And your device is rooted? Did you have running Google Apps? Which GoogleServicesFramework.apk you have installed?

Firefox crashes except for 10.1 and 10.2 but the new firefox nightly works someone on another thread linked this dropbox file https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/fennec-20.0a1.multi.android-arm.apk I tested it and it works
Sent from my KFTT using xda app-developers app

I'm encountered the same problem with FF force closing after opening using version 17.0.
Once my Kindle Fire charges back up I'm going to try the nightly builds and if those don't work going to older releases from mozilla's ftp mobile directory.
Sorry I can't post a direct link - I'm too new.
Current setup is an unrooted KFHD 8.9.
Just looking for browser that will let me tweak an ad blocker and javascript to my liking.
I will let you know if any work.

Installed the current nightly off Mozilla's site - download was called fennec-20.0a1.multi.android-arm.apk - and so far so good even if it feels a bit laggy.

Trying to import bookmarks crashed it for me.

I checked my KFHD but couldn't not find any googleservicesframework.app (looked in /system/app and elsewhere). I tried both releases and nightlies (10, 18 and 19). None of them worked.
My KFHD is a rooted 7" model with the Play Store app installed.
Somewhat off-topic: Why does the Play Store tell me that Chrome is not compatible with my device? Does anybody know what it requires that the KFHD doesn't have without diving into the androidmanifest.xml file of the APK? Thx!

It works fine on the kindle fire. Download the apk from somewhere else and install manually. There are copies all over xda

[Q] [HD+, CM 10.1] Kindle Reader App

After installing the latest CM 10.1 nightly I cannot run the Kindle Reader app. It starts to open and then closes every time. I have cleared cache/data, uninstalled, installed from Amazon App Store, nothing has worked. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?
Snap. Splash screen and spinner, then exit.
Works fine in my stock/10.1 sd hybrid though it seems a bit slow to load books.
I'm getting the same thing on mine. Tried uninstalling, clearing cache, etc., nothing works.
Something different between 0813 and 0817 update. Was working before that update. It is a CM thing I'm guessing. I haven't researched what's happening with other devices.
The latest 10.1 update I see is 0813. That's the one I'm using and the Kindle app doesn't work. Are you saying it works on the 0812 update?

Yes, there is something different. 8/17 is CM10.2 which is known to not work with the Kindle app.

Please look at the build.prop file. I am recalling that a change in device ID was made somewhere that I saw in the changelogs.
Would be strange that the Nook HD cannot run Kindle app and is also supposed to be not compatible with the Nook Reader either (it does work fine with NookR).
Just ran OK on 0819 update NookHD.
But, still doesn't run on the HD+

Are we any closer in getting Kindle working on CM10.2 or even the latest version of 10.1?
For a device which is sold as an e-reader it would be nice to read my Kindle collection on it.
If you need the Kindle app working, it seems the best best is 8/12 10.1 cm as 8/13 is not working as well as the 10.2 cm roms. I am not sure if that has changed.
Kindle app is still not working in 10.2 as of the 8/26 nightly. I've been running the 10.1 8/12 nightly for kindle app and Bluetooth keyboard support.

Still nothing...
Same with the version of 08/27.
On my nook, after installing the new nightly, I can start the Kindle app once, I log in and it imports my books.
After that it crashes while trying to start again.
I'm on CM 10.2 24/08 and its not just Kindle that has this problem but also the Amazon shop app as well. Both these start and then force stop - perhaps the issue is something specific to Amazons set up in their apps??
I have a work around for anyone on the latest CM builds. You will need a browser which has it's useragent set to something other than mobile/tablet/android (I have Dolphin permanently set to Desktop for sites which don't play nicely) and visit https://read.amazon.com/
All your books available with Whisper Sync.

Had the same problem - uninstall and reinstall solved it.
@artesa: Seems only to work with books bought from Amazon - I could not see any of my uploaded documents (i.e. books).
Also no change in today's nightly: Kindle still crashes.

[Q] Amazon App store not staying signed in Nook HD CM 10.1.3RC2

The app store was staying signed in until updated to CM 10.1 rc2 the other night. Not a real big deal, but a pain if I want to use a couple of apps that I got from Amazon, have to sign in to app store & leave it running in order for apps to work.
On a good note I have not had any sudden reboots since updating which is very nice.
Any suggestions on the Amazon app store issue or is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks in advanced

One of the things that was changed in both the nightlies and RC2 is a setting in /system/build.prop called dalvik.vm.heapsize. It was changed to help the Kindle app. It was changed to a value of 402M for the HD+ and 384M for the HD. You can try changing it to 512M to see if that helps.
Edit: I just went back and looked at the prior HD setting and it was at 384M before, so I doubt that is the issue. But it won't hurt to try the new setting.

