[Q] N7000 dead? No download mode? Nothing... - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
A french member from my forum has a big problem with his N7000.
He had PARANOIDANDROID v2.+ (v2.56)Utacka - J.B : 4.1.2
He flashed this firmware: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/164510335/d5dc587/N7000XXLRK_N7000DBTLRK_DBT.zip.html
Bootloop on Samsung logo so he tried a Wipe data but rebooting into recovery mode he had:
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
E:failed to mount /sytem (Invalid argument )
can't mount '/system (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /sytem (Invalid argument )
Click to collapse
Now he doesn't have any access to the download mode and only a black screen...
Is there any solution for him?
Thanks a lot!
EDIT
He tried with a JIG USB but nothing more.

Does the jig get him to download mode?

No...

He has hard bricked his phone.
Have him try this..keep the back cover off so can easily remove and replace battery. Make sure battery is still charged.
1. Remove battery for about 5 seconds
2. Plug in jig and replace battery with jog in
3. WAIT. Don't do anything. It may take a couple minutes.
4. Hold power button for 5 seconds then immediately remove the jig. Let go of power button
5. Hold power button now for 20-30 seconds.
6. Remove battery again for 5 seconds and then replace it
7. Quickly hold power - home - volume down - hold it for 20 seconds or so until you get to download mode screen
Please report back if doesn't work.

Try not to let Tue battery die while trying this or he will have to get it charged on someone else's phone just to to try this

Thanks buddy!!!
I'm going to give these steps to my friend and I'll come back to you asap.

No news... Sorry...

Let me know... I will check this thread once a day

I believe I'm having the same problem. I can't enter download / recovery mode: all I get is a black screen (also when the phone is charging). Since I had some issues with my microusb connector before, I tried replacing it. Didn't help. Replacing battery didn't help as well.

So he tried with 2 batteries fully charged with the steps you provided.

He tells me that there are no reactions when he removes the battery and pluges in the JIG and remplaces the battery (even after 1 hour )
Normally after step 3, he should see something on the screen. I think that he did all the remaining steps but in vain...
4. Hold power button for 5 seconds then immediately remove the jig. Let go of power button
5. Hold power button now for 20-30 seconds.

EDIT
Is it useful to flash via Odin even if he doesn't have the download mode? What about flashing with this Kernel and pit files? And ADB (I don't have enough knowledge for that...)

No other possibility to solve this problem? (warranty expired)
Thanks.

Read carefully the instructions given. You may enter download mode even if the screen is black.

He did a wipe data but nothing better.
Can he try a format /system (via CWM) and flash a full ROM (via Odin) to avoid this freeze?
Thanks a lot!!!

Yellow triangle is from flashing hydravore via odin... it doesnt matter because it just affects warranty...use triqngoe away.

Older Gingerbread ROMs (Directly Rootable) found here, right?

I believe so...worst case scenario if it isnt rooted you can OTA to ICS and flash philz kernel from stock recovery to root without any potential for harm
Definitely start witg the GB though considering all the issues you have had

I removed the battery when phone was in download mode

Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000 with Android 2.2 (FROYO) system upgraded from 2.1 version using oden.
Yesterday I tried to update this system because I have some problem in my phone (shutdown automatically...). I used the same method I used before to UPGRADE the system (oden write SBL above the port number colored in yellow).
Unfortunately, when the phone was in "download mode", oden has stop working on 30% approx. it says that the com port is not available (knowing that this port worked correctly when oden established the connection). So I removed the battery from my phone...... (I know it is a stupid idea).
Now the phone do not start-up and when I connect it to pc nothing happens.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help me what must I do??
Thank you guys
Can You Boot the phone into download mode manually ?
press volume down + home + power simultaneously
ps that wasn't stupid idea - it was the only solution to turn off broken flashing, but You must try boot it again to download mode and flash again but this time make sure that every file is properly placed in odin: file with MODEM as phone, CSC to CSC and third to PDA.
Oy.
As far as I know losing power to the phone or rebooting the pc while flashing the bootloader is one of the only ways to properly brick the sgs.
This sounds bad...very bad. If the bootloader had been erased but the new one hadn't been written before you pulled the battery, then I fear it is Goodnight Charlie. No bootloader, no phone.
If you can use the three button method to get to download mode as the post above me suggested, you will be alright.
If not....maybe a jig but I would doubt it.

