Seems a little fishy. Why not return the unit/dispute with ebay/paypal?

Have you tried sending it to Nook? You could root and install a custom ROM

If it was a store demo unit, you will not be able to register it. They have that serial number tucked away. It was probably stolen originally from a store. If you want to use it, you have to skip registration. Look at my HD+ tips thread linked in my signature. I have an item there about skipping OOBE, which means skipping registration.
And there is no custom ROM available for the HD yet. HD+, yes, HD, no.

thank you for your help.I've rooted the devices and skiped OOBE. And I contact the B&N Customer Service,he said he will try to resolve the registration difficulties .But no answer...

I am in the same shoes, I call B&N, they told me that they can't do anything about it unless the previous owner give them a call to unregistered it. However, in my case, lol, I did the hard reset. and did not have it rooted. Gosh, Help? or suggestions? anything? Thanks, and btw, I am a brand new member to this forum.

You guys should meet back up and you should flash a sense rom for them.
Only way for them to activate.
that's what i was afraid of. i sold the phone on ebay so it isn't someone local that i can meet with. so would you say that the easiest route would be for me to create a micro sd for them to boot from (someone else rooted my phone for me, but i rooted my nook color this way)? do you know offhand where i could find instructions to do this? i searched the android development forum but didn't see anything that dealt with going back to stock.

I found this guide and found it very helpful it has a ton of stuff.. for your issue see Factory Reset not too far down.
Hero Root Guide
Just use the ruu in zip format is does it all for you in one file. Just send him the zip, tell him to put it on his sd, power the phone off, plug in the charger, hold down volume and power and 15 min later wham pure stock. No root no recovery. Just like out of the box
Yea it's me again. The one with the -Modified-Hero

Don't Quote me but, I'm Thinking the new owner should be able to Activate it by phone! At least I was able to with Mine! If not try just installing a 2.1 sense Rom and Delete the Superuser App, From my Experiences Chances are they Won't even Check for Root!!
Good Luck!

Wither way they need to reprogram the phone for his phone number, and the only way to do that is use the hash codes which only work on sense roms. Otherwise, if you know your way around qpst, you can do it from stock.

I has a Nook Tablet!

Stopped by the local REI for gear. On the way home, stopped by B&N to see when they'd have a Nook Tablet for me to play with. Manager states they have one in back....I have a geekgasm (tm), she says: "This was ordered by someone and then cancelled...so *technically* its already sold. Long story short: I just brought it home!

Ok, out for beer and then back for play.
So is the charger the same for it and the nook color?

Appears to be identical.
Front bezel is rubberized like the back - much better grip.
Speaker slightly louder, microphone hole nearly invisible.
Screen clearly better.
thats cool!
I didn't know that they were available yet.
I just got a nook color for my wife and I am in the process of reading lots before I root it.
It is going to be an xmas gift for her.
I figured I would take a little bit of time to work out all of the kinks before I give it to her...lol
What kernel version does it have?
She'll love it: my Nook Color has been awesome and its kinda sad to retire it.

Can't find any place in the stock ROM that tells me, do you know where to find it?
Will it boot from a bootable SD card?? (..at least to CWR to verify hacking will be as easy as the original)

If you go to settings there is a line to touch that displays the software info, at least that is how it works in the NC. I don't have a stock one with me to verify.

Grats on getting your NT!
CWM
try this link to create a bootable CWM sd card....worse case scenario nothing happens.

Also it be pretty cool if you found the kernel version. Could possibly help us nook color owners expedite the ICS/HC update process.

I can't really answer that, as I've never used a Kindle Fire. I did consider both before purchasing, but the Fire lost my interest when I found out it had no microSD slot. Additionally, I *really* love my rooted NC, and the NT just adds more speedy goodness to a platform I already love.
To all that asked about SD card booting - I tried the CWM sd from my NC and the tablet completely ignored it. As it has been pointed out that CWM is built for each device, this result is unsurprising.
NOTE: despite having 16gb of on-board storage, stock ROM only allows you access to 1gb. While this will, without question, change once rooted and ROM'd, it is somewhat disappointing.
Just an update: installing other launchers and sideloading/usb debugging achieved. No luck yet with Gingerbreak or Super One-click.
So far, according to this thread from the NT forum, the Tablet appears to require a signed bootloader

