[Q] link2sd help!! - Samsung Galaxy Mini

i have sgm with sandisk 16gb class 4 sd card. using cwm i partitioned my sd to ext3 4096mb size and 0swap.
when i did this in stock rom(earlier) my phone was stuck in a permanent boot loop and i had to reflash stock rom using odin.
when i tried this with a rom (xtreme g 2.3.7) it worked fine (at least i think so coz sd size shows 11.01 gb from 14.83gb) i installed link2sd and started installing apps. whenever internal memory got full i would go to link2sd and move each app to sd by choosing move to sd card and then again install apps till my phone got stuck in bootloop i had to wipe data using cwm.
what is the mistake? is the partition too high or i made a mistake in link2sd or what?
PS could someone tell me how to use link2sd(which options to tick to make apps move to sd ext? ive googled a bit but cant find anything

Y dont u use s2e ... ? If u have rooted ur phone and have cynogen mod it should work fine ..... s2e is better bcoz it automatically stores everything on sd ..... just an opinion
Ps : i dont think there is a mistake in the partitioning process u followed....

How to install/move apps to SD card after rooting my Galaxy ACE ??

Hello all,
I have upgraded my ace to Gingerbird 2.3.6
I have rooted it successfully.
Now my big question is how to move/install apps to my SD rather then my phone memory..
I know this question is very frequent over here.. but am very noob here.. am not sure of which ROM am using..
So please let me know some ways to move it ? anyting can be done with the emulator?

Press THANKS if I helped
Just follow this tutorial my friend.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476121
whether apps2sd and link2sd, which one is da best?? i`m in stock rom and using cf-root b84.. what is the difference between them?
there is 2 thinks of moving app to sd. moving app to fat32 sd format which is simpler, and move app to ext sd format (as internal memory extention).
for moving app to fat32 sd card format is easy. use app2sd or link2sd. But some widget will not work. and not all app can be moved, only app that support app2sd.
for moving app to ext sd card format, you will need to make ext partition on the sd card. please google or search in the forum, how to make ext partition, many ways....
then after ext partition exist, you can use a2sd darktremor script + a2sdGUI, or S2E available in market.
note: S2E work simpler but only for CM rom.

AFAIK, S2E works only with CM based ROM. This guy is on stock.
Yes, I am still in stock ROM.. confused of which custom ROM to use.. I am waiting for a stable release of CyanogenMod..
Very new to flashing of ROMs
App2Sd moves the apps only which supports them.. not all..
I am gonna follow saruboy's tuturial for moving..
And I have another question for you people..
I have installed CWM, but now what does
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Wipe dalvik cache
mean ? how we do it? sorry for the noob question.. but am very new
I would be very thankful to get a reply on this

I hope you know that your volume buttons are for moving up/down in CWM Recovery mode, Power Button to go back in previous menu and HOME button to apply the selection.
So,
Moving --> Volume Button
Select --> HOME
Go in previous menu --> Power button.
Now, Factory Reset means, it resets the current Installed ROM to its factory defaults. Meaning, It will erase all apps and your phone will be restored at the state like when you have bought the phone (for stock ROM) or you have just freshly installed a new custom ROM.
Wipe Cache Partition, clears the cache memory of ROM.
Now, dalvik files are the one which are made on application first run. For the default apps which comes with ROM by default, those app's dalvik cache will be generated on the First Boot.. This is the reason, why first boot after every custom ROM installation is slow. This dalvik-cache are generally have .dex or .deodex extension. Each app have it's own separated dalvik file. Now, by wiping this, means removing dalvik cache from OLD ROM before flashing a new one.
Anything else?
A big thanks to you Rushyang
Have hit the thanks for you
super job
thanks a ton a lot in handy

Download LINK2SD from market, partition your SD card for EXT2 partition(There's a really old tutorial by ingbrzy in Ace section) .And you are done.Of course there are many ways to move apps to SD but i feel this one is the most convenient, however its your choice.

So, I want to stay on stock ROM, I will root my phone and put actual CWM5 recovery.
What should I do to put apps2sd and increase phone memory? (I can make ext2 partition on cwm recovery SD partitioning)
How can I move dalvik cache on new ext2 partition on my SD card?
Could someone explain to me exactly what to do?
I want to stay on stock ROM but also to have benefits of many apps on my phone.
Thanks!

