I received a 64GB Kingston Wi-Drive for Christmas. I was a little bummed that it didn't support NTFS (if using the wireless) but have discovered other uses for the drive.
Some people have complained that you can't use it with media libraries like XBMC, but you can.
Click "Add Videos..." -> On the "Add Video Source" pop-up Click "Browse" -> Choose "Add network location..." -> Choose "Web server directory (HTTP)" as the protocol and enter "192.168.200.254" as the "Server Address" (if connected directly to the Wi-Drive... If your Wi-Drive is bridging your home wireless connection you can use the IP your router assigned to the Wi-Drive). -> Click "Done" -> Click "OK" -> Choose the newly added location: "http://192.168.200.254:80" and click "OK" -> Enter a name for the media Source and then click "OK".
You can then choose a Content Scraper based on the content.

Astro and ES File Explorer just support Samba and FTP... not HTTP. The Wi-Drive app is basically just a file manager itself. You can open files individually using whatever default media player you want. But since the storage is not mounted, you can't index you media in a library, unless you do something like I did with XBMC.
Thanks for that, I've been thinking about getting one myself purely for file storage and was hoping it would be easy access via a file manager.

You can also open files by just going to the web page (http://192.168.200.254) in Chrome. Kingston is using apache and WebDAV for hosting the content on the drive. I'm going to look into the webserver portion to see if I can add support for other protocols.
I've also put in a support request with both Metago (Astro) and EStrongs (ES File Explorer)

Kind of a similar setup. I have a Tmobile sonic hotspot that allows you to put a micro in it, and you can access files over a webui. I've ordered a card, but does it seem feasible this might work?
I wouldn't consider ordering the card a waste regardless, but it would be nice, seeing how my n7 lacks the basic ports, and otg cables are an annoyance.

This is pretty easy!
Download on your computer:

On Your Nook:
Dropbox (in market)
In Calibre
-Connect Share > Connect to Folder > Select a dropbox folder
That's about it, now you can send to device and have your book pushed to your Nook.
I am trying to set this up the way you described. When i open calibre and set up the folder it takes it. Then i select a book and tell it to go to the folder. It brings up a window and asksbwhat folder in side of drop box. The only thing that gets pushed is a meta data file. When i go back into calibre the option is now greyed out.. any ideas???

To get the file to actually appear in the dropbox folder on the nook you have to actually open it and then you can import into aldiko or move it to where your ebooks are stored.

To me its easier to just use ES File Explorer
Touch LAN and my PC address touch my Calibre folder copy and then paste to my Nook library
I use CIFSManager to share the Calibre drive, then point Aldiko or whatever reader to the share.
Another way is to start Calibre's web server, then point the web browser to PC's IP address. This has the advantage of allowing you to see the book description, in addition to sorting by various methods. The disadvantage is that the web layout is poor (at least for mobile browsers; it's OK on desktop browsers).
Yet another way is to pay the $3 to get the Calibre Library app. It's more compact, but it doesn't allow browsing.

Not quite the same level of control...all files get stored in a folder called "drop". You then need to move these to whatever folder you want.
I prefer being able to choose where the files get sent. Thanks for the app link though...it is a very quick setup and simple if you are using another computer for a quick file transfer.
I am using an app called WebDroid. It works perfectly and lets you browse through every folder on your phone via wifi in a web browser.

Websharing is another app that works the exact same way.
Why not just use dropbox? This seems much more labor intensive to setup.
Astro file server also has an SMB Plugin for those of you running a samba file share system. I store all of my files on my linux file server anyway. For those times when I'm out of range of my wifi, I'll use an ftp client on my phone and log on to my ftp server. I also use dropbox. It all depends where the file is, where I am, and where the phone is.
I also love double twists new airless sync. That works just fine with my iTunes library.

That's what I use and I don't think it could be easier. Just setup a username and password one time. Any time after that you just start the ftp server and type the address into a file browser on your computer.

Seriously, just use Dropbox. I'm sure everyone uses Dropbox for other purposes anyways. Why not just download the DB client for Android and give it another use?

