Case that's flush with the screen - Galaxy Note II Accessories

Maybe what I'm asking is impossible, but I'm looking for a case that is flush with the GN2's screen and has no edges. This is a beautiful device and most cases I've seen make it ugly. (This actually goes for most phones.)
Also the edges around the screen make it harder to touch some icons.
Is there such a thing available?

Not saying that you're wrong but it's funny how different preferences we all have. I prefer cases that goes a bit on top of the screen so that the phone can be put face down on a flat surface without risk of damageing the screen.

That's exactly why most case manufacturers leave a lip on the case. It's considered a feature. That being said there is some that don't have one. I think the d3o cases sold by T-Mobile has some like that.

I think the Spigen Ultra Thin Air case will fit your needs. Not completely flush with the top surface of the screen, but pretty dang close -- just a smidgen of "lip" over the edge to keep the phone in place. I'm rocking a white case on a titanium gray N2 and it looks killer. The case doesn't add much to the thickness, adds marginal weight. The sides don't completely wrap around the entire edge of the phone, but I think it's a necessary tradeoff to minimize increased weight and size.
I can take a pic of my phone later to demonstrate, but the pics on the site show it pretty well.

Very good fit and finish on this case, plus you get a nice screen protector.

Here's on that's REALLY thin:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170931477182?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I'm not a fan of the feel though, smooth plastic, some graininess, but it's fine so its smooth to the touch.
Here's my day-to-day driver:

I posted pics of it somewhere here, but the lip isn't bad at all, raises the screen up off any surface if i place it face down, so that's a plus in my book.

Is the fit OK with this one? no creaking? How is the thickness compared to the nillkin that you posted?

i have that one, fits too perfect that it is so hard to take off, lip is minimal, may suit ur needs, scratch protection but no drop protection at all

I am using the Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal - I don't think it does curve per se, but it really does feel good in the hand and it is so thin - it is almost like not having a case at all. The case itself is soft plastic so it is mallable - and in a way it does sort of conform to the shape of the S7Edge, but I don't want to overstate it - with the metal frame around it, the frame itself will keep the soft plastic from curving in until your hand puts pressure on the case, if you know what I mean. The firmness of The steel (or aluminium) frame around the case will cause the back to be flat - but because the case is soft, when you hold it it will sort of conform with the shape of the phone. I love it - excellent case- I have always prefered Spigen Cases over the others. Really nice look and feel.
The other thing I like about it - is it makes it easier to hold the S7Edge and type or do stuff and not have the holding hand interfer by accidentally touching the edge.

does it protect the curved screen enough hows the lip ?
usually buy clear ultra hybrid or ringke fusion both give good protection and clarity for the back
i might also consider UAG they have great cases
Funnily enough, this is what I'm after too. I want a case that has a curve on the back similar to the rear of the phone itself.

I got a little bit different one than this from Spigen and it fits great, adds some grip, does not leave finger prints and is very slim. I can't really feel the curve, but it does feel great in hand. There is a slight lip at the top and the bottom of the case, so if you lay it on a flat surface the screen does not hit the surface. The side edges are exposed and it does not interfere with the use of the edge functions. I do think if the phone fell just right on the edge sides it could hit the ground where there is no protection. Hopefully they will make a tempered glass screen protector soon that will take care of this.

I don't believe it offers much protection for the screen - drop the phone screen down and it is likely to break - (depending on how high you drop it and how it lands of course) I think it does offer some decent protection for the phone - the back and the edges - I wish there was a good option for glass screen protectors but I don't think they have perfected that yet for EDGE..for now I am waiting on a pet type screen protector from Skinomi (I think that is how you spell their name).....

the one you bought looks identical to the one I bought - may be slightly different - I just realized that my case also has a "lip" at the top and bottom of the phone that keeps the screen from touching when placed on it's face. The only difference between yours and mine that I can see is the aluminum is gun metal grey on mine - looks great on the phone....
I got this but not got phone yet so can't comment.

