[DISCUSSION] How long do you intend to use N4? - Nexus 4 General

I used to pay $60 to Sprint and now pay $30 for Tmo prepaid plan. So I'm saving $30 a month, which got me thinking I can now afford a new Nexus phone ($300) every year.
Curious to hear what other N4 owners think about the life expectancy of their N4s. Do you buy every new Nexus phones?

I will use it until it dies or I manage to break it. Not interested in LTE as I am more than satisfied with hspa+ speeds for my needs and I will be transitioning to t-mobile's 30 dollar plan in a couple of months when my AT&T contract ends.

As long as Google will support it. The reason why I got my nexus phone is because of the android update and community support. The price is just a bonus

Probably until some time in the first or second quarter of 2014, since the Nexus 4 will have long term support as far as I can see. Just hoping we won't see a launch like the N4 with the next Nexus phone.

Same here, if I don't break it earlier it will be 2014.

Till September 2013 at the minimum for me. Then I'll see what the state of the market is and how the new Google X phone is. Hopefully be able to keep it longer :good:

Until I'm tired of flashing roms on it. Which means it peaked out for me and its time for the next NexusX.

500 years 38 days 16 hours 53 minutes 44 seconds
After that I'll give it to one of my kids

Hopefully till 2015-2016. I've used the G1 in conjunction with other phones since 2009, so I feel I could use this thing for many years.

Until Sammy releases s4 lol

Same. Most apps don't even utilize dual core, let alone 4 cores. Upgrading wouldn't improve real world usage...

Would never buy a new phone just for the sake of having the latest thing.
I won't get a new phone til this one breaks.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

I would like to think that I'll use this phone for years to come, bit I'll probably buy the new nexus and sell this to recoup some of the cost.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

I will definitely keep the phone until it breaks just like how I'm gonna keep my galaxy nexus until it breaks. I will just let others borrow it or give it to my little brother so that they can enjoy pure Android. I will definitely buy the next nexus at launch though because I'm sure the next one will be even better!

how do i intend to use my N4?
i would say till the next N5 and keylimepie is released probably after this years google i/o. maybe the next nexus will be googles own monster out of the motorola stables.

I'll get my next phone in 2 years when my contract runs out. November 2014 to be exact.
There is no need for a new phone every few months.

Jelly Bean barely pushes two cores so there's no reason to upgrade. I don't know it you guys have noticed yet but Google's is still not as optimized as Apple's. The hardware-to-software performance optimizations just aren't here yet.

The price is pretty good so I could afford to upgrade yearly and it would still be the same price as other devices...only thing that kills is the ****en wait! And order process!
It's definitely a keeper for now!

4, I love the phone and I sold my Note II for it. I'll probably keep it for the year unless the S4 or HTC M7 really catches my eye.
As soon as I get my Experia Z, I will keep it for what it was bought to be, a development phone I can play with.
4. Think I'll keep this thing till there are actual octacores otherwise there aren't any reasons to upgrade. So 3-4 years I'll keep it.

I still go back and forth between my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 4. I use the Galaxy Nexus when I'm snowboarding and for bar nights when I know things might get a little weird.
While I do still love the Galaxy Nexus, every time I pop the SIM card back into the Nexus 4 and turn it on I am instantly reminded of how much more solid the build quality and performance are on the Nexus 4. It really is an extremely noticeable difference.
For that reason I'll definitely be holding onto this phone for at least a year. At which point I'll probably get whatever the next Nexus is and use the Nexus 4 as the backup phone.

How much life is left in the nexus 7

How long will it take for the nexus 7 to become laggy and choppy and not as capable for gaming as the future devices will.
Longer than other Tegra3 based devices, as the Nexus will be getting the latest Android for quite some time to come...
145 days, 22 hours, 15 minutes, 45 seconds
Seriously, why post this nonsense?
No one can say... One thing we know for sure is that we will be getting plenty of software updates with the necessary optimisations for our device. It all gets down to optimisation, as some games in the Play Store show. A good-looking game designed for Tegra 3 will often run better than a dated game designed for Mali 400 gpus (as an example).

Go ahead and buy one now, grab a Square Trade discount coupon from their Facebook page (once a week they run at least 30% off deals) and buy a 3 year damage warranty for about $35. When the new one comes out, take your current one out to a parking lot and spike it. Call it into Square Trade, with a week you get your check and grab the new model with it. It turns into renting that N7 for $35 for that period of time.

It will be 3 years old in December. =)
But still devices are getting so strong these days that i'm pretty sure Nexus line devices will get updates longer than Nexus One and S did.
The easiest way to answer this question is:
Theres as much life left in the Nexus to outlive your boredom of the device.
You will replace it before it needs replacing.

It depends on a screen size (and free funds to spend of course ). If the screen size is 5" or bigger I will consider N4 of HTC One.

My upgrade is in September so I still have some time to go. If Google comes out with a vastly improved nexus without a recycled design from another device. By vastly improved I'm talking about Camera quality, LTE, full HD screen and battery life. Sure I'll go for the nexus 5 but if they don't improve all those than I'm going to contemplate jumping ship.

Hmmmm...Nexus 5. If you'll note, the current nexus lineup are all named according to the display size. For Google to add a 4th nexus device to the lineup is unlikely (to much to manage), so the best guess is a refresh of the nexus 4, possibly by another manufacturer, and probably later in the year. What we can expect for I/O is a refresh on the nexus 7 (with the same name), and possibly a non-nexus device from Motorola that runs stock Android.

I think we could expect a new phone as well. Considering that key lime pie is a major update, there is bound to be new features for phones not just tablets. So they will be probably need another device to show off the new features of the new build. I'm doubting they will use a nexus 4 as a demo device, its already fairly old news.

The latest nexus is always a good choice because you get support from Google for a good while and they're easy to resell.
I've had mine for a few months now and when you compare the cost to hardware/software combo of the N4 to any other phone, the N4 wins hands down.
Sure if your budget was unlimited I'd probably go INA different direction (HTC One).
The good thing about the Nexus line is that they hold their value. If you chose to buy a used one now, you can probably sell it when the N5 comes out and not take a significant lose.
My only gripe with the N4 is the camera. My wife's S3 takes better pictures, otherwise its an awesome phone. What device will you be coming from?

I go through Android phones like you wouldn't believe, I've had over 10 in the past 3 years. The Nexus 4 is the best I've ever used and the phone I've stuck with longest. I got one at release and sold it a couple of months ago to try an Xperia Z, sold the XZ after a few weeks and went back to the N4, it's that good.
Ive also had way to many Android handset's over the past 2 years, and even an Iphone 5.
I also had an N4 on release day too and sold that for the iphone.
Sold the iphone to go back to the Nexus 4.:good:
Its by far the best and purest Android phone I have ever used.
I love it so much, I now have a Nexus S as my work phone and a Nexus 10 tablet.

im certainly not disappointed in the nexus 5, but everyone has their own preferences. i think the n5 will be a better 'future proof' phone when compared to the moto g
i ordered my N5 the day it went live.. oct 31 .. 2 hours after it went live and the 16 gig was sold out.. so i went with the 32 gig also... happy i did tho 16 gigs aint much..
It's kind of weird though isn't it?
I ordered a 16gb Nexus 5 on monday and they were completely in stock. Checked back the next day and the Play store says out of inventory, rather than giving a wait time or anything?! And because I was worried this would affect my order I've been rechecking the play store religiously and every once in a while the 16gb comes back in stock but then you refresh the page and it goes away again.
Sorry you had to get the more expensive model. Thankfully my nexus 5 is shipping as we speak