That fixed it for me. Also Kindle app seems to be fine. I'm not a Kindle app user and just tried various things and they all seemed to work. Maybe if you install with 402m and then set it back to 512m that makes it work ok????

I had the problem with the Amazon appstore not staying logged in with 10.1.3RC2. I reverted to an earlier version (7/12, Unofficial, in my case) without doing a reset (I did wipe cache in CWM). It seems to be back to normal. I also had problems connecting to network shares with BS Player over SMB in the RC2 version. That was fixed by reverting too. I didn't see any other network issues.
Fixed in latest nightley
Looks like the issue has been resolved in the latest 9/8 Nightly :good:

Beginning to think taking care of Amazon app store was not worth it.
Can I just overwrite the rc2 over the nightly I installed?

Barred Kindle Fire HD - How to install ESFile Explorer?

I've got a Kindle Fire HD that is barred from the Amazon Store. There are no "useful" Apps on like ES File Explorer that I need to install GApps Store. It's Rooted but I can't work out how to sideload the File Explorer.
Any tips or links to guides?
Thanks
Just use the web browser and Google aptoid market download the apk install it by simply selecting it then search for es file explorer or any other apps you need. you should also be able to root it and install play store.

Thanks! I've got Aptoide Market and ES File Explorer now. I don't like the Kindle launcher at all and ideally I want to turn it into a Nexus 7, or as close to it as possible, type of device. Any pointers to guides on how to do this? I've installed Nova Launcher from the Aptiode Market but can't figure out how to get it to run.
Thanks.
I run nova launcher as well it has to be made a system app which means you must have a rooted kindle
I believe you just find the file nova launcher apk named Tesla coil something. Apk and move it into your system folder.

Honestly though if I were you i would follow the install second boot loader thread by hashcode in the Dev section and then follow the guide to install. Cm
10.2 in the Dev section that is what your kindle is best suited for though since you don't have a fast boot cable you will have to issue a command to put your kindle in fast boot mode BUT if you goof you'll be ordering or making one for your soft bricked kindle

You can't just flashed things on a tablet. The bootloader is locked and no second bootloader mod is available. Second is TWRP images have to be slightly modified to use on any Kindle in the first place.

I understand that the boot loader is locked, but what holds up a custom, or edited boot loader? I'm experienced in using these software's, but not in their development.
If your asking what I think your asking it's an exploit, the cpu on the kindle is a high security model that checks for a signature on the boot loader, if it isn't signed the kindle won't turn on. We found a way to exploit something amazon missed a while back for the other's and that allowed us to use 2nd boot loader, unfortunately for the newer kindles they were released after that had been patched so we don't have an older version of the boot loader that's compatible with your device that can be exploited. *sarcastically high fives amazon*

Can you explain what the exploit was? I recall flashing the custom boot loader at line 1049 (or something to that affect) in the memory, but what was it that made that possible?
Edit* looking back at the kftt process, I see a stack override was used. I understand that the file was pushed to the sd card, but what did it actually do?

Google Play Store for the 11.1.x.x 2013 Kindle fire HD is for window shopping only. Any attempts to download will freeze the tablet. At this point, the answer to your question is no. You can sideload about any app and make it work though. FDroid and 1mobile are great sites to get the latest apks.

For the Kindle Fire HD 7 a 2nd bootloader had to be flashed. It had to be flashed before 7.3.0 because the next firmware release patched the bootloader. This is why a 7.2.3 bootloader image had to be flashed as well (to make the exploit possible.) Since no exploit exists, at the moment, there is no way to even flash any unsigned files.
Edit* looking back at the kftt process, I see a stack override was used. I understand that the file was pushed to the sd card, but what did it actually do?

The stack override file makes it so you can install unsigned recovery and boot images.
So what about mimicking the file signature?
Sent from my KFSOWI using xda app-developers app
That would be very difficult to do, and also very expensive considering how many hard bricks it would probably make. I mean I suppose if someone with the know how analyzed several bootloaders for all the devices that have signed boot loaders that are omap based we might be able to get a better idea of what the signature is that is added to the file to replicate, but no one seems to have done that, probably because its immensely difficult I would imagine. I kinda compare it to making a keygen for a program that spits out a random code and asks for the code that goes with it. Though I'm assuming way more difficult.

Google Play Books?

Can someone point me in the right direction please? I'm looking for info regarding installing Google Play Books on my wife's Gen 3 KFire HD operating Fire OS 4.5.5.1

Go to your computer, Google root junky supertool and download it, make sure adb is enabled on the kindle, plug it in, unzip the supertool and run the batch program, wait a bit, and then you will see a bunch of options, it should be option 3 or 4. Follow the super tools instructions, and let it do its thing, and then your tablet should reboot with Gapps installed. This works with or without root. From this point you can install the play books app.