I have 15 cases for this phone right now.
The one I have that fits your description is the Spigen Liquid Crystal.
It is clear and has the same rounded back sides as the phone.

the problem with the liquid is that it doesn't provide enough protection for the screen
so i ordered the CLEAR ULTRA HYBRID in the end
now i gotta find some good screen protector..
Bah, I've used the crystal on 3 different phones and they have survived drops and usage just fine.
But I'm not one to buy a nice phone and wrap it up like an ugly mummy either.

Both are nice cases, you will be happy with either.
I'll probably get the Samsung clear case. I like to keep the phone thin and not hide it in a case. I know it's a risk as far as protection but I'm very careful with my phone. *knocks on wood* I will get something to put protect my phone when I put it in my golf bag though. lol

Official clear back cover review, sort of

I got the official S7E clear back cover from Ebay and it's the Korean version. On the invoice that came with it it literally says and I quote "This item is premium Korean version, and it is better than regular international version". I have no idea how much merit is there to that claim but I really like the item itself. The non-transparent edge and corners somehow make this case less visually intrusive than other all-transparent cases because it kind of blends in with the design language of the naked phone.
The back has this doted texture to it which is great because with the naked phone, you can appreciate the special metallic finish of the back with all the complex ways it reflects light. But having a plastic over it interferes with that and can make the phone look cheap. But with the dot pattern you give it a new different look that works with the plastic.
The top and bottom of the phone is not covered, which is good because it doesn't interfere with any of the IO ports/ microphone or card slot. I mean there's not much of a chance for you to drop your phone exactly on the edge of a curb with the top/bottom of your phone, so it's really not worth the inconvenience of covering them up.
There are two minor problems though. First is that it's just really difficult to clean both the inside of the case and the back of the phone perfectly, there's always some fibres or dust particles in-between. The dot pattern helps but it's still annoying to see things trapped there.
The perfectly flat portion of the back feels like there's a protector film ontop and you can feel the edge around the edges. I even tried multiple times to like "peel it off" only to find out that there is no film and it's just raised up by like .2mm with sharp edges. I have no idea why.
Great pictures love the review. But these types of cases all have the sharp edge issue. But for those who are after minimalism it's worth the small annoyance. The lip also adds a bit more grip to hold onto.
I said it before, I think it's a bad case. Like it was made in a big hurry.
Smudgy back, shaky laterals, sharp inner cuts
S6 Edge+ had a much better one, not to mention the beautiful glossy cover.........
I don't like that it offers no protection at the top and bottom. It's certainly possible for a phone to land on those edges, and if you're using a case for protection I'd rather protect all the edges. My Spigen Liquid Crystal has large enough openings for the ports that plugging something in isn't an issue, but it still offers some protection.

Seems like Samsung didn't learn anything & made no improvements to this case. I had this case for my S6E and it scratched up too easily & small particles always got stuck between the back of the phone & the case. I threw mine away.

