Updated Having Fun with Your Nexus 7 Guide with updated Cool Reader section and more - Nexus 7 General

I updated my Having Fun with your Nexus 7 guide with export info with Folder Organizer, updated configuration info on Cool Reader 3 and a few new apps:
http://www.nexus7nexus10.com/forum/...our-nexus-7-tablet-basic-step-step-setup.html
The guide is already too large to post on XDA. I wrote to a moderator but got no response. I would like to see it as a sticky but will need hep from an admin to make this happen.
Others have suggested that I expand the guide but again it is already to large to post without a mod's help.
Best,
Tom

Couldn't just bump your existing thread eh?

A badly written guide with little useful information. You recommended apps are by no way best in their respective classes. Recommending Opera nowadays is the most bizzare thing I've seen in a while.

Keep all Tutorials up as stickes.

Please put up stickies for all tutorials. then we wont have duplicate treads and i think it will be easier for everyone.

You wouldn't have to duplicate threads if you search.
I think it will be a great idea if we can put SOME topics as stickies, but not too much.
I also would be very pleased if we can have a moderator that would be real "active" on the forum, in other words, that deletes topics from one-time-posters with questions that are asked about 1000 times. That will keep the forum(s) a bit cleaner and better to search.
If I search for TomTom or Rom Upgrade now, I will get a lot of search results, but the pain in the ass is that about half of the results are questions of one-time-posters/noobs that didnt use the search function.
Also I get a lot of PM's with noob questions from people that have 0 posts and are not active on the forum(s), but I think a lot of members here have the same problem. I am always willing to help, but for now I stopped replying to simple questions from people that have 0 posts, just because I know that all the answers are in the forum, so you will come to the conclusion that they didn't use the search function at all.
And no....I dont wanna volunteer as mod
Molski
The simple answer would be use (and update) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard When I had a universal it was always my first port of call at the begining
Problem with this is that someone will write a post on how to open a can of coke. What qualifies this as a tutorial? If someone pms me asking for it to be made sticky, I'll see how the thread grows, and if the community are finding it truly helpful, I'll make it sticky. However, then we'll end up being overwhelmed with 3pages of stickies even before you get to current posts.
My idea, which I proposed to the mods, is first to detail your post titles, eg
[new release] VJNubilous - makes you last all night
[tutorial] Stamina - Desensitising techniques pros/cons

This makes them stand out and easier to search for.
However, a longer term solution is to have a dedicated Tutorial forum etc.
But again, we have the wiki, and that's a better place for that kind of stuff. The onus is on the original poster to realise his post is useful and put it on the wiki - but anyone can edit the wiki, so everyone should

i posted 3 times on this forum noone ever answered - even though i know that these topics were discussed. Of course everyone here YELLS - YOU ARE A NEWBIE go search the forum - the search brings up 1000s of post that would take 10 days to read and find what anyone needs....
This forum will be much better with stickies - way better.
For example right now i am sitting and trying to find a way to install properly Windows Lite on my phone and i know that posting for help will be useless.... so i emailed directly to the creator of those skins.
But if there was a sticky - that would help a lot....
Just my 2 cents

I am a newbie here, I appreciate the work everyone has done here too. I am also a bit knowlegeble on other stuffs and i am also a memebr of other forums. from experience. it would help alot if there is a tutorial section. example, xbox-scene.com there is a dedicated place for tutorials and they really broke all aspects of everything that has to be with the xbox. Please can the moderators and human gods that make this site tick please have mercy on us. Im sure that there are also alot of people here, that will help to get this thing done in no time.
Thanks again for every thing.

Like Vijay said, instead of stickies we have the Wiki, thats much much better then a sticky will ever be.
p.s. I replied to one of your topics (ringtone help), the reason that you dont have reply's on your other topics is maybe because nobody knows the answer?
The WiKi pages are THE place for Tutorials.
And it saves us mods a lot of work (I have a life next to this too).

