LG Manufactured Nexus 5 And Nexus 7.7 Will Reportedly Be Announced In May At GoogleIO - Nexus 4 General

The turn of the year always brings with it new found excitement about the potential hardware and software that we are likely see introduced from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google. It also marks the start of the countdown to events like Apple’s WWDC and Google’s I/O conference, both of which take place in the Bay Area at the Moscone Center. We won’t find out exactly what both companies have in store for us during their respective events, but early reports are suggesting Google could be planning on announcing information and technical specifications of two new Nexus branded devices.
Last year’s Google I/O event saw the world being introduced to the iOS version of the Google Chrome web browser as well as the unveiling of the ASUS manufactured Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus Q social streaming media player that never actually made it to the public. The latest reports suggest that Google is planning to continue the trend of making hardware based announcements by unveiling another LG manufactured smartphone called the Nexus 5 as well as medium market tablet called the Nexus 7.7, also produced by LG.
This year’s I/O conference is set to take place in May in familiar surroundings at Moscone Center West. The Korean based report is suggesting that exhaustive information about the hardware won’t be made available until the event itself, but also suggests that the Nexus 5 will come with a 5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and an impressive pixel density of 440 pixels-per-inch. A NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor complete with 2GB of on-board RAM could also be bundled with the hardware.
The Nexus 7.7 is speculated to run the same processor as the smaller smartphone, also with 2GB of RAM. The 7.7-inch display will reportedly come with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and be available in either 8GB or 16GB variants. Both sets of hardware are expected to come pre-installed with Android 5.0 when they launch. Although no pricing details for the Nexus 7.7 were included in the initial reports; it is being suggested that the Nexus 5 device could launch with a $299 price-tag for the 8GB model, which would put it into the same pricing structure as the current Nexus 4 smartphone.
As is always the case with speculation of this nature, we won’t really know the intention of Google until the event is right at our nose, but it would certainly be a welcome announcement during I/O.

No offense. But Redmond Pie is a kind of laughing stock when it comes to Android news and speculations. I've been following them for years and have realized that they like to take vague rumors and small news and speculate,, until it gets blown out of proportion. They will then post with a very catchy title to draw viewers.

This. If the next nexus comes larger than 4.85 then I'm out. Unless they remove the bottom bezel. Because the nexus 4 has a smaller screen than the galaxy s2 (from the bottom of the notification bar to the top of the navigation bar) too much bezel on top and bottom. If they can optimize the space, maybe I will get a 5" but the note 2 was ridiculous, had to shift my hand to swipe away a notification

Get the Nexus 7, or wait for the Nexus 10?

I've been really wanting to purchase this tablet for awhile now, up until I read a few articles about a rumored 10 inch version of the tablet. I would really enjoy the larger screen, but again this is just a rumor. Should I go ahead and purchase the Nexus 7 or wait to see if there will be a Nexus 10? Thanks for anyone's input!
Btw, these are the articles I read:

They're not releasing one anytime soon. Why would they have a huge announcement for the nexus 7 but not even mention a Nexus 10?

I think I would prefer a 10" tablet myself, but I may end up loving the 7" form factor. I was debating just like you, but when I found out that IF they release a nexus 10, that it wouldn't be until late this year, I went ahead and ordered the 7 and will sell/trade it for the 10 when and if released.

I had a nookColor tablet last year - I loved reading on it, it was easy to hold, etc. I wanted a Galaxy Tab 10.1 so badly though, and after playing with one at Best Buy I decided to sell my nook and buy the Tab. It was cool - definitely better for watching movies - but I found myself not using it as much as I had used the nook. I hardly read and the 10 inch form factor was difficult to hold comfortably. Sold the Tab and got the N7 and couldn't be happier! In the tablet world, bigger is not always better... Personal opinion: Get the N7.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I think I'm going to get the N7, unless I hear any more talk about the N10 in the next few days. Although, I've been seeing all these threads about people's N7's being defective, so I'm going to wait a bit to place my order anyway.

I sold my touchpad for this tablet and have not looked back. I do not miss the huge screen. I LOVE the size of this tablet it fits perfectly in my hands. Plus the size of it makes it easily transportable. Not to mention the fact that a nexus 10 has not been officially announced. Get this, if the 10 ever comes out sell this and get the 10

Hey guys, I'm in the same situation of the op, only difference is that Nexus 7 isn't still purchasable in my country (it will be in august/september).
However, I think that I will use this tablet (if I will buy it) for reading book and comic/manga, you think that it is good for that, or is better if I take my attention to a 10" tablet?

I read it's been backordered for a few weeks, so you might have more time for talk to come out anyway.
Edit: the 16GB version anyway. The 8GB version seems available.
I have a 10" galaxy tab, plus the nexus 7. The nexus 7 really surprised me, that small screen may actually be big enough. I am still undecided whether or not I will need another 10" tablet, or the 7" is enough. But at the moment there its a high likelihood that the 10" will never leave my house again, and I will travel with the 7" only. I think for most people, the 7" form factor may be better. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the need to read full page adobe files. So far, what I tested are all readable on the 7" device, but that is so unexpected that I need to test more before I decide to retire the 10" tablet.
I prefer the 7" form factor.
10" is simply too large when you are viewing it by holding it with your hand.
You have to move your eyes around to look from top to bottom.
I too was a little worried about something that isn't a whole lot bigger than our phones now...but I actually love it. It is easier to handle and to type on. I like reading from it as well. As far as waiting...I wouldn't be surprised if Google had a bigger tablet around the holidays. But I wouldn't wait around for it.