For Clear case lovers: Spigen NEO-hybrid vs ULTRA-hybrid vs Speck review

(Unfinished first post. I hit send accidentally. See post 2 for completion.)
For those of you who also want to stay with clear cases for these gorgeous phones, here's my little contribution after 2 weeks with these two Spigen clear cases I see asked about most.
Note: We first bought a Speck Clear, but it scuffed fast, felt bulky, and didn't have the nice grippiness their opaque Candyshells do. We got the Speck Grip for something to trust out on a horse or Rollercoaster. It's a very grippy, slim tank.
Since then, I've been VERY happy with both my Spigen Neo-hybrid and Ultra-hybrid crystal cases. I'd read reviews obsessively for weeks, so was a little skeptical, but I think @Pilz was correct in assuming they'd fix noted issues after the first batch or so, since mine do not have the issues noted in older reviews.
So, point by point comparisons:
- NEO-hybrid - has metallic colored rim piece
-ULTRA-hybrid - solid, all clear
Drop Protection:
Ultra-hybrid crystal - I feel very confident. It's military grade rated, and we can feel/see why.
Corners and edges are strong & cushioned.
It has more lip on front, and nice, curved "feet" on back corners, so no scuff marks from laying it down, no fear about a fall on front or back. There is space between the back of the case and the phone, adding more protection (and making "watermarks" almost impossible - see below).
Neo-Hybrid Crystal - I wouldn't trust with a bad drop. Not military grade, no air cushion, just "dual layer," which doesn't mean a whole lot, like it does in a Speck.
It has no feet on the soft back, and a little less lip in front.
Grippiness:
Ultra-hybrid - some grippiness in the material on the lips & edges. Buttons and ridge around the back adds some friction
Neo-hybrid - almost none. Good enough grip in hand, but very slippery in your pocket
If any clear, strong material could be as grippy as Speck's rubbery material, they would have used it in their clear case.
Backs (and about watermarking):
Ultra-hybrid - back doesn't touch the phone. It's stiff & flat. So the only water-marking I get is a tiny smidgen after a lot of use or pressure in my purse, touching the AT&T mark, under the camera. With concerted effort, I once got a about a 1" x 1/4" strip there.
Both were easy to pop off with a squeeze to the sides of the case.
Neo-hybrid - has a fine dot matrix on inside of relatively soft, slightly curved back
Buttons:
Ultra-hybrid - Ridged, firmer, prominent, clicky, and nice. The ridges could be smoothed (see below), but I like them for friction in my pocket.
Neo-hybrid - Perfect feel. Almost flush with rim, less firm, clicky.
Fingerprints:
No difference between Ultra or Neo. Neither a problem, although any clear case over black phone is going to show things like crazy. On my silver phone, you have to shine the sun at an angle to see anything. I'm always puffing on and wiping all my cases, regardless, for the feel.
... Continued in next post
... Continued...
Beauty
Ultra-hybrid - I didn't trust pics, or I would have just bought this one. It's just as nice with the clear, kind of sparkly edges as the Neo is with the metallic rim. It shows off the phone's curved back as well.
No watermarking problem. (See above)
Neo-hybrid - Slightly sleaker beauty. Has the metallic rim, smoother lines, slightly slimmer, flatter buttons. Beautiful.
Dot matrix in back is barely noticeable, but ensures no watermarking or dust, ever.
Miscellaneous observations
Ultra-hybrid:
- Because of the air space between the back and the phone, and no obvious rim around the camera cutout, I was most concerned about dust getting in. So far, none, even from my purse or using it in bed all day on a plush blanket. It seems to be curving from the inside to touch/seal.
- The flat backside has a VERY sharp edge, as though it were unfinished. I wouldn't have been able to use the case another hour if it hadn't been easy to smooth off with my fingernail file.
Neo-hybrid:
- For some people, the decorative rim is somewhat loose and bulges on the sides. Mine doesn't have either problem. Whether that's because I've never separated the rim from the clear case (despite instructions saying to apply them separately), because they did something different, or because I got lucky, who knows. I would not advise separating the two pieces, regardless. The case goes on and off as one just fine without adding that extra stress/stretch to the rim.
Finally, if I had to have only one case of the four I've used for this phone, it would easily be the Ultra-hybrid Crystal.
It has the best combination of great protection and minimalist, clear design.
... But it's nice to have the sweet Neo-hybrid for dress occasions where it's safer than most and probably the most attractive of all.
I have the Speck Clear Candyshell case for my Galaxy S7 Edge. Well I dropped it from about 4 ft yesterday onto the floor and the screen shattered on the left hand side. I am not sure where the military grade protection is, but it didn't hold up for me. Looks like the lips didn't do their job and the entire left edge of the screen hit the floor. :crying:

Ouch! That's scary to hear. Speck is where I go for the ultimate in protection. Their clear case seems to be a quality anomaly in many respects.

Thanks. They do look very much alike. Do you think either one to be more scratchable than the other? I never put my Neo on its back or in my purse unprotected because I worry about it scuffing.

I was thinking of doing this too. Were you able to smooth it down completely to where it feels totally smooth/round, or did you just take a bit of the sharpness off? And did it look OK?

