[ROM][SENSE][10-01-2013] UnoX SENSE4 for Optimus 4X HD - FIRST CUSTOM ROM! - LG Optimus 4X HD

LG O4X UnoX SENSE4 ALPHA RELEASEYou thought you never see a HTC SENSE with BeatsAudio interface on O4X? This is the ALPHA release of SENSE 4.0 (version 2.17.401.2) and using STOCK LG kernel for your LG Optimus 4X HD
Latest update 10.Jan.2013
Changed build to avoid conflict with team venoms mods, this should be more stock now.
It is now a ClockWorkMod Update.zip using AROMA installer.
alot changed and yet, no GSM is working but i am getting closer.
***STATUS***
Click to collapse
This is very early developer release, more a proof of concept, to help others start porting or even developing roms, without thinking the locked bootloader will limit the distribution. so regular users, will probably not use this for anything since mobile connectivity is not working.
but if you wish to check performance and maybe test some performance here, this is a way to do it and compare.
Any contribution to fixing the RIL driver in this one or other fixes are appreciated, feel free to make patches if you can help improve this.
***WHY***
Click to collapse
So the O4X community have been almost dead and not a single custom rom has been released, primarily because many believe a unlocked bootloader is needed.

NOTES ON FIRST USE

- First start can take 5-6 minutes due to a process waiting for media scanner.
- in /system folder, you can rename "local.prop1" to "local.prop" , and you can enable adb root.
- its based on v10d, i do not know if the boot.img is required, but remove it if you wish to try it without. (remember to edit md5 checksum file if you do)
- do not try and install recovery from the CWM app, just use it to reboot into cwm, do NOT install recovery, its already in place and modified to work with sense.

you can modify the existing backup, by editing the nandroid.md5 checksum file, remove the "system.ext4.tar" line in the md5 file
and rename the "system.ext4.tar.a" to "system.ext4.tar" . and of course do the same with the real tar file.
then it should look pretty much like old backups
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update:
after the upload,
i have checked GPS and NFC.
GPS is confirmed working
NFC needed fixing but it works now , althoug icon is gone, and the NFCplus app works too, so you can modify tags

wow NICE!! almost had a mini heart attack when i saw this post!:fingers-crossed:
looking forward to working CALL XDD
THX a lot for ur work!!!

no luck...btw any other method to install via TWRP recovery?? my sd card has a problem, and no money to buy new one...so any solution to restore this backup??

i've been stuck in the setup wizard for so long now, i managed to get past the language/locale selection screen but I'm stuck in the next screen where venom setup is.
Anyone managed to get past this screen? can i delete setupwizard to bypass this process?
EDIT: finally get past the setup wizard!!! ultra smooth rom!!!
i know this is ALPHA but thought i should post a list of things i found not working so maybe someone can fix it =)
- Vibration not working
- Google Voice Search not working
- mount ext-sdcard not working
- Flashlight not working
- Whatsapp doesn't work (it says "Tablet is not supported" so i guess there's sth wrong with the IMEI or build.prop)
- pressing "settings" in camera app crash the app itself
- "Share" option is unusable (tested both by email and by Google+)
BUT
- Camera app works GREAT with rear camera!!!!!
- most if not all widgets work (though i didn't test all of them, most of them work!!! without a lag)
- Speaker works

thanks for the report back, and yes, i am aware of the setup screen bug, it also seems to relate to the customization process hanging in the background, so it will hang for some time too, sorry. porting is not always easy
edit: i believe the problem rely in the SIMcard not being detected as you might note, the simcard screen normally shown is not being shown, which asks to insert sim. it also seems the the firmware seems to tell the htc software it is a CDMA phone, so this might also be the problem why gsm is not working. this is seen in the radio log.
- i noted the other things, and flashlight is the only one i am not looking at, as our flashlight is different and can be damaged if i try to make it like a lightbulb i think. (do not know and do not want to find out)
- we got no IMEI yet, since phone is not working, so the whatsapp might have a different issue or as you say, it does not exist. build.prop is pretty much OneX original here.
- external sdcard works fine here, i wonder why you cannot see it in storage settings?
- i do not know why googlevoice do not work, ill check up on it, probably relate to recording format, which i noted only works with AAC and not AMR format.

