[TUTORIAL] Simple fix to remove stock scrolling lag Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 General

I just found a really great simple way to remove 90% scrolling lag on JB 4.x.x ROM's. All you have to do is:
- Open Google Currents
- Go to Settings
- Disable background sync
- Et voila, pretty much complete lag free scrolling!
I noticed a HUGE difference and made my device nice and snappy again...
Hope that helps. If it does, hit the thanks button

Another thing that removes lag and makes everything run smoother:

Fill it, release it, reboot it, omg!
If you read the first review for the app it will explain how and why it works.

Just ran that program and have to admit it does seem a little smoother, and not placebo... Thanks for recommending it

If I had a nickle every time someone posted to disable Currents, I'd have at least $3.45.

*edit* it works pretty well, i dont like having to find the vogue forun every time i boot it up though
Do you plan on releasing the source of this app? I had a project I was working on for a forum, but ran into some issues. Some example coding would definitely be nice.
Very nice but no way to bookmark forums = no good for me
I love it! ill use it when I can't get to a computer. Very good for show off threads because it takes 1 less step to upload pics!

Well, that's true! It looks really nice, and it is simple to use. There is just one problem that I found. Sometimes when there is an update for an app (don't know if it is random or some particular apps) there is no Update button, only Open button that will run that application. You can update that app only when you have two or more updates and update them all at the same time. Anyone experienced this?

Agree on the updates and the fact it is sometimes slow. Wonder how much data it is downloading when you open it.

EVO 3D effect on Vivid Home Screen

I DON'T KNOW WHERE ELSE TO POST THIS, SO IF THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE, FEEL FREE TO REMOVE OR MOVE.
If this has already been posted, please kindly disregard post. I didn't find it any other place, so..!
The way I got it to work on mine is I used SQLLite Editor. You must be rooted obviously.
Go to SQLLite and scroll until you find "Settings Storage" (com.android.providers.settings)
Tap it, then tap settings.db
Then tap system
Tap htc_3d_home_screen, then hit your menu button and select "Edit Record"
Change value from "0" to "1"
Reboot phone
Once phone reboots, look at screen, now move phone side by side and you'll see the so called 3D effect you see on the Evo3D.
Not much, but thought some of you might be interested or curious as to how it would look on the Vivid.
You can always switch that off by doing the same thing, then switching the 1 for a "0", then reboot.
I didn't notice battery change either way, your choice
Happy New Year
I guess I'll throw in that famous disclaimer: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE BY MAKING THESE MODIFICATIONS, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO MESS WITH THE DB FILES, READ UPON AND LEARN BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANYTHING. SOME CHANGES CAN AND WILL RENDER YOUR DEVICE USELESS..
Awesome. Thanks for sharing this. I'll have to give it a try.

I don't notice any tho, which is funny considering that it's supposed to use processor resources to make the effect. I've had it on since 10am this morning and didn't notice any lag
BTW, do you know why I have to set my timezone each time I reboot my phone? It is annoying !!
Running beta 10, but is been doing it on any of the roms out there. Thought it was a kernel issue, but not sure. It is set to automatic for time and timezone

My thought is it happens after losing network and getting it back. Hard to tell though. It was always in my status bar when I unlock. But going into Date/Time settings still shows right time zone and time.

Yes, each time I disable network and re-enable, it prompts for the timezone, or when I reboot
This is still really intriguing me lol. Does the 3D effect only happen on the homescreen? Otherwise I feel it might make my eyes bleed.

Nexus 7 For The Elderly

An elderly relative of mine shall be getting herself a Nexus 7 tomorrow, which she plans to use mainly for e-Reading plus a bit of media usage in the form of BBC iPlayer. I was looking for an easy-to-use interface for her. Any launcher recommendations or simple customisations to make it just a little bit easier? I am sure she could use it as is, but making it easier so I don't have to teach her so much will be good.
How elderly? Talk back might be nifty. I tried it once, it was annoying as hell though

Instructions are poor. You get a quick startup guide on paper and then have to open the book section to read the user manual. I find it harder to learn about a system when I an constantly flipping from the manual to a page to try out what I was reading.

I was more just on about launchers which would allow her to have a nice, clean UI that isn't too cluttered.
Anyone know of such a launcher?

Thanks. I can install Apex on my Galaxy Note, so I'll fiddle around and see what I can do on it.
Just empty the desktop from every single icon . Than..
1.on home screen Add icons that this person will use the most e.g BBC iPlayer (not sure bits going to work without flash), chrome, play store and a nice looking clock widget or something
2. Set each other screen with categories e.g one for books where you place the appropriate widgets and icons . One for videos and one for whatever else like notes calendar and other productivity ....
3. Do that person a favour and download some games .. yes games . You'd be surprised how often older people like to play ... ideal games would be mahjong, card games , also things like Bejeweled ,Zuma, scrabble type games
Stock android launcher is good enough trust me you just have to know how to organise it. Also wait for chameleon that might change things

Just wanted to let all Nexus 7 owners know...

It seems Dolphin has disabled Flash. I tried to turn it on some time back and it gave some message about HTML5 and flash causing your browser to crash. I was just reminded of this a few minutes ago and wanted to update anyone who is interested. Anyway, I had side loaded Adobe flash some time back and it is still working on Mozilla Firefox. Not sure what other browsers support it except for Frost lite. Hopefully I posted this under the right topic because all of my posts always get moved, lol. I am not rooted because I like the way everything is currently and have no real need to root. So, I guess it seems dumb for me to post this seeing most on here are probably rooted? God bless!
As you can see it no longer allows you to turn it on.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
This is old news I believe, I'm fairly certain Dolphin has disabled flash for months now.
Best bet for flash is the AOSP browser. At the same time, though, I feel that if a site still uses Flash, they don't deserve my clicks

Actually Firefox is the best bet. Doesn't require flashing, and works fine.
Puffin Browser works fine with sideloaded Flash 11 and Android 4.2.1
Boat browser mini work fine with flash and android 4.2.

The only thing is if you update it becomes bigger and bigger in storage usage. It already is on the "not-lite" side. I only use it for flash video. It's not my choice for browsing.

Interesting. I deleted Dolphin anyway. Never could see what all the hype was about. That fella who developed naked browser seems rather helpful. Wonder why the browser uses HTTP by default? By the way, I did ask him that question on his forum post. I am waiting for a reply. Thanks for the link!

I use Firefox for flash myself. I prefer the aosp browser but haven't rooted or anything so Firefox was the only way I could find to watch south park episodes on my tablet.
