HD/HD+ as retro gaming platform? - Nook HD, HD+ Accessories

I felt like playing some older games and thinking about maybe buying a game controller and some emulator for the older NES & SNES. Anyone have experience on both the emulator and/or the controller. Which to buy? I was hoping something not too big for the controller, but I want to make sure it's future proof and maybe to run something like older PS1 game also. Aside from gaming on the HD+, I may want to hook up to my Galaxy Note II and play on that instead. Depending on the occasion.

If it's older than ps1 then I advice just buying a wii controller, they work great with old games, lol super mario bros. (original.) You can install an app which lets you communicate with the remote and use it to control the nook (when your in a game it'll control the game itself, not the nook) , all you need is root and google play store.
Just look up wii controller, there's dozens of em.
As well as that, you can download an app to use either your nook, or your galaxy note II as a controller itself, though it does use wifi and will have a minor delay. (annoying, I know.)
Or you could buy a Bluetooth controller, works with IOS and Android. they range from 20 bucks to 80. be careful which you pick, because each game requires a set of buttons. and some controllers wont have them. (the 80 buck ones come with all your needs.)

I wonder if the new wii u pro controller will work. but i've had excellent luck with both a dualshock 3 and a wiimote with pro controller (no root required for that one). you might just want to grab the MOGA controllers since they're widely supported for android already AND have a built in holder for you smartphone that supports the newer large screen phones. i realize this is an OLD post but there has been plenty of headway made on this front.

ps2 games on the samsung galaxy s devices

we know that there is a psx4droid emulator for playstation games to be played on android phones, but do you think the samsung galaxy s devices possess enough cpu/gpu power to play some ps2 games?

I do believe they have the power to process ps2 games, but have fun getting an emulator to run the games correctly.
It would be fun to use a ps3 dualshock via bluetooth with mah phone
General Forums.
Can sony even have proper playback compatabiltiy with ps2 games on the ps3 with out the emotion engine? u answer that and solve the problem sony might even higher u for their next firmware release
Sorry, but probably will never happen. Ok, I know ya have gpu, and cortex and blahblah, but ps2 games needs a completely different environment to run. One of my friends has got a 2GHz Intel dualcore cpu with gpu video card and they even run laggy. Just to let you know
No. The psx4droid is running older games and it can just barely be playable on some phones. You would have to a) write the best emulator ever in the world or just wait until the hardware is fast enough for it

Unfortunately the lag comes from coding not hardware so you would really just need a team.of devs. Your better off hoping for well developed mobile games lol. The quake 3 port was cool though. I wonder if more of that can happen
No offense, but that is a slowass comp lol.

While the SGX540 is a great GPU for a mobile device, it's still not a 16 pipeline part with 48GB/s memory bandwidth. The SGX540 has a max memory bandwidth of 4.2GB/s with only 4 pipelines. Memory bandwidth aside, I'm sure that it could handle PS2 games in some respect... though even then it would still stutter pretty bad. Memory bandwidth kills the idea.
ah, i see. thanks for putting that into perspective. I guess that it will take time for technology to develop even further on these phones
I do not think that we will ever see PS2 emulated in software on a Galaxy S Phone. The PS2 has one of the most difficult setups to emulate with multiple processors running in tandem at different frequencies. Even the PS3 had to have some or all of the chips on board in order to have the ability to run PS3 games. Once Sony decided to remove those chips as a cost cutting measure, bye bye backwards compatibility. If Sony can't do it, what makes you think a bunch of hackers can.
That would be awesome, but batter life would last for about 8 min...

USB Host mode and Gamepads for Optimus 2x

Any chance that we could use a real gamepad on the optimus 2x?
You can use so many emus and the virtual gamepad just sucks .
I agree, thats why I was asking about Wii conroller compatibility few days ago, some android phones are working with it already
The wii controller works great on cm7 use it a lot I connect my o2x to the projector and leave it on the sofa and use the wii controller to play emus
PCE emu thats really the best to control it has built in wii controller support so you don't need to use the touchscreen at all to select games and stuff.

Best emulators?

Can anyone recommend the best emulators out there for SNES, N64 and PS1 games?

