[Q] Root and OTA - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
I have rooted my Mini with pre-rooted firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030282
Looks like it uses stock ROM but with root access and does not change counter.
Does it support OTA?
Thx in advance,

Yes it does have ota

Thank you. Thread can be closed, I think.

Strange. I got root using presented guide. Tried to check for updates and it says that I have modified my device and it cannot check for updates.
Do I need to make factory reset or FOTA updates are not compatible with root?

Happens to me if u remove or delete certain apps, Samsung scan your phone and says u have custom or modified ROM .

if you have downloaded any firmware open the firmware file with alphazip there you will see recovery file extract it then with alphazip create a .tar file and put recovery in that tar file then flash the tar file with Odin in PDA section you will get stock recovery.
I have to say you sorry because neither i have downloaded any firmware nor I can use odin to flash anything because I haven't any computer,so please tell me any other process like above you tell me about unrooting .Thank you for helping me.

He already answered your problem.. Do what he said using root explorer.. You don't need a pc to do this.. Uninstall superuser app I must add..
If you have cwm installed and you don't have a pc, then that would be a problem.. Not heard of a stock recovery flashable through cwm..

the only way to your problem was mobile Odin but mobile Odin is not compatible with sgm so a PC is the single solution you can use a friends pc

Hi , what is done by flashing cwm? I guess either it replace some files in system by deleting them or overwrite them . If someone knows about those files then we could get stock recovery back .or not?
And one question more. How to hard reset after flashing cwm?
The hard reset code *2767*3855# now not working.
Thanks for your kind help.

please read 10th post of this thread for removing cwm
to hard reset go to recovery (by switching on the phone while pressing home+power button) then scroll up and down with volume buttons, scroll down to delete data and factory reset(something like this)and press menu button to select it
code will not work as it is now cwm recovery
Hi Mr Dhlalit I have read that post and thanks for help. I just only want to know about the effect of flashing cwm on system files so that we can backup the effected files by root explorer .

You can try flashing the attached file with ODIN (as PDA).
This will do a factory reset to your phone and hopefully make it boot normally.
The file is taken from the following thread so all credits go there!

I believe you need to flash an official rom again to remove root.
After that, do a factory defaults reset.

This is my understanding too. Bear in mind that as soon as official updates are released a developer here will make it available on xda. This means you often get updates before you would normally (because they are rolled out at different times depending on carrier and region).

[Q] NB4 phone with SS and installing ROM

I got the NB4 update and was able to re-root via an older version of Kingo. Got SS installed and want to install a custom rom on the device. When i'm reading through the instructions, it wants me to flash via ODIN some files.
Can anyone explain on why I have to flash via ODIN files to get the ROM to install on SS? I did install one before and it didn't need and re-flashing.
Was the ROM you are trying to flash a KitKat ROM? Maybe the ROM required updated firmware?
Because you are flashing a KitKat ROM.
You need the BL, AP and CP to be flashed in Odin in order for the ROM to boot and function properly.
You will also have to flash the ROM to the stock slot or it will not work correctly.

I used the most recent kingo 1.2.2 a it gave me root, I had to make sure the I had no virus software's activated during the flashing or it would just sit there and do nothing and also make sure you put 10 min. on screen timeout............. Now all I need is to look for is some custom NB4 Rom's ( I think) 4.3 JB to flash and play, I finding that untill the OTA 4.4 KK gets rooted I won't venture forward........

. Open the root file explorer and go to the /system folder.
3. Open the file named build.prop in text editor
4. In the build.prop file look for ro.config.tima=1 change the 1 to 0 and save changes
The regular shealth app will work after that

If you have Exynos and want stock firmware/updates, then just flash the latest stock firmware using Odin.
If on the other hand you are rooted and want to stay that way, then just make the build.prop change for s-health and enjoy. You can't get ota updates while rooted, but you could flash new updates through Odin and then re-root, etc. (but make backups first).

Well until some one finds a way to reset knox , i believe no other way to update OTA on rooted device. Flashing Stockrom will solved OTA problem but S Health will remain unable to Opens.
If you wants to unroot, just choose full unroot from superuser manager app after editing the build.prop (still No OTA update though)
I Hopes it helps
