[Q] Connect SGS to internet via BT remote SIM/phone - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have an un-rooted Galaxy (Froyo) and want to transfer its SIM to my trusted Nokia to make calls (for simple reliability and convenience reasons). I want to still use the Galaxy to connect to the 3G network, internet, get mail, use apps etc and want to do this over Bluetooth between devices. I can’t find a solution via forums or an app and suspect it isn’t possible (hope I'm wrong!). I’ve paired the 2 devices and set the Nokia to allow remote SIM access but still can't load web pages or get emails on the Galaxy. Can transfer files OK.
Has anyone done something similar or know how I can get this setup working?
ie. Galaxy S GT- I9000 with no SIM, connecting to the internet via Optus 3G Nokia 6220c phone.

Tethering with OSX 10.5

I have an AT&T Tilt (unmodifed so far) and am having no luck getting this to tether to my MacBookPro running 10.5.1. I have it working via USB for syncing via MissingSync for calendar, addresses, etc.
Running the bluetooth device setup finds both PAN and modem but I can't get those to work. I've read that PAN is the easiest since it doesn't require any configuration. When I use the Connect To Network in the Bluetooth menu, I get an error of "Failed to open a connection to the network service. Your device may have reached its maximum number of supported network connections."
I then tried to set it up as a modem via USB but the Tilt doesn't appear in the Network as a modem option. The System Profiler sees the phone as a generic serial device. Is there an OSX kext (driver) available for the Tilt so that it will be seen as an external USB modem?
If it is at all possible to make the phone act like a modem, is there any way to use it as a fax modem? Would love to set it up as a printer>fax gateway.
FYI, It is working in XP after installing the AT&T Connection Manager and using it as a dialup modem so I know my account is authorized for the tethering option (I have the PDA Tether Unlimited/1500 messages plan for $69)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Ok. I got the Bluetooth PAN working after reflashing the firmware (I used the XDA Live 1.0 release). The AT&T Tilt firmware didn't include the Internet Sharing application so the BT PAN wasn't an option.
I would still like information about getting the phone to act as a fax modem if possible.

WM6.1 & Internet Sharing (on a Diamond)

This is probably a very specific issue that I'm experiencing but hopefully someone out there can help me.
I recently got an HTC Touch Diamond, running WM6.1. I use Internet Sharing on the phone and then connect it to my PC via a USB cable. I can then browse the web from my PC. If I now connect to my office VPN, it seems that the connection times out and / or is very slow. I can't even browse to other PC's on the network via the VPN connection as it times out. But I can ping the PC's so I know I'm definatly on the network.
Now I know what everyone is thinking... our VPN might be screwy. But if I use someone else in the office's phone (running WM6.0) I can connect and there is no problem whatsoever. The only difference is that he is on a different service provider than me (and of course a different phone).
I used to have a SE M600i before this phone and it worked perfectly on that (same service provider as now).
Has anyone experienced anything simular? Or have any ideas what I could check?
I've played around abit and found the following: When I take my SIM card and put it into another HTC running WM6.0 (can't remember the model) it works perfectly and I can browse our intranet sites over the VPN. So the problem is definatly limited to my phone.
I also used Internet Sharing on the other phone and then established the VPN connection from my laptop. I didn't change any of the settings so it is 100% the same on both phones as download from the service provider upon insertion of the SIM card.
On my phone when I'm connected to the VPN I can browse the network shares and download email, but as soon as I try and browse our intranet websites or try to connect to any database (using TOAD etc.) it doesn't seem to be able to retrieve data. Almost like the phone is not able to handle large amounts of data coming through... (i'm just guessing here)
Anyone know of any setting somewhere on the phone that could cause this to happen?
Finally got this working!!
I'm now using WMWiFiRouter to use my phone as a WiFi router and then connect to the internet from my pc. If I then connect to the VPN from my PC everything works fine.
I'm not sure if WMWiFiRouter implements Internet Connection Sharing differently than the normal ICS app on the phone, but it seems to work and it's pretty fast.
Can't believe it took two months - with absolutely no else seeming to have this issue - but I'm glad it's over now!!