Yes. You can't see it at all. I left the top edge alone just to compare.
I made it smooth and more rounded, but there's still a palpable rise, unlike the curved back of the phone or the Neo.
I started with lighter strokes, done just in areas I touch most, but as the days want by, got more brave and did all of it thoroughly.
FWIW, I used my diamond dust fingernail file, which is pretty fine even on the "shaping" side. I used that side most. The "finishing" side smoothed slick, but so did just using the case a bit, so it wasn't worth bothering.
On the onyx black phones, the neo hybrid back adds a bit of haze, so I find the ultra hybrid to look quite a bit better to me.
The gap in the back does worry me as some work trips I go on have a ton of dust. You can definitely tell a difference by just taking it in the shower, moisture gets between the back and the case for the ultra hybrid easier.
The neo hybrid also looks and feels larger in all dimensions to me. According to their site, it's depth is slightly larger which adds a bit of protection when setting it down face up or down, but yeah it doesn't have air cushions or claim the mil spec. The neo's texture on the sides feels nice. Also, my Monoprice cables don't fit cleanly in this case, though I can force it in. The ultra hybrid is flexible with the ports

The best case/screen protector in my experience

I have tried many accessories and I can say that most of the screen protectors suck. in my experience the best glass screen protector is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351988284417?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT - this screen protector is absolutely amazing and its only drawback is the size, it doesn't cover the sides well enough.
As for the best case my award goes to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351988284417?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT - It is thin, it feels great, the cutouts are perfect and the best part is what they have done with the vol/power buttons. they didnt make cut outs instead they are covered in silicon which makes it much much much easier to hit those buttons. compared to nillkin this outperforms it since it covers more phone space, has more accessible buttons, has a slightly bigger screen lip (the lip doesn't portrude much) and is cheaper.
I hope I have helped, if you have any questions please ask.

I would but I peeled it off to try other protectors and now I'm using a different one that covers more screen but has bubbles all around it. I would buy the old one again but it'll be a waste to just throw this one away even if the bubbles annoy me. The screen protector that I recommended here is great, doesn't leave any bubbles and feels amazing. Only problem is that it leaves 0.3cm out on each side which isn't too bad but it does leave a lot exposed. It's the best one you could buy and works great with the case that I also recommended. The review on the link was left by me by the way. I hope I helped.
check this out, i tried it and is pretty good, it fully covers the phones face. But gotta install it well unlike me

I finally found a screen protector that works for me. It's fully transparent (no adaptive brightness issue) and it does cover the left and right sides of the screen. There is a small 3mm gap on the top/bottom edges but its not annoying. also I had to use the included oil to remove the halo all around the edges. Here's the link:

This looks absolutely fantastic, cafele seems to be a good brand seeing as how they make such quality cases and screen protectors. I wonder if they sell the gel separately? Also what is the quality of the screen protector like? Is it oleophobic? If the screen protector isn't good then I would like to buy the gel separately and use it on a nilkin protector. Thank you for sharing this!
How do you use the oil to remove the halo?
bozy09 said:
I would but I peeled it off to try other protectors and now I'm using a different one that covers more screen but has bubbles all around it. I would buy the old one again but it'll be a waste to just throw this one away even if the bubbles annoy me. The screen protector that I recommended here is great, doesn't leave any bubbles and feels amazing. Only problem is that it leaves 0.3cm out on each side which isn't too bad but it does leave a lot exposed. It's the best one you could buy and works great with the case that I also recommended. The review on the link was left by me by the way. I hope I helped.

