[Q] SCH-i800 [Phone Enable] - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really hate to start this back up about enabling phone support on sch-i800. But the lack of post/info about it is very annoying. We know that hardware is there to make it work. But how far is the software limiting us on this fact? I myself have mine on a voice plan with Page Plus and could in theory make call's if I can get the tab to support it. I have made it as far to get the Tab it self activated and programmed onto Page Plus, and Framework-res.apk edit for the dialer to show. But when it trys to call out it just shut's the call down and I'm back at the dialer. If anyone could shed a little light my way I would be grateful. Anymore apk's i should edit? more in the framework somewhere? Any info guys ? I have full service and 3g perfect on this thing.
CM10 with dialer from framework edit.

Hey Haxz...I grabbed just a 3rd party dialer..and it tries to make a call..and closes...I was wondering if you ever found a way in to Diag Mode on CM10 so edits can be done such as web settings and prl updates with qpst...I have mine running Cricket...Thanks..

Actually I was able to get into diag mode using a command line in terminal emulator. Looks like original post was by autoprime I think, so thanks to him. This line worked for me. echo MODEM USB > /sys/class/sec/switch/usb_sel. I was running cm9 roms also.

I found 2 scripts in the Sprint section that click click and you can switch between PDA and Modem..But one thing....I can get web settings to work under GB but no ICS/Jelly Bean Roms will work with Data period..I have re-checked the settings dozens of times..and nothing...One thing just in case you need the info...To change APN settings...I had to use the Sprint modem file...If you try to write in qpst with the Verizon modem file the settings won't take..Thanks for the response on it...

This thread is a few months old but I wanted to post that apparently the trick to getting voice back is to replace the modem.bin from a samsung fascinate because it's the same dialer hardware.
I haven't done this as it's beyond my abilities but I've read it elsewhere.
If anyone successfully tests this, perhaps they can make a clockworkmod zip file that we can flash over cm10.1

Kyocera Zio M6000 - on Cricket, Android 1.6

I was looking around for a thread for this phone, but found nothing. I hope people start working on it, I'd like to mod it.
Is there anything I can do to help, like dumping the rom? Do any of the current tools even work on it?
I read somewhere Kyocera was going to put out an upgrade to 2.1, bit I can't find anything besides a mention of that.
EDIT: FEB 22, 2011
NEW 2.2 THREAD
YES! It is actually out! For real!
EDIT: Jan 27, 2011
It was released (somewhere around page 76) that Android 2.2 would be released Late Feb to early March.
START NEW THREADS!
If you have questions other than modding, it would help to put it in a new thread with the prefix subject "Kyocera Zio M6000 - "
I figure if lots of threads pop up like that it would be more likely that they'd notice it and actually create it's own forum. If everything is just tagged onto this thread, then it will just get huge and unnavigable, and the mods won't notice enough activity.
Update:
hotaru was awesome enough to post a full dump of the Zio for us:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8907621&postcount=287
If you look around this thread you'll find info about rooting the phone. Also in this thread a port Clockwork Recovery was released. There are some issues with it that were not resolvable. Such as if you boot to Clockwork and don't actually reset the phone, it will lose the Cricket settings and revert to Verizon. So it will work to recover a ROM and backup, but you need to also need to reset or restore when you go there.
Wasn't sure where to post this since there is no HW section for this phone, so I put it here in hacking general...
Could someone create a forum for it and move this post to it?
EDIT:
To root the phone people have had success with 1-click root for N1
And the MSL# is 000000
The debug ACCESS CODE is #777468
A copy of the 1.6 rom here
Will update here with any usefull info.
Also, this thing has absolutely no multi-touch, even though all the blogs says it does.
For Tethering. PdaNet (I can't post any links cause i'm a new user, just do a Google Search and click "I'm Feeling Lucky")
Works like a Charm.
Currently Using the Free Version and it works GREAT.
Even has an SMS client built in so you can reply to your messages while your tethered.
Just make sure USB Debugging is on and you'll have no problem.
I also put in a request for a user group for this phone. I emailed one of the admins directly and he told me if they get enough requests they may create it.
What I have really been looking for is either a hacked up upgrade Rom to either enclair or group for this phone.