Google Play jerking me around

So I sent google play an email stating that an app I already paid for (3g watchdog) is showing up as unpaid, gave them my order receipt and they asked for more information so I sent them this.
Allright, I flash New roms to my phone all the time. Normally I just re download all my apps as I switch between gingerbread and ice cream sandwich so I can't use titanium backup. So I flashed a new Rom (ics os) and the app appeared as bought, I clicked download and the market updated to play store during that and the download froze. So I force stopped it and brought up play store again. This time the app appeared as purchase 2.99 . I thought it was the os I was using so I formatted and flashed a gb Rom. Went to download again this time it sai purchase so I went about agreeing to purchase it again to see if it was just a glitch or something. It didn't work it went about charging me but my cc is maxed so I didn't get charged. I contacted the 3g watchdog dev and he said he could refund me just to let him know as he said he found a valid payment record. I can't get refunded because my cc is maxed and I wouldn't be able to purchase it again as payment would not be available which is why I need your help.
The following response came after a week of me sending emails requesting a response.
Thanks for following up and for providing those additional details about the issue you're experiencing on Google Play. In reviewing the information you've provided as well as our records, it appears that this issue is related to the fact that you're not using the authorized ROM that came with your device.
Using any ROM besides the factory default may cause the device to have limited functionality and may cause unexpected behavior with the Google Play Store app. Unfortunately, we won't be able to troubleshoot this issue further because the issue appears to be unique to the way your device is configured, and we can't recreate the issue with our devices here.
To resolve the issue, I recommend using the authorized Android operating system provided by your manufacturer that can be obtained from their website or your carrier.
Regards,
Matt The Google Play Support Team
Seems like google play is jerking me around an awful lot for 2.99. What shall I say to these jerkoffs?

Why don't you try flashing the stock rom and see if the payment reflects?
if not you can tell them that it isn't working on the 'authorized ROM' as well, no?
---------- Post added at 12:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 PM ----------
Or you probably could simply ask your card company to pull back the payment?
Its was purchased on a CC a year ago and the card is now beyond maxed, the dev at 3g watchdog said they could reverse payment so I could re purchase the app but with it being maxed its redundant.
Guess I'll flash a stock rooted rom... feels Luke it won't make a difference.

Well it shouldn't matter, if u use custom or an original Rom imo.
The purchase is bounded to your gmail account. But try a stock Rom and see if it makes a diffrenents. And let us know

See if the payment issue happens on stock Rom. If not, back up the app and restore in your Rom of choice. If it does, according to the email from Google, they should be able to help.
Kudos to the Dev though, for offering a refund.

The title says "Bricked Kindle Fire HD...", but you have failed to explain exactly how your Kindle Fire HD is bricked.
Does your device power on? Are you getting anything on the display?
help for bricked device
1- make sure you own a factory cable
2- setup window or Linux with latest java sdk and ADB
READ ALL ALL related posts and download files needed. Must important,, only try one method of De-bricking.
Good luck.
The Kindle Fire will power on and show the logo.....fizz out and show a white fuzzy line down the screen
And I did buy a factory cable in anticipation of this. I tried the recovery method as stated above. Didnt work. The boot cycle kept restarting by itsself

First off, the Kindle Fire HD 7" is not ready for the full android treatment... so perhaps you should put that aside for now (like the rest of us).

Good luck!

You know......I am such an idiot. Even though I was careful to read the warnings I missed the part of it being for Kindle Fire 2 not Kindle Fire HD. Either way.....ended up exchanging the device and starting over. Already got root on the device. Disabled OTA amazon updates, Disabled Ad services from Amazon, and just finished installing Play store. Root i accomplished through the win64 file i downloaded as a manual root function. The rest I used the KFFAide program. My next question is if that same program is reliable enough to install the 2nd bootloader? And is it even worth it installing a different ROM? Please advise.

It's hard to say. Could be a month, could be 6 months. It depends on the amount of free time the wonderful developers working on it devote to building a kernel. As far as I am concerned, they can take as long as they like. After all, they provide for free.
The second bootloader and twrp is a good idea if you want a recovery. It is recommended by this user.

I still see "Amazon" on boot, did I completely "FlashFire" my 5th gen?
The tutorial here seems to use TWRP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dwguHoxTvo&feature=youtu.be
I'm on CM12.1 now, but I'm not sure if I should try to further push Amazon off of my tablet, as it still gives me "Amazon" on boot. My other concern here is privacy. Could Amazon do some telemetry through CM12.1 somehow since the bootloader still seems locked?

If you are concerned about Amazon privacy issues then you should avoid installing any of the Amazon apps on CM12.1:

Amazon logo is the bootloader which can't be replaced on a locked device (nor would you want to).
the amazon logo is a low-level animation contained in the bootloader. it can be replaced, but it's very tricky and not something I'd recommend. No Amazon isn't running telemetry or anything else on you at that level; but yeah, if you're privacy concerned don't reinstall kindle reader, amazon app store, or other apps like that. I do have them and I don't have any problem. Amazon has not sent me any nasty letters or remotely bricked me for rooting my fire. All it does is void the warranty.

Unless recently changed Amazon's EULA does not address rooting. Reps typically offer one time, no questions asked courtesy exchanges on rooted devices gone bad. The latter may simply represent a customer service initiative vs formal policy.