external sd is not accessible in the default file manager? but if i use another file manager (FX Explorer), i can access the extSD
but in storage settings, everytime i try to unmount the sd, settings.apk crashes
but as an alpha "port" (sort of), the rom is ULTRA-SMOOTH, wish at least GSM call work soon:silly:

ok i see now.
this the the HTC way of having external sdcard, the semi way, since they officially do no longer make many top models with sdcard.
the location of external sdcard is at /mnt/sdcard2 and internal is /mnt/sdcard
let me check up on the unmounting, i already got some fixes, but not GSM, sorry, that require alot more it seems to fix.
about the GSM part, it is strange that both OneX and O4X uses a radio chipset with QUO 6260 radio, but they flash firmware different ways, so that makes it incompatible somehow.

Great job man!
I will join your development as soon as I finish my exams (2-3 weeks) so the LG 4X community gets alive. Will read your thread in the meantime.

Making a backup now while downloading this rom.
Thank you so much for your time and effort Dexter!

Sense 4.1 is actually pretty smooth on our O4X. Too bad radio is somehow turned off. I would rock this rom as my daily once radio gets solved. But for now, everything else seems to be working. Beats works great too. Camera is good, but video FCs.

getting DRM working little better here, i simply copied the generated RSA keys from /data to a tar file and extract it at every boot, but not sure how i get the lgeril to load it now, since its htc based.
for the camera, i simply use a camera from another htc 4.0.4 release and it works fine. probably related to resolution of camera and it works now recording in 1080p as well.

[TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0C 2.3.7 Build

Hey folks,
This is a completely new build, with all the new changes baked in. We wanted to do a semi-official test release to collect bugs and hopefully do a formal official release with everything settled. The main pain point is the CSV files (see pre-install prep).
So a brief overview:
New acoustic routing code baked in. Should fix most if not all audio routing problems, and will provide more debugging if stuff does go wrong. Also allows for more granular tweaking, see the CSV files.
GPS fixes for GB - GPS not only works in GB now, but it doesn't kill sleep! I was able to use GPS, get a solid lock, and put the device to sleep no problem.
BT should work & well with the new acoustic code. Post results.
RHOD users now have a choice of kernels. .35+ all have the new acoustic - so .35, .39, 3.0 and 3.1 are all fair game now... This is bundled with .27!!
Keep in mind, autobuild .27 kernels will produce no audio in this build... Obviously the bundled kernel will work, and the absolute newest .27 autobuild kernel does work now - Feb.27 2012 or newer.
rootfs tweaks - first, it will detect which kernel you're on (.27 or .35+) and automatically apply the correct firmware. Second, is it will always copy/extract the modules... failures there were getting annoying, and this is surefire if brute-force...
Few Easter egg apk's...
Probably a lot I'm forgetting, this might change
Pre-Install Prep REQUIRED!!!
This step is crucial, and I forgot all about it! You must copy all of the *.CSV file from your WinMo ROM - these are in the \Windows\ directory. There's a very easy way to do this. It involves the Total Commander app for WinMo (Direct Link for the perpetually lazy...) (included in EnergyROM and others probably).
Now you're in Total Commander looking at your \Windows\ directory. Whew... lots of files. Fear not! Hit the "CTRL" button, then the green "Plus" button. This opens the Select/Unselect files dialog. Put in *.csv, press "select" and voila. All CSV files are selected. Now - File -> Copy/Move -> I want you to copy these (should be 10) files to the ROOT of your SD card. No folders!!! This is hardset right now, until we get it all implemented into the build properly. Thanks!
Install
Assuming you've done the pre-install prep; this is installed just like the other XDAndroid builds - grab your startup.txt (don't forget rel_path= if you don't have it at the root of the SD!), ts-calibration and boot!
Download
Caveat List
CDMA users might get a crash in phone.apk and no service on boot. If waiting doesn't resolve the issue, then reboot. Should come up fine...
BT might still be flaky
The CSV files from my TOPA100 are attached for the lazy. I'd like to gather CSV's from each RHOD, I'm curious if any ROM devs have changed them out either... This could get interesting. If you folks don't mind, post up your CSV's, point out differences with mine, etc... We're trying to figure out how to unify these, if possible! Thanks!
Please post back any issues, enjoy!
GBX0C Changelog
Camcorder: Now works (tested on rhodium).
Acoustic: Bug-fix : correct random loss of dual(rear)-mic.
MMS: Bug-fix: Slides with zero duration on Sprint.
Gps: Bug-fix: Init/de-init sequence fix (correct gps not starting up after being unchecked in Settings).
Gps: Bug-fix: End gps session with a correct rpc call (relevant to amss6125 devices).
Gps: Bug-fix: Don't send delayed position requests after session has ended (possibly relevant to Navigation issues).
Gps: New feature: Xtra (aGPS) -> verified to work on rhodium/cdma raph.
X1 specific: Screen rotation patch.
Added tytung's GPS injector app to AndroidApps\Other as well as updating/cleaning up some apps in AndroidApps.
Modified rootfs for newest apsta firmware & wifi firmware - wifi tethering now works flawlessly in the newest kernels! .27 is still bundled for the record...

