This is pretty cool and I was actually just thinking of rigging up something similar because my Otterbox Defender case just got here today. Does the silicone outer layer fit over the battery smoothly without modification? Can you post a picture of it all put together?
I'm also a little curious what picture 6 of 7 is showing. Just how much modification did you do to the phone?

Yeah I'd like more info regarding that 6 of 7 pic as well
I'd almost be willing to send my case away and pay for a mod like this

OK will post pictures when done tomorrow. a slight bump when silicone attached, it grips on the front really well much solid feel to it!

How did you line that up properly to cut the square out? Can I assume you used a dremel?
I'd like to replicate this

Great mod and idea, other than the use of an otterbox and Mugen being expensive. Would like to see this done with a ballistic case and an anker extended battery.
Once again, great job.:good:

Thanks
Thanks for the comments guys. heres the pictures of it with the silicone skin on! A you can see there is not that much of a bump protruding from the back of the Otterbox case.
This is the ultimate combination for the note 2, as it has the Mugen battery actually installed in the best protective case.

How much bulk does the otterbox case actually add to the phone?

this is AWESOME!!!!! im doing it

What type of stats are you getting out of your battery? I'm buying both in a couple weeks.
DONTTAKETIMETOREADTHISITWILLONLYPISSYOUOFF

did you cut the actual OEM back cover as well as the otterbox hard back piece?
x2 on battery stats, the stock battery is awesome but im always down for an extended, and i hear Mugen makes great batteries.

The Mugen battery on the 4th charge after initializing was 4 days and 14 hours till I reached 9% absolutely awesome!
I did cut the rear cover as I had a spare one when I ordered a spare rear casing after my note 2 got a tiny scratch on the edge when it fell out of the windscreen holder when I hit a pot hole! I know I'm anal when it comes to my gadgets lol. I could do this for a small fee as I have a template made already. and the proper cutting tools in my workshop at work.
The phone does get a little bit heavy, but you soon get used to it after a few hours. I think the protection and battery life are worth the sacrifice, not to mention the wow factor.
I was thinking to put a little stub antenna on the back as I miss this on the new phones,

Just when I thought I was finally done buying accessories for this phone...

I'm actually super impressed by the ingenuity of the GNII community. Between this and the flip cover case mod (and all the existing cases/combos) there are just so many awesome setups that work great as daily drivers or alternate setups for extended use/abuse. Now if only someone threw a flygrip on this haha

Love the Ottobox/Big battery idea!

I will most def be doing this. lol
is there anything "holding" the actual battery down other than the rubber part of the otterbox? for example how the stock battery is held down by the stock back cover pressing against it.

Really cool mod, by the way. Does your Note with modified Defender case still fit face first into the Defender's belt clip? Thanks!

This is awesome. Did you mod case for NFC?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium

Hi, Yes the case fits the holster as it normally does, and the NFC antenna is still in situ!
I got the idea from my early XDA years on here when the XDA1 had the big battery that attached to the back of the phone with 2 thumb screws to secure it to the phone. and the shark fin antenna! must not forget the signal status LED also! Ohh those were the days
http://www.gbheld.com/upload/63cd2a3f.jpg

Just wanted to say thanks great idea! My phone dropped out of my sweater pocket and hit the stairs right on the corner inside a bumper case. And to my sadness the scree spider cracked threw. Ordered otterbox defender, new screen, replacment phone, and anker 6200 batt right away. Checked the verizon website and still says clean esn to my surprise. Once its done going to put it up for sale to recuperate my costs. Did this mod with a box cutter power drill with a phillip screw bit and a nail file and it came out pretty good. Only difference is that I put stickers on the edges around the power and volume buttons so the phone stays centered and the buttons work perfect. Super happy now.