what did you mean by "jig". I am sure there is a solution
You seem expert so you can find a creative solution
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551 or give it to nearest samsung service, just say it is broken doesn't start - do never ever say its broken because i flashed it

i would strongly suggest you first try building the jig with resistors
if that doesn't get you into download mode, then you can take the phone to your provider.

if you see this then it can be saved, if its just a black screen you are kind of screwed
Does the phone show any reaction? Does the acreen show anything? Any Sound? If it's just a black stone and doesnt react at all, send it to Samsung and as reason for the phone to be bricked, just say Kies f***ed it up while you tried to sync contacts or so. I did that one week ago and as you can see it's working again.
Well if it shows reaction try building your own jig as mentioned in the thread above or buy one from ebay to boot your phone into download mode.

ONLY black screen. The phone is out of warranty, will this cost a lot? they will fix it by hardware (change a part) or by software?
Try this:
1. Take everything out of the phone (sim, micro sd, battery)
2. Press volume up+home+power
3. Put the battery back in while still having the three buttons pressed.
4. Hopefully you are in download mode.

FAQ
Will it work for new stock gingerbread, ics, custom, cyanogen, miui and other firmware?
All gingerbread ROMs and ICS except CLP5 and CLP6 (some users report about incompatibility). Better don't use this reset counter instruction if you have those ICS ROMs.
Do I need root for this?
No.
Does not work, yellow triangle is not disappeared!
Carefully follow all 10 points of instruction.
I am having trouble, black screen after a 10th point!
Try reboot your device. Remove battery for 10 seconds and plug it back.
Odin can't recognize USB plug at 4 or 8 point. + Windows can't detect device or identifies as "Unknown device".
Try another USB port. Try reinstall kies or remove it and install only galaxy note drivers (link1, link2). If not helped try another PC.
Will this work on the Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Nexus?
No! You will break your phone. Works and tested for GT-N7000 and GT-I9220.
Will this work on the SGH-I717 (AT&T)?
Not tested yet.
Will I have a problem with a warranty? Can they identify the use of this counter reset?
There is absolutely no chance to detect this binary reset at service center.

1. After doing this procedure, do we lose root and CWM? If so, How do we get them back? zergrush?
2. I have a jig that works with my SGS, but it doesn't "appear" to work with my Note. Is there any way to tell if it actually works before I start flashing foreign bootloaders?

[Q] [I9001] SGS+ bricked/broken

Hey guys,
I own a SGS+ and tried to flash a ROM a few month ago.
Not sure which one it was in particular but it was a 4.1.2 ROM.
Normally it worked pretty well but that time it broke my phone apparently.
So now a few month later I tried to get it to work again.
My phone stucks at the splashscreen, easy said.
It boots till the splash screen and then it's on for about 3-4 minutes I guess and then the screen turns off.
But apparently it still runs because if I try to start it again over the power button it doesn't work.
I have to remove the battery, insert it again and then I can use the power button.
I tried several things and I'm out of information here.
So maybe one of you guys can help me out here?
Thanks for reading!
Try wiping cache an dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help do a full wipe and install a new rom. If it still doesn't work, flash a stock rom via odin. Also, which recovery are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Already did everything you mentioned, multiple times.
Well I used at first CWM 6.0.1.2 then switched to 6.0.2.8, then 6.0.3.2, then 6.0.3.6 and then TWRP 2.4.0.0 and TWRP 2.6.0.0.
I tried those who should be for the bricked phones.
Try to flash a new kernel, then flash a new ROM. You should be able to get into download mode...

That's not the problem.
I can get into download mode, I could get into download mode all the time.
I don't think you got my problem right:
My phone stucks at the splash screen.
Doesn't turn off only screen turns off but the phone is still running.
I can only reboot if I take the battery out.
So it boots up to the splashscreen and stucks.
I flashed a few new roms and nothing worked.
If you can get into download mode, try flahing a stock rom via odin.