Can't detect build type... I had that yesterday, and forgot no_partitions in my startup. Perhaps same issue for you? Obviously this setup runs without a partitioned card, and if your card is partitioned you must tell the system that you want to ignore the partitions and just boot looped.
Yes, I have partitioned sd...can you post me right startup, please?
(or I have to add 'no_partitions' to my startup.txt?)

Sigh.
Yes, you have to add "no_partitions" to your startup.txt, as below.
Code:
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2293
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set initrd_offset 0x00a00000
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off sensor=topaz pm.sleep_mode=1 no_partitions"
boot

Uhm.
From what I gather, there's apps that work in FRX07 that don't work here. Tunis Radar? Is that a GPS app..? Any other apps that don't work?
Logs please.
...Or are you saying they don't show up in the Market?
Hello,
Yes it's a GPS application and i can't see it in android market (it display that they are 15 results but i can see only Sygic (GPS App)).
What about to make this build in CWM?

anybody with success in this stuff? thanks a lot
maybe with titanium backup?
i know...my backup is from froyo frx07 version but i think it is possible if the app can run and not force closes itself at the begining
what about battery? any longer results in batt life? maybe not...

[NAND][NANDROID] ATTISOID first release [29.2.2012]

Hi Guys! I finally can release my first customized themed ROM from SP3DV build! This is my daily use ROM and think it is so good to share it.
I'd prefer to shared the NANDROID (backup restore) but maybe upload the usual installing .zip file in next days. The major advantages of this rom is that it can boot with SD CARD inserted (It work for me and hope to work with any SD CARD type). Also use an app (tasker) that prevents rebooting after any missed call.
FEATURES:
- Based on CyanogenMod 7.1 Android 2.3.7
- This is a MOTO BLUR themed rom. (I don't use the BLURHOME launcher becouse it is so heavy for X1. Instead I use a blur theme for Great GO LAUNCHER EX)
- Changed Bootanimation with a 3D CYANOGENMOD7.
- JAVA enabled (For installing .jar files).
- New WALLPAPERS.
- 3 new AOSP themes Added (MOTOBLUR, ANASTASDROID, ROVER BLACK).
- Customized framework-res.apk.
- US text-to-speech (tts) Added.
- Changed the default FONT with the CHINT font.
- used the last Zargloub's kernel (gf111062 - 28.2.2012).
- CPU Max and Min frequency customized (128~614MHZ).
ADDED:
- Go launcher ex with BLUR theme, Go locker, Go locker themes, Go taskmanager, Go weather.
- Gauge battery widget.
- X-plore.
- Smart keyboard pro.
- Multitasking pro (With long press of home key it appears).
- Ucbrowser and Ucxunlei (a great chinese downloading app).
- Audio effect.
- TASKER (A good replacement of chinese Newding) [Great Thanks to BORKISHA and other guys that introduce it].
REMOVED:
- Stoke Android Keyboard.
- Old CMWALLPAPERS.
- CM7 old themes.
- Newding
BUGS:
THIS ROM IS UNROOT! So there are some bugs like wifi problems!
IF YOU DONT HAVE THE CLOCKWORKMOD recovery flashed to your XPERIA X1, please see the link blow till flashing CLOCKWORKMOD recovery. [thanks to Kerfooly]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329379
HOW TO INSTALL:
1- Download the .7z file from the provided link.
2- Extract it and put the folder clockworkmod in the root of your SD CARD.
3- Reboot in recovery and choose backup and restore.
4- select restore.
5- select the date-time provided. then select yes-restore.
6- reboot and enjoy without need to eject your SD CARD when booting!
7- After that ANDROID boots, launch the TASKER app and select your ringtone and SMS notification from your SD CARD!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
There are not something special in that build! just can find a way to prevent SD CARD checking while boot! I find that if the build be unroot it can't stuck while boot! I try 4zroot for unroot but it can't reroot! When the build be unroot some bugs appear! If the unroot-reroot problem solves, can say that the SD CARD problem finally can be solved!
first one unbelivable it really works with sdcard inserted nice job attisa!!!!
my simcard can't get detected with this rom
wow...really this build can used daily ??
Thanks for your rom
Do you have Install zip for it