I second that motion. The seems to be the first legit prepaid android phone, and it isn't really getting any attention, anywhere :-/
Which I find quite odd. I personally have the EVO and love it but I did buy this phone for my girlfriend and she absolutely loves it and for a prepaid phone with a price point of 230 bucks you really cant beat it. Especially for 55 a month. I would think more people would be flocking to this. I have even considered giving up my evo for it but I do like the 4g. And the Build of the Evo is much higher quality.
Root
I think getting the thing rooted is important. All of the wifi tether apps require that. I read somewhere that someone had done it.
Do you find your girlfriend's Zio crashes when trying to watch video that you are opening from a link? Mine does every time :-(
Yup, lots of freezing, soft and hard.
I can't get rid of a "cdma: reorder" error after installing GoogleVoice. Now I can only make calls through GV or I'll get the error. I really need a better ROM, they better come out with 2.1 ASAP.
I also hope the no multitouch is only a sw issue and not a hw one.
i totally agree with you guys this phone needs some tweeking

Multitouch is something that is enabled in the kernel. I'm sure that the update to 2.1 will bring multi touch.
ROOTED!
The Zio can be rooted, download the file, email it to yourself, and open it on the phone. It is easy peasy ;-)
Paste this into the search up top: 1-click root for N1
(I would have posted the link but the forums rules won't allow me because...I don't have many posts?)
Wifi tether works like a champ.
No problems with my girlfriends phone I played with it for at least 2 or 3 hours when I first got it and eveything appeared to work fine. The only thing that I really didnt like was the factory keyboard I heard swiftkey got a major upgrade and was thinking about using it as a replacement especially cause it has the voice to text feature. And I may root her phone as well to give that wifi tether a shot. But what I would really like to see is some kind of upgrade to 2.X I think that it what will really make this phone shine.

There is an app called "Barnacle Wifi Tethering", look it up in the app store. Once it is installed it is self explanatory,

I second this motion.
Step 1: Download APN Backup & Restore from Market
Step 2: Open APN Backup & Restore
Step 3: Backup APNs
Step 4: Plug phone into computer with USB cable.
Step 5: Drag notification bar from the top, tap the USB connection notification, and Mount the SD card to your computer.
Step 6: Find the mounted drive on the computer (may be D:, E:, F:, G:, for example) by opening My Computer. Open it.
Step 7: Go into the APNBackup&Restore folder.
Step 8: Right click on your backed up APNs (maybe like 201009041233-apns.xml or something or whatever you named them when you did a Backup APNs)n
Step 9: Open with Notepad or Word Pad if it asks you.
Step 10: Highlight all text with your mouse, or use Ctrl + A to select all.
Step 11: After all text is highlighted, use Ctrl + C to copy the text OR go to the 'Edit' menu at the top with your mouse, and choose 'Copy'.
Step 12: Reply to this topic in this thread, right click in the text box where you type, and choose 'Paste'.
Step 13: Revel in good feelings as you provide very valuable help to the Android community.
Thank you ahead of time, if you are willing to help.
yea do that for sure! and also maybe somebody who has root can grab the mms.apk and .odex files too =\

Enabling Facebook Contact Sync in Ice Cream Sandwich

I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470
Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:
http://www.androidguys.com/2011/02/23/google-drops-facebook-sync-nexus/
Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

I'd considered that, even set up a decompiling environment, but never got around to trying it. Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.

I'm combing the smali folder as we speak, but nothing stands out as a definitive match
The one problem about ics, you're working to fix. Thanks man! I hope you find your answer!
Haven't found it yet, though. I've been trying to get into contact with koush, see if he's had any insight.
MoDaCo got it working on the Galaxy Nexus. If anyone has the galaxy yet, you could upload his rom and them comb through the /system and see what has been changed. we could then possibly implement it for the Galaxy S as well.