Maybe you didn't flash appropriate ROM for your device. Read this thread, especially the first post by our forum mate xsensman and try to check if it could be concerning also your device:

Mate, something is strange there. With splashscreen you mean bootloop, right? So you see the logo, but the phone doesn't really loads the Android?
OK, here we go: please remove the battery and write down your serial No and google a bit is it really i9001? There are about 20 different types of SGS so just to make sure which model do you have.
That bootloop can happen for several reasons, but I would assume that in your case it happens either for:
bootloader isn't working properly
you haven't flashed the proper ROM for your device.
I suspect very strongly the bootloader, so re-flashing the bootloader via Odin, theoretically, should revive your phone. Just check (as written above) do you REALLY have i9001, (as otherwise -if not- you could brick it with the bootloader for i9001):
First post, "5. Follow the instruction" (all files there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32144697
I'm 100% sure that I have a real i9001, not a special edition or something like that.
And I flashed before it got broken a few month and the roms worked just fine.
Well but then it broke somehow.
I just see that my phone with the CWM-Recovery can't format /data and hangs.
Can't do anything unless I remove the battery and boot up again.
Could this be a hint for you guys?

I have no idea what may that be, but are you sure your phone is bricked?
Have you tried to use normal TWRP 2.6 instead of that one for bricked phones?

Try to manually get in recovery, it might take a few tries.
As for your usb port problem.. It might be worth getting it replaced/fixed as the cappy highly depends on it.

I don't think you're doing this right. Getting in download mode, you have to be unplugged, phone turned off and hold vol down + power.

Yes, I already recovery mode but does not work, is that he is as frizzy, send for the USB JIG for amazon to see if that works. I hope if works if not then I will comment to follow their opinions.
Unfortunately did not work with USB JIG!. I think it needs a JTAG!. and I q Pay not worth 40 dollars for a JTAG! if you find another way to enter download mode will thank you many times!. the phone turns itself I think that's what it does not enter download mode with JIG USB. Powering the button is damaged.
What ROM you were running before flashing CyanCore kernel?
How did you find USB is not working? Are you using the original Samsung USB cable?

The rom you were using is [4.2.2] GamerzROM Legend Edition v4.0
and yes use the Samsung USB Cable.
the power button when I bought apparently not working but I did not need as the phone turns putting the battery.
now I do not know if this hurting to use USB JIG.
the phone is as frizzy as when I install the cable before putting the battery and put the battery and stays like in the picture I put up
Install only when CyanCore kernel. and gave him a Reboot Recovery, so stayed on the screen in White logo AT & T, I just wanted to install the version 4.3
either I get into recovery mode with Volume Up + Down before if I did.
Well, with so many hardware issues playing with custom ROMs is not a good idea in a first place. Anything that goes wrong kills your phone with no way to recover it.

softy brick after root attempt (T815)

Hello Everybody !!
I really need help
I just got my T815 (Austria),and I tried to root it.
I read through all the tutorials for this, also Im not new to this, yet it seems I screwed up somewhere.
Here is what I did (to my tab) :
* Downloaded Odin 3.10.xx
* Downloaded sm-t815_cf_autoroot.tar
* Firmware on the tab was 5.0.2 (also did a OTA update before rooting)
* Flashed the sm-t815_cf_autoroot.tar with odin
Rebooted, everything was okay, there was also superuser installed already
* flashed twrp_2.8.6.3_LL_5.0.2_t815.tar
* rebooted into recovery, looked really great (compared to my old CWM on my old tab)
* then I did a full wipe,so I can start over now with the rooted tab.
yet when I rebooted,I just see the white on black (Galaxy Tab S2...) and thats it.
I cant even turn the thing off .
I can get into download mode.
Tried to flash T815XXU1AOI5_T815OXA1AOI5_T815XXU1AOI5_HOME.tar.md5 yet it says
SW REV. CHECK FAIL DEVICE : 2 , BINARY : 1
All I can do now with the device is :
* Boot into DownloadMode
* When I flash twrp_2.8.6.3_LL_5.0.2_t815,I can also access the twrp recovery
but thats all
When I reboot I only see the white on black ,thats all,I cant even turn it off
any ideas ???
help is HIGHLY appreciated !!!
well... I was quite sure Im F*****D even after 3h googeling and flashing stuff... yet it seems it wasnt enough time spend on research.
I managed to bring my tab back from the dead... I found a firmware that was flashable, and now its like nothing ever has happend.
Rooted/Recovery.. everything is okay.
So pleae consider this thread closed,I dont know how to delete it myself.
pS:
What I hate most are posts where ppl ask stuff, then close it themself and say..."nevermind.. I fixed it" without posting the solution.. so I wont do that too
My solution was :
Flashing : T815XXU2AOJ4_T815ATO2AOJ1_T815XXU2AOJ4_HOME.tar.md5
It seems this is newer (version) than the ones I tried to flash,so it was accepted by the device.
I fall in the same condition, i flash the same firmware and odin say it is all ok and the firmware it is charged correctly but i'm in bootloop again.
any idea? no way to go in recovery mode, only download mode