So, just load it up, click unroot then reboot, then run again and chose reroot?
for me it gives force closes and system is totally messed after unroot and i'm not able to reroot...
but boot works with sdcard inserted...
Just like me
Wifi doesn't work anymore
what kind of crap you posted attisa didn't you tried it before?
but solution is near...
wifi is also messed up for me...
EDIT: oh ok i understand this is the mod you did to the rom but i prefer to remove sdcard than to have no su rights and no wifi
but pretty good the solution is near
you only should mentioned the problems more clearly and earlier...
I think all of these problems are as result of shell rooting
If there is a way to could full root the NAND roms, all problems will gone (missed call reboot, SDcard, wifi, ...)
If it ok I share tasker and it's settings
What are the Phone Offhook and Phone Idle ?
Sorry OP, but i have to close this. Next time, do not include paid software in your release..

[GPS] T959 4.2 JB GPS Reset / Fix [GPS]

Looking around in various threads I found numerous gps fixes. In some (most) the files are not original T959 files. While they may work, since they are not T959 KB5 files the possibility of 911 working diminishes. I set out to find any gps fix out there and build a flash-able package that would reset everything back to the proper (or as close to) files for our phones (T959).
Also I have found some ROMs utilized the SUPL port of 7276. This port was found to create gps log-spam and the "fix" was to reset the port to 7275. This IMO also resulted in quicker locks.
See HERE and HERE for more info.
For the 911 info go HERE (or just click it in FaultException's signature)
What this tells me is you want matched GPS libraries with the proper T959 RIL.
So I have searched a few threads and found 1 GPS fix so far and built mine to reset or undo any possible mismatched files flashed. If you find any GPS fix that some might use for CM10.1 please post it an I shall try to adapt mine to reset it to the proper files.
I have made:
North American version (NA)
Europe Version (EU)
Global Version (GL)
USA Version (US)
Asia Version (AS)
YMMV between USA and North America if you live in the states.
2nd post I will also post my custom version with some extra advice and good signal locks. What I need is for people to nanadroid first and test it. Also to post / link and GPS fixes they may have come across so I can check them. Point to note is I am attempting to fix non T959 GPS fixes as much as make a good GPS fix for our phones. Posting links to other "fixes" will help. Thanks
With any JB / ICS ROM you have taken the responsibility of possible breaking 911. No difference here. Flash at own risk.
NANDROID FIRST!!!
Big thanks to FaultException for the time, info, and files required for our phones.
Original version may mute calls > Revert to nanadroid if the case. V2 shouldn't effect calls. Please test.

