Mother told me to use protection, but I'm going full on nude... - Nexus 7 Accessories

I've gone through a few different cases and sleeves now. But while changing cases recently, I happened to stop and look at my Nexus without any protection. It felt a lot thinner and looked freaking sexy. I don't know if I'm crazy, but I think I'm going to go naked (minus a screen protector).
Is anyone else here using their Nexus without a case or cover? What has your experience been?

I use mine most of the time naked heh. But put it in a cheap fake leather smart cover case when I take it anywhere, and then take it out usually to use it.

Naked with a screen protector. I have a roocase for travel. Wouldn't have it any other way.

using a TPU case, just because when I play, it gets really hot...

I was lightly using my tablet naked for the first time today and it was amazing. Call me crazy, but the extra thinness that I got from removing my hardshell case was a totally new experience.
What has your experience been like? Is your Nexus damaged as a result of not using a case?

I use it naked too. Not even a screen protector yet. Not sure how i feel about sticking a plastic sheet on it. The screen already looks kinda dim and washed colors.
For when not in use, I have on the way a Peli hard case.

Naked here as well, but I'm in the market for a hard-case / sturdy case for transportation mode. I hate screenprotectors (I never can get them on without dust/bubbles) they make any device they're applied to less responsive in my opinion. For now the tablet is mainly used indoors, but I'm planning to start using it outdoors for photography purposes (combined with dslr controller app).

Naked, no issues yet.
If it's getting hot when gaming, a case isn't going to make that any better...

Haven't put a screen protector on my HTC ONE X phone or the N7 as I feel their screens are good enough. Use a case so I can do stuff while using the N7 as I have a badly damaged shoulder and arm.
If I used my 'good arm' to support the N7 i can't do much else so a case that stands up in portrait or landscape is a must for me. I guess for others it probably isn't a hassle to use an arm to hold the N7. At least I get medical insurance for my injury so I can afford goodies like this which helps me pass time less painfully when the kids and wife aren't keeping me busy ;D

I use mine fully naked, no screen protector or anything. I got a caselogic sleeve for transporting and wrap it in a microfiber cloth mostly to keep dust off and having it handy to wipe fingerprints and stuff off

O_O
There are some brave people on these forums. I could never use my tab without a screen protector. I'd be too paranoid. As for dropping my tab, I haven't dropped an electronic device in years so I'm not too worried about that.

What's the best practice to keep the microfiber cloths clean? They do gather dust and small particles in time which can scratch the screen when using them? Is it enough just to shake them really hard or need to wash them often?

i use mine naked prefer it, i also use glasses cleaning wipes to clean my screen cheep to

My Nexus 7 and galaxy S3 are used naked.

I got a great case on Amazon that is a wallet, a handgrip thing, and has a smart cover so it locks when i close it. i only paid $10 for it.
It looks a bit cheap in the picture but when you actually get it its nice.

A quick google search says the most practical way is to hand wash them in a bucket of warm water, let soak for 1 hour and hang dry if they are small, which they probably are. No real reason to put a couple of small microfiber cloths in the washer and dryer unless you really want to. Also you SHOULD NOT wash them with other loads. They pick up and hold dust/dirt and if there are other clothes then they will just pick up and hold that from washer and dryer, which would probably make them dirtier than cleaner.

I just received a fantastic case that works well with the naked tab. It doubles as a stand. I'll post a review in the next week or so.

I always go naked with my devices. I think about cases and sometimes they sound nice but in the end I like the slimness, the less extra bs to worry about.

I tap all my bitc-I mean... Devices raw.
I'm thinking of strapping the N7 up, though. She's wifey material...
http://android-gz.com

I'm not a nexus never-nude either.
Have a timbuk2 envelope for when it's in my bag, and prob going to order a rickshaw sleeve so I can slip it in and out of my messenger bag's fortuitously N7-sized outer compartment easier but with some padding.
But when actually using it, no case, no screen protector. I don't want bubbles, don't want adhesive residue, don't want a less smooth surface for my mesh stylus and fingers, don't want a less-clear screen...
And I like the nexus' grippy back, sexy design (everyone who sees it says oooh is that the iPad mini? How are you liking your iPad mini? Fools  )
I can however see benefit of a case for those who don't mind bulk, but I don't see much point in screen protectors...

