[CSC Features] Enable Secret CSC Features on Note 10.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development

From the Samsung GALAXY Note 2 CSC Features thread!
Add features on your GALAXY Note 10.1 just by modifying the system/csc/others.xml file! Lot's of possible features.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z7fr99ym56xz851/M4rc_k5Q7N/unconfirmed_CscFeatures.txt
I can confirm this works with the Galaxy Note 10.1. Very handy! By the way, I don't have the features.xml file but the others.xml file works fine. I'm on JB 4.1.1.
I found a rather nice tweak here, it adds a feature where the device will require a PIN (lock screen code) to factory reset the device using the Settings app.
Not sure which code, just add the two.
PIN confirmation on factory reset
Code:
<CscFeature_Setting_EnableFactoryResetPasswordWhenNoSIM>true</CscFeature_Setting_EnableFactoryResetPasswordWhenNoSIM>
This one seems to add the option called Factory data reset password (Set up/change password) under Settings > Security, although I still can't figure the real use of that. I tried setting a code in there and then tried to reset my Note 10.1, it doesn't accept that code. It still needs the lock screen PIN. Can anyone help figure this out?
Code:
<CscFeature_Settings_Reset_Password>true</CscFeature_Settings_Reset_Password>
This is my new edited others.xml file.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

Yeah quite nice opportunity to enable some of the features that are disabled in one regions rom but not others.
Not sure many are relevant for the first 10.1 yet, VIP mode intrigues me, can't see what it does yet.

Yeah, it's on the link on the first post. Some features do not work though, just experiment and see. If you happen to spot an interesting CSC feature, kindly post the code and what it does. =)

[2 May 2013] [APP] WiFi Tether - Eclipse Mod

I have created a modified version of WiFi Tether for Root Users that is available on Google Play Store. I have recompiled it from source and forced device profile to 'passion' so it now works on HTC HD2 out of the box without the need of modifying default settings.
Usage
download attached RAR
enable installation of apps from "Unknown sources" in Settings > Applications
manually install app using file explorer from SD card or push APK to /data/app using ADB
Download

Thank you very much.
It's work very well.
You instal you run and it work with my hd2 and my galaxy tab 10.1 P7500.
No more need setting the app.
Thanks you again
you're welcome
re

i have insert your modded wifi tether in my JB 4.2.2 AOKP/CARBON rom and have test this. your app works well with non problem or mistakes.
great jo my friend.
i have see your github from this app and have see thats you have insert only the passion device? right?
this.device = DEVICE_PASSION; // Overrides: android.os.Build.DEVICE; //NativeTask.getProp("ro.product.device");
the rest is only your sign? right?
many thanks for this great job....
can i work with your wifi tether in my rom´s please ????
pixelfreak
Yes, that is the trick. Also I have altered app name and raised version number so it will never get overriden from Play Store. I left package name the same.
About usin in your ROMs: sure you can use it. I do not prohibit using of my work (like some so-called devs do). I published it to help the community so let it serve you well.

Hi, why no mac spoofing ?
Hi Daekin, i tried to use the app on a s3 i9300 with ldroid rom 4.4.4 installed. Profile was set to Galaxy S3 and setup method to auto, but the starting log always say configuring ap and starting ap failed. All other log entrys are successful. Which profile should I use, or where else could be the problem? Hope you're still here and can help.
Thanks

What is Guardian Rom?
Guardian ROM is a custom android ROM multiple devices. The ROM is completely Open Source and based off of the CM10.1. While this build is stable because it's based on CM10.1 it is a preview so please expect some bugs, & missing features (i.e updater).
What Features does Guardian Rom have?
Kernel is hardened with SecDroid Tweaks.
ROM is patched with and includes OpenPdoird for
permissions management.
Guardian Project apps are pre-installed – These include Orbot (Tor), Gibberbot (Secure IM),
and more.
CSSimple and OStel (https://guardianproject.info/wiki/Ostel) are included as replacements to the
built calling apps. providing encrypted communications.
If encryption is enabled and password is entered wrong 10 times the phone wipes user data.

Coming Soon:
Including support for Deniable Encryption (similar to Truecrypt hidden volumes).
Including GRSecurity for exploit mitigation and more secure phone.
Including SQLCipher to ensure all data is encrypted whenever possible
Including a customer “app store” for our repos.
Different lockscreen pin and Pre-Boot authentication password.
Auto-Prompt for encryption setup on first boot.

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
How to use:
Simply flash the flashable zip through your favorite custom recovery. (TWRP is recommended as it supports encrypted devices). Once flashed you should enable Full Disk Encryption by doing the following (may very depending on device):
Code:
Settings --> Security ---> Password [enter a strong 8-16 char password]
Than
Code:
Settings --> Security ---> Encryption --> Enable Encryption
Downloads:Downloads are over here.
Please verify the downloaded file with the attached GPG signature to ensure is is a legit copy.
GAPPS
Google Apps are NOT included and before you flash them you may want to read this article.
UPDATES:
Since this is a preview I have not had a chance to remove or modify the CM Updater. Please do NOT use it as you will be flashing a stock CM10.1 build and not Guardian Rom. This will be fixed shortly.

I may use SeAndroid. Right now I am focusing on the encryption side of things instead of the exploit mitigation side. That will come later.
Been following your work on sec Droid, this looks like a very very good start! May I know which version of CM that you used for this? Or it is based on the latest repo when you built it.
Thanks!