Ok here is the file for my custom GPS setup. I have not had and deep-sleep issues (DS). Some of the following may work, or not. Its just some tips and stuff I do.
Zip file attached. NTP is set to north america so you can edit as needed.
This will also install Angrygps app for you. When you boot up open the app and set the following:
Settings > General Settings > Operation Mode = "MSBASED"
Settings > SUPL Settings > Server = supl.sonyericsson.com and PORT = 7275
Also I suggest you install an app called LeoAGPS injector. Found HERE
Install it like any normal app (no push), open the app and select "Pop-up message". After that go to your home screen and app the LeoAGPS widget. Click the widget to inject AGPS data. Wait a few seconds then reboot.
Try out the GPS and see how it goes.
Version 1 broke sound on the RemICS ROMs so I pulled the RIL files out. Now just custom gps files / fixes
Change log:
Added a USA version. May or may not work better than the North America version.
1/10/2013 - Since it appears the version 1 broke phone sound on the RemICS builds I removed the RIL files. Now v2 will only fix / replace gps files and not RIL files.
1/18/2014 - Added some MD5's of gpsd/agpsd files Ive extracted from Samsung dumps.
GPS fixes reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33575684&postcount=504
If you want to try and adapt it to your specific country:
Open in a text editor: /system/etc/gps.conf
Change the NTP server line (top line) to your country. Country list found HERE
Edit / reboot / check
I do suggest the LeoAGPS app in post #2. It has seemed to work well for me.

Thanks for this awesome post! I know I'm suppose to test these files before asking but you might already have the answer: with these fixes, in your experience, do you still need to get a lock before DS in order to prevent issues after DS? Or after you reboot and getting into DS before locking first, you are able to get GPS to lock after DS?
Thanks for all your help!

It was not addressed to me, my 5 cents anyway. I think it's more a kernel issue, at least it was so on ICS until the great SubZero came into play. You should try his GPS-wrapper, I think it could help (preventing the GPSD getting incidentally corrupted) - find the flashable zip in the "3 files fix" post of Jrafael (see post No 3 above).
I am also very interested in getting our Vibrant's GPS as much functional as it can be. My own "fix" (check for Igps.zip) was giving me best results for accuracy (down to 3 m!) on some ROMs (JB 4.1 and 4.1.2, but not 4.2.1). I found out that there are many useless files (such as gps.xml or secgps.conf), and that GPS will still lock and pretty quickly even without gps.conf tweaks (and even without this file). However I don't have coding skills to organize my empirical findings.
@ MR - where did you get your RIL files from, with the Europe fix file I have no sound on phone call (I use instead the MP's RIL files, working fine for me).
Got the RIL from KB5 / CM10.1 - same boat here about sound. Gonna pull the downloads and check on it. If anything Ill re-up without the RIL and just GPS files and try again. Im getting what looks to by Bluetooth errors when trying to connect. Even when BT is turned off with the RemICS ROMs.
Whenever able CM10.1 use the Froyo KB5 RIL / Drivers and such. Some times it just doesn't work. The RIL and AGPS files from Froyo KB5 match the CM10.1 ROMS.
Testing my original fixes - the following so far are the outcomes:
RemICS-JB: Breaks sound. Version 1 RIL and GPS doesnt match CM10.1 / KB5.
Slimbean: No issues - Sound works fine. Confirmed the base RIL / AGPS files in ROM match CM10.1
HellyBean: No issues - Sound works fine. Confirmed the base RIL / AGPS files in ROM match CM10.1
CM10.1: No issues - Sound works fine. Confirmed the base RIL / AGPS files in ROM match CM10.1
FIRST
I will apologize to those who flash the original version on RemICS ROMs. It broke your call sound. Return to your nandroid and all should be well. For those on Slim / Helly / CM10.1 you are fine.
The RemICS ROM is very smooth but the RIL / GPS files don't match the Samsung T959 KB5 (also in CM10.1) files. Replacing 3 of the RIL files with the proper KB5 ones broke the sound. Ill keep at it.
For now - Version2 no longer replaces and RIL files. All the above GPS fixes will replace gps files / remove un-needed gps files.
First I want to thanks Mr. Moped for jb GPS fix great job.I am using remics jb 4.2 and moped GPS files NA-Version 2 it works good, I lost signal than it reconnect so that issue is fixed in Version 2 and sound is working also thanks .

Gps works good sound also ,only sound is bad when I put on speaker when i am on phone call to much noise . we used to control mic from in call volume control feature in advance setting and now we are missing that feature in 4.2.