OtterBox Commuter Case

Nice case. I liked my BG case, but the tabs keep wearing down. After the 3rd replacement, I went naked again.
Thanks for the pictures! I want to buy a case for my Milestone, but I'm not sure which one to go with..
I hear Seidio and InvisibleShield are not bad either, would you have any experience with them?
About the Otterbox, does it add much bulk to the device? I like the size of my phone as it is, but I don't know if I'd like it a lot bigger. And how is the feel of the case?
Also, does the Otterbox come with a screen protector? How good is it?
Thanks for your time!
otterbox adds some bulk, but the protection is worth it... really. it IS a little slippery compared to the naked phone, but otherwise I don't have any complaints. hear good things about the Seidio too.
as far as screen protectors go, the one that comes with the case sucks. pick up a pack of these instead. Got the anti-glare ones (hatehateHATE cleaning fingerprints off of my screen all the time), and its been great so far.
screenguardz.com/screenguardz-motorola-droid-cases-screen-protectors-covers-shields-skins-films.html
I did have a I.Shield on my Milestone. I didnt like it. Personally, I like a bulky heavy phone so the combo Otterbox/milestone is perfect (My HTC Touch Pro2 is bigger). I have a Brando SP on my Milestone.
I have the otterbox commuter for my Droid and the bulk isn't too horrible, but the top-right-hand corner of the case doesn't like to stay put on the phone (e.g; It's loose). This is the second replacement, so I'm sure it's a common issue.
I've used both otterbox and seidio as well as some generic branded ones and have to say Seidio feels much lighter. Comparing the protection I'd have to go otterbox as on the inside of the case there is a layer of cushion so I guess that would protect it more. With that said I have dropped my phone with seidio on carpet and it was fine. I'm not using a case atm I find that any case will add too much unnecessary bulk.
I too am using the Otterbox Commuter Case, and it works well for me. It does add a little bit of bulk, but I don't find it to be too bad in exchange for the level of protection it gives.
I had the Otterbox on my Milestone until the top ring broke.
Called Otterbox and they said that it's a design flaw and offered me a new case (they said it will brake eventually) or a full refund. I took the refund.
I'm glad they have great customer service and take care of problems.

I strongly agree with this. My top ring broke as well and I put a call in to Otterbox. The customer service is excellent and had a free replacement in under 1 week. I am impressed...
I usually like Otterbox cases but this one isn't one to go with. It's badly made, not like the other ones

Regretfully, I must agree with you. The replacement I got from Otterbox fared little better than my first one. The weak link is the "ring" around the screen. It breaks far too easily.
Otterbox has usually made decent cases, but not in this case.
I've gone with the Zagg shield instead. I would have preferred the Otterbox, but what can one do...
Anybody got first hand experience of Otterbox protecting your milestone?
I use the otterbox too. Except the size increase the protection really worth it.

Sure do!
I use one on my milestone, I've dropped it a few times, and although the case itself has cracked etc, the phone doesn't have a scratch on it.
my top ring broke in the first day, replaced it with one from a cheap ebay case, and its been going strong since then.
Also cracked the plastic of the main case, but it was a doddle to fix with some aryldite (I think that's how its spelt), as there is an outer case and an inner soft silicone case. It doesnt look pretty but works well.
I'll post some pics if anyones interested.

do you think i wil be able to ahev my extended bettery on with the case?
I've got this case on my phone right now and can give my 2 cents on it....
It's a beautiful case. Offers great protection against drops but definitely adds bulk. It also increases temperatures a bit on the high end of the scale. ie: if your phone is at 38 degrees with no case, it will be at 40 degrees with this case. but at the lower end, say 30 degrees, you won't notice a difference between case vs no case.
the plastic ring surrounding the screen broke 6 days into my owning the case! I was REALLY disappointed. But then my seidio innocase had the same thing happen.
After a few weeks, the case began to warp in one corner a bit. The heat from the battery getting too hot seemingly is deforming the case!! It's not major, but it is definitely there.

NO, you won't. If you want a good case for an extended battery get the Seidio innocase specifically meant for extended battery.
Overall I'm actually happy with the case despite the problems I mentioned. I feel that if I should drop it, even without that plastic ring surrounding the screen, the phone will survive.
But would I buy it again? No
I was happier with my seidio. Unfortunately I did drop the phone, and the case did break...but the phone was absolutely fine.
http://www.seidioonline.com/category-s/3898.htm
I just installed an otterbox DEFENDER series case on my fiance's ipod touch, and THAT is a phenomenal case. Totally different species than what they offer for our droids/milestones. Too bad they can't make one for us
I have had the seidio innocase on my milestone for a year now and I love it. Dropped my phone a couple of times, but no problem. Still going strong.