Well I know that for the most part n64 emulators arent really any good because of the roms, but I use n64oid. look for it online not the marketplace.
This might be the droid you are looking for. (scroll down bit in the first post) Also, this should generally go into Q&A.
Mupen64 seems to work well with OoT

FPse for PS1
Snesdroid, N64oid, and FPse.
My favorite is Neodroid though. The neo Geo games look great. I have the latest Metal Slug Games and all the fighting games. The roms don't take up much room either. Unlike PlayStation roms. Try downloading a few PlayStation roms into your nexus and watch your storage space disappear. No matter the size version you got. I keep a few classics, like Einhander, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Final Doom. I also use to have Strider and X-Men vs. Streetfighter and Bloody roar 2 or 3. Got rid of them to make room on prime. FPse is best PlayStation emulator. Allows you to use the open gl plugin which will dramatically increase the graphics quality of a ton of games. Like Einhander for example. It looks decent by itself but kinda pixelated on certain things. Add and enable the plugin and it looks better than even the original PlayStation version. Everything very crisp n sharp.

i bought an iPega controller from China that works perfectly fine with Dead Trigger, Shadowgun Deadzone, and some emulators. It has an issue with GTA VC though.

Favourite games console

It can be as old as the atari to as new as the PlayStation. It can be Portable or Home console!
A high end gaming desktop pc is the ultimate gaming machine hands down. They're also much more flexible and practical than any gaming console.
I used to love Atari tho
Yeah ME to i'm on steam. I forgot to really mention pc tbh i should of really put gaming SYSTEM XD
I love the hell out of my new 3dsxl since it can play every 3ds, ds, and homebrew emulators on the go.
Love my pc tho for sho tho 2 doh! 1080gtx take my money!

Who needs console when you have PC
PCMR always :good:
I've been gaming for a long time. So I really dont' have a favorite game console. I have:
playstaion2/3/4/psp
xbox/360/1
Gamecube/wii
PC
For each major console, I mostly the big flagship titles. For Sony: God of war, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto, street fighter 5
For xbox: Halo Master Chief Collection and halo 5, Gears of war
For Wii: Smash Brothers Brawl
PC, I don't really play that much anymore. I used to play a lot of FPS 10 years ago: Counter Strike Source, Half life 2, Far Cry, Rainbow 6 Vegas and Watchdogs.
But If I had to pick one console that I play the most on, honestly it will have to be XBOX 1. I put in A TON of hours of halo multiplayer. A close second place would be my ps4. Cause I also put in A TON of hours in MGS 5 Phantom pain.
I don't really like the PC solution. You have to upgrade the GPU over time, and drivers constantly (DOOM players anyone?).
Plus you can't just sit on your couch and game on your TV, I know you can do bluetooth controllers and HDMI out etc, but it's still a big pain.
I've got an X1 and Wii U, and honestly I think the Wii U is the best thing ever. you cannot get the Zelda games, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario games, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, etc. on any other console or PC.
No matter what I think console will always be better than PC because you don't have to mess with drivers and settings, and its simplicity.
That sounds cool!

Good argument, I have pc because i can play them and i like them. But i also have ps4, 2 and 1 which i love for the simplicity and just sitting on the sofa XD
My all time favourite is Nintendo. It was the only console I was playing when I was a kid.
Nintendo Wii... I can play NES, SNES, CUBE, MAME, PSONE, SEGA Games & more on my modified Wii. I can also play music & watch dvds. Its also acts as my server. Amazing Console ?

PC all the time!
There are so many great gaming consoles, for the nostalgia tho I'd say, it's the Super Nintendo followed by Dreamcast and GameCube.
Otherwise of course, PCs (desktops, no fancy laptops) beat anything.
SEGA MegaDrive / Genesis & PSX

I am a nintendo guy and always loved nintendo consoles. For everything else a PC
I'm playing mostly on PC and some games on PS4.
Nintendo fanboy, all the way back to the NES.
It's a close race between the SNES and the PS1, and I have no clue which one comes out on top.
PCMR bruhhh :good:
Fav game MW2 for sure
PC of course but sometimes PS4 for the exclusive