Moped_Ryder, I just flashed 4.2.1 and flashed your USA version GPS fix after flashing GAPPs. I'm coming from 4.1.2, and only got locks down to 30m intermittently. The norm was 800 m accuracy (vik5 responded to some of my posts). More importantly, thank you for doing this post (clicked the Thanks) and appreciate you explaining the reasoning behind your updates as well.
*Update* First lock in GPS Checker occurred after 31s with 8 "fixed satellites". Marked improvement over GPS performance on Team RemICS 4.1.2 (highest I ever got was 3 satellites, lock took 242 s). Thanks Moped!!

Do me a favor if you have time. Do a Nandroid and try my Custom fix in post #2 (to include AngryGPS settings). Also combine that with the LeoGPS I linked as well.
See if that works any better for you. Revet back to your Nandroid after if you wish.

Hi, I tried to edit gps.conf file as mentioned. But whether I changed the supl_port to 7275 it remains 7276 it asks me to save the changes but doesnt save
Probably /system is not set for read/write.
Ill make ya a Flashable zip tonight if you give me the country you want from that list.

I don't suppose I could request a flashable zip for New Zealand (Oceania) gps settings?
I flashed from 2.3 to Cyanogen 10 then 10.1 and now have no gps when I did initially have it working in 2.3

Hi,
Thanx for the reply Moped I am using root explorer and set the r/o to r/w and opened the conf file in text editor.. I can edit the file but changes wont stick
I am living in sri lanka which comes under Asia — asia.pool.ntp.org Sri Lanka — lk.pool.ntp.org
Thank you again.
EDIT: I edited the gps.conf file using the es explorer (with root access enabled). there is a new file created inside root explorer gps.conf.bak and theres nothing inside gps.conf file (inside root explorer).
BUT gps.conf file (inside es explorer) has the changes I made. I rebooted but still the same
EDIT (update): Set the permission READ for all USER, GROUP, OTHERS and voila gps.conf file has the changes
Hope these info will help anyone having this issue
I can take care of it tonight.
If anyone wants to do it themselves its not hard.
1. Download and install a program called 7zip
2.. Download any of my GPS fixes
3. Right click on it (GPS fix). Browse thru 7zip to the /system/etc folder and drag the gps.conf file out to desktop (or somewhere).
4. Dont close the 7zip yet
5. Open the gps.conf file you just extracted and edit the NTP line to suit your needs. Save it.
6. With the archive still open in 7zip drag the edited gps.conf file into the /system/etc folder in 7zip. Overright old file.
7. Close zip. Its ready to transfer to your phone and flash it.
...You may be abnle to edit the gps.conf file right from 7zip (cant test Im at work right now)
I can always help someone with it. Just though peopl would like to try it out themselves too.

One can make a custom flashable zip right on his/her phone.
1. Use a file explorer which has archiving function (I have Solid Explorer) and unzip any flashable zip you want to change.
2. Make your changes.
3. Compress to zip again. IMPORTANT: you must ONLY include the content itself and NOT the uppest folder (if your zip has two folders, META-INF and System, first select the two and compress these two in a single archive). Otherwise it won't be cwm flashable.
To change the gps.conf file on the go use Faster GPS (NOT Faster fix) free in Playstore.
Moped...i tried the other zip; No good lock on this one. Flashed Custom zip file and changed settings in Angry GPS as instructed. No lock..no satellite signals. Reverting back to old setup..using your US version, which worked perfect.

[MOD] Front Facing Video fix for AOSP builds

In all of the current AOSP builds, the forward facing camera video fails because the information is pulled from msm8960-common. We share almost everything in common with the other devices, but our forward facing camera is of lower resolution so the base settings do not work with ff video on the xt907.
This is a relatively simple xml edit that I have played around with. I have tested on CM10.1 rc and CM10.2 nightly with the stock camera and hangouts video (it starts ok with hangouts, but I'm not where I can have a conversation with anyone right now so ymmv). It should work on all of the aosp based builds.
To apply use a root enabled file explorer, in directory...... delete your existing media_profiles.xml (or add .bak extension). copy this file, remove the .txt extension, and set permissions to rw-r-r then reboot.
I will try and get a flashable zip up later if anyone wants it. That way, you can simply flash it after flashing your rom of choice if you are running nightlies or like to try new builds often.
Let me know if it works or if anything looks like it needs tweaking.
********Update********
it may be necessary to clear data on camera/gallery app after updating the media_profiles.xml file
also adding flashable zip file

hmm, having some troubles getting the file to download - just showing up as a text in my browser....
edit: just copied to a notepad, saved it, and e-mail it to myself. downloaded it, placed it in the "system/etc" folder, changed permissions, rebooted.... but no dice for me, still get a force close. wondering if it has to do with me being on AOKP, since you said this is for AOSP ROMs....