Use link2sd if you're on stock rooted rom.
-backup your sd to your pc, cuz partitioning will format your sd card, wiping everything on it.
-partition. Using cwm from your phone or minitool partition wizard on your pc.
-install link2sd, create mount script to fat32, or ext2 (whatever works). Then reboot (keep trying other formats if one doesn't work)
-start linking apps. This will move them to sdext partition.
Good luck.
Im interested to know exactly what to do on the phone after making a fat32 partition. What steps and/or procedure? Im not an expert and I dont want to brick a phone or someting like that. But really need more space for apps!

I recommend you an ext partition and not Fat32 partition on your SD card ... I've a SD card of 16gb class 2, I partitioned my SD card with CWM Recovery and assigned to a partition of 2Gb app with swap 64Mb, for background app ... Now I have in my SGA 115 apps

Help on sd-ext

I partitioned my sd card a while ago while still using stock rom, and it worked fine, I was linking apps to it using Link2sd no problem. Now I have flashed the miracle v4 rom and the partition cannot be mounted by Link2sd, even though there's still 1gb missing from the sd card space. help?

recreate mouting script! until the app recognized it ... first time i upartioned my sd it took me 3 atemps until it worked fine
After formatting sd-ext in CWM, it'll usually be in ext3. Select that when recreating mount scripts and reboot. Works in first attempt for ME
for the details you can take a look at the attachment of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27177965&postcount=3
I have the same problem with all roms that i have tried. Given that almost all my apps live on my ext2 partition, this is a big problem when i want to try out new roms. i dont want to have to install 100+ apps again even if i have them backup on titanium.
I want to keep my partition ext2. will recreating my mount script several times over work? or is there something else i should keep in mind?
Does cyanogen mod not support having an ext2 partition?
I updated my galaxy ace from 2.2.1 to gingerbread 2.3.6 then I rooted it and installed cm7.2 before that I made backup of gingerbread stock rom. And when I try to restore back on stock rom, it shows MSG, sd-ext file not found. What was the cause and what's use of that file?
Had you partitioned your sd card to begin with? If not then you don't have an sd ext

Any other solution than Link2sd

Hi everyone, I wonder is there any other way to partition the sdcard to move app to SD card other than link2sd. Because whenever I install a room cook,I always flash my X8 to room stock, then root, xrecovery, and partition the SD card to install link2sd (I used 8GB class6 sdcard) . But I also know that if I partition the sdcard too much it would be harmful for the sd card. So I want to know is there any other way to have more space to install app to X8 without partition the Sd card? Or if anyone know how to install another room without having to wipe everything including the data (which means I have to partition the card again) ?
sorry about my English grammar. It's not my first language
The answers are.
1.No there is no other way to increase your internal memory without partitioning your SD card.
2.if you don't want to install all apps again and again then either use the batch feature of titanium backup or first make. Nandroid backup of your ROM after installing all the apps.
now when you switch to another ROM then go to recovery --> backup and restore--> advanced restore and then click restore data..
Hope that it works for you.

android's native app to fat partition maybe useful for you .
I never use link2sd & I never ran out of internal memory ,how? Simply I install all games on sdcard(i mean android_secure folder) & leave apps in internal ,recommanded .just try this way and you'll see how much free space remains for you

[Q] SD partitioning

Hy everybody,
My question is at the bottom
Internal memory is not enough on galaxy ACE ? sd card can be partitioned and used with "llink2sd" as internal memory.
I did :
- Using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition I partitioned SD card to two primary fat32 partitions.
- I rebooted my phone with sd card in it
- EXPECTED it to be mounted correctly, to run Link2SD to format second partition to ext3 or keep it fat32 or wathever.
BUT :
Android says that sd card is damaged
Reasons :
- Android expects one partition formatted in FAT32 with no MBR (?) in the begining of the memory :silly:
Solution :
- Partition memory with a tool that can tell Android how to read MBR or how to deal with multi partition sd card. tools like Rom manager.
My question is, is there another way to tell Android how to deal with my sd card ? without changing the rom ? using for example terminal emulator ? or can you please explain to me how I can use Rom manager to partition ? cause I didn't succeed with it.
and pleeease I'm just fed up with answers like :
"but why do you need to partition ?"
"why don't u just use app2sd ?"
"why don't you get a girlfriend instead of spending all your time on a phone that you hate ?"
NB : I updated my phone manually to 2.3.6 then rooted it. I don't want to use custom roms EXCEPT if you give me a hint about the best roms arround
Thank you in advance
I used cwm to partition my sd card and it works fine