[Q] How do you protect your nexus? Case, pouch, invisible shield, nothing

Just was wondering what people have been using to protect their N1s now that its been out for a while, and how has it held up. I like the look of the N1 on its own without cases, and was thinking of using the little pouch that came with the box with no other case. Is this a wise move?
I have a case on my phone and an anti-glare screen protector (don't get anti glare it ruins the screen's look and colors) the reason I don't use the pouch is it gets annoying to take the phone out of my pocket with the pouch on then have to remove the phone from the pouch.

The slip case that came with the phone
Seidio Innocase works for me. See the XDA Nexus acessories section...
I've got an Otterbox Commuter series case that I use when I'm on "business" trips or at other times that my phone is likely to be handled roughly. That case is no joke. Actually, I would probably use that case all the time if I didn't use my car dock every time I drive. It takes a bit of time to pull the phone out of the case several times a day. I generally just use the slip case that came with the phone. Does a good job of fighting off scratches, and is still easy to remove so I can install the phone in a dock in just a moment.
Just a screen protector, I have used cases/covers etc, and always end up coming back to just nothing I like the slim feeling
I like the slim look also, thats why i think im going to stick with the little android pouch that came in the box. Just hope it doesnt cause any black marks on the sides or anything. Previous owner of the nexus said he never used a case but made sure nothing else was in his pocket and the phone looks brand new with no marks anywhere.
On one of my other N1s there are some dust particles under the screen on the bottom left. 1 of them is big enough to look like a dead pixel when the screen is on, the rest are not noticeable. Anyone have a easy fix to get rid of the dust? That one particle is starting to annoy me.
Ever since I lost the neoprene case, I have been going commando.
Case-Mate "Tough Case" and the screen protector that came with it.
Transparent polycarb hard-case from eBay. Beautiful and strong, but no docking possible.

I do similar: when I'm traveling, I put the N1 in my Otterbox Commuter case and enable the PIN the lock. Otherwise, no case and no PIN.
A gel skin for me.
I put a screen protector on it to cut down on sweaty fingerprints during the summer, otherwise nothing. I've had mine since it came out for ATT (march?) and it's still perfect. Just keep keys and change in the other pocket.
i'm using a silicone slip on protector. i'm too scare i'll drop it without it otherwise i would go commando but i have nerve damage in my right hand so my control over parts of my hand are sub par compared to normal people
my ulnar nerve was severed by glass and repaired but i still do not have full function of the minor muscles in my hand and only have partial feeling in the pinky/ring finger and that side of my hand so thicker phones are more comfortable in my hand and the super rubber grip around the whole thing makes it very hard if not impossible for it to slip out of my hand.

I use BestSkinsEver (for a fraction of the cost of an InvisibleShield) protection and a horizontal leather Case Logic pouch... I used to have a silicon protector but it was a pain in the butt because it collects dust and lint like crazy!

Anybody have the Ballistic case?

If so just interested in some pics of it or just some review, there doesn't seem to be much online about them.
Would post a link but not allowed...... LOL

looks like a nice case but seems too bulky. i like slim and sleek
I also use the Ballistic case, I love it!
My job is kinda rough on my phone so I needed something tough.
I could understand why someone might want something a little slicker, but if your likely going to bash around your phone unintentionally, I'd recommend this case highly! I like the bulky military look however and it makes the phone comfortable to hold.
http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/samsung-nexus-s-ballistic-sg-series-case
Would you please post some pictures with your phone? Eventually while holding it in your hand? I want to make an impression of how it "feels". Thanks.
Never mind ... I've created my own pictures :

