworkmod. No matter what I try, it just boots up to the nook software. I'm using a 2gb Sandisk card.
I'm not new to modding, I've been running CM since the G1, and I thought I knew what I was doing. Apparently I don't. I've been reading threads all over here and everywhere, and until I can get past the rooting step, I can't do anything.
What am I doing wrong? Can I wish for a Christmas miracle and maybe someone can walk me through step by step what I should do? I'm frustrated as can be.
You do not need to root the stock firmware if you are planning to run Cyanogenmod from either SD (external) or eMMC (internal).
It may help to keep in mind that you have no less than three options, each of which require different steps.
If you want to root B&N 1.4.1, read up a few pages in GMPOWER's updated ManualNooter thread in the Development forum: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400486 HINT: Load ONLY his latest ManualNooter on BN 1.4.1. Be sure to block automatic B&N OTA updates to preserve root in the future.
If you want a bootable CM install from SD, try the Size-Agnostic bootable thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
For an internal eMMC install, his thread looks good: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
Sorry, I'm at the ER and can't search right now. Editing forum posts on my NC is a bit awkward!

I do want to do the internal eMMC install, but that also requires the CWM bootable sd card. That's the step I can't seem to complete successfully.
Got it up and running!! I think I must have had a corrupted CWM bootable file or something.

[Q] Confused with SD Install of CM10 on Nook HD

:crying: My brain hurts.
I'm trying to figure out how to install CM10 onto an SD card so I can dual boot my nook HD, but each time I read the instructions I get lost in more and more threads to the extent I'm totally and utterly confused.
In the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063968 is
CM10 sdcard Installer (For CM10.1 installation additional step in the instructions should be followed)
Due to many problems/issues encountered by users with regards to adb and sdcard not working in Windows, I have combined the two files below and written a short script to automate the installation process. Just insert the sdcard to your device and it will be installed with CM10 automatically. No user intervention is needed.
Instructions
Download the compressed image file cm10-sdcard-installer.img. Posted: 12/28
Unpack and write the image to your sdcard. For more info on how to do it, see this post.
(optional) To install CM10.1 instead of CM10, replace 'CM-10-hummingbird.zip' of the SD card boot folder with any CM10.1 image file you can download here in this page (you need to rename the file exactly as above).
Insert into the device and boot (cold)/reboot (warm).
Wait for it to finish installation.
Enjoy your HD with CM10 (CM10.1)

which is simple, but does this "install" to the SD Card, or to the nook's internal? All the instructions I've read for making a dual boot say you need to install CM onto the SD card, which I understand, but how do I *know* I'm about to install to the SD card rather than overwrite the Nook?
Helllpppp!!

Two things tell you. First the CWM itself will say for SD and second, the name of the zip file says for SD.

Just bout a Nook HD from the pawn shop. Turn it on and it wants me to register. I have 2 Nook Colors. I registered them. rooted and added Cyanogenmod. Seems as I recall back that it was best to register them right away. I was just thinking, why? Why not just update it with no registration. Pros and cons please. Thank

The only advantage to registering a new nook is it starts your warranty. But since this is used from a pawn shop, it is probably registered to someone else and you can't register it anyway.

[Q] CM 10.2 flash with Windows for starters

Hello everyone!
This is indeed my first thread and i am totally new here. I ordered a new nook hd+ and read on a thread, that it runs a lot smoother with CM 10.2 on it. So i read some other Threads... some seemed out-dated and the development thread was quiet full of infos but nothing to start with. I hope, someone can help me and this thread maybe of help to others, who start from scratch.
As far as i understood, i need
* an appropriate SD-Card (want leave the original/stock ROM on it for warranty reasons) . I buyed a transcend 32 GB class 10 microSD card as i read, it is quite compatible with the Nook HD+.
* an Image i want to boot. From the development thread, i downloaded cm-10.2-20130923-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-sdcard.
* a bootable SDCard. There some systemfiles in the zip file and a ramdisk.img. I use Win32 Disk Imager, choose this ramdisk (?), write the files to the (unformatted) sdcard and copy the systems files after that.
* a optional package for the google apps (gapps). From the "flash for dummies" thread i took gapps-jb-20130813-signed which has the same file structure, so i assume, i need to copy that to sd card too.
-----------------------------
I hope, there is no flaw in this procedure so far What i missed is: What comes now? Does the Nook automatically boot from the sd card? I would assume, that it does not. I read some hints, that i should copy the "install files" (i assume all of the unzipped files) to the Nook first. Some say, you need root, some say you don't actually and yeah... this is the point where it starts to become misty :fingers-crossed:
Can someone assist me? I would say, i read most threads as far as i could but at some point i was lost. TWERP? USBHost? Set permissions manually? Superuser app? I have an idea what to do but it is no straight line anymore
Thanks in advance
You have it right except for the making a bootable SD. You need to go to verygreen's CM10.1 SD thread referenced in the post you got the cm zip from. Look for early 7.1 zip and extract it and burn that with win32diskimager.