Galaxy Tab WiFi cannot connect to internet

I am posting this to help others who faced my problem. I have tried this on my galaxy tab running Froyo (Android 2.2) Build number FROYO.DDJK3.
Problem 1: Cannot connect to internet using corporate office Wifi. I could connect to internet from my home wifi network but not from my office wifi network. From office network I could only access emails, not internet.
Solution:
(A) Ask your company IT system admin to allow your MAC ID to access the internet. MAC address is found at Home--> Menu button--> Settings -->Wireless and Network-->WiFi Settings --> Menu button -->Advanced-->Mac address
(B) Find out if your company has a proxy server to access internet if yes, add in the details of “Proxy” and “Port”. These settings are available below MAC address mentioned in step (A) above
Problem 2:
Now I could access email and internet through browser, but apps (gmail, market, Samsung apps, etc) could not access internet. After some research I found that this was because the apps were still not using the proxy server to access the internet (even after entering the proxy and port details under the settings as above).
Solution: (A) Root your Galaxy Tab: I used z4root. Method is described in http://androidadvices.com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-tab/ However, use the latest version of the z4root app, available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 (I used version V1.3.0). Since I didn’t want to mess about too much with my Tab, I only did a “temporary root”.
(B) With your Tab rooted, install TransProxy. I used Version 3.08 beta, available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=766569 Run TransProxy and enter your proxy server and port details.
That’s it. You’re Done. Now all my apps had access to internet‼
In the whole process there was no need to reboot. For good measure I only disabled and re-enabled Wifi and had internet access in email, browser and apps. The process was quite easy. I am not a developer or anything, I just researched a lot on the internet and thought it would be helpful if I put this down in one place.
I am posting this as it was a frustrating issue and I could see many people searching for a solution.
Note: I have not rebooted the tab and checked if the settings remain after reboot. Z4root says that if you temporary root, the tab stay rooted till the next reboot. Since I don’t really want to mess around
EDIT Just checked. On reboot, the Tab gets unrooted and Transproxy is not longer able to work. You will have to root again and then enable/disable transproxy. I have once again opted to "temporary root", as I don't see myself rebooting frequently.

You'd have much more luck in getting a response by posting in the HD2 forums and not this one!

Dave
thanks you so much
I finally got this working on my docomo galaxy tab with froyo build. In my case I used proxy type as http.

[Q] Galaxy S to Galaxy S file transfer by WiFi ?

Hi, Samsung says the Direct-WiFi is available in galaxy s Froyo >
Now, I'm in 2.3.4 (CM7) and my friend is on 2.2.1 (stock Summy ROM).
Is it possible to fransfer files (music, books, movie,...) by WiFi instead bluetooth ?
without Internet or any wireless networks (just to galaxy s phone)
and my phone have an option => "portable hot spot" that my friend can connect to my phone by scanning WiFi networks But i don't know how to transfer files.
Any idea ?!!!!!!!!!
at less tell me is this possible ?!
I don't know of any good way to do this as I'm yet to see any Direct WiFi support in the SGS (even though apparently it's certified for it).
A hacky way however...
1) Install Kies Air on one of the phones (available from the Samsung Apps).
2) Startup Kies Air, selecting to use the portable hotspot.
3) On the other phone, login to the Kies Air website (the other phone) - note that the browser you use will need to have its User Agent string setup to look like it's a desktop web-browser (try Skyfire).
4) Browse the first phone through the website file-browser and download files via that.
I haven't actually tried this out, but it should work fine
I tryed with WiFi file explorer, but not worked !
I just run wifi file explorer in HotSpot device but that need a wifi network !

Acessing Samsung market via Wifi?

Hello all,
I would like to access the Samsung market via wifi. The tab does not allow me to , as it expects a 3G connection. I do not want to use a Sim card just for that.
Is there any way to access this via Wifi?
Thank you all