Reboot your device into Android Recovery Mode: For smartphones >> by pressing and holding Volume Up and Home buttons together and then hold the Power key till screen shows the Samsung logo. Release the power button but keep the other two keys pressed until you see a black screen with green Android bot and blue text. For Galaxy Tab or Note 10.1 >> press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys together for a few seconds until you see the yellow triangle with Android bot followed by a black screen with blue text.
Once in recovery mode, use the Volume Up/Down keys to scroll up or down, and use the Power button to select any option.
Perform the wipe operations by scrolling down to wipe data/factory reset option and select yes to confirm the process. Next, go to wipe cache partition and confirm it.
Once done, go to the reboot system. Then you flash via odin any frimware for your model.
Thanks but the problem is to go to recovery mode. I can't shut down the tablet. The only think i can do is to go in download mode pushing power+down+home button. No others combinations is accepted. I try to discharge the tablet and then insert the cable pushing the correct combination for recovery mode but it don't work.

Its different on a newer Galaxy Tab.
My Note 8.0 i.e. goes "Power button + Volume Up" into recovery.
But on the Tab S2 ,you have to press "home+power+volume down",and the second the screen goes black, you have to press volume up,then recovery is loading (red text in the upper left => then release all buttons). Otherwise the download mode loads again.
Took me a while to figure this out.
If your using TWRP,you can power down your device there if your still caught in a bootloop (i.e. you cant flash the firmware because of a version mismatch, like it was in my case)
It was kinda scary when my tab all of a sudden didnt accept the firmware I was able to flash before.
But I guess the OTA update changed the version,so I had to find a firmware that matches that.
Im quite sure yours isnt hard brick as well, just be patient, there is almost always a way to fix it !!
Just curious. I own a sm-t710. WiFi model but have similar issue. I keep getting error in Odin under boot. Is that the error you were getting?
Not the same error. Odin tell me it is all OK but I can't came out from the bootloop. I can reach only the black and white screen or download mode, not in recovery.
have you tried to flash twrp and tried again to get into recovery ??

I have twrp working but just can't flash with odin. Maybe I will try other firmwares to see if that works. I will also try to copy them to sd card and flash with twrp. At work now so will try tonight.

It's a bit pointless stating you get an error in Odin without actually providing any screenshots or information as to what the error is.

yes i try but don't work. odin say it is all ok with the recovery but i continue to be stucked in logo screen.

The firmware is being rejected because it is not compatible with your device. Download the exact firmware for your device region.
Firmware is correct for my device and region. Thank you for the response though

Odin only rejects images if the signature is wrong or it is corrupted.
Seeing as it passed the md5 check it must be the wrong firmware for your device. I suggest you flash the OJ4 firmware.
If it isn't then you have big problems as the only other explanation is a broken emmc.
Which country did you buy this tablet?
As far as firmware seems correct. Got it from Sam's mobile. Hope the broken emmc is not the case. If it is can that be fixed? Damn. Tablet will be a week old tomorrow

It could be wrong region since I installed roms labeled unknown since on Sam's mobile didn't see one for USA

I dropped it off at local repair shop which deals with iPhones and android. I just called them and they said they couldn't do anything. Do I have any options besides using it as a paper weight. Anyone that deals with these repairs?,, I will try to flash XAR file when I get home but with work can't spend too much time on it. I'm running Windows on a mac mini and that is where I have Odin installed. Do you think that may be an issue?
