Raspberry Pi website redesign - Raspberry Pi Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm loving the new website design. Sure beats that horrible Wordpress theme .
What do you think?

I like the new look as well, cleaner and easier to navigate. Not to mention as you said the WordPress layout was pretty bland.

I agree too.
The previous design looked like something that had been put together very quickly from a "standard" wordpress.
The new design is much clearer in my opinion

lol~~ lmao~~
LOL! talk about an instant beatmove!
in all seriousness. if you have a htc desire or a google nexus one, have a look for the rom called miui if your looking for some heavy customization. if your looking for just an app, there is an app called app4desk which is worth a look at
There's an Iphone theme but you have to pay like 1000 to get it because of the Apple Membership Card Fee.
So yeah.
Android Fanboys are so annoying and immature. He asked a simple question and the peanut gallery just had to chime in.

While I agree especially considering there IS an iPhone theme. Apple fanboys (well any "fanboy") are no better and IMO more often worse. There is a fanboy for just about everything. The problem is they usually are wrong and regurgitate bad info
Personally I feel apple gets a reputation for innovation by simply taking something that already exists polishing it up to look nice and locking it down so it runs smooth. Then they sucker everyone in with the next version that has features the original should have had and other manufacturers already have.
At least when it comes to the mobile devices
Sure they are good and often better than others. But far from the best and not innovative

Or just use desktop visualizer and hit up deviantart or search here for iphone icons.lol
everybody has diff tastes. and 9 times outta 10 people who use iphones, want say htc themes. or vice versa. No diff than windows mobile people wanting android like themes. etc.. A question is a question why not try to answer and be nice instead of throwing out harse remarks.lol
Blasphemy.

lol. Try MIUI its great but you might have to worry with your battery life with that Rom lol
Oh, if you have a HTC Desire you could try this one www.miui-au.com which uses a different kernel, and to me, it has a better battery life it might work on N1 too

It's extremely annoying when some people say this. Just buying an iPhone may not be an option if you're not in a position to do so (I wanted an iPhone but could not use AT&T due to contractual obligations with Sprint). Answer the question or move on if you can't. Some people enjoy Apple's aesthetics--deal with it!
That said--I'll reiterate what others have posted--try the MIUI rom, it's reminiscent of an iPhone's interface. Another thing you can do is to download iPhone screen shots and get some widgets that match the clock and some of the icons and wallpaper, it's going to take some work though. The iPhone's icons are out there, I've seen them but never downloaded them. Use something like Launcher PRO or ADW to replace icons. Download the iPhone sounds from the market--I have those.
The wonderful thing about Android is it's dynamic and flexible interface capabilities. You can essentially make your phone look like any cell phone interface you like, WinMO, iOS, Blackberry, etc... Ejoy this device!

[Q] Font suggestions

I had an idea for a screen setup (hooray for random moments of inspiration) but I don't want to do it with the default font on my phone. The more I look at it the more I realize it's pretty ugly. <.< So what would you guys suggest in terms of nice looking fonts? I would prefer free ones, but paid ones are ok as long as the prices aren't outrageous (no thousand dollar fonts, I'm sure their out there somewhere).
In terms of preferences;
Clean and minimal would be optimal, something that looks professional but not so flashy that your eye gets drawn away from everything else. Outside of that I don't have any other real "requirements".
I'm looking forward to getting some suggestions, hopefully I'll find something to spruce up my somewhat "bland" phone.
Asking what kind of font you should use without any other information is like asking what kind of car you should buy. There are literally thousands and thousands of fonts. What feel do you want your theme to have? Want it cartoony? Serious? Clean? Minimal? Serif or sans-serif? Tell us more!
All that said, I use Helvetica Nieu, that works for me. Clean, simple, awesome.

Hm, I probably should have added that, it didn't really occur to me at the time though.

Thanks for the suggestion, but assuming this is what you meant, it doesn't really fit my tastes.
I use 'champagne & lumousines'. A weird name but I quite like the font

Hm, that looks pretty good. I'll have to give it a whirl, thanks for the suggestion.
Still open to other suggestions of course, the more the better.

