Nexus 7 bumper style case? - Nexus 7 Accessories

Is there any cases out there that portray that minimalistic look of a bumper case for the nexus 7? I just want something to protect the rim of the device.

I can't see it being viable really, since the iPhone is flat sided and the Nexus 7 is, well, not. Also, do you want one for the 4 or the 7? Title says 7, post says 4. Regardless, unless you modify a TPU case, I don't see it happening.

Sorry, edited it to say 7. And I was just wondering cause I like the grip in the back and I would hate to cover it with a full case.

my thoughts exactly. Im currently hoping to find a bumper case for the n7 just to cover the edges as you said would hate to cover the back cover!

Grrr, anyone?

TPU cases are cheap, buy one, and cut the back out.

I have a tpu case with a X design and its great, really nice grip as well.

The 'basketbally' pattern gives it a really nice grip and feel, the reflective 'X' is also grippy in a weird way. I don't miss the naked back at all.
I have never uploaded photos on XDA before and this is on the XDA app so I don't know how I will go...
EDIT: BTW, this is just a cheap Chinese eBay generic X design case, there are hundreds of eBay sellers selling these.

I have an Incipio case on mine. Fits perfectly, keeps your device safe from scratches. Doesn't do much else but looks good and is a good quality piece of plastic. I like it because it actually keeps my thin tablet thin, while still offering some protection unlike other cases which make your thin tablet into thick beast. It also comes with a screen protector so you can save money on that. It's a little under a millimeter thin all around.
http://www.amazon.com/Incipio-Feath...id=1358535542&sr=8-1&keywords=incipio+nexus+7

Pretty much the same as the Insipio but way cheaper are the hoard of cheap Chinese made cases just like those found on eBay for less than 10 bucks even from domestic sellers although the direct from China ones are cheaper yet. Search hard plastic Nexus 7 case to see which ones I mean. Search hard Nexus 7 case to find cheaper ones from a huge list of cases including TPU ones although I find it quite a stretch to call TPU "hard." I have one of these on my HTC Flyer and love it although I never even looked for one for my Nexus since I wanted something over the screen.

Anybody waiting for better cases?

I liked the Poetic Slimline with the smart cover, but I'm hoping for something a little more quality. Anybody else holding out for better cases or is this best we've seen?
Yeah, I know what you mean. I made the mistake of impulse buying the Asus TPU case that doesn't stay closed. I'm currently tempted by the Portenzo Hardback because I like the idea of it looking like a moleskin book, but I'd also like something that didn't require "adhesives" and could pivot on a desk.
I have order the nilkin tpu case but im waiting something better with smart cover from bigger players like belkin...
I am. I went with a Portenzo initially but the case just didnt meet my expectations so Im in the market for sometihng new. I like the Blurex slim fit folio but I dont really want a black case.
I'm waiting for rokform to come out with a case... rokform.com I emailed them and asked if they were in the process of making a case and they said yes but no eta.

I'm building one... with an otp keyboard/hub/card reader should be fun when the bits arrive
I just ranted a bit on another thread on this.
I sure hope someone, somewhere comes out with a decent case. Of seems everyone else making 7 inch tablets or EReaders seems to come out with very nice slime cover/cases ((Samsung, amazon kindles, hell even kobo). It has been long enough already.
To answer the question directly, yes I'm waiting anxiously for anything better.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Nope. I usually am all about craftsmanship, etc. but for some reason, a cheapo case is good enough for me. I guess because the "better" cases are almost always also bulkier and/or gaudier.
Edit: by the way, I have the same case as the OP and it does everything I need a case to do...basically protect the screen when shoved in a bag and not cost too much.
I'm waiting for Incipio to get their offerings on the table. A Lexington or LGND version would be great.
Hey guys,
we might have a couple of new winner:
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/624779051/leather_case_for_google_nexus_7.html
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/624836033/google_nexus_7_leather_case.html
They are similar to the poetic slimfit but hopefully they don't have the draw back and flaws.
(they seem to better protect the device than the other slim ebay cases)
I already asked the manufacturer if the cover properly fold all the way back, and if the auto sleep/wake function is triggered when the cover is fold back. waiting for the answer.
The problem: we need to buy at least 100 cases (wholesale manufacturer) ...
and I wasn't able to find these cases from a reseller neither on ebay nor on amazon ?

Whats a good otterbox alternative?

