[Q] my phone charges so slowly - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everybody
i have a problem with my mobile which is charges so slowly
and the big disaster is that, the battery drains out even with the charger plugged in and that happens if i used it(surfing the internet or playing a game) meanwhile
the thing is that, this problems doesn't happen to me before and it started to happen to it about a weak ago
i'm using [ROM] [ICS] KingDroid ICS NoteMania v8.0 by Dr.Taly [AROMA]
many thanks for your help in advance

Usually points to a fact the the usb port or charger. Try a different charger, also try cleaning the usb port and try again. Or may be you need to get it checked.

i tried the pc usb charging
but it also remains

Try using a different cable also, then you know if it's the peripherals or your charging port.

Turn off wifi.make some space in the ram.unplug charger.reboot and then make some space on ram again while wifi is off and plug the charger.
Worked for me

If you go to "parameter" >" About device" > "Status" > "Battery" while charging, it should show:
-USB if charging from PC USB connector (low charge current and longer charge time).
-A/C if charging from wall plug charger (higher charge current and shorter charge time).
If not showing A/C even if you're usin wall plug charger, that means that your charger or cable is faultly.
Please check this.

[Q] Whats With Charging This Thing?

When I first got the phone earlier this week, I could plug it into the charger in the wall just fine with no issues, it would just charge. Now suddenly it started telling me USB connected and goes to the MTP screen and of course locks up the phone.
I can of course bypass this by switching the phone to mass storage mode, but since I have Kies and use it occasionally, it would be nice to not have to switch that setting each time depending on my charging/syncing situation.
Why would it have not locked it up with the MTP screen originally when charging from the wall but now it does? The results are the same whether its plugged into the wall or the USB port on the computer. I have two Captivates bought brand new on a family plan, both do this now with any combination of chargers and USB cables, wall USB port, or car charger. Neither one has a common application installed since the other is my girlfriends who hasnt done much to it yet, so Im blaming the phone itself for now...

Interesting. I just checked with my BB charger and they dont do it using that charger, but they do it as soon as I connect the stock charger again.
Im wondering if its a voltage sensing circuit thats tripping due to the different voltages which should be applied - either wall charger or USB port. Maybe for some reason my wall chargers arent putting out enough voltage and its thinking its a USB port, but the BB charger is putting the right amount of voltage out?
Am I on base as to how it differentiates between wall or USB port? The number of pins obviously doesnt matter as all the cables have all the pins in them, unlike some charger cables which only have the power and ground. The only thing I can think of is that it uses the amount of voltage/current to tell the difference and create its reaction.
~T.J.
Sounds like a problem with the stock charger, maybe usb cable alignment. My iphone wall adapter does this with the samsung cable but the samsung wall adapter doesn't, same with my car charger from att. Also I have a $5 walmart car charger that has a cable that splits into both a mini usb and a micro usb that isn't a real usb cable, it's charge only. That cable has no problem on any wall or car adapter. I believe the phone detects if its connected by checking voltage on a data pin (just a guess really) so if a nonstock charger is used it assumes that it is a computer. But it may also be a data signal that is given off by the charger.

did you try a new charger and if so, did it work? I've had my captivate since Thursday and on Thursday it charged and everything fine, but then yesterday,
a) no computer I connect it to while recognize it, no matter what I have it set too and have latest drivers installed
b) if I charge it, after I unplug it, it locks up to black screen and I have to remove the battery to get it to work
c) I also have an in-dash touchscreen monitor in my car that has a usb port because it works with an ipod. I plugged the usb into to use it as a car charger, unplugged it, same thing
d) it did say usb connected after it was unplugged, but I switched from mass storage to ask on connection and it went away
so is an actual wall charger the solution?

and now I unplug it, and if it locks, it will not unlock, just black screen
I have to take out the battery and then only way to get it to turn back on, is to plug it back in the wall

^^^Ouch that's not right, if you can't figure it out you may need to re-flash or just bring it back under warranty, or insurance

[Q] dx v20 not charging battery while on usb

i have noticed that using a Dx v20 does not charge my battery when pluged to computer via usb, does anyone know why.
its same with sd mounted/not
Charging by USB is not the best.
e.g;
10 mins of charging by AC = 9-10%
10 mins of charging by USB =
2-3% , less even :O
Leave a thanks if I helped!
d
on your mobo maybe, mine can do 1.5amps on a single usb, but that is not the issue, i dont cary a wall charger on work just cable.

And what kernel are you using?
EDIT: Alfs?
If yes, there you may have the reason for your problems.
Hint: "update-rom-chargemon+vold-AlfsKernel.zip"
Charging via USB is very slow on all roms/kernels.
It is because USB can give only 500mA and phone is not taking more.
Normal charger not have that limit.
Plug phone and run logcat, you will see that

Battery charing issue - pls help!

My motoroid xt720 is having problem with battery charging and usb connection with PC through the phone USB small port:
-2 days ago I restored to original EU rom through this port successfully. Before this point of time, battery charging and usb connection with PC through the phone USB small port was OK.
-then I can not charge the battery and or connect to the PC through the usb cable via phone small usb port. However, I can now still use the same usb cable and port to restoreoriginal EU rom for the phone and use the same charger to charge the battery with external charging pad (not through phone.)
I use another charger with small usb port to charge the battery through the XT720 phone but it still can not charge.
Installing the new customed rom CronosX, but the same problem happen.
So I guess that the USB port on the phone has hardware issues or software issues with the phone.
Can someone give me advice how to check or fix this error? Thanks!

