A quick question regarding kernels.... - XDA-University

i've managed to track down a custom rom (didnt care for it) for my mid7048 and am currently working on my own based off the stock rom. But, the kernel that comes stock does not allow charging through the usb port (i know i know) the custome one does but is in the zip. My question is what would be the file name of the kernel? Also, how would i go about adding overclocking? Any help would be appreaciated and credits would be given. This is a great littletablet but has seen next to no development.
Thanks in advance.

Brother , copy BOOT.IMG and modules (if exists) from custom kernel .zip file and i know nothing about overclocking of a kernel .
Good luck

[MOD] T959UVJFD Kernel support in newer builds (Flashable .zip)

I've created a zip archive that can be flashed via Clockworkmod Recovery to replace the necessary files in /system/lib and /system/bin to flash a kernel built against T959UVJFD onto a newer build (thanks to eugene373 for the list of necessary files^_^).
Incase anybody is wondering... I've flashed this myself with no issues and bluetooth works fine.
Edit: A good example of this is flashing one of JAC's or kingklick's kernels onto the new OTA UVJI6 firmware .
Forgive the noob question, but will this allow us to flash Jac's XMOD kernels on a JI6 rom?
Nvm found the answer myself. For any other noobs wondering, the answer is yes. Duh
Thanks for posting this!
You're welcome.

Perfect. Just what I was looking for!
thanks
this also works my my kernels
thanks a bunch man!
Indeed, I should change that in the OP.
...and you're welcome .
Sweet, I am gonna give this a try right now.
Edit: Nope. Phone hangs at Vibrant screen.
Worked perfectly for me. Saw the other threads about this and just hadn't had time to give it a go but I am now running Jac's uv/oc/cf.

Can you describe the steps you took to flash this? I came from stock JFD (repartition and EFS clear checked) to JI6 (nothing checked) and then flashed the .zip with CWM and it worked fine.
Spoke too soon. I just flashed the zip without JAC's kernel because I forgot I deleted it from the phone after I installed JI6. So I pushed the 1.1 OCUV kernel to the phone, flashed it and it worked. Seems a little choppy though but I will give it a few minutes and maybe another reboot to see if it settles in. Thanks for the work.
Edit: Oh yeah, it's frikkin rippin now! Thanks
Thanks. I haven't quite decided to do this yet, and it helps to have an easier way to do it. I need to go search later, but anyone care to save me time and explain what the downsides are to reverting these libraries to earlier versions?
Didn't work for me...
I tried to flash using colockwork, got stuck at vibrant screen...
So you have to flash this and JAC's kernel at the same time? I'm a noob so please help me out...

Nightfall983, you can flash in one step using clockwork if you wish using the zip I built a few days time back, you can find it here.

Yes. Flash back support then BEFORE rebooting flash the kernel you want. Or use the all in one zip posted above.
Thanks...
Thank you guys for your help... I'm trying the all in one now...
So, just to be clear, from ji6, I reboot with clock work, flash old kernel support, when while still in clockwork, proceed to flash jac's kernel, right, then reboot? Or can reboot after applying old kernal support, then go crazy flashing kernels?

Flash kernel in recovery just like you flash the rom and gapps.

1. If you wish to flash the kernel, all you have to do is take out your camera (make sure flash is on) and snap a picture of it, then you will have successfully flashed the kernel.
2. If you wish to change the kernel, what you have to do is put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and wait for a pop. Once you hear the pop, you have successfully changed your kernel.
3. If you wish to replace the kernel all you have to do is throw it out, and get a new kernel.
Hope this helps!

[Q] low speed on stock rom

hello guys!!
well it's been only a month since i bought ace but it's kinda slow nowadays.
i really would appreciate if anyone can suggest safe methods of increasing speed of stock rom with tweaks and increase free space on ram.
Thanx
and one more thing, i'm running low on internal memory. so which is the best app/script out there which can work similar to s2e for cm? i've realized that one can install alot of appz by that script without running low on space. so please suggest something for my stock rom ddkq8.
Stock samsung roms are always slow. But the latest one i.e 2.3.6 ddkq8 rom is the fastest among stock roms. U can flash that rom via odin.but custom roms are many a times faster than samsung ones. So y dont u flash a custom rom. It has a better rom managment as well. Hence speedy.
from XDA app
Press THANKS if I helped
well i'm already on 2.3.6 but don't know i'm afraid of flashing any custom rom. :--(
why are u even here if u scared.
Tgars ur choice. But its quite safe provided u do it the right way

i can assure you if you fullfill following things then you are good to go
1. Read English
2. Use Serach Button
3. Do not do some R&D things on your own [like flashing other device roms+kernels , rom manager , similar things]