Easiest way is to right click the file and save as.
Couple of questions. Which app is force closing, is it the camera? and Which AOKP are you on? I have most of them downloaded. I will try to flash it and see if I can figure it out.

well, the official message is that the gallery has stop responding (same as before) - but this happens when I attempt to launch camcorder in front-facing mode - so yes, it is camera, but I think android refers to it as "gallery".
i believe that video calls for hangouts works fine though (but I'll test again tonight).
I'm on the "unofficial" AOKP ROM

OK, thanks. You might have to clear the data in the gallery app, I'm not sure. I got the video camera to work on the AOKP 4.3 9/11 nightly, but I flashed the update zip that I made to test it and it was a fresh install. I couldn't do much testing though because I got the AOSP keyboard is force closing problem.
I will update the OP in a little bit with the flashable zip file.

got it working now.
i downloaded the file this time, e-mailed it to myself, copied it to the "system/etc" folder, changed permissions, renamed the org as .bak, renamed the new file as .xml, then rebooted. after reboot, I went into the camera app and once again got a force close. however, I tried playing around with the settings "record mode" from 1020 to 480, and then went back to FF camcorder, and it recorded! I then changed the "record mode" back to 1080, and FF camcorder worked just fine.
so I think you are correct, perhaps one needs to clear cache/data in the gallery prior to use.
thanks for the tip and the mod! nice work!
to resolve your AOSP keyboard force closing problem, try wiping system before installing the update. this worked for me.
Bit of thread necro, I know... But it's for a good cause.
Have you pushed this fix to CM? I am looking into what exactly needs to change in the source, I suppose we can fix this somehow from CM, and then all of the ROM's will be fixed (assuming they all update with the fix )
The flashable zip worked perfect for me. Thank you so much!

[XT907 Rom][Mod][UnLocked boot] Telstra JB 4.1.2-9.8.2Q-SD Swap, Xposed...

Update Why are people using v0 & not v3? V3 has less issues & both have the "no visable dialer issue" for those using stock data. The dialer is fuctional but you have no access without a play dialer app. Now is the time to try out those ones with many features above stock, not really a problem. Stock cannot sort out non phone number contacts- just one limitation of the invisible dialer.
I really like this app! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.startupmanager.full
Even the free version works well. Some apps show as user when they are not. I have it set to boot so that only 12 apps are running yet when I call for one of the "disabled" apps it works.
Use cwmr only.
Still no Dialer for those coming from stock ...79 or ...94.
Get this! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=intelgeen.rocketdial.pro
It has Many features. The bad review on the info page is a BAD REVIEW!
I am back on this as I still find it superior to even 98.30.1 for many things but Bluetooth in particular- connectivity & audio volume.
I found a path for all unlocked Vzw stock'ers, on 98.18.78 (same as 9.8.1Q-78) OR 98.18.94, to upgrade to a newer kernel and have a built in SD swap.
The first rom you flash is just a simple work around for Vzw users.
A facilitator that alters something in a way that Telstra needs to boot with your data partition.
Don't want to stay on this rom. Restore your former system & boot of any of the previous ones & keep your current data! That is right do not wipe data coming or going!
Those on Mhous33's DST or Deodexed roms may not need the Moparman371's facilitator flash. Testing.... Deodexed & DST works on their own!
Dialer & contacts show in launcher.:good::good::good:
Steps needed to install:
DO NOT WIPE ANY DATA!
Start on the newest ...94 OTA or Factory (or the one before ...78) [...66 alpha tester you are]
Start with your activated & rooted (vzw) stock (unlocked bootloader only)
Make sure you have booted up & done google login & used the stock messaging.
Go CWMR (6.0.1.3 or greater, TWRP will not install the attached rom). (see goodies for flashables)
Backup!
Mount system (& keep data- do not wipe anything)
Flash (install) http://d-h.st/2iE {Mhous33 rom users may skip}
Reboot system.
ReRoot on boot is ok but not needed.
Be sure stock messaging works.
Go cwmr
Wipe Cache & Dalvik
Flash/install the the attached rom.
Reboot. Answer NO at the disable recovery flash until xposed (or is it philz?) is set up & the nag is gone!
Update su binary.
Launch Xposed Installer.
Go Framework>Install/Update>reboot.
Ditto>Modules>Check the ones you want, there should be 4.
Reboot.
Enjoy.
Notes on this Rom:
Most important) DO NOT try to activate this system with Google login as you would a normal Rom.
It must be activated via your currently activated data partition.
Vzw users: You will never be able to do a privacy > factory data reset OR a recovery data wipe on this rom. Doing so & then rebooting will bork your radio partition & result is 3g only, but this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641
is the fix if you do.
Rarely): The Xperia launcher will need to be restarted when you see no home shortcuts visible right after a boot up. : Go app drawer> 3dots> launcher settings > swipe, move right to end > restart launcher.
I have found there were some apps causing this.
1) Use the Razr data widget at your own risk when on vzw it can break the radio.
2) Telstra base from ZaYAC-ua http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246081
3) Updated with: ...94
a) SM_BP_101032.021.32.80P baseband. I did this BB change recently & I am now noticing that ...78p BB is better WiFi connector, SO v3 has this BB now. flash this from recovery to get the Rabbit's original BB back: http://205.196.123.79/enfc9t0cjpog/06j4ygdmdhxlm22/xt907-98.18.78p-radio.zip
b) contacts.apk
4) BusyBox 1.21.1 Stephen (Stericson)
5) Xposed Framework http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401