[Q] XT883 on GSM showing number instead of contact name

hey guys,
testing the chinese xt883 stock rom these days.
apart from extensive battery drain i have one big problem:
all my contacts (which are about 500) are displayed in contacts view but when someone calls me the phone won't show the assiocated contact name to the number but only the caller id itself!?
when i go to call list and add the same number again to the contact the next time the person calls me the contact name is correctly associated and displayed.
same problem in text messaging also, but not with every contact?!
you see i don't want to manually edit all my contacts to make the phone know which number belongs to which contact ...
anyone know how to fix this?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is this the xt883 ROM on an xt862 for gsm functionality? If so, any reason in particular you chose this ROM? Do you know about flashing the xt883 radio.img to get gsm on the xt862? It works great and doesn't force me to use the Chinese ROM lol.
sure i know about flashing the radio.img only but i also want the other benefits of the xt883, like call firewall, call record, bluetooth transfer, hardware decoding and so on.
what's included in the radio.img? is the cell standby issue fixed when flashing the radio.img only?
thanks!
Sent from my XT883 using XDA App
Do you mean the battery life due to having the cell radio on standby? I've only used the phone on T-Mobile so I don't really have a comparison for that. I've noticed wifi reception is a little weak, so I'm wondering if that has to do with the radio.img. I read that the xt883 is only rated for 802.11 b/g, so that would explain it.
I mainly use stock xt862 ROM because I tried the xt883 ROM and didn't like having to do the work around for Gapps and all the Chinese bloatware included. I didn't know about any exclusive benefits, but I don't think I'd need them now that you mention them.
I really just wanted gsm functionality and the stock ROM with the radio tweak works just fine for that.

Also, if you're interested in seeing what it includes, you can look in the dev section where the thread is and just download the zip to look at the files.

yeah i did that now, thanks man!
well, since no one seems to have a solution for my contact problem i think im gonna get back to stock and see how its gonna go with that.

i imported the contacts to sdcard, then via file manager opened the vcf file manually and my contacts were updated again.
then all contacts displayed correctly when calls came or anything.

Enabling Download Booster [Status Update 5/4]

From what I've seen, download booster was only hidden in settings of S5 from the Consumer. I posted a thread in Sprint S5 talking about how to enable and thought I'd share here as well for general info.
If you'd like to assist in this project, send me a PM. Any and all help appreciated. (need someone who can edit smali as well)
----Enable Download Booster for All variants S5----
1. Download third party launcher
2. Long press homescreen
3. Select shortcuts -> activities
4.Scroll to settings and open
5. Scroll to Download Booster to add to screen
6. Tap new setting icon on homepage
7. Enable and profit
After enabling, you can see download booster in notification bar grayed out until usage. You CAN unistall third party launcher afterwards if you desire since download booster still activated.
Edit 4/16: WIP, still testing to see what may work. Any info towards file on variant where download booster is enabled would be appreciated (ie, extracting file from T mobile version and posting on forum). Will try to work on it. Currently looking into the S4 forums towards the path and edits needed to make it work.
EDIT 4/18: need framework-res.apk and SecSettings.apk from phone variant that has download booster as an option so I can try to port it to our device.
EDIT 4/23: so Ive gathered the T mobile versions of the apks and decompiled. Ive managed to get the download booster in Sprint Variant settings as of now and easy enable from touchwiz (see screenshot). Still working to fully enable.
EDIT 4/26: see post 30 screenshot, need to find this file location.
EDIT 4/26 #2: after help from miked63017 pointing me to a post by eyecon82, along with what I've found from various ROMs and Db files/etc, I have enabled Download Booster in the Notification Panel drop down (see screenshot). Now to get it fully working.
EDIT 4/28: after decompile of SystemUI, NWBooster actually has many places within, mostly smali edits needed to enabled under Network Controller. The Network Booster is actually related (by searching the SQLite Editor->Settings Storage->Settings.db->system->search for "Smart") to Smart Bonding to the Quick Tile for NWBooster. Also, through decompile of the SystemUI, under Network Controller, I noticed a ro.config.combined_signal (still deciding what this actually is based on file).
EDIT 5/4: I've linked the download booster (aka nwbooster/network booster/smart bonding) to WFC (also called Wificalling). By noticing that smartbonding (under settings.db from SettingsProvider) that Wificalling AND Download Booster both tripped the smart_bonding to become 1 from 0 (showing enabled). I looked again into the Settings.apk decompiled and found that DBooster IS linked to WifiCalling, meaning we get one enabled, we get both. I also know, that under /System/framework that TmoWfcUtils.jar exists which DOES have functioning into why T-mobile has both the Wificalling and Download Booster enabled. I believe this jar has something to do with Dbooster and it being enabled. If you'd like to assist in this project, please PM me.
Unfortunately, that doesn't do anything. Maybe (hopefully) it'll help the process along for a dev to find a way to truly implement the feature, but for right now...that toggle is just for show.