ANY cases for Extended batteries?

I have the extended battery, and cant find a case ANYWHERE... Anyone know of anything?
That is a good question.. i have not seen anything offical other than seidio having cases for their extended batteries(still in development according to website.
Looks like walmart or a mall kiosk for a pouch as a temp fix to this case problem....
I used a razor blade to cut my soft case to fit my 3500 battery. Looks pretty good. I will never go back to using the stick battery.

It works for their extended battery or for the stock battery. I have been using one since it came out and also for years on my xv6800... I am VERY happy with their products so far.
Normal caveats... YMMV, IMHO, yadda yadda yadda

I took a razor blade to the Amzer Silicon case I have used before with the stock battery. The battery door sticks out a little. Cheap solution until there is actual products on the market...I think I paid $10 including shipping from ebay. I am sure you can mod any other stock case with a cutout so the battery can extend, but that is up to you... I figured the price I paid vs the use I got from it evened out

And for added protection stick one of these on the back of the battery door
http://web.grfxpstore.com/store/product/885036599
They come in all sorts of colors and designs
You can mod cases for the humpback door designs, but not the fatty doors all of the lower cost, eBay extended bats ship with.
I am wondering if I would have any luck buying a cheapo silicone and a cheapo hard case from Amazon or eBay, cutting the backs out of both of them for the extended battery, and putting them both on so it would be kind of like an Otterbox. Is that feasible or should I just buy the Otterbox and mod it (I figured the cheapo cases would be less of a loss if it turned out to be a big fail)?

I agree. Please post more pictures. The box shape of the case makes me wonder if the phone would just sit in the case with too much room. Like if you grip the phone with the case on it, does the case cave in around the phone? Does the case feel solid enough or firm when on the phone? Just doesnt look like it would conform to the phone correctly. Im sure im not describing what im trying to find out correctly.
Post pics of the inside of the case?
This case does not fit with the seidio innocell 3500 battery which imo is the only one worth buying there is a case specifically for this battery on the seidio website however doesnt appear to give much protection my hope is that they design a rugged case for the extended battery
For the 2150 HTC extended battery, here is a good place:
http://shop.htcpedia.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=1104&compability_product=757
Would recommend not using silicone only as all of them tend to slip off pretty easily. But they do have hard rubber ones, the black ones look much better than red.

Works fine for me.
I saw it, and thought it was way too cheap looking. Plus I hate cases with belt clip. I'll wait for a nice case to hit the market. I'm sure it won't take long.
I bought it in store, I love it. This is exactly the Seidio Case. The belt clip is reverse, the phone goes in reverse (screen in).
i almost bought it. gonna buy it after work lol
just got my nexus S and the bestbuy mobile i went too said they didnt have it in stock/
I got it and besides being a tiny bit flimsier than my deodorant case it the same. That and it's a front and back snap case versus' the sliding one on the nexus one.

seidio makes Platinum cases (look at bottom of packaging)
I also picked up the Platinum Case for my Nexus S but am thinking of returning it within the return policy period should a better case become available.
Doesn't add a lot of bulk to the phone and the holster ain't that bad either. The holster + case ain't as bulky as my Nexus One with the Otterbox Defender.
Can someone take a couple nice pics, front and back on the S, front and back just the case, please?
I have it also and I will be replacing it with something else as soon as I can find something.
To me it feels loose around the phone and slippery in the hand.

The more I look at it the more I can tell it's an overpriced POS. ZAGG has full body shields for order on their site maybe i'll just do that and go naked/sheild. This BB one is going back.
BestBuy charged me and put it in my bag with the phone without me even asking. Had to raise a stink to get it refunded too. Looked like a crappy case that they always try and pawn off on new purchasers
I repeat. Its made by seidio. Its the same you would pay $40-50 for direct from seidio.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I like Seidio's where they're in 2 halves (top half/bottom half) and it slides onto the phone, and there's felt in the inside of the case, this does not.
The phone sorta bangs around in there, I inserted a piece of paper, now it's tight.
Still a deal for $34, with the price Seidio sells them normally (with belt clip).
I bought it just to get me by until a real case comes out. It doesn't fit tight and feels real cheap.

