that is exactly my problem....there are loads of guides...I was merely asking for the best one for my ROM.

There are odin flashable leaks on Sammobile and android dev section and general section. This can be flashed without the need of root.

Need help figuring out which ROM I have

Ok, so I know just enough to get myself into trouble. I've looked at multiple ROMs on this site and installed a couple different ones. I can't keep of track which one I installed most recently. Can someone please help me figure it out, if possible, from the attached screen shot?
I'd like to know which ROM it is and if there is a newer version of the same ROM that I could flash?
Please help!
Thanks!
You're running what is now Team Nyx ICS. Backup and wipe data before flashing. There is a new version out.

So, you're talking about the one located here:
http://team-nyx.com/index.php/releases
Right?
It would seem that there has only been one update since the ROM installed. Not sure I can tell if there are any useful updates in the newer ROM.
There are so many ROMs out there. How is anyone supposed to figure out which one is the best one?
Thanks for the reply!

Questions never belong in Development. Ever.
Sorry, thought since it was a question about a ROM and not stock stuff, it was more like a development question. Sorry about the wrong placement, but please know that I did consider my placement, just got it wrong..
Thanks for keeping things organized!

[Q] upgrade galaxy note (n7000) to Jelly Bean?

As per the title, I'm wondering if this is now possible? I've checked via settings => update - but it says no update available.
- Is this update now available?
- If so, does it only apply to phones that are rooted? How do I go about getting the phone rooted?
This should be q&a, report yourself.
There is a leaked version out called ls7 or ls2,both available to download in development section. As they're leaks, you'll need to be rooted, follow drive ketans thread on rooting, easiest way is to install philz kernel via stock recovery.
Don't post questions in general, it's possible they'll just be closed.

Or he stopped reading after the phrase he quoted ofcourse...
He needs to read a LOT. spoonfeeding the procedure is dangerous if he is not even reading the replies.

Back up the bus people. You originally posted this;
"This should be q&a, report yourself."
Clearly, you came back and edited your post later. I thank you for that - but people, ease up on the assumptions and judgements. I never asked for spoonfeeding from anyone!
Is there a likelihood that this upgrade will be officially supported at some stage?

You are correct, I did only post that originally because usually posts are closed immediately in general, but I edited way before you replied, pretty much straight after, certainly not after 3 days that it took for your response.

Yes available as a leak.
The update is not official till at least December.
That is why you couldn't see a new JB update from Software Update (OTA).

You need not necessarily be rooted to install JB.
You can flash XXLS2, the earliest leak available from Odin 3.04 (The ROM flasher for Sammy phones)
XXLS7 is known to be unsoundly slow. It's probably not optimised yet from Sammy's side.
However the infamous Multi-window feature is available on XXLS7.
If you really want the latest and greatest aka XXLS7 with all the bells and whistles,
you need to be rooted. As for that, do your own research. :victory:

I assume you mean XXLS7 from leak, not XXLS7 cooked by xda devs. Because the last one is actually faster than XXLS2, and battery life better. No match.
@livebyte : Thanks for taking the time out for your comprehensive post. I think I will hold off and wait for the official update. That was what I was referring to when I posted initially. I appreciate that there are alternative roms available - but if the official becomes available sometime this month, then I guess that's the path of least resistance.

Mods please change the Q&A title font to 72, so people like this know the difference, also a big blinking pink arrow will be nice too! Come on, why post these stupid questions under general? You will get more attention under Q&A, also, many people has this question, and were answered. Flash Philz kernel if you want Root+Custom Recovery, or burn your phone into a microwave, maybe it come back to rooted gingerbread. Good luck. Sorry my bad english.

Hi there.
I am keen to root my phone but am a newbie to the whole experience.
Could anyone direct me to the exact instructions required to root my N7000 (see detail attached)
Cheers, adam

You got already answers in your first thread four days ago related to the same question.
Why don't you follow the hints and given links to tutorial there?
And in April the same before.
And then one year ago in April 2012 again. And of course you made two threads even then.
Having fun with this method?

It's not a big brother, I'm right now trying to get slim again.
I got used to look into older postings of a member when he asks a question. Sometimes you'll get the necessary details from his older posts.
Example: why searching for a mistake in a Rom when someone whines about freezes when a post before he wrote that he OC'ed his Kernel to 1600?
But in this case I acted like a BB after seeing the repeated orgy: it was even fun to answer him with his own history.
By the way: he got the Dr. Ketan link already in 2012...
Clearly I'm asking these questions again because I didn't have any success rooting the 1st time round.
As for orgies?!? Maybe opening the door and breathing some air would help remind you there's a big world outside with lots going on.
I was looking for some help delivered to me in a beginner's language I understand, not grandiose frustration that I had the idiocy to ask the same questions

Since April 2012 members gave you the links to the tutorials all members used here. Most of them were beginners.
And if you didn't understand it after one year of trying you should consider not trying to root your device at all.
You might end in a bricked one.
For the record, I haven't been trying for a year, I tried twice.......(once managed to root but had problems afterwards, once, stopped trying as it became frustrating)
Maybe you should stop acting out your insecurities about yourself in a faceless blog and find peace with who you are

Look, in order to beeing able to help you it would be nice to tell us what rom you have got on your Note.
Starting with ICS (4.0.4) rooting is very simple. Just take a look in the settings what rom you have got and then head over to the PhilZ kernel thread in Original development. There you will find rooted kernels for all stock (Original) ICS or above roms. Dowmload the one matching your rom (choose the .zip version, not .tar). Then boot into stock recovery (press volume up, home and power buttons simultaneously) and flash the kernel. Bang, you got root. Not really difficult. What the hell have you been doing? I guess until today you have not really bothered reading the tutorials and threads. Because everything is explained there and all of us had start too by reading a lot. Good luck.

You can get your hands on some of the custom ROMs, and flash them. But be sure to carefully read the thread of the ROM like what recovery is safe to flash it,etc. Also remember to wipe data, factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache before you flash a ROM. Enjoy!

[Q] Can i upload my htc vivid?

Hi everyone im new in this site and i was wondering if you could tell me if it was possible for my HTC vivi 4.0.3( ice cream sanwich) to be uploaded to the jelly bean, im asking because one friend told me that it was impossible with my phone and that i was able to get a brick because this model wasn´t able to update,
Officially - no you can't because HTC don't give a damn about this phone anymore.
Unofficially - yes, but it comes at a cost of bugs, knowing how to unlock your bootloader etc.

First, read and know what you are doing ( rooting, unlocking bootloader ) and make sure you know how to flash, nandroid with a cutsom recovery and please refer to the superguide for more info. I would advise this as long as you know what you are doing. It is near impossible to brick an Android permanatnly

Weird cuz I have no issues with either on stock ics.
Anyways, maybe after you read a lot and watch a few videos on YouTube on flashing roms etc, you can try that borked rom. I personally haven't flashed any rom so I can't say what its like. I do know a lot of custom roms have a low in call volume, which is the main reason why I'm still on stock ics.
I've unlocked my bootloader, rooted my phone, removed a ton and I mean a ton of useless to me apps and currently have a ton frozen in testing. My phone flys!
Good luck!

Emphasis on MUST
You need to know how to undo the bootloops you are going to get...