Not option yet for Sprint/ATT/Verizon devices yet, I dont believe there has been update for our devices to enable this option. If you could see back to new update in OP, I need framework-res.apk and SecSettings.apk to see if I can port over to our phones since update may not come for some time (do not have ETA on when theyd do that).

Revelation, thats what I was saying. Someone will have a fix in the next couple days. Phone only came out the 13th. You guys know your stuff when it comes to getting rid of the stuff carriers add or break that the phone should be capable of doing anyhow.
And if I could post up speedtest jpg I would. 33Mb/s d/l and 6 Mb u/l. But the download booster wasnt lighting up on the status bar. So I am guessing it was just using wireless in the house.

Yeah, as of now until I can work on trying to get the booster to work via editing files and apks, the icon will be there yet no function. Hopefully it'll come in few days but, unless someone in community develops it first and ports, sprint I don't count on releasing update soon (hopefully wrong and sprint would do that). I'll be working on it as well as others to get this working.
Not on sprint.....

Since you have t mobile, you need root of course. Once rooted, use file explorer to navigate to individual apks and then basically copy/paste into another folder so you could post here. Secsettings.apk in system-> priv-app and framework-res.apk in system-> framework folder. OP had apks needed based on what I saw on S4 and what they extracted in S5. I'm going to dig in their first once I get t mobile or other variant files (preferably t mobile since only still US carrier to have download booster enabled as option). Hopefully if I find the source of where disabled, I can recompile the apks to work on all variants. If I don't find it in those apks, I'll keep looking based on what I see in other claims to being download booster enabled.

Ok if I can post up my dropbox correctly Revelation, I should be able to get this to you. However I couldnt get the priv-app file. Couldnt find it. Only the folder named that. Total noob with Unix anything...
go to dropbox.com/s/l1tdljwtlv2yhu9/SecSettings.apk <<< remove spaces before dropbox to get that one.
same thing dropbox.com/s/936v90266784vt2/framework-res.apk <<<same thing. Just remove one space.
Hope that it helps out somewhat. Then I may feel like I actually contributed something.

Thank you, everything counts towards to get it working.
OP Updated, see edits over course so far of what I've found out. If someone knows smali coding a bit more, need some to be looked over since found some lines needing to be modded. PM me if you can look over code and know how to edit the smali.
Is there a way to have download booster turning on while doing a Speedtest?

What for? Just to see the mark go higher? That feature is really useless unless you have an unlimited data plan (or you are rich).