Anyone found a skin yet?

I am looking for a full body skin for my bionic. A case will not work since I will be using the lapdock.
I have checked these sites with no luck.

i LOVE skinomi, use them for all my screen protectors (Best screen protectors FACT haha). As far as skins, they offer great value for getting the back skin combo.
You are correct though, it will not cover the sides though. I have the carbon fiber on the back of my iPad2, it is nice because it is textured..
I think you are better off waiting for skinit for a wrapping skin honestly, it should be any day now they add it
I found this skin and have ordered it. Will let you know how it goes.

My Ghost Armor guy says they should be in by September 16th, 23rd at the latest. He did a custom cut for me to tide me over. They do decent work.
These are the best skins ive ever used. had one on my Droid Incredibe and on my Droid X. Crystal clear and tough as nails. a little pricey but worth it in my opinion.

I just got this skin today and it does wrap the entire phone for the most part. there are very few small parts of the battery door that are exposed after the installation but other than that its coverage is pretty full.
I didn't do a perfect job on it but I got it to a point that I thought it was close enough and stopped playing with it and called it a day.

It's the Skinomi black carbon fiber skin for the Bionic that the you linked to in the first post. I'm just so new that I couldn't leave the link in the quote.
I bought it off Amazon though (it's still sold by Skinomi) but it's only $18.95 there.
As I can't post links yet, you can just go to amazon and search for "skinomi black carbon bionic" (without the quotes). Only one complete match result should come up in the results and that's the one I bought.
Zagg Skins
I am sold on Zagg Skins. Great screen protectors that you install with fine liquid spray and soft squeegee in order to place screen protector exactly where you want it. I have even peeled it off and ran warm water over it six months later and reinstalled it.
They also have there own selection of skins but if you want a custom skin you can use their software to upoad graphics and resize, use transparency, rotate etc.
I beleive their warranty is 90 days, full replacement.

The skin itself is custom cut for the regular battery cover. It is not cut for the bigger battery so when you try to install it it's a little small at the "battery bump, and all of the sides and bottom of the battery cover. However, if you are patient, you can work it with some heat and stretch it to the appropriate size.
I did this as a guinea pig as I had an extra skin. I was hoping the difference would only be about as drastic as Droid X2's extended vs standard battery cover at most when I bought the skins blind, but I was wrong.
With that said, I have noted I am not the best at putting these things on. If you have a lot of patience you can probably do a better job than I did if you need to use a standard Skinomi skin on an extended battery cover. This install for the back took me about 45 minutes working at it slowly so it would fit as well as it could.
So it's your judgement call. My install is not the best but it proves that it is possible to make the skin fit the extended battery cover if you are willing to work at it for a while. If not, you can wait for someone to make a skin specially designed for the extended battery cover.
Good luck for those of you who are willing to give it a shot, just be patient and leave your frustrations at the door.