You mean, like 0.3mm out, right? 0.3cm (i.e., 3mm) seems quite a lot. And doesn't it create the halo effect due to that?
I had several units of this brand in the past for the Mi4c but they were crashing all the time, without apparent reason.
Regarding the case you recommend, from Cafele brand, is it proeminent in front so it properly protects the screen when the phone is turned face down? From the picture in the ebay it seems not, but those pictures are not real actually.
Currently I have this case of brand Luanke from Gearbest, which seems very solid and thus protect the phone very well, volume and power buttons work better than without case (same as you described with yours) while giving a nice look, but I find it a little unconfortable in hand due to not so smooth edge cuts:
gearbest.com/cases-leather/pp_631798.html
As you can see in the pictures, the case has is least 1mm larger than the phone in the front side. How is yours regarding this matter? If you could post a picture it would be nice.

tackling your questions in order:
1) yes i meant 0.3cm/3mm (it is a big gap i agree but no halo effect)
2) The lip on the front of the case is very small, it wouldn't protect a faceplant on concrete but if you left the phone on your table then it wouldn't make contact with the screen. you are right about the pictures in the listing, the images are wrong and the lip is bigger than that but it isn't going to be very protective.
3) Ill be able to post a picture for you sometime later today. I dont have a spare camera so ill use my friend's phone.

Thanks for the pictures.
Yap, it looks as the same as the one I have now on my Mi 5s. However, I paid only 0.50 USD in AliExpress
Before this I tried the ASLING brand from Gearbest, but that was very bad: not glass, cheap plastic (you can even see a grid of small dots in the screen), noisy when touching (just as plastic), fingerprint magnet, and completely reflective, I needed to put the brightness on the maximum. And it was pulling out easily. In summary, simply garbage. I removed after some hours of use.
This one similar to yours, looks bad in the edges, but at least is full transparent and has real glass touch.
Now I ordered the Mocolo full cover and also the Cafele with comes with oil to apply. I will post pictures when I received them and after trying them.
Cheers.

Is there a matte finished screen protector for our device like in this link https://m.aliexpress.com/s/item/32624827571.html?spm=a2g0n.search-cache.0.0.70bc08b9Fx4YsM

Too bad

I've tried Cafele's tempered glass and the oil removes the bubble effect on the side.

I am using it as well and I am surprised how good the oil works to fill out the edge gaps. I am also a little worried whether or not it'll damage my screen in someway. :/

I tried al few screen protectors, but they were all crap. They did'nt stick on the edge of the Display.
My last try was this one and i realy can recommend it:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B01N3RHZDC/ref=ya_st_dp_summary?tag=93ref-21
It's a so called full-cover. It fits absolutly perfect to the display and its nearly invisible. There is no ugly edge where the cover does'nt stick on the Display.
The fingerprint sensor is still working without problems.
btw.....I use it in combination with this silicone-case:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B01M2DNTD2/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=93ref-21
In combination with a silicone-case you can't see that there is a screen protector on it.
It looks simply great in my opinion.
The only negative thing is, that the screen protector is more sensitive for greasy fingerprints than the original display. But hey.....that's no big problem.
Yes, I know. Its not the cheapest solution. Maybe you can find similar parts on aliexpress, but no guarantee that it will be in the same quality.

Do I really need a screen protector?

Hey guys,
I just got my Mate 10 pro. For safety reasons, I bought UAG cover for the phone. However, I am curious, if I really need a screen protector. I don't work at rough places, but I just don't want any scratch on the screen. What do you guys think?
Yes u need. The screen gets very easy small scratches from being in your pockets.

Thanks! I am confused between Spigen nano and glass protector.
YES!
A tiny bit of sand can scratch Gorilla Glass. And that's just one thing. There is nothing worse than a scratched screen - it ruins the experience (for me) for years, as long as you have the device. With a protector (either "hydrogel" or "tempered glass"), you just replace it and call it a day. Let alone drops by the way. One drop on an uneven surface and even in a case, it will break.
You can pick two kinds.
GLASS.
- Nilkin: Does not extend to full side, but since it's 0.3mm thicc (or so), it will still protect the screen from everything. Good experience from people, I also bought one, it's ok.
DO NOT BUY eBay screen protectors. They extend full, and look nice. BUT, thanks to the design of our device, they kinda lift off around the edges, and require you to hard press to get your fingers/taps registered. It's a pain. It's annoying too.
Hydrogel.
It's kind of a plastic layer kind of thing, but can be stretched, squeezed to fit all along the edges. This gives a better look (cannot even see it). Feel wise I believe it's nice, not too bad. Only bad thing about it is that it's well, not glass. So if you drop the phone on a sharp edge, it might just transfer the force and break the screen/digitizer.
Keep in mind, CASE MATTERS A LOT. A good case will reduce drops by.. I don't know.. 99%?
Seriously, without a case the phone is a soapbar. And in a bad case too, there is barely any grip. Get a good one and you are set for life.

