290MB of RAM? Why not make it 512MB - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

I saw that our phone has 512MB of RAM, but only 290MB is accessible. Can we Make it 512MB instead of just 290MB? Our phone is very slow

and what ram should the hardware use ?
and it cannot be done!

We can extend the amount if games we can play by using CHAINFIRE 3D from Google play (Phone needs to be rooted) visit "new aces" blog for a full list of games that are playable with Chainfire (Sims 3, Temple run, plants versus zombies as well as other well known games)
Just follow the settings on new aces blog and you'll soon be playing descent HD games
Don't forget to thank me
The usual "Xx James xX" only on mobile...

That and the CPU is ARM6 not ARM7.....
Chainfire can help but if you want to play the latest games get the latest handset :good:

The only prob is armv6.. thats it

Guys guys guys
where are we taking this
STOP !

The problem is in both CPU and GPU
cpu :-arm v6
gpu:-video core - 4
observe ,that some games like brothers in arms which work in original ace doesnt work in work in our ace -i .that is due to gpu .
ace has got another gpu which is better compared to our ace-i gpu

[Q] Too little RAM?

I've seen other phones that will be released this Q1 or Q2 having 1GB of RAM whilst the Optimus 2X only has 512MB.
I myself have kind of got the feeling that 512MB's would be enough and that 1GB is unnecessary, but I would like your opinions, and maybe an explenation to why 512MB's would be enough?
Since Atrix won't be released in Sweden that pretty much leaves it to Optimus 2X or the Galaxy S2, but the S2 will probably be like 200 dollars more. Would that really be worth the money RAM-wise (other differences doesn't matter that much to me)?
I'm of the mind that 512MB will be fine for the forseeable future. If you consider that the most demanding apps are typically games, and the most impressive games (since GameLoft, Epic etc have signed on with nVidia...) will be developed to Tegra 2 specs, I can't imagine those Tegra 2 specs would preclude running on 512MB of RAM. Following that assumption, by the time 512MB of RAM isn't enough, you will probably be due for an upgrade anyway.
I'm starting to think that the only reason the Atrix has 1GB is because the WebTop mode runs well over 512MB in typical operation. Then, of course, the Galaxy 2 has a gig so that it doesn't look inferior on paper.
Just my conjecturous 2 cents.

Thanks for your reply! I also thought about the RAM being for the WebTop but then Samsung released the S2 lol.. I would probably agree with you that 512MB will be enough in at least the coming year or so, hell, you can almost run a game like World of Warcraft on 512MB RAM.
Maybe Motorola and Samsung are just putting in hardware that is ahead of the future to atract the customers that want 'the best'. Of course, they are probably slightly better but from what I understand it is kind of hard to fill up 512MB RAM which they also say in Anandtechs review of the Atrix.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4165/the-motorola-atrix-4g-preview
If only LG could put in at least 768MB I wouldn't have to worry
Have to agree with Sjael about the 512MB of RAM in the Atrix being for the laptop dock. In that preview you posted in the benchmark tests the optimus came out on top of the atrix pretty much every time. So don't let the 512 MB of RAM detour you!
I would not mind 512MB RAM(Actually, you can use only 372MB of ram because of the android system)
512MB ram is not that small, and there is no app that needs more than 512MB.
I'm using Optimus 2X, but 512MB RAM was okay

'Okay' doesn't sound too convincing. Could you tell us about the phone in general? Are you satisfied, how is the battery life etc?
Battery time is simuliar with Samsung Galaxy
LG home sometimes reset after I play some heavy 3D game. I think that its because of RAM, but this problem does not happen if you change your home program

Really ? Oh, this is a great news !
1GB is better than 512MB
but....... i think 512 is enough, also
Well we now have some empirical evidence...
The +64MB RAM kernel gives back 64MB to the user and it makes a *huge* difference to performance in general day to day use for me. I no longer need to use minfreemanager and my launcher and background apps hardly ever get shut down by the system now.
I used to be of the mind that 512 was enough (=372) but with +64 (=436) there's a world of difference.
So, in my experience 512 is a constraint.
Its not the 512mb itself being the limit here, its the way these 512mb are used and how Android is configured to manage the memory by the manufacturer - but yes more ram to work with are allways a benefit.
512mb is plenty in the HTC Desire which default has about 440mb for the user, while the LG only has 372mb (more ram allocated for video than the Desire perhaps ?)
Furthermore the default minfree setting in the Desire is configured to allways leave 140mb free, while the LG is default configured to only leave around 80mb free.
This cause the LG to run low on memory, needing the system to free up memory by shutting down apps that are preloaded, faster and more often than on the Desire.
The extra 64mb you free with the other Kernel can be configured either as more ram for preloadet apps or as just free ram - depending on how agressive you set the minfree setting. The result you get will be a combination of this - if minfree are still set to 80mb then the 64mb are just used to preload more apps, which you will feel as a benefit if switching to one of these preloaded apps, but wont feel as a benefit if you need to run an app that use up more than the free 80mb and which hasnt been preloaded. On the other hand you could divide it and set the minfree setting to 110 and let the rest 34mb be used to preload apps in, that way a running app could use more ram before it would need to shutdown preloaded apps.
I cant say which setting would be the best overall - but for certain the configuration of the memory works better in the Desire than the one in the LG - despite both having 512mb ram

