[Q] Unknown Sources - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to allow installing from an unknown source without rooting? I'm guessing not, but I thought I would ask just in case.

There is now for the HD+. Go to my CWM thread in the development forum and make a bootable CWM and flash the unknown sources/manual OTA zip. You do not need root.

You can do this for the HD as well now. Go to the Nook HD/HD+ CWM Root Tools thread link in LeapinLars signature above.

No, you do not have to root stock first.

If you get a factory cable and follow the instructions in Hashcode's 2nd bootloader thread, verbatim, you will not have any problems whatsoever. I have several friends and family members with KFHD7s that have asked me to "work my magic", and in every instance, I have always used that thread as a reference and I have never run to any problems as a result.
Thank you! By factory cable you mean one of those fast boot cables right? And just to make sure you mean this thread right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848

Yes, and yes. Good luck.
Do not forget: put a custom ROM on your SD Card before you go through with flashing TWRP, you cannot boot into stock ROM, you will loop into TWRP. Be ready to flash a custom ROM when you get into TWRP.

I've used this thread here twice and it's worked both times. I never had to downgrade and didn't need a fastboot cable.

Drop it right on the root of your internal storage. Just the same as an mp3 or picture, drag and drop.

Technically, you can drop it where you want outside of the system folder. Dropping it into the storage as a whole (not a folder) makes it easier to find. To find the rom, you'll just scroll strait down to it while in TWRP.
Got it done guys works and looks great ! Thank you for all your help! !

CWM flashable stock?

Does anyone know where I could find a stock ROM for my HD+? I can't find one in the dev section. I could live with an unrooted version and then root it again.

Downloaded just fine for me. Not sure the best way to utilize it, I'm simply providing the download.
Link is for real fixed now.

You could manually install it from SD card, but you'd have to be stock. I think I'll give it a shot and give up Cataclysm for a few days to check out the new camera fixes.

Yes, but the process is the same. You can also do it from the SD card: http://www.technostall.com/nexus-7-android-43-update/
Perfect option if you don't have a computer with you.
Can we do this in twrp sideload?

Need to have stock recovery? I'm on stock, but not stock recovery.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
You don't have to have stock recovery. I've got TWRP and it flashed just fine. Put the zip on your SD. Boot into TWRP/CWM, flash as you would any other zip.
BUT, you WILL lose root.
*edit* I should also add that other than TWRP and root, I was completely stock.
Cool! Did you lose user data?

Did you try flashing SuperSU to see if root can be achieved on this new image?

I'm about to give that a shot. Flashing over stock + root immediately followed by superSU 1.65
Worked perfectly.