1. you can re-partition your sd card to one partition (FAT, I think) by partitioning software
2. boot Clockworkmod recovery (Home + Power)
3. Advanced > partitioning sd card
4. Choose how much you want
5.done
6.Finally I suggest you install PSN Memory Mod

No you only need to install PSN.
It is a DATA2EXT SCRIPT. I am happy with it.
I prefer SD-EXT > 1GB, its enough, and you need a Class 6 sdcard

Welcome to the forum.
Our Ace (and other phones) doesn't recognize a SD card partitioned with MiniTool Partition Wizard.
Instead download CWM 5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291327
Then turn the phone off. Reboot into recovery mode by holding the power and the home button till the Samsung logo appears for the second time. Choose apply update from SD card and install CWM.
Reboot into recovery again. This time there should be the CWM recovery.
Select Advanced > Partition sdcard
But backup the data on your SD card using your computer before doing that and restore them afterwards.
Then reboot the phone and Link2SD and the OS will recognize the card. However, this method will create an ext partition which is better for that use.
For ROMs:
This is the best I have found so far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173576
If you want Cm, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212438 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199575
If you want a standard Android, flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181854
Please be so kind and click thanks if I helped you.

Works with any kernel, any Rom. But backup everything on your memory card before partitioning. Partitioning erases everything on it. And by the way, if the commands I gave on my thread haven't worked for you, check for my previous post on the thread. These commands must work on gingerbread and the ones in op should work for cm10.1

Actually, you can use Minitool Partition Wizard to be use with Link2SD.
First make sure your phone is rooted.
Second, by using minitool make 2 partition on sd card.
First Partition make sure It PRIMARY and file system is FAT32
Second Partition also make sure it PRIMARY and file system is EXT3 or EXT4
(I would like to recommend EXT3 because many roms support this file system)
Install the Link2SD, open the app, select the file system and reboot.
You will get your Link2SD worked.
ps : How about using Final S'Periance rom with Memory Mod kernel. Just do the SD Card Partition and flash the rom. All your problem with internal memory will gone.

Link2SD will work but your first partition won't be recognized, at least in Jelly Bean.

I have ROOT yet I have minimal internal memory?

I have just ROOTED my S5830 and installed app2SD in the hope of moving as many aps as possible to my SD card.
I tried Link2SD but I had problems and it would not transfer anything, even if I formatted my SD card with CWM.
I was sucessful with app2SD but for some reason I was only allowed to move 2 apps to my SD card.
At this point I had 62Mb of free memory on my phone. I only installed one app, Angry Birds, and this reduced my free memory to 19Mb of free memory. The app was transferred to the SD card.
So where am I going wrong?
I have done everything possible to free up my phone memory but I am not allowed to transfer anything.

My SD card is partitioned. I've used minitools, gparted and the partitioning tool on my phone.
Is there something that I should be doing besides getting link2sd on Google.Play?
So far I can only transfer 3 apps, which isn't all that helpful with my limited phone storage space.
Flash stock rom via odin and try all steps again. I think
your internel storage is used by any big custom rom.BTW Which Rom you are using now stock rom or custom rom ???

easy steps for your brother
1 choose a good cm or custom or stock as you wish
2 if you wanna stay on current rom stay on it
3 uninstall all apps on sd card or internal memory
4 go to recovery
5 wipe cache
6 wipe dalvik cache
7 format cache
8 format sd card
9 go to advanced option and create a second partition of any size {prefer making till 512 mb and if more than only up to 1 gb}
10 if you are using stock rom then search for a kernel which support ext partition support and int.d support
11 flash that kernel if on stock rom
12 reboot into recovery and mount system in mount and storage option