That was a detailed response. Thank you!
What is your opinion on Spigen Nano Liquid?
I have not tried it... yet. In my opinion, it's just an extra layer. But no protection.
This review(er) makes sense: https://youtu.be/ZeHeHLjCAQE?t=148
You add a new layer, that gets scratched... and is attached to the screen. LOL. I guess it would have been better if Spigen had a remover.
Is it useless? No! I think the Liquid Glass is perfect for phones like Huawei P20 Pro, where Huawei went ultra cheap, and just used a crappy screen protection. I would still add a glass on top (because that's the only thing protecting from impacts, etc), but hey, if anything were to happen, it would provide better protection. But, our Mate 10? It has Gorilla Glass 3. (which is more resistant than Glass 5.)
The Hydrogel thing is like a bit flexible plastic. Kinda rubbery. So I suspect that also takes off a bit of force if my phone's screen were to hit something.
But, tempered glass all the way. If you cannot find one that covers just right, works just good, then just go hydrogel IMO.

I have been looking been to see which one looks better, and I found Poetic. Maybe, I order this one.
https://www.poeticcases.com/products/screen-protector-2017-huawei-mate-10-pro
I tried some Glas protectors they were all trash dur to the rounded edges and most sont work with cases. i have used normal plastic like in the old days and i am very happy. They scratch kinda easy but i paid like 4 bucks for 5 protectors.
I will ask Huawei on Live chat. Let see what they recommend.
Thanks!
This is the screen protector recommended to me by Huawei representative while having a live chat.
https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-Prote...96&sr=8-8&keywords=Mate+10+Pro+tempered+glass
Well, finally I tried the Nilkin glass protector. I would rate it 3/5.
- Feels great.
- Good, but average package. I mean what do we expect anyway?
- No edge-to-edge coverage, as I said that would be hard to pull, so there is a gap on each side.
- I have a visible halo on edge.
Overall? I would go hydrogel. Seriously.
- Buy 2-3 pieces to start with. Chances are good it will feel weird at first. You could experiment with the cheapest ebay ones, they feel the same. Basically you apply, and you can squeeze out all the bubbles, dirt, and also stretch it to all the corners. It gives a 100% cover.
- It can be scratched, it's faaar from the 9H hardness of tempered glass. But who cares? Rip it off, put a new one on it. Boom. I have used mine for about 3 months and only now I had a large scratch/damage on the top-right of the hydrogel thing. That's it.
Case wise I bought so many... but my favorite is the noname, ebay case called iPaky. It has a full transparent back, yet, has a very good hold to it. Not too bulky, not too heavy. It's seriously a superb case IMO. I tried many, this one is my favorite. Especially because it shows off the purple/golden/whatever color of the phone, which I like, as this is the first non-pitch-black phone I own.
You can just search "ipaky mate 10 pro" on ebay. Or "mate 10" whichever you have.

I really wish they make the next gen Mate with a perfectly flat screen with at least 2mm after the screen end still flat so you can really put a full screen glass/film protector with no issues.
Currently I'm using my mate 10 with no screen protector at all because I hate them on not completely covering screen on its width.
My 1st phone in years without a screen protector.
When I get the 1st scratch on my Mate 10 screen, I'll put a protector. 0 scratches so far, and it is all about luck (a single grain of sand can ruin it all).

Thank you! I just ordered SaharaCase tempered glass for mate 10 pro. I will post the reviews here too. Although I was recommended for IQ Shield by Huawei, but I didn't like it.