Thanks, already started getting to work.
agree with it over all
but i have done searches and you get 20k worth or look at but usally half have nothing to do with what your looking for since someone puts off topic in a thread and you end up drilling down for nothing on a lot of it
and the wiki is there but not well maintained at the moment has some info but not a lot >>> but work in progress take time lord i know i work my reg job 16 + hrs a day
but a sugjestion of a more detailed thread break down
would be nice

IMPORTANT: Major Wiki update

Guys and gals, I've just finished migrating my latest articles & Bibles from the last ~5 months into the Wiki (so far, I haven't had the time to do this).
VERY important: I use my own scripts to convert my HTML-based articles to PhpWiki (also using other, Web-based PhpWiki converters). Unfortunately, there're some constructs that I just can't convert (and don't have the time to manually adjust ALL the articles - remember, there are hundreds of them); for example, consequent rows separated by only one line feed. (With them, the rows aren't rendered separated.)
If you encounter cases like this and would like to read the original instead,
1. you can find almost all these articles in the General forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=256 ) here; you can easily find them by just entering a, say, sentence to search for from my Wiki article, only searching for my nick and the General forum in the Advanced Search engine ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php )
2. at the bottom of many of my articles, there's a "Cross-posted to" section. Just click the XDA-Devs link in there.
3. alternatively, you can also search my blog ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ )
I do hope you'll find my articles useful
I'm going to sticky this for a while if you don't mind.
Thank you
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to do this. may people will benfit from this.
Yes you always have great articles, I think while I'm bored at work I might just head to the wiki to read over some of them.

The wiki contains lists and lists of good software and will direct you to more.
Also here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2276141
do u have more ? ...
um...you shouldn't post a redundant thread like this its going to be closed soon probably because there isn't any "help" needed also did you use the search option that kind've helps
If there's a specific type of application that you're looking for, I'm sure you could post a specific request and get a lot of help. Just a generic "lol im new wuts good" post doesn't really ask for too much, so don't expect too much back.
wow
sry my bad
For generic software recommendations, I threw together a quick blog entry a few weeks back detailing a few of the apps that I use most. You can view it at http://blogsplice.blogspot.com/2008/12/couple-of-useful-windows-mobile-apps.html
For the short version, here's a list of my most commonly-used apps:
Opera Mobile 9.5 build 15233 + Flash Lite 3.1 (from here)
Beejive IM
Google Maps Mobile
Total Commander
WMWifiRouter
Hope this helps you get started
=) thanks!..
Consider this a warning lorenat04. PLease read the Announcement thread at the top of the Thread list.
Follow the rules or you could be banned.
Anyway welcome to XDA.

[SUGGESTION] For the Hero Themes and Applications Thread

Can someone, who is able to (a mod or something) search though the must have apps on your Hero sticky thread db for all the suggested apps with links/.apk files and stick them on the first post so that we don't have to wade through countless pages in order to find those little gems of apps distributed all over the place.
That way before we suggest another app we can check if it is there already in the summarised first post.
Someone must be able to that.
Please. Please. Please. It would be sooo useful
agreed good idea
it will be great

[Q] How skin sense digital clock?

Hi,
Lookin for a digital clock skin, i don't like the look of that double flip clock in Sense, i found lots of analogic clocks. But i find few digital clocks.
I decides to make one for my own, but i culd find how make one.
Could someone explain?
If relevant i'm using CHT 1.8.5
MOD EDIT: The answer to this has been moved to it's own thread as a tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781773
Thanks
Fine tutorial, kingpin, it should be marked as sticky - for the thousands of requests..
In my experience for replacing the graphics I use your faster method: after using the export-function in cfc_gui the pngs can be handled with a graphic-software (I use Paint.Net, professionals take PS...) and after that direct by using the import-function (as you described) transformed to manila-files... (than the user can choose compressing or not).
Btw, I'm waiting for your new clocks and graphics in addition to the wonderful glass-shelf..., excellent work!

Thanks and yes a sticky may be helpful I just joined XDA in June and I believe it took me about a month to find the info I needed to skin manila
UltraHQ conversion is painful though typing cfc -pc 50x gets tedious, I haven't found a batch conversion method for it yet.
Glad you liked my glass shelf theme I'm about 1/2 way through on new one, but sadly I don't have as much time anymore so may not be released until the end of this week.
Thanks kingpin, this is what i need.
I search a lot but i couldn't find it.
Thanks again

Thanks for the heads-up Mike, and thanks for the work kingpin! I've split that post off as its own thread and stickied it. You'll find it here now (and I've edited the OP above too): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781773