Dropbox is awesome and I do use it, but if you want to place files directly on your root or access files above root for modding purposes, this method is great.
To each his own I guess.
If you're running an i9000 ROM try Kies Air in the Samsung Apps store. it does the same thing and it works over Mobile AP or Wifi

Is it possible to post a quick "how to" or shoot me a PM?
I use ES File Explorer and love it and was unaware of the feature.
Their website isn't very helpful (the English version anyways) with no stickies on how to configure.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm currently using the ftp version the OP posted, but it's a bit buggy and temper-mental for me.
I used to use ES File Explorer but now use File Expert. It's all in one and has a few nice features, but the server scan is much slower which I don't use anyway.
You need to know a bit about Windows Printer & File Sharing and have at least 1 folder shared on your PC first.
In ES File Explorer, switch to the Network tab, then Menu -> New, and either scan or add a server. If you scan you'll see your PC's IP address, which can make it easier if you don't know it. Select that and you'll see all the shares. Select the one you want and then you'll need to enter the username and password of your Windows account the first time.
File Expert is a little better because it can remember the user account for that PC for all shares.
Anyway, after that you can copy and paste files back and forth and even play media over wifi, or copy tibu and nandroid backups to the PC just like you would between folders on the phone.
I'd love it if it was the other way around. CIFS share the android root or even sdcard on the PC!
I use Awesome Drop for quick small transfers, otherwise I use the SwiFTP server. FTP just seems like tried and true technology to me.

Hey has anyone found a known working set of software to connect to a WHS box? I've got a media server and I'd like to stream from it to my tablet when I'm around the house.
I've been able to successfully use ES File Explorer to view my network shared folder containing media files. The LAN tab allows you to specify the IP address and folder path of your shared folder.
I am sharing files from a machine running Vista Ultimate, but it should work with any Windows shared folder. I found it necessary to open up the following ports in my Windows firewall though:
137 - TCP Netbios name service
138 - TCP Netbios datagram service
139 - TCP Netbios session service
445 - TCP Active directory
Once I created a connection in ES File Explorer, I can easily navigate to my shared folder and access files. However, when I view .AVI files, they play for about 5 seconds, then I get a prompt stating that the media type cannot be streamed and it begins the process of transferring he file onto the gTablet.
Hope this helps.

Once you properly configure your CIFS mount, You can browse the folder with any file manager, play media, etc.

May largely depend on how your network is setup. Since I have Windows Server, It's also my DNS server for the home/office. Thus, name lookups work well for me.
I suspect most people are using their ISP's DNS, or other public DNS that of course won't know the names on the local network.

TnTL works fine.
If you're using a hardware firewall to both serve out DHCP addresses and proxy DNS, they often are setup so that a DNS request for the name associated with one of the DHCP leases is returned by the proxy.
I'd be wary of opening up those ports on the internet, BTW

I've been setting up "Subsonic" on my WHS box to use. I have the software loaded and setup on the server at this point, plus one of the PC's on my network. Works fine. Today will be testing the Android app on my G Tablet to see how that goes.

Subsonic streams audio + builds playlists perfectly via Gtablet, will need to work on video...
I have been using Tversity on the server and uPnPlay on the Gtab. Works pretty good, but wanted to try out subsonic though.

+2 Subsonic is a great program. Very well done on the Android. I use it locally and on the road.

Astro: Cannot open any files. Get java errors and crashes. But at least I can logon to my domain. Even opening a basic jpg gives a blank screen.
Ghost Commander: Love this, log on to my domain, VERY fast. Can't open files from the LAN though, have to copy to SD first.
Anyone else have a suggested file manager that can do SMB, domains, and open files from the lan?

You can try File Expert free from market.
it works pretty good for me on Gtablet.
Close, but none of my office docs will open directly. First have to download with my browser then open.
Real nice and fast interface though. Did let me logon to domain.
linda is a good explorer, but not sure about the domain log in.

Use 'Cifs manager' to mount any SMB share and view content locally without having to actually transfer it.
EDIT: works for streaming network shared movies, music, reading and editing documents, installing apks, etc.

Is there a way (or an app) to connect my NC to either my Mac Mini (or my PC) via my home wireless network (not USB) in order to transfer files back and forth??? .... hopefully a way to move files locally without using the Internet (i.e. dropbox or similar)

Use ES File Explorer app. This allows you to see and manage all the files on your Nook, and on a networked computer and do ftp transfers as well. Lots of functionality apart from basic file transfers, stable and free.
Yes there is an app call WiFi file explorer it gives an ip address to enter in the browser and then you can send or download files. it works very well I use it in the evo 4G and nook color.
I use ES File Explorer if I am working on the NC but if I am working on the computer I start Samba Filesharring on the NC and do all the manipulation on the computer. It is easier that way since I can see all the thumbnails of pictures so I can select them nd just drag and drop.
+1 for Samba. The SD card just appears as a share on your Windows network and if you check the box to remember your credentials you just have to remember to wake the NC up before you try to connect to it.
Try Dropbox. Easy setup and works a treat.