Galaxy Note charging very slowly

Hi, I've been using a note for about a month and a half now, and all has been well.
Until about two weeks ago, when my phone started charging very slowly via USB. Using a 2.1amp charger, it takes about 4-6 hours to charge, and about 7-8 hours using a 1.1amp USB charger. The less said about 0.5 amp chargers the better!
However, when I'm charging using a 1.1amp charger (Standard USB output), often when at 15 or less percent of the battery, if I still use the phone while plugged in, it actually drains power faster than the USB port can provide it! It will often shut itself down and give me a "extreme low battery" screen, meaning I can't turn it back on until it has some charge in it... which can take up to 20 minutes via the same USB port/wall adaptor
Running stock 2.3.6, unrooted.
You could have a faulty or dirty micro-usb port or a faulty battery.

I have the same problem. My Note is new and I don't think the battery is faulty
With stock ICS in comparison to GB, it consumes more juice thus takes longer time recharging.
This is normal, but sad.

Same here
I have the exactly same problem and ended up here, while searching on google if there are othere with similar observations. I can as well comfirm that during playing certain games the phone looses charger faster than it can be recharged.
Beside that my phone overally looses battery much faster than it used to be.
I found out that you can recharge the phone considerably faster when it is completely turned off.
[edit:] The problem started after the update to Android 4.0.
Now I have no way out but to root my SGN running stock ICS that allows me to do more customization.
I am using SetCPU to limit CPU clock at 1200 MHz (from 1400 max). Only certain apps really requiring CPU power, I specifically allow them to run at max MHz.
This helps reducing recharging time a lot...a lot (even much faster than charging when on GB) and allows more time in outdoor uses. And there is no lag.

I've found the total opposite, I find charging in ICS (Stock not a custom as I've not tried one) to be loads faster at charging than in Gingerbread.
What programs do you have constantly running? The more that's running, the more juice it's gonna use and therefore the slower the charging will be.
How long does it take to charge with the phone off?

Same problem with charging as well.I an using ics 4.0.3 cpw version and it draws more than it gets from the usb charger.
I also experienced slow charging before.
What I do is to close all the applications and see if that works.
Same thing happened wid me... Its Kernel fault.. Try changing kernel.. It will help
Noted by the BEAST!!
Look for runaway tasks consuming high CPU and maxing out the CPU clock rate. You can use a CPU monitor like System Panel Lite, and also simply feel the phone at the rear near the camera. If it is hot you have a problem of some process going nuts.
This is a classic problem I've faced on ICS and I've given up with it and gone back to GB. No problems since.

Just to clarify, a standard USB port on a pc/laptop can only provide 500mA not 1.1amp. Not sure where you got this value from. Therefore it will not provide anywhere near the required current, especially if you are actively using the phone. Most cheapo car chargers are also innadequate at 500mA. The standard sumsung wall charger only provides 1000mA.
What 2.1Amp charger are you using? Its not recommended to use more than the standard samsung charger outputs !
You need 1000 mA (1 A) charger for proper recharge even on GB.

1A is the standard Samsung charger.
So is it okay to force the note to use the 1 A ? standard it is set on 700mA
You can adjust the charging control with Voltage Control
I too started having this problem yesterday after updating to a recent version of Visual Voicemail Plus. Even charging from the wall outlet could barely keep up. Turns out the problem was VVMP continually polling NON-STOP for voicemail. Reverted back to older version and problem ceased immediately.
My point....your problem might be software and not hardware. I'm still on rooted and overclocked GB with franco.kernel.

data cable will charge slower via usb port.
I'm using non-data cable to charge via usb port, it's way faster. Only cons is that u won't be able to transfer any data.

I have been using HTC & Samsung wall chargers, Belkin 1A in car. All chargers provide fast recharge. However, the quality & length of USB cables are crucial.

Just to clarify things, the 2.1amp charger is a USB battery pack, and the 1.1 amp charger is a USB wall adaptor. I'm running 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD, unrooted.
There are two charging rates, slow via the USB data cable, and faster via the charger (where the D- and D+ pins of the USB are shorted). If it thinks that you are using a computer USB when you are in fact using a charger, your charging will be at the lower rate.
I had this problem of slow charging and the cause was a dirty connector, get some electronic connection cleaner from an electronics store and spray the USB connection and cables - that fixed my slow charging problem.
Andrew
I'll give that a try, thanks

[Q] phone discharging when on PC USB or car charger

Hi! Here on XDA I found few similar situations, with various phone models, but no right answer...
I have a brand new battery (but same situation was with the old one) and when I connect my Note to the PC USB connector or when I plug it in my car charger, phone is still discharging if the screen is on. If the screen is off and if I close all apps, wi-fi and GPS it is charging but very, very, very slowly. Only if I plug phone into wall charger it doesn't matter if the screen is on or off, is it wi-fi or GPS turned on or off, phone is charging normally. I try few different cables, but still the same. Computer have only USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports so it isn't a USB 1.1 case. I have also HTC HD2 and it is charging normally no matter where it is plugged - wall, PC, car (same chargers, same cables, same PC...) HD2 is charging in my car even if the GPS and navigation is turned on.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Laptops tend to only put out 500ma which isn't typically enough for the Note. It cod be a mixture of low amperage chargers and slow charging cables. The Note (imo) is pretty inefficient on stock roms.

Thank you! I'm not charging it over laptop, but over desktop PC and in my car. I try to charge it with Samsung original cables, with HTC original cables and with cheap china made cables, all 3 cases - same. Also I'm not using stock ROM but SOKP KITKAT ROM