As you can guess from the product name, the Nexus 7.7 is a 7.7-inch Android tablet – this Nexus tablet naming convention will bite them in the ass in future Nexus 7.7 generations – and it’s also expected to be a budget-friendly high-end device.
The tablet will be priced starting at $299 as well for the 8GB model, and it will offer you a 7.7-inch WUXGA display (1920 x 1200 resolution and 294 PPI), a NVIDIA Tegra 4 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8/16GB of storage and 720p HD front and rear cameras
While the forum doesn’t mention it, we expect both devices to run the next-gen Android OS version, which could very well be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Men, Full HD resolution on that screen is just isn't needed at all. It would be more suitable for 9-10 inch, but not 7-8
LG confirmed that this is fake. They have said that they have NOT stopped production of the Nexus 4.
So they'll probably make like an 8th of the number they should and no one will be able to buy them. Seriously Google. Three lg devices in a row. Its one thing with Samsung who has had a good track record of meeting demand and not having major issues like thermal throttling. But lg dropped the ball on the nexus 4 launch badly. Please Google, Motorola, Samsung, HTC, and even Asus( they seem to have no problem pumping out a million a month) is much better.

TechnoBuffalo reads it as KRS368 on the Nexus 7 and KRS365 on the N4, but I see it as KRS36B, which makes more sense since recent builds of Jelly Bean have a letter at the end of the build number.

Hmm doesnt looks that impressive simply by those battery life ratings... manages a few hours call time what the hell?! OEM estimated battery life is generally way too high so this seems really odd as its worse than the nexus 4 rated time .
Also the size of the device is slightly disappointing, I was expecting/hoping for a smaller device all round like the rumoured sizing of 131.9 x 68.2 x 8.8(?) hoping this is still true as that small change in size would be amazing and tip it from a good device to a perfect sized device .
Interesting... guess I will awaiting the release!

If you all are unimpressed by the specs than don't buy it! I however like many others will enjoy the best phone to come on the market with the latest os, I would buy it even if it came with the exact same battery as the N4. The phone is going to be good so I wish luck to everyone who thinks they will be happy staying with their N4's, while everyone else is enjoying the new gem.

I'm on my phone so I can't quickly look through it.
Does anyone see any mention of USB OTG? That I'd the one feature I wish the Nexus 4 had.

Nexus 6 curved concept

Ok, Most concepts are FAKE as the following one is. But what do you think about our next Best friend being curved:cyclops:..
I kinda felt blue when saw that but don't know what the general acceptance will be.

That's actually pretty slick looking.

It depends on whether Google pays to use that licensed name or not
lets discard the idea that the name is related to size.
Also, I would say that our current Nexus 5 is a very 2014 device since released very late on 2013 (the first nexus 7 was release on July 2012 and 2nd, July 2013).
NO thanks, I do not like curved phones.

Agreed I'd rather have a flat phone than curved but enough people do it such as apple it will be caught on like how people adapted to windows 8

Curved? No thanks.
Also not a fan of Windows 8 GUI and navigation style, and still use Windows 7 because it does what I need it to.
Go figure.
What would I want in a Nexus 6/Nexus 5 gen. 2? New high-end CPU/GPU, more RAM I suppose, higher MP camera. You know, that sort of thing. Ooh, root and SU option on stock Android? :highfive:

Im guessing this: 1440P display, 64 bit cpu (not sure exactly), 3gb ram, 13mp camera with ois, android 5.0 or 4.5 w/art as stock & 64 bit support, usb 3.0 (really hope this is in).
Oh, and broken SU...
Nexus devices are already kind of a niche product, it would be stupid to make it either curved or any larger than 5 inches, both of those categories are in the niche categories themselves.
Looks cool but unstable on a table. Needs to be curved the other way IMHO

don't forget that the nexus 4 was 4.7 inches. they could use the nexus 5 name and keep increasing the size in different, smaller, increments.

For me 5" inch is the perfect screen size, both in the hand and pocket.
Waiting to get any curved phone into my hand already before I could tell I like it or not ^^

there are certain things like music controls and torch controls and such that i need access to with one hand. but anytime i am actually zero'd in on my smartphone, i am using both hands, so i tend to prefer the bigger screens. i haven't quite figured out what my limit is on screen size

I agree with you mate forget about the curved screen and concentrate on the rest of the specs like memory capacity for instance 32/64gb built in 3 or 4gb ram better CPU /GPU

Does no one remember that the nexus S was curved. Shape wise, it was nice to hold and pocket. The only thing was the earpiece could be a little uncomfortable as the edge pressed against your ear more, but that is solvable. Of course, the screen was flat and only the body curved.
Some advantages are: placing it on tables etc mean little chance of scoring or scratching the screen; also rear facing speakers are either up face down, or not in contact with the surface face up.
PS the issue with the nexus s was Samsung's cheap, plastic build quality and feel. But the shape was good

Curved phone worked well on the lg flex. T-Mobile showed me the flex he had it in his pocked as its not on sale until next week. The phone is huge! But because of the curve and it really wasn't burdensome. I think from here on out curved phones should be a must for phablets

No curved phone please. Flexible is another thing but for stiff curved I cannot think any preferable reason.
I will be so upset if the make it curved.