The next build will have an AOSP 4.2.2 base with Mobiflage built in. Also Lock screen PIN and Pre-Boot PINs are now separated. So you can use a simple 4 digit pin on the lock screen and a 32 character pin at boot.
Also for more security you have to passwords one for the "outer volume" which you use as you daily usage and one as "hidden volume" which is your hidden os. You use the second for anything sensitive. That way if an attacker tries to force you to give up your password you just give up the outer volume (decoy) password. There is no way to prove the hidden volume exists.
Encryption also uses AES-256-XTS now instead of AES-128-CBC. Better key length and protection against watermarking attacks.
EDIT: If anyone wants early access please PM. The build is not ready for prime time as there is no GUI for encryption but can be used as a daily driver.

No, I'm sure you're right. But since he explicitly stated that he won't build an ('unofficial') AOKP version, I'm looking for a way to get in the favor of the securiry modifications without gaving to switch to another ROM. It's just that AOKP has so many cool simplifications compared to CyanogenMod, I'd like to avoid a switch backwards. Maybe he could create an unsupported AOKP version every month? Possible?

Or you could compile your own. Not trying to sound like a d**k but he had already stated numerous times he is only doing Cm base and yet u and others keep saying do this for aokp. There is a reason he is using cm as a base.

Yes. I custom kernel is needed at the very least. Not to mention removal of Google Apps and tweaked UI for encryption (mobiflage). All of these are OS level tweaks and cannot be made into a ZIP.

This. AOKP will NOT be supported. EVER. If anyone wants a different base download the source code from my github and compile it yourself. Build documentation is on there. Furthermore AOKP and CM10.1 are both great roms, however there are too many variables. Both have a ton of unneeded binaries and settings. We cannot guarantee security are these builds. We choose CM10.1 because it's fully open source and has fewer complications then AOKP. On NEXUS devices we are using AOSP modified with our security tweaks. On non-nexus we use CM10.1 for now for simplicity.
I am hoping with the recent Google Edition devices it will be easier to port/compile AOSP onto those devices.
TL;DR:
WE WILL NEVER OFFICIALLY SUPPORT AOKP.
Thanks for understanding.This message is only meant to stop these requests, not to be rude so please don't take it that way.

We are working toward this. The issue we are having is that while 4.3 is latest 5.0 may be just around the corner. We don't want invest a ton of effort just to have re-port everything to 5.0 if it's released 2-3 months from now. That's not to say 4.3 won't happen. It's just we are focusing on adding more security. For now stable is 4.2.2.:good:

[APP][ROOT] OnePlusTouchFix - Configurable vibration

This app has been heavily inspired by SabrWolfs [APP][ROOT] Touch screen fixer.
The app is supposed to at least temporarily improve the touch on the Oneplus one, making the device usable. I can't guarantee that it works for you, but it makes a big difference for me.
The app requires root, and executes the shell command cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test every time the screen is turned on. It is not based on Tasker, but implemented as an ordinary app. The difference compared to Touch screen fixer, and the reason I made this app, is that the vibration is configurable. I initially implemented this app to be able to deactivate the vibration entirely, but since it actually takes a second or two to run the command and get touch working again, I found that I actually prefer a very brief vibration as feedback that the device is ready for use.
As usual with root apps, don’t forget to grant the app root access the first time it is started, otherwise it won’t work.
And as always, I can't take any responsibility if this app makes your house to burn down, your car to explode or your phone to overheat
Edit:
Here is the complete code:
https://github.com/jaqob/OnePlusTouchFix
It was not really intended to be shared, so be gentle
Allot of users have been helped by flashing a different ROM, so it's kind of ROM related I guess.
Therefor it might be best to tell people which ROM you are using.

Could anybody explain why cat-ting a file (i.e. just read a file content) can fix some issue?
May I see the source code of this apk?

Though i had some problem in cyanogenmod nightlies so reverted back to stock oxygenated n os

The relevant part really just looks like this
Code:
public static int runTouchFixCommand()
{
int result = -1;
try {
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"su","-c","cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test"});
result = p.waitFor();
} catch (IOException | InterruptedException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return result;
}
The key here is that it is the /sys folder. It is not an ordinary filesystem but a virtual one used to communicate with different attached devices, in this case the synaptic touch driver.
See wikipedia for some further details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard#FHS_compliance
If I understand things correctly, reading baseline_test will run this code:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...s/input/touchscreen/synaptics_dsx_i2c.c#L1780
Which near the end does this "//step 5:reset touchpanel and reconfig the device".
Or it may just be magic
Edit:
Here is the complete code:
https://github.com/jaqob/OnePlusTouchFix
It was not really intended to be shared, so be gentle
Definitely works very well. I was using SabrWolf fix before this, thanks for the additional vibration duration option.
Unfortunately this app seems to be needed for CM12.1 as well. Fortunately it still works

I haven't tested any CAF build (perhaps I should), but in the sultanxda case, I would guess this line in the description is to blame "Rewrote half of the Synaptics touchscreen driver (over 2500 lines of code modified; your touchscreen might work better)". The function my small app relies on (synaptics_rmi4_baseline_data in synaptics_dsx_i2c.c) is removed. So I'm afraid I can't get it to work there.

features within the file I added the part that you indicated to me but the same does not work.
The file name should be 'feature.xml' not 'features.xml'.
If that is not the problem, then I don't know it either.
Do note that when it's activated you don't have the A-Z option anymore in the app drawer; it will automatically put all your apps alphabetically. Also when you delete or add an app it will do that automatically.
Unfortunately it does not work
Friends possible that having installed a ROM for s6 and making all the changes I had no problem except with the automatic alignment of applications. csc is written in the words that should do what I requested. but nothing. can I do something missing.

One thing I did notice so far is the lack of contact info in dialer, when.one of my contacts calls I only see the number instead of the name

Does the microphone work to make more than one call without restarting the device?
