Camera: How to focus?

A common method of manually changing the point of focus is to tap the screen in the area in which focus is desired. How can I somebody a focus point in the default camera app?
I cannot find an option to enable this function, and by default, tapping the screen takes a picture. As one cannot be expected to use manual mode to focus every picture, there must be a setting or ability I am overlooking.
Thanks for any help provided!

Have you tried the press and hold the screen? I think it locks the auto focus on the feature in the scene.
Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
Hmm, that does lock the focus on an area, but my issue is that the image--or the desired portion of an iimage-- does not properly come into focus to begin with. On previous phones, I've been able to tap an area of the screen in order to make the phone focus on that particular area.
The issue with images not coming into focus correctly especially effects the zoom camera. When using manual focus, I have no problem focusing images properly. It is quite frustrating to have to manually focus every photo I take with that lens.
Any other ideas? Have you experienced the focus issue I'm describing?
Edit: I've noticed that tap-to-focus does work as expected in video mode, but in photo mode, of course, it activates the shutter. Hopefully a future update will add a setting to disable this functionality. Until then, I may just have to rely on the--somewhat cumbersome--manual focus.
Actually, scratch that. I think the focus lock actually accomplishes what I'm looking for! I've noticed that in a addition to locking the focus on an area, if the area isn't currently focused, it will actually bring it into focus as well.
Thank you very much for the help!

Depth vs. Bokeh Mode

Can somebody explain the difference between taking a picture in the standard "Photo" or "Pro" mode with Depth turned on vs. taking a picture in Bokeh mode? Is there and advantage of one over the other. Also, does capturing Depth have any effect for editing the RAW files in Lightroom? The camera processes pictures much faster with Depth turned OFF. So what I'd like to know is if there is any point in capturing Depth for regular everyday pictures (scenery, random family pics, etc.) in Photo or Pro mode vs. using Bokeh mode when I want that background blur effect.
I am rather confused by this too. According to the manual Bokeh is if you know you will want to change the focus area after taking the shot and Depth mode is for creating "a sense of depth and perspective". I suspect the depth images contain a lot more information than the Bokeh ones so will give you the potential for more impressive results. I just took test images in both modes of the same scene and actually the Bokeh image was the larger file (11MB versus 6.9MB), but I believe the depth mode data may be heavily compressed.
I have this phone and i am verry happy with this phone.i buy the phone on 15 march
But when i start the phone the first time there was a update.after the update i start the camera but i bever Find the bokeh modus on the camera app.is this function gone after the update ? Sorry my englisch is ferry bad .
Hi, you have to go into the camera app and select Bokeh mode from the list of modes about a quarter of the way up from the bottom (left to Pro). Depth mode is different and is activated from within the camera in Pro mode from the options at the top. Its the item to the right of the "hamburger". Hope that helps!
Thank you ferry much.
I have camera app 91.9.1160.53
And i still cant find bokeh .
I found a newer version of the app and try to install it.
IT was version 91.9.1170.61
When i open the app i can see bokeh.
Butt the app crashes when i choose bokeh.
I removed the update.
Do you Nokia 9 users have the same camera app version ?
Greetings
look at the camera settings and select mode management. Maybe it is switched off there?
I have the same version as you and I see it
If the camera app crashes, you should charge the battery. It's a known bug.
Oke thanks ,gonna try IT out
This is how mode management looks like

The difference is that Bokeh Mode puts the fake bokeh into the RAW file and you cant undo it anymore, right?
The biggest difference is... Don't use Bokeh, just enable Depth and set your focus manually. Bokeh is basically just a quick point-and-shoot version that tries to identify the target. Manual depth editing allows full control over it after the picture is taken. Just use the Depth editing.

This , just use Depth, works much better.
Bokeh mode on Nokia 9 is horrendous most of the time, it blurs some parts and leaves other parts unblurred (seems like the help Google provided did NOT include machine learning blurring lol).

Smart Lens Selection

How does the "smart lens selection" feature work? Can someone tell me how to use the dual camera and for the best pics? I am new to dual camera setup.
about dual camera you have manual option in stock camera app, when you select low light (mode) that will turn your 20mpx camera, otherwise when you shoot with regular (mode ) it will shoot with 12 mpx cam .for best pics you can go to manual mode and set iso,focus.. by your decision whst is best.
About smart lens i just use typing on text what i want to highlight.