+1 that would be nice
"Yesterday" we have single-core phones, now we have dual cores with lot of power and we talk about OC?
I know what to touch for overclocking the GPU in Tegra...but I think it's a bit useless and battery wasting...
Why would you want to OC your GPU? Are there ANY games out there that lag?
However another intersting thing to do would be to lower the memory the GPU reserves e.g. only 64mb instead of 128. That way you could have more free RAM for the OS.
as if in a PC
IMO OCing gpu will not give any significant change though
The xoom is 333mhz GPU ,LG 2X is 300mhz, may be it‘d up to 333mhz to impact the 3D game performance .

Its not hardware related. Its a boot paramater, so yes you can change it. Thought i dont know how.
For certain tasks GPU speed would probably be preferable over CPU. Also, is there any voltage control for the GPU? Slight OC + UV or just UV would be pro, combined with the same on the CPU.

use chainfire3d
It will "crawl" if successed opened.
DOWNLOAD games tweaked for galaxy mini by searching terms like galaxymini games blogspot ,or lycanbd or andropalace in google and downloading games from these websites.
FOR ADVANCED USERS:
1.create swap partition of 128 to 256 Mb to play temple run like games quite smoothly.
2.dont overclock galaxy mini over 787 MHZ as it dis-stabilizes mini are degrades phone performance
3.u can force gpu rendering by editing egl.cfg file (SEARCH XDA FORUM FOR DETAILS)
4.u can use chainfire 3d and reduce texture size and lower all settings, and select qualcom as plugin.
5.LASTLY u can switch to different roms as different roms give different performance in different games.
HOPE THIS HELPS
Don't push your phone to hard

Not Optimized for tegra?

Why Asphalt 7 and Need For Speed Most Wanted's graphics are minimal? no blur no reflection....nothing...why? I'm reading the comments on market and averibody says that the game grate graphics but on my tegra 2 phone (optimus 2x) nothing special....these games are not optimized for tegra 2 powered devices or what?
As much as I hate to say this about our phone, the Optimus 2X among the dual cores holds one of the weakest graphics processors.
Sure, when it first came out it was a beast of a phone both in terms of CPU and GPU. However, once other brands caught up in the battle, it was quite clear that Tegra 2 was the least proficient in graphics.
Funny how you'd expect a company like Nvidia that specialises in GPU units to make the best GPUs in any area, especially smartphones. However, even Tegra 3, while still powerful in its own right, is still vastly overshadowed by the GPUs on the other quad core devices.
You probably see "Tegra optimised" because of Nvidia's marketing attempts to compensate for their weak processors. It's becoming increasingly common knowledge that in smartphones, Nvidia have been useless in upholding their reputation built from computer GPUs.

Overreaction cause mostly it is because in settings T2/P990 is recognized as low-end device.

No, GS2 GPU is faster. The Tegra GPUs are actually a pain in the ass to code for if nVidia doesn't offer support. Devs have to split graphics processing onto 8 or 12 cores. The situation is quite similar with PS3 CPU, where devs also have to split graphics processing onto 7 different cores.

I"m confused by Electronic Arts.
I have an old single-core Motorola Defy + and on it that other racing game Fast5 from Gameloft runs superfluid with real-time reflections.
Now why in the hell does EA opt to choose for minimal graphics on my and other phones.
Imho it"S better to have an adjustible slider to have settings from low to max graphics on the new need for Speed on Android.
The same with Riptide by Vektor Unit.
Let people choose for themselfs dammit.

-Any OC ability(cpu/gpu) ? And does it improve performance by lots?
-Is 512mb ram a big bottleneck ? Or does tegra2 do good anyway?
-Some links to good roms ? It's interesting to see features before getting the phone.
-How much free ram on ICS ?
-And finally what's the biggest antutu benchmark you guys got ?

Lol I was using a 2x previously and now I have changed to xperia play to play emu games.
1. Yes for games with low requirements(e.g. Tample Run 2) For latest big games they only have 20~30 fps on ICS. I am not sure which game you are talking about
2. 512mb is rlly a bottleneck for ICS. Although I only have solely Firefox running, if I open 3 tabs, 2x will be laggy. However, it can handle multiple apps with low ram requirement. 2x has the strongest tegra2. T2 is good in gpu but weak in video format support at its times.

I buy only second-hand phones cause it's better than buying new with this kind of money. You have any recomendations ? Also are there in that forum any good roms for xperia play ? It loads veeery slow for me (I'm in bucharest) and poor translations .

If you are not a core android fans and not keen in getting a gaming phone, I would recommand touch 5+another phone. Touch 5 has great spec and ios has great compatibility for apps.(Even the "oblique" touch4 can run most games and apps today though a lot are laggy due to only 256 mbram...) It can outweigh all android phones in almost all games in similar price range.
Maybe you can also consider Nvidia Shield(299 US Dollars) in near future, it might be a fantastic gaming gadget.
For xperia play, I am using AuroraPlay(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124442&nocache=1)