Apart from shipping, is there any way to get these at Best Buy, Target etc?
I absolutely love my ballistic case and I actually tested it by throwing my phone about 20ft across a parking lot and absolutely zero issues. Very rugged case that will protect your phone from just about anything
Its the best $25 I have spent lol have dropped phone can't tell u how many times and nothing it adds a lil bulk (nothin crazy) to the phone but the protection is well worth it
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I have the case. I love how sturdy and solid it makes the phone feel. The bulkiness doesn't bother me. It's good a good grip and it feels nicer holding the phone with the case on it.
The only thing I don't like is that... since the edges sit up higher than the level of the screen (which is for protection, I know) it is kind of like a lint trap... I'm constantly blowing lint and crap off of my screen.
This Ballistic case fit also i9023 model?
Fits the phone and it's rock solid yet I don't think it looks that cool live since it's huge and those bumpers are lol. After mounting, the phone looks like a measurement instrument.
The rubber layer on the lower part of the phone is too close to the back and home buttons since you'll get an oval shape with the case on and the touching of those buttons aren't that comfy anymore.
Pro: -fits perfect (buttons, curves, no movement)
- high quality materials (similar to otterbox rubber/plastic if not same)
- makes the phone quite shock resistant, unless it falls on the screen
Con: - price
- it's huge
- the bumpers could be smaller
- there's no cover for the ports (ex.: otterbox commuter)
If somebody wants to use it for scratch protection i think the cheapest case will do. But if you do sports and/or work in above average conditions, then it's a good accessory.
Nice!!, but shouldn't that case come with pants with XXXL pockets?

Haha, seriously no joke!
I'd like to add only one 'con' for this case after using it for many months now.
The rubber corners seem to be fluff magnets when I put it in my pocket, can be quite annoying if you like a squeaky clean phone.
Saying that, because of this I have noticed that the case is EXCELLENT at not letting dust/crap touch the phone under the cover, very well sealed. Also, it's motivated me to keep my pockets fluff free, which is good!

New Type Screen Protector

Has anyone yet tried out this "new type" of screen protector yet?
http://www.cultofandroid.com/26901/...or-borrows-technology-from-bulletproof-glass/
Doc
Sounds neat, but anyone describing a screen protector as 'magic self healing' as a technology makes me skeptical.
I look forward to someone else reviewing it!
My screen is so hard it doesn't pick up scratches. Extra layers are just extra junk. Now if it provides some protection from breakage that would be useful. If I drop it on the ground is it any less likely to crack?
I don't disbelieve the article though. They have been working on self healing films for a few years. You can get self healing clear coat and paint on some cars. Maybe this would be useful for a construction worker who has to touch his screen with abrasive sandy grit. That WILL scratch our screen even though car keys and normal handling doesn't.

I'd be interested to see how it heals scratches after some real abuse, like sandpaper. Keys and such are a worthless test at this point. It seems everyone has moved to something that can prevent scratching from those. But even the best current screens can't stop being scratched by a single grain of sand in your pocket. That alone is why I use screen protectors. It's not like I roll around in a sand dune then put the phone in my pocket, but even being VERY careful with a prior "Gorilla Glass" type screen, I got a couple scratches on it from sand. The only "glass" I know of that can prevent that is the Sapphire crystal that you can get on nicer watches. Those are probably far too expensive to use on phones.
For now, I'm using a Clarivue glass protector. It's really nice, but does have some tiny lifting at the top corners. And it will scratch from sand, like any glass. But it's a lot cheaper and easier to replace the protector than the phone screen.
This is the only video of it I can currently find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hosHv5k0IKI&feature=player_detailpage#t=764s
Not much of a review but it does show the "self healing" capability against a wire brush.
I'm considering getting one as I haven't yet bought a screen protector for my phone but feel I should do at some point.

I think that it is great that you don't pick up scratches but some people keep the phone in their pocket with keys, coins and other crap so something like this does make sense. I may try to go to a T-Mobile store and check it out.

So do I of course.
Keys and coins don't hurt this screen.
They haven't hurt most screens the last few years. My og evo after 2 years of rough careless handling with no case or screen protector was scratched up but only lightly and not enough to matter. That is, a lot of fine scratches but none of them deep, and the screen is still clear so they don't matter in any functional way. And it took 2 years to even get that way and it's not worth anything by then to try to sell it even if it were new and never used. My evo lte after 1 year of the same did even better and is almost unblemished. Only 1 year but it looks better than the og evo did at 1 year. My girlfriends iphone4 after 2 years of the same looks almost unblemished, although she handles hers a little more carefully than I do, but still, no screen protector and it rubs up on keys and hair clips and paper clips and coins in her purse and in the cup holder in the car.
The lest few years of hard glass screens are very hard just for this reason and they work pretty well.
The reason I mentioned sand is that sand or other hard mineral abrasive will scratch it. Most metals won't. Especially not chrome plated brass keys or copper/silver alloys in coins. My stainless steel multitool doesn't even. The tungsten carbide cutting wheel of a glass cutter would with enough concerted pressure.