Xperia Play Otterbox commuter Case review READ ME BEFORE BUYING IT

Case: 1 star
Hello all,
Thought I'd give my input on this case before anyone else buys this thing.
The case as a whole and it's construction/quality is very good, hard durable plastic, good silicon underlay helps protect the back. Overall good quality.
People have mentioned that it's very hard to press the L/R and the volume buttons. I didn't have much of an issue, sure it's harder, but not impossible.
The dust covers on the USB and microphone jack are very good, fits in well, and easy to remove, and put back in.
If this was it, the Otterbox case would be great and get 5 stars.
So why then am I only giving this case 1 star? Simple, two fatal flaws that completely break this case.
1) To the left of the USB port are two clips keeping the top and bottom halves attached, these two clips OVERLAP. Why is this a bad thing? Because they push the screen apart, as well when you move the screen up and down, it will scratch against the gamepad. Over time this could cause some bad scratches or damage to the gamepad.
2) This is my biggest problem. The silicon inlay is too thick. What problem does this present? The clips on the side of the case rely on things fitting perfectly in order to latch onto the phone. Since the silicon is too thick, when the case is fitted, the clips are pushed out too far to properly grab on to edges of the phone. I noticed this when I was using the volume buttons, since I have to push down harder on the volume buttons than normal, because of the silicon, the extra force would push the case apart.
I have called Otterbox, and have twice had replacements sent to me, all had the same problems. I tried taking out the silicon and putting it on, the case fit PERFECTLY. But some of the buttons, power button, volume, L/R buttons are not as easily pressed anymore.
When I called Otterbox the last one, the rep made mention that it is an older phone and wasn't sure if they ever intended to fix the problem. He didn't say it, but you could tell what he was thinking.
These problems have existed since the case was made, theres no reason the problem should still exist. So they never intent to do anything, and anyone already with the case is forgotten about.
This is the second Otterbox case I have had problems with, my other was my Xperia X10 Impact case. I won't be buying any more Otterbox cases.
Just thought I'd share this in case anyone was even considering the Otterbox case for their Play.
When I get some money, I'll be trying out a Trident case.
Thanks for the review, I found it helpful.
I had an otterbox case on my old phone and it was awesome. Soon as I bought this phone last August I bougt an ottetbox case. Piece of crap for the same reasons you described thankfully I was provided and refund and got to keep the case, which sits in its box since August. Again stay the hell away from otterbox for this case is worthless and junk. I have never tried another case. However I do keep a nice otterbox screen shield on for good measure. That works well too bad I can't say the same for the case.

you are much better off with a trident aegis. In my view the best case on the market for play. If you don't have the dough get a cheap £3 gel case from ebay. Don't buy an acrylic case as they dont fit well or last long.
I have a £30 otterbox discarded somewher in my office. Waste of money
Good luck trying to get it to stay with an invisibleSHIELD on also

i bought a trident case for my play.
Best decision ever.
Perfect fit and buttons are very easy to press.
The only bad thing is that there are no dust covers for the ports and the shoulder buttons are exposed, but that shouldnt stop you from getting this case.
You will enjoy it.
here in the Philippines, otterbox staff are also expert dickheads.. they're arrogant
This is the best Xperia Play case you can buy. I've got one and it's awesome !
It puts aside any of your trident cases.

neh, looks like those cheap $2 worth sold in fake accessories shops here in the philippines.. wearing them only degrades the phone.. trident is still the best, both in protection & aesthetics..

Doesn't degrade the phone at all. Its see through and looks nice. It's made out of plastic though.

Did you drop it ?
Yeah, it's see-through. That's what makes it look cheap & degraded. As I said, it looks like those $2 worth cases sold by street vendors.

Well I have to say it doesn't look cheap or degraded. It fits perfectly well and does a good job of protecting the phone.
And the reason why I bought this case is because it's see through and I have a white Xperia Play so it looks awesome !

I have a Trident case for mine. I read too many bad reviews about otterbox that so i went with Trident. It does a very good job of protecting my phone and makes it have some grip so you don't drop it so easily.
I think the Otterbox was redesigned, because I experience NONE of this "clip overlap" issue that I read about. I received mine today and did not even know people had any issue until reading some reviews. I carefully inspected mine and it is flawless. Nothing rubs or scrapes at all. It is smooth as butter. Nor is it "falling off" like others claim. The volume controls are actually easier to volume up and down now, and while yes, there is a little more push involved with the trigger buttons, it is not so much that I cannot push them. It is great to know they are sealed from dust/grime/crap.
I cannot say anything wrong with this case at all. There are cutouts as well for the speakers, and I noticed some reviews said that there were not. I think the case has been re-done, because none of the reviews/reports reflect my case at all??
EDIT: I think I figured it out. If you put the top portion BACKWARD, the tabs overlap each other. You must ensure to put it on the RIGHT WAY and it will not scrape, etc. Wish they were a little more informative and let you know the correct method on the package. I did not put it on the wrong way, but after looking it over I can see how someone can do this and experience what the original reviewer did. When installed the correct way, *nothing* rubs.