Your phone will less likely bricked if you don't use ODIN much. I try to stay away from ODIN most of the time and just flash ROMs via CWM whenever possible

UPDATE: Thanks to 2 people @nfsmw_gr and @ktoonsez for helping me. Truth be told nfsmw_gr told me Ktoonsez kernal would work but I was a bit apprehensive to try because the GE phone is slightly different (We all love his Kernals) so after faith and testing the 4.2.2 KT747 MFD kernal works on touchwiz so everything works now. Wifi, browser everything im typing this on the Barebones ROM. So I will be headed back to the kitchen soon and hopefully this will get some builds going with others. Have fun TOUCHWIZ WORKS

FIXED SEE ABOVE :I've flashed several TW ports and I keep running into the WiFi issue these are I9505 MGA builds I've tried different things but I am confident this has to do with the stock kernal which houses the WiFi modules and since I'm not knowledgeable on building a kernal I'm going to have to learn and I am reaching out for help in the community. That being said we have working touchwiz but the WiFi does not work and some other little bugs but for the most part I need help again with kernal and wifi
I do know about you but WiFi is a deal breaker for me
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk 2
WiFi is definitely a deal breaker. I'm unfortunately not far enough along in my Android education to help you resolve the issue. I am wondering if you've posted this outside of this thread? There are some very talented ROM packagers out there and I've found a few of them to be quite responsive. I became a big fan of Scott's CleanRoms and messaged with him through his forum. He's on a semi-build vacation but my guess is that he'd be responsive to a fellow ROM builder.
I'll be watching closely and ever eager to try the ROM.
Yes I'm getting help from some other talent like @iB4STiD on getting possibly a Kernal that is what is breaking the WiFi and we do have Kernal source for 4.3 out already.
Hopefully we can get something soon that's the key
FYI I am trying to get some help or advice from @ktoonsez as well

Try using /system/lib/modules from original i9505 TW rom, or give a go at my .zip which is stock MGA kernel + stock modules.
The only thing that fixed WiFi for me when I had this issue with Omega ROM, I flashed NOS HL WiFi fix (or something like that) several times that was on first post with odin but that didn't make my wifi work again.
I read an old thread on xda about HTC Sensation where a Senior Member was mentioning that if the files in /system/modules folder was from another kernel the WiFi wouldn't work.
So I used stock MGA boot.img and extracted the modules folder from stock ROM, placed them all in one flashable .zip and voila!
I flashed and WiFi was working once again!
Anyway, enough talking.
Try manually yourself or try my .zip!
I hope it helps man!
EDIT:
Backup your /system/modules folder just in case.
If you run in any trouble, restore your modules folder and reflash an your previous kernel.
If you still have any issues (highly unlikely, but still) flash back to Stock ROM and you'll be good as new.

Even if I unpack to stock kernal and try to replace the WiFi modules I don't think it will work. Thoughts anyone??

Right now I've been talking with Ktoonsez he is kinda busy but I'm trying to see if he can help us.
If he doesn't have time maybe I can get permission too do so ( have to learn how I'm not a kernal guy )
We will have TW fully working. Who knows maybe someone is ahead of me and will beat me to it

Great news! This combined with the upcoming MoDaCo Switch will make our phones so much more awesome than they already are.
Ohh that is nice to see for us i9505g folks he is using a i9505 base. Assuming there is a way to apply Ktoonsez Kernal and not disrupt anything inherent to MoDaCo.

Here is what I did and it is working well for me. Download the ROM, Aroma and the Kernal. Boot into recovery, full wipe and then wipe system. Flash the ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349369), Aroma (and select what parts you want) and then Kernal. It takes quite a while for permissions, so be patient with the flashing. After that, you reboot and are good to go.
Hi, it works very good hehehe...
First you have to flash a Recovery (If you dont have one), then make a full wipe of Data and System 5 times, install Barebone Rom, intall Aroma apps, flash Ktoonz Kernel for TW 4.2.2, if Recovery ask you to fix permissons select NO.
Everything works fine, but after the first time that i restart the phone it stucks on the Google logo. sometimes shows the samsung logo.
Thats my results, i'll test more roms.