Hidden fetures

every since I found out about the hidden call recorder and hidden download booster I can't help but think, is there more fetures AT&T Is hiding from us? I have been doing a lot of research on the subject and to my surprise I can't find anything about hidden fetures on the gs5 even when making spacific searches about "unlocking hidden fetures with root access" I can't find one single thing... does anyone here know of any unlockable hidden fetures on the gs5 other than the above mentioned? I'm fairly new to the whole root scene but have become addicted to searching through code just to see if I can find something I can change on my phone (yes I know this is risky but i have back up phones and I back up everything before changing anything) anyway any info anyone could give me about unlockable fetures or things I should try in general would be much appreciated. . Thanks in advance

How to enable call recording and download booster in hidden menu ?
For starters neither me nor the person that gave the directions are responsible if you brick your device or end up with system errors or unstable system in general....
XDA won't let me post the link to the call recorder because I am a new member here.... so you will have to do a Google search on enabling the hidden call record on the s5...
To enable download booster this is what I did download nova launcher start nova launcher long press home screen click shortcuts click activities scroll down untill you see settings click that scroll down until you see download booster click it.. it will put a shortcut on the nova launchers home screen for download booster click it activate enjoy...
I can't take credit for either set of directions as I am not the one who discovered it I can't remember who I got the download booster intrusions from but it was on the XDA site.. the other I found just by down research....

Not sure what to tell you... do some research... that's what I do.... the booster uses wifi and service providers internet to boost downloads OVER 30MB so if you are not connected to wifi and the download is not over 30MB in size it's not going to do anything..

I've had my s5 for a couple months now and here's some pretty cool tricks/ tips I've come across:
(I am not to blame for a bricked phone; processed with common sense and at your own risk)
- Adding new toggles
- Changing the notification panel icons from circles to squares by editing your build.prop "ro.product.device" and "ro.product.name" From "klteatt" to "jflteatt"(s4 notification panel and recent apps?)
- Have not tested this... Adding quick connect and s finder button to notification panel by changing "ro.product.device" and "ro.product.name" to "kltetmo "
- Have not tested this... Att has limited the cloud backup and restoring function of this phone so you can not backup and restore useful data such as mms, sms and call logs(?) I was able to bypass this by uninstalling the stock samsung account app and installing a new one.(Will try to upload apk I used if not just google)
- $tt has also crippled the stock my files and gallery app so you cant use the Dropbox function on either app(probably so you'll use their cloud service). Haven't found a work around but flashing to a t mobile rom will have the feature enabled on both apps.
- tip - Save time managing your files by using multi window mode with 2 my files app open, you can drag selected content from one screen to the other screen to save time.
Hope I helped someone
Thanks dude I'll be checking these out! Any custom roms you recommend for a noob? I already have safestrap and have backed up everything ready to start flashing just not sure where to start.....

I'm using a mostly stock t-mobile based rom it might not be loaded with features but it's stable. I've tried dynamic kat but the battery was draining too much in standby even when I tried disabling a lot of features and apps.
I've been running Dynamic Kat for a few months ( pretty much since it was released ) I loved it and had great battery life. It would last anywhere from 1.5 - 2 days. I'm now running alliance rom. I ran it about a week ago and the battery want very impressive so I went back to Dynamic Kat, but got bored today so I flashed back to alliance and disabled a few more things and greenified alot of stuff so I'll see how it works now
Thanks for all the info keep them coming! I'm downloading visix at the moment and will download these others as soon as I get a chance

I've had the download booster working on my phone. I can assure you, that all that nova launcher does is unhides the feature. It does not unlock it or make it work. There is a thread around here as to how to make the download booster work, but the fix is kind of unstable and works best on firmware G900AUCU1ANCE. It will break private mode, and on another firmware, has a tendency to break the camera and the gps. I don't know if it works at all on the most recent update. I'm on the one in between, G900AUCU2AND3. I could go back, but I prefer to keep the Reactivation lock over the download booster.
Fair enough I just now tested it out and your right it don't work witch sucks.. when I first unlocked it using nova I had nothing over 30mb to test it on nor do I have WiFi at my house so I had to wait to go to my bro-in-laws just to test it looks like I'll be doing more research on this.... I am still looking to test out other roms so anyone that has any suggestions on good roms to try out let me know I'm currently running visix witch is pretty awesome by the way
