CyanogenMod 9/10 for locked bootloaders? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Is it possible to develop a version of CyanogenMod (either 9.1 or 10) for those of us who have locked bootloaders?
I have been watching the Xperia S and other Xperia phones forums and there are some threads about MIUI and CyanogenMod for locked bootloaders. It seems these versions work by removing the kernel so we the stock one is kept on the phone.
Anyone with a bit of knowledge who cares to explain? Feel free to chime in :fingers-crossed:

There has also been no evidence so far of them leaving massive security holes in the device like Samsung did with the GS3 and GN2.

But if it's made under the same company that let their playstation network get hacked anythings possible

But that is very different, especially regarding the security used. Also that was done by Anonymous, who are highly skilled at having. Devs and hackers are different and have different skill sets.

Mobile division is fairly separate from the PS3 division. After all, it was a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson until not too long ago.
Most if not all of the software/bootloader engineering is still done by teams in Sweden as far as I can tell.
An exploit might be found, but it is NOT going to be remotely as easy as the Verizon Samsungs. Both of those required either leaks from disgruntled employees or security design mistakes (or possibly sabotage) in the device.
One of the key things that led to the GN2 compromise was the fact that only one GN2 variant had a secure boot chain.
ALL Xperia Ts have a secure boot chain - the only thing that differs in unlockability is what serial numbers are whitelisted on Sony's servers that provide unlock codes.

Yeah, the main thing will be if it is on the same chipset as the current ONE. If it is, then it could be possible. It would be fun to play with for sure!

Think of the options. If they make one device and you can have your pick of sense, aosp, or windows which is actually gaining market share. I think the idea is kinda brilliant. Especially if its the same exact device.
How is it considered spreading yourself thin if you're making the same device on multiple carriers anyways?
It would be a great idea to have one device with multiple platform choices. However, it sounds like the Windows device is going to have ddr3 memory so I wonder what else will be different? I could completely see myself switching platforms weekly, it's like getting a new phone, but keeping the same one.

It would be illegal to put windows on your phone if it didn't come with it. It would also be illegal to modify it, or distribute a windows ROM.

This is the same age old question/problem that has plaqued XDA since it's inception. Technically, everything we do here on the site is Illegal (or at least against the wishes of the manufacturers).

When did this change? I got started in modifying my phone with windows mobile and it was never an issue then. That's when i started on xda and ppcgeeks. ROM development was a different scene and the process was different but windows software was modified hacked and releases for the masses.

Nothing changed. As I said before, it is the same old issue that has always been an issue. Technically most ROM modification stuff going on here is illegal.
A few thoughts:
1 - The difference between us and the HD2 is that the HD2 started with Windows Phone on it. Then, it got an improved Windows Phone 7, but I think they got away with it because the device initially had WP. Then, it got Android. In that order, its fine because Android is open source. Unfortunately, WP is not open source. MeeGo and Tizen are open source, and perhaps could be ported to the One if the development is good enough/popular enough. Never underestimate the power of the developers on this forum: especially when they team up.
2 - They get an SD card slot? UNFAIR!! :crying:
3 - @raptoro07 It says in your sig. that you have 2 HTC Ones. Wanna give one to me? Lol I haven't gotten mine yet--I'm not sure if I'll go with AT&T or Sprint. I really wanna stay with Sprint since I've met a lot of devs on here that have Sprint who I like and I want to have their work on my future devices. But, as long as I'm on a shared plan with my parents, I can't make that decision. This qualifies another :crying: if you ask me.

If you don't mind the ugly logo on the back, the AT&T One is exactly like the Google Play edition/Dev edition (AFAIK). Except, you know, the logo on the back.
Also, Android is open source. Windows is not. That means it's less illegal...
While the actual distribution of full ROMs is technically illegal (you're "stealing" HTC's code), I'm pretty sure you're allowed to modify your own phone, even if it does remove warranty.

Windows is paid ssoftware with a very restrictive license. Cyanogenmod, aosp, linux kernel, and many other projects here are free and have open source licenses that encourage people to modify and distribute the software.

However Sense, Beats, Touchwiz, and other OEM software is not open and therefore redistribution of them and modifications are technically illegal. My point was only to say that it is no different than 90% of what is going on XDA.

If you ask me, neither look like something to write home about. I would've loved it back in 2011 when I went to buy an HTC Arrive. But, then I got an Android, and, yeah I'm pretty much addicted now.
BUT ON THE OTHER HAND....
Android could be ported to either of these devices with no real legal uncertainty... It depends which and how many devs buy one.

[Q] My battery gets extremely hot is this normal

Hello I just upgraded from the droid maxx to the droid turbo and I love this phone bit for some reason whenever I do any sort of thing on it. The CPU gets extremely hot. According to my pjone y CPU has reached all the way to 139°f and right now I am only using the internet and it has gone from 90°f to 134°f. Is this normal? I can understand if I am using a lot of apps at one time but I am only using the internet and it keeps getting hotter and the app I am using to check my CPU temputure says that at this tempurture it can damage my phone. Should I take it in to have it looked at?

Apparently this is a common problem. I just called VZW today about it and they are overnighting me a brand new device since they have no refurbs left due to sending out so many replacements.
Thank you for the information. I just called them and they said because I bought the phone less than 2 weeks ago they will replace it with a brand new one. However, I wonder if they are ever going to be able to root the droid turbo. Because if they ever do that will help the battery life and would probably other things like the heating problem

The battery is going to get hot because of many things. Its not a over heating issue. Just because Verizon says it is doesnt make it a problem. Verizon half the time has no clue. Call motorola they will give u the best information. They will tell you its normal.