Yea confirm that touch pal works fine, i found an apk online...everything else seems to be mostly working, including bluetooth which is great! subjectively it also seems to be getting better reception too, but its hard to say for sure.
Only problem i can see is that my sdcard and internal storage are swapped around...this is on the phone and also in windows. Not sure if i need to fix this or not...i cant get appextractor to run it cant find the sdcard.

Why are you running appex...? I doubt it works on xt907.
The swap is the point & works great. If want internal sd to hog internal memory just delete the the file 11extsd2internal from init.d. reboot.
Read the sd swap link in the op.
Ah ok i gettit now...i really like this rom, specially the cool swype with arrows keyboard.
Was trying to use appex to get old contacts n sms data etc...but i guess its waste of time trying to make it work?
Also can't get terminal emulator to work. I moved it to user and then upgraded to later version but it stops working whenever i try use it. tried moving it back to system but same prob.
Feel like this rom will either upgrade me from n00b or break my phone...or maybe even break me

Been using touchpal for couple of weeks now it works fine for dialling etc. but i can't figure out how to load previous contacts. I tried using appex to restore contacts from previous backup. it says its working but i don't find any contacts in touchpal after reboot. I have also got all my contacts as vcf files on my sdcard but can't find a way to import them. Also in my text message app when i receive a text and try to save the number it says it can't find the app to save the contact with. After much messing around with permissions etc i finally made touchpal save a contact if i type it in. Also touchpal doesn't seem to be creating any call logs so i can't find any of the previous numbers i dialled. It's all a bit frustrating really.
So i am thinking there must be some way to tell the phone that the contacts app is not the default one it is now touchpal, and perhaps then this will allow me to access android contacts and then import the vcf files? I suspect this is something to do with permissions and/ or android wanting to find a different app to manage contacts. I have been googling a bit but can't find anything useful about how android contacts work and how i can make this all work without having the native contacts app.

No, a) i don't know how to do that and b) i don't have any google stuff set up - i am trying to use the phone without using google's (skynet) services.
I remember importing vcf contacts before using the stock contacts app so i guess what i am really asking is if i can make touchpal do that...and it would be great if i could save numbers from text messages... many thanks as always
Can i upgrade from the original telstra to the v3 version here? And can it be done without losing apps/ messages/ data etc?
Thanks as always...

Can i go from this one back to an XT907 ROM? How about v4.4 or even v5 ROMs?
Anything I need to be aware of to avoid the dreaded bricking.
Thanks...