How To Guide Camera hidden settings and features

Hi Everyone,
I love the camera of my MI11U. but there are a few tunings that I REALLY HATE!!! one of them is default beautify in selfie and portrait. taking photos of black objects (tried with GCAM which took a perfect shot). and a few minor others.
Searching here and there, I found a way to turn off and on some additional settings like beautify and some other functions. this will help whoever understand all these settings (not me ), so I thought to share this simple method and see your thoughts and outcomes. ***note that there are some settings are in Chinese***.
1 . go to file manager and go to phone storage....
2 . go to DCIM/camera
3 . make a new folder with the name mentioned below....
lab_options_visible
4 .save and exit.....
5 . go to settings and force stop the miui camera app....
6 . now launch the app.....
7 . go to camera settings menu of the app.....you will see new options available in there....
8 . just turn off beautify in portrait mode....
9 . come back....change to selfie mode....tap on the blue star.....now tap on clear.....
Hope this helps everyone to take better photos.
would much appreciate if we can share the benefits of these settings in order to get best results.
Wow, this is amazing. Thx
Hi Hassanaliyeh , which version of gcam do you use?

I am using GCam Wichaya 8.1.101 V1.4
it is not perfect, original xiaomi camera is impressive with all functions and control of device way better than GCam. but GCam is better in some conditions and scenarios like taking a photo of a far black object or photos of people. with Xiaomi, far black objects will be like a void in a photo and no details at all in it, and beautify is so annoying. with GCam, both are better, but colours are less vibrant and saturated.

The reason I made this thread is to share experience and understand what exactly they do. I really do not know any other that beautify in portrait disables it for all camera modes and not only portrait.
I found the following over internet by someone tested them on Mi10 devices, and some features are not mentioned or were disabled with previous devices. hope it helps at a start.
Internal magic tools : activates internal tools to improve the quality of photos and videos.
Face detection : the mobile camera can recognize the face and frame it in a box to improve the result.
Hide face detection frame automatically : this option hides the box that appears when activating the previous option but keeps the improvements.
Beautify in Portrait mode : Activate beauty mode in all camera modes.
Turn on dual camera : turn on dual camera to enhance photos.
Turn on dual SAT camera – currently does not have a user function.
Turn on MFNR : when activated, the device takes 6 consecutive shots which when superimposed and eliminate the noise from the photo.
Turn on SR : with this option the resolution of the image is enlarged as if the sensor of the mobile were larger.
Turn on quick shot animation : activate the quick shot animation in the app.

Thanks for explaining the features.
Thanks for the tip. One of the options I really like to see is the ability to pick the metering type (full frame average, center weighted average or spot metering). Can be quite useful. Seems like center weighted is the default.

Tried on xiaomi.eu latest weekly and didn't work. There is a modded miui cam in a Telegram group. Can't give TG links since some butthurt people hate me and sharing TG links appears to be against the "rules". Just search up "Sevtinge's Mods". That cam got many more options to tweak for, especially the Leica stuff.

Question Dumb question: how do I access the wide-angle camera?

OK I can't figure out how to open the wide-angle camera and take a photo. The official Camera app doesn't have it anywhere that I can see. I'm sure it's right under my nose, but where?
Open the camera app, on top of photo mode you'll see 1X, tap on the left dot and it will go in 0.6X(Ultra wide lens), or pinch in with two fingers to change zoom, when you'll get at 0.6X zoom it will change the lens to the ultra wide one. Another way is trought pro mode, click lens on bottom right and choose UW(ultra wide)
Huh. Well I'll be damned. I never, ever would have figured that out in a million years.
On my Xiaomi 9 the wide angle lens was like a fisheye. This one is straight. Weird! OK thanks anyway, I appreciate that.
Another dumb question: how do I access the "telemacro" camera and what does it do?
In fact, is there some tutorial somewhere that walks you through all of the camera's features and how to use them? I'm looking at https://www.mi.com/global/mi-11/ and it's mentioning tons of features that I didn't even know were there. One-Click AI Cinema? Ultra Night Video? Night mode?