Read my post a little more carefully next time. It says "there seems to be no interest", not to mention none of the Motos havent seen a full root exploit since 444 came out. Roughly a year of no further development for an OEM would suggest little to no interest in my opinion

Commenters like myself? Are you serious?! Last I checked there a no rules about posting your opinion whenever you please. Never once have I asked a Dev for an ETA or update. So unless stating your point of view on a subject would deter a Dev from releasing anything, which is unlikely, how about you get off your high horse and quit acting like an entitled troll. Its commenters like you that have given XDA a bad rep

If you fail to even grasp basic information made public on a site called 'github', then maybe, just maybe you should stop posting nonsense.
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_noblelte-common/tree/cm-14.0.
This is the device tree for Android Nougat, kernel and vendor trees have been created a year ago or so, and ever since I have been working on the device.
That being said, I own the N920T variant, which is still facing the issues with no incall audio that I was not able to fix yet (and nobody else was able to fix it either).
However, I was told my device sources (yes, mine, I and only I created them from the beginning, of course many more people worked on the CyanogenMod and Exynos platform code) work fine on other variants too and as part of those efforts, the N920C (international variant) has working incall audio with the same audio and RIL stack.
I'm not even going to start arguing about money here, with an average pay of 30€ per hour for an engineering/integration task like this, that would make 25 hours of work max. (then the price of a new Galaxy Note 5 would be surpassed). I spent way more time working on the device so far, believe it or not, I honestly don't care.
You are free to compile the images from the sources I provided and flash them on your device - the general system will work, while (important) things like the camera will not.
But wouldn't you say at least the basic functions of a phone, like calls, should be working before releasing even a public build?

Hypothetical question.....

I have been seeing posts recently of someone sending in their Nexus 5X for repairs, and getting more RAM in the phone. Hypothetically speaking, would it be possible to take the Samsung Galaxy s8's screen, and put it on the Nexus 6 ? How difficult would that be ?

Ram and emmc chips are one thing... The panel of s8 would require a whole new redo of kernel with drivers to support it. Not only that they don't match hardware and ribbon cable wise. Not only that Nexus 6 is very close to end of life so doubt anyone would even do it even if it were possible.

You know, of course, that "Senior Member" is a meaningless title since you only have to post 100 comments to "earn" it In any case, many people don't understand how the hardware works, they only barely know how to unlock the bootloader on a Nexus and flash TWRP and a custom ROM. By the time one would be done doing all the hardware and software modding he'd need to fit a Galaxy S8 screen on the Nexus it'd be more worthwhile to just get the S8

Let's put it this way: it'd actually be easier to get a Galaxy S8, learn from scratch (as in with zero coding experience) how to break Samsung’s Knox and related security features, forcibly bypass any bootloader locks present and port a custom recovery like TWRP than it would be to make a S8 display work on a Nexus 6
But it still comes in black right?

Would a Toyota Camry windshield fit on a Dodge Charger?
Hahaha......Okay okay......*face palm* I had a feeling this is the response I would get. Honestly, I have been a member of XDA for years. And as one of you already pointed out, I'm one of those "senior members" that has learned how to root, install a custom recovery and a few other things. I posted this, because I really have no idea how some hardware works on phones compared to computers. I have worked on laptops and desktops for years, and some of the hardware in laptops is interchangeable, and others, is not. But hey, at least I made a few of you laugh, right ?

Samsung likes to release so many variants of one device that even swapping a screen from one model(TMO) to a model(VRZ) may have a ribbon issue. I have always been partial to the _Samsung Round_ screen but, i am not THAT partial. I have gotten mics.,loud and ear speakers to "line up" and "fit" as a way of replacement or out of pure curiosity.

So where is the unlock switch?

I've got an FD, cant find it in developers or security. Anyone seen this buried in there somewhere?

Yes. I have (or will have soon) sm-n950f. Unfortunately I can't help because it's been ordered but hasn't shipped yet. Should ship tomorrow.

That's strange that it's not there. The s8 was as simple as flipping a switch in developer options right? I found only this one article on it which claims its in developer options but the article looks kind of shady to me. Some typos and all of a sudden he starts mentioning LG half way down so not sure if it's any help. Take a look:

Damn, didn't think so. Sorry I can't be of more help. I'm rooting for you guys. Hope you find it, we won't get far without it.
I've unlocked a lot of phones both before and after that switch was added. The scary scenario is that all Note8's are locked. I hope not because I like this phone and would hate to have to sell it. There are others though, could be the switch is hidden, could be you don't need it, etc. Lets not lose hope yet.

I sure hope they aren't all locked. I went to great lengths and expense to get the international version. Even switched carriers to get it.

I've been doing a bunch of google searches on this and I'm seeing some mixed messages. The majority of what I'm seeing say if oem unlock is not there, it's because the oem or carrier has removed it because they don't want you to unlock the BL.
I did see 2 instances where people say if you have an international version of a phone and it's not there, it's because it comes with the BL already unlocked and thus that option doesn't need to be there.
While I hope that's the case, I doubt it. For 2 reasons. 1- the vast majority of what I'm seeing basically say the oem has removed it and your **** out of luck. 2- the international s8 had it there so it's unlikely it just comes with the BL unlocked from the factory.
Edit: And now I'm even more confused. There is a guy here that says he has it in his dev options and he has a screenshot to show it.
