It can't be done without Odin. You have 2 methods. Qzem's - with increasing binary counter, and Diego's without increasig it.

Oke thanks for your reply, but if i copy the su binary to /system/bin, should superuser work?

And how could you do that without root? As I know ADB is not working without root.
Someone correct me if I am wrong. But sure there will be some tutorial if it can be done without Odin.

With ADB?
adb root shell or something?

Yea. You need root permission to get to root of phone with ADB.

Oh i diddnt know that.
Is it possible to make a update.zip with the SU binary? Because there are tutorials to create a flashable zip file?

I think that is working on I9001, my friend rooted that way his phone. But for I9070 I think it can't be done that way. Wait for some dev to answer you.

Rooting with update.zip can only be done with a modified recovery - stock recovery will not install a update.zip without Samsung's signature.

[Q] chainfire GB root...§ not #

Hi, need a little help.
After rooting with chainfire and upgraging ROM and Kernal, to original release
Found after using "Android terminal emulator"
That prompt was doller sign, where root is...#
Tried using the "gparted" command and was told I did not have superuser granted-
Despite having the superuser app' installed.
I realise this root method involves a temporary recovery, and so assume root is only on the PDA, and CSC.
Q: How can I get full root access to the whole device?
Can I do this using a permanent recovery, as provided by Philz mod on ICS?
Many thanks,
yeah.. if you install philz kernel on ICS it gives you full root.. but on the emulator its still $.. yse the "su" command and you should get #

Many thanks, I have tried "su" on my device terminal and got root...#.
Duno why didn't try before? Tried "user" "uid" etc?
Still can't get a partion table, or access to the phone rom!
So what exactly would be the difference if I flashed the ICS and Philz mod??
Thanks for your time.
no difference, I thought you had partial root.

So did I untill you adviced switching to su,
Now I have a root terminal, but expected to find PIT files, and also some reference to the "phone rom"
I can see the PDA directories, and files for the CSC directory & boot.
But I understand there are 4 partions-
Phone
Pda
Csc
Boot
????
hmmm. If you go to the thread by hg42 about pit partitioning, you can see all the data about how the usb storage is partitioned
Thanks for the tip- plentyo reading to do.
Many thanks

Thanks mate,
Looks like some handy info through "hg42".
Obviously a very tricky subject, will take time reading- before acting.
One thing is, at least I can now see that I do have the partions, through root browser,
Just didn't know the labels!
So it appears I have full root, so am happy now to continue- exsperimenting.
As noobie got a lot to read/learn.
Thanks again- will be quiet now, for a bit

[Q] Root SGS I9070 DDLK2

Hi All - very new to the forum an very new to Android. I have SGS I9070 DDLK2 (i am from India). Airtel is the provider.
I have been going thru the forum and tried to root the SGS, with the method in the below link:
h t t p: / / techdraginfo . blogspot . com / 2012 / 10 / how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-advance
After that i installed the SU and Busybox from Google Play, but on my SU log's it reads - Binary outdated? i tap to update the update being, get error "no root access".. the busybox too i am unable to install (symfile is selected) its gives error "boot recovery" and the install fails. BUT i have both SU and Busybox in my application list? Is my phone rooted ?
I do not want to upgrade to JB, need GB only. as the software that i have will work only on 4.0.x... i need help from the forum to guide me on how to gain complete root access on I9070 with BG as OS... I am very novice at all this - was able to root as there were screen shots in the link that i used for rooting my SGS I9070.

Download your stock firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmware or http://samsung-updates.com/tag/firmware/ and attach me kernel.bin.md5 from that file. I will repack it for step 10. You can post that on that thread for rooting, maybe someone else needs it. And it will be easier to find there, then here on this one.

Thank you soooo much. I really appreciate your help.. one last thing, let me know if the below steps are correct:
i will follow the link that you gave me to root
will download GT-I9070-root.rar, will extract ODIN
will enable USB debugging and mock location on the phone
turn off the phone and put it on download mode
Under PIT file browse for GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G_20111220_KL6.pit, you have extracted this file before.
Under PDA choos rootkernel.tar.md5
Then check what options are checked (Selected), be sure to UNCHECK (remove selction) Re-Partition, Flash Lock, Phone EFS Clear, Phone Bootloader Update! Only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time should be checked (Selected)
When this is set just press Start and wait for phone to reboot
Now repeat steps from 4 to 9, with one exception at step 7 I will CHOOSE THE FILE THAT YOU REPACKED FOR ME....
let the phone boot
Install SU / Busybox and Traingle away....
and i will be done - pls let me know.... :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

I use SuperSU on JB now, but on GB I didn't have root access when I used it (didn't work at all). No need to change.

Need to uninstall first SuperSU.

[Q] Help on Super SU (please)

Hi.
I am a stock JB user with philz. I recently formated my phone and installed fresh copy via PC Odin. Clean install.
Just want to ask. If i install super SU directly Like any other app, Will it give me root.
Or is it important to install any other kernel. I am not thinking of wipeing and all sort of things.
I just want root nothing else on my stock JB (India)
Regards
Mani
Just flash the root_supersu.zip in recovery you will only got the supersu

you can reflash root via CWM.. to avail root access again..

How does installing an apk file remove root access ? Type of apk is irrelevant ! Your statement is absolutely nonsensical.
If you had meant installing stock ROM via Odin, then you're correct; but that isn't what you said in your post.
@OP
No, simply installing the superSU apk will not grant root access.
Do this:
1.)Go to this thread
2.)Follow option 1B
Just flash Philz Kernel!

This part is not clear to me. If I installing the Recovery on non rooted device, how the recovery will root it at the same time? I will still have recovery without root.
Option 3 > installation on unrooted ROM.

Because the installation script can gain a temporary root shell
It uses that to install the dual recovery
then its as simple as flashing SuperSU.zip or a pre rooted rom to gain "Full" root.

[LG-H901] Stock ROM, Rooted, with Busybox

Thanks to Mikeyinid and TheJesus for providing the stock img files and flashable recovery zip. I used them more than once on my own device, and got frustrated at having to re-root it every time. To speed things up I decided to create a pre-rooted zip with busybox installed.
Feel free to use it as you see fit. If you format /system before you install this TWRP will warn you that there is no OS installed, but it's wrong, it will boot.

Flash this via TWRP, no wipe should be needed, but it can't hurt.

yes, exactly. I'm just trying to be clear that it is not completely stock because there have been additional files added to the system image. It will not overwrite recovery, only reflash the system and boot partitions.

This is for the h901 which is the Tmo variant just fyi. So yeah you are good.
WiFi calling works fine. The only thing that breaks it sort off is installing xposed and that only breaks it if you don't have LTE at all. If at home you can use WiFi but it has to see LTE signal as well. If you are In. area with no LTE or if airlane mode on with just WiFi on it wont work.

You have to unlock your bootloader first by sending commands over adb after booting into fastboot then you'll have to download the twrp file and flash that over the stock recovery using adb again