Ubermusic Skin - One

The project is officialy DEAD due to the lack of interest. If you would like to continue the source is on github.
A few people asked for it so download is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7692676/android/One.apk
Based on work by Thiago Silva
Pretty slick looking. A little too iPhonish for my personal taste but it looks really sharp. Like the color scheme too. Excellent work.
Love that, please keep on it
HTC Desire Z - Tapatalk
Beautiful man. I used UberMusic and would defiantly love to use this theme.
cant wait id love to use that theme
Nice Nice Nice!
Can't wait for release!
Great theme!!!
WOWWWWWW!!! That is simply beautiful. If you need help testing it on an MDPI screen, I would be more than happy to do it. This blows out any theme I've seen for UberMusic.
I don't know hor far you're going with apktool, recompiling and this hacky stuff, but if you're good with this, you might find powerAmp a better app to start with.
Basically it has all or almost all features you need, so it would be a matter of rewireing the actuall app to the new ui you want to implement with a skin.
More complicated than making an ubermusic skin, but also more rewarding.
Thing is, nobody really likes reading bytecode, I guess.
Try with the UM skin first. I'll gladly try it. +1 for testing volounteers.
MDPI HTC Hero GSM, btw.
Ah, and btw, you might wanna try apk manager.
thats dope good work bro
Really nice brother i hope test it soon now
Nice! can't wait to see this... I've been using the metro skin for the whole time, and had (cubed) before that. It would be great to see a lighter skin
Very nice, will be watching for its completion.
Any release date for this??? im actually kind of tired of the skins they have for this in the market..not a wide variety of choice yet.
Man That's awesome!
Good Job..

I think it looks "iPhonish" because the tabs are on the bottom. If people want it I will make one with tabs-on-top.

I had a look at poweramp: it would be really hard to implement this interface. Playerpro has all the elements in it that are needed for this look (minus the letter separator but that's not a biggie). Anyway I finally figured out what was wrong with recompiling. I used apkmanager. That was the problem because it's bundled with a horribly out of date version of apktool, I updated it and now it works. Beta is coming soon so watch this thread

It will be out in 2-3 weeks at last. It depends on the feedback from the beta that will be announced later this week.
I like it, a good skinned widget, unless it can't be themed, and I'm in anyway

Chameleon Launcher

Ran across this article today discussing a very promising launcher that will be coming to tablets. It's a kickstarter campaign atm but I'm definitely excited to give it a try when released. Hopefully by the time it's released I'll be rockin a nexus tablet on jellybean
Enjoy

looks pretty nice, I am going to bung 5 bucks their way
Nice find, 5bucks is a bit too much for me though. I spent money in other launchers but I always go back to a MIUI kind of experience.
Also nice Sergio Leone signature
I pledged. Seems like a cool project.

5 bucks is cheap compared to spb shell. Gosh I regret ever buying that launcher when it first came out.
Thanks! I enjoy my westerns...especially the Sergio Leone ones
I've pledged too. It looks pretty good. I think the main issue, as with standard launchers is the widget support.

Android Music Player theme concept

It bothers me that it's rare, if anything almost impossible to find a music player in the playstore with the holo theme being used, so i took the idea from Google's YouTube app and thought it would look nice if they'd make a music app with the same idea in mind, so i started doing a little work on the idea and since i know nothing about coding this is all i can provide...if it has been thought of before then i apologize, if not, then would be cool if a developer would take my idea and use it.
i wanna do a complete design of the entire internals but wanted opinions of you guys before i even go that far.
Purely personal taste, but the only thing I don't like is the blank CD icon above the album art. Other than that I like it. Keep up the good work!

Are you using Roboto as your font?
I also think that the search icon should be flat, and possibly implement that flat design choice into the album art/playing screen.
I also think there should be a couple more separation of elements using multiple color choices. Possibly use the holo colors.
It looks great though!
- Keep it simple
- Use one font size
- Don't make UI elements too small or too big
- Don't stretch images
- Don't use black on a dark grey background
A lot of "don't" here, and I'm sorry for that.
Personally, I would like a player that uses the Google Now design language. An evolved Holo design in a sense.

The flat look seems to be what's in. I think what's sorely needed is a dead simple, gorgeous music widget. With all the theming that's starting to pop up, i feel like that's the one gaping hole in my opinion. Whoever does that gets my money. I'm really keen on spotify's widget, I'd like to see an updated 4x2 version of that from them.