I would not recommend side loading as your first ROM experience. just follow the guide and before you flash the rom make a back up of the device. That way when you need to revert you have a complete image ready to just load.
SO make sure you log into you B&N account and get the Google play app update(i.e. latest update, just search for updates, just to be sure) before you start. This will save you loads of time later if you need to revert.

What do you mean sideloading a ROM? You mean installing a ROM to SD? Why recommend against that? It is the safest way to go since it does not modify internal memory.
And what guide are you recommending he follow?

Thanks for the replies! I am a little bit unsure what to do but i think, i want to give SD Card a try.
I will try it according to your suggestions! Thanks alot!

Loading CM and others on to Nook.

Hello,
I have tried my best to follow the rules and dummy articles that are posted.
I downloaded the partition magic software
I downloaded the windisk32 Imager software
I have downloaded the 3 files from links for oviation and others to get CM 10 to work.
Or at least I think I did.
Once I put my sd card into my nook and try to do what the instructions say.
The Nook flash start up screen just keeps turning off and on, and on and off.
I followed and deleted everything off the sd card first, then partition it. Then I set it
to what the tutorial says I believe which was call it boot. Then choose primary fat32 I think.
Then I use windisk imager to load the boot on.
Then that is where i get in to trouble I think. Or maybe I am not even doing the previous parts right? But, I am doing it step by step and it is doing what I think it should be doing as far as the tutorial is concerned. I was using this one to show the tutorial on the PM and WD32.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YYXtGAt6GY
Anyway, I am trying to upgrade my nook OS which has only 2.2 on it. No further updates are coming as you all know I am sure.
So, can any one help me or explain to me what I am doing wrong.
I downloaded the three pieces I thought were right as far as the nook is concerned.
cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-acclaim
cm-11-20140221-NIGHTLY-acclaim
gapps-jb-20130813-signed
Those were right to put on the sd card right, Do I just drag and drop them over and then put the disk in the nook and turn it on. I did use the windisk imager to load the boot file bot the others were dragged and dropped...... I am confused on what I am doing wrong.
Please help.
I don't even need the latest and greatest. I just want one that will work with flash so I can watch my sports on my nook hd+ 2.2.2 color version 9 inch screen.
You can email me directly if you wish. If so PM me privately and I will reply or just email if you know where to find my email address.
Thanks, Karl James.
The Nook HD+ (BNTV600) is not the same as the Nook Tablet (BNTV250), using the ROM and tools intended for a different Nook can brick your Nook HD+.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42406126&postcount=7 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51043572&postcount=1 for info/pointers for flashing CM11 on the HD+.
Get the correct files

Note only that, the files for the HD+ are different than that for the HD.
If he has a Nook HD+, he needs to use "ovation" files. And, he is trying to apply multiple versions of CM-11 at the same time.
Files are downloaded
Ok Guys,
I downloaded the two links for the
cm-11-####-ovation.zip (CM11) (the CM ROM zip)
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=ovation
Google Apps (needed for Play Store)
pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.2-20140426a-signed.zip
These are the two correct files to download.
Then I extract them into a folder on my desktop. Called My Nook Files.
Just so I know where they are at?
Now I need to know if I did the right things with partition and win disk image programs.
I formatted it, then did the create partition, set to 500mb, primary instead of logical.
And set to active. Is that all I do?
Then I just drag and drop the two other folder files of the Ovation and apps over to the sd card folder right?
Then take the card and put in nook after it is power down and turn it on with card in it. Then Hold the N key while the power is coming up then it should show the CM software, right?
Am I understanding this incorrectly or correctly?
Thanks, Karl

[Q] Stock backup and SD card install questions

I have two Nook HD+s that I'm looking to get running on Cyanogenmod. For various reasons one I want to do an EMMC install and the other I want to do an SD Card install. Coming late to the party of HD+ customization I've had a hard time finding the easy to follow guides amidst the abundance of information in the sub-forums here. Could someone point me to the links I need for a Stock backup guide and an SD Card install guide?
Thanks,
- Aerlock

To install CM to emmc go to my dummies guide linked in my signature. It has directions there for also backing up stock. To install to SD, you will need to go to the specific thread in the development forum for the ROM that you want to install. There are several and each requires its own files and instructions. There is no generic guide for that.