I'm going to be doing some field work soon, and want to be able to take my phone with me instead of taking a cheap feature phone like I used to.
Problem is, its going to be dirty, cold dusty and jagged and I need a good rugged case with screen protection, preferably one that won't me back 40-60$ like the otterbox does.
must have features are port covers, a dust resilient screen protector, and a toughened shell/case.
thanks in advance for any help
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Even if you were to go with something other than an OtterBox, for that level of protection I believe you'd still be looking at the ~$50 price range.
Im a field service engineer and let me tell you that my otter commuter saved my phone a few times - from multiple angle drops to dirty fingers. had it on for a week now and it works as advertised. was looking for a cheaper alternative as well but after reading the reviews and watching drop tests videos its the best protection you can get for ~50 bucks.
Drop test for the note 2 commuter? Only seen defender vids. Link? Thanks

I am also a field service engineer and work with literally tons of abrasive dust. I have a cheap fosmon kickstand cover that I bought on amazon. it was really only a few bucks. I also have on a cheap wet apply screen protector I bought on amazon I think it is the just like glass protector. The case makes the softbuttons hard to use, so you may want to flash a rom with the nexus buttons enabled.

i am using speck candyshell on a daily basis now that i am used to the bulk it adds. Apart from the fact that the back scratches up pretty much easily, I don't have any negative comments about it.
A pretty decent protective shell excluding the front screen protector of the otterbox.

I have the commuter case. I believe it is a great case and I highly reccomend it. It cost me around 32 euros and I dont regret it. Most of the times when we look for cheap alternatives we end up spending more money on various cases just to return to our first and more expensive option. And if you want my opinion you dont just but 2 parts of silicon and plastic. You buy the reassurance that whatever happens to your case Otterbox will replace it. And of course you also buy their experience. Just check all these crazy drop tests on youtube.

Note II Case with Wallet

I'm looking to get a Note II case that can double as wallet. The one I picked up at Verizon when I got the phone is a bit bulky, and I'm considering getting a new one Does anyone have one they like?
I can't answer your question; but the reason why might interest you.
I couldn't dream of using a case which leaves the corners exposed but I've only found one wallet case with full corner protection, but from the pictures it would be too bulky (the leather protrudes from the side further that the edge covering)
I'll link later if I remember but it's on play.com type note 2 wallet.
If you find a skin but full protection wallet case please pm me!

There are plenty over at www.gmarket.kr it seems like that the koreans like wallet case, and they do have the largest range.
I tend to like the forest green brand you can find them at gmarket or ebay.
I've got this sinjimoru sinji pouch from amazon which can attatch to the back of any case or phone basically. Can fit like 4 cards and some cash.. I even got an extra battery and two cards in it once. It was around $10, attaches with a sticky type back, doesn't stretch and I absolutely love it. Have it on the back of my otterbox.

Interesting - a lot of the cases on the website look interesting, definitely considering one of the ones that double as a stand. I see your point - just figured that if I have a big phone, I could cut down on the amount of things I have to carry around. The one I have has worked ok so far, but tends to bulge in the middle. Don't know if there are any that solve that problem though.
If anyone is wondering, play.com is buy.com in the US; looks like it has a smaller selection though.

It's only $12, it's good quality, not real leather of course.
Easily fits two drivers licenses, two credit cards, and a few Disney passes.
Not really a wallet to hold cash, though you could put a few bills folded into it.
It also folds on the back to prop up like a stand.
The phone snaps into a plastic case on the inside, seems to provide meager protection. Corners aren't really protected well.
It also uses a button clasp instead of a magnet, which is good.

I dig the cover. Very low profile.
As to the case, I like taking stuff with me, but being able to ditch it all and just use the tablet.
I would rather have a low profile cover, rather than a portfolio style. I always have a laptop bag with me so I don't really need extra space. That tpu cover is all over amazon and it has the right price, so I'm gonna grab one. Thanks...

I totally get it. The flip covers are nice and compact. To each their own.
I have two common scenarios.
1- I take just the portfolio and nothing else. 80% of the time.
2- I take a larger bag in which I ditch the portfolio and just take the tablet with the plastic case. 20% of the time.
I was meaning the tpu as a low profile option. Having to deal with a flip cover always seemed to be weird to me. I like that you probably saved 30 bucks and got the best of both worlds, plus gained a few utilitarian features from using the planner instead of buying a specific tablet cover. It doesn't seem like anyone other than you (and me soon enough...) are interested in a tpu/silicone case. I emailed Trident about a rugged case but they have nothing on the radar yet for the tab 3.