Caseless

Hey guys! I've been using my Galaxy s7 edge in a case ever since I got it, but one time I took it off the case and I liked the feeling of it. Is anyone else using the phone caseless and can you tell me how that experience is? I took a day to use it caseless but it was a little uncomfortable in my hand especially when I'm on my bed. Thanks! Also thinking of getting dbrand skin
Before otterbox came out with a case I wanted, I rocked my first edge caseless. I would sit down on my front concrete steps and the phone would slip out of my pocket every time. Had a couple of scrapes. Got abother edge and have thrown a xtreme guard skin on the back for less slippage but decided not to ruin the phone so I got a glass protector and commuter case. I honestly wish someone would come out with a spring clip holster for the edge so I can stop hiding the phone.

Get either a dbrand or tpu front and back protectors. I have the clear front and back protectors and they are great the phone sticks to my hand i have used the phone caseless since the release of the s7 edge and have not dropped it or even had the thought to my self of needing a case for it.
Here's a link to the one I got, UK link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CH5RJT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_udp_apa_8e3IxbA2KK8HP
I couldn't find it on the US amazon website so if you are not in the UK you could try to find it on eBay or just purchase something similar.
When im home i always take off my case. I really feel the premiumness of the glass and metal build of the s7. Its what we pay for, premium build and the thickness is ideal. The only thing i hate about is when im on the bed using the phone it continues to slip from the hand and i accidentally touch the curve edges. I bought a super thin gel case for when i go out. And ordered a skin from slickwrap.
I use it without a case occasionally but it is kind of slippery. I bought a naked skin slickwrap since I was mostly worried about scratches that also added a little more grip

i used the phone with a case for 2 months, now i'm using a dbrand leather skin and a spigen screen protector without a case. waiting for a decent glass screen protector... same issue in bed, feels a little bit uncomfortable.
I quit putting my phones in a case since my Note 3. Right now I have Zagg HD Dry on the front and back (btw this is the most dissatisfied I've ever been with Zagg). My house is almost entirely travertine tile and I have dropped my phone once; it landed right down on the screen with not a crack on it at all (some what of a testament to Zagg I presume). I dislike the feel of the Zagg but it does its job but I really dislike the bulkiness of cases.
At home, case less (only front and back protectors). Outside, cased.
Sent from my S7 Edge using XDA Labs
I'm not so bold to go caseless. I really don't have confidence in the illusion of "Gorilla Glass" where you can watch videos on youtube of people dropping mallets and run the s7 with a car all day, but in the real word a 2ft drop could ruin it's pristine look.
While I like the feel of just the phone in my hand, I don't like it's magnetism for dust, prints, and oil smudges. I can't defend the aesthetic choice of making a phone ridiculously shiny and smooth, making it look gorgeous when it's clean, and then look like garbage 5 minutes later after handling it.
But I didn't buy the phone for it's look. I bought it for its processor, particularly gaming-related reasons, in which a case really helps for grip and avoiding those abhorrent navigation buttons. Phone be like "I know you're in an application with immersion mode and you're holding the phone landscape, but your palm lightly brushed against the recent button, so I'm going to go ahead and eject you from your game you're playing. What's that? You were playing a multiplayer match online and this slight inconvenience disqualified you from your match? Sorry bout that, but **** you anyway." It happens alot. When you're gaming in landscape, thats where your thumb and palm rest... on the top and bottom bezels. So you gotta uncomfortably ark your thumb to avoid touching the button, but a case you can play in landscape much more comfortably.
Since i take care of it, i don't use a case, just a full body skin protector.

Installation is a pain in the ass but i won't be worried about scratches anymore now and i love the look of it without a case.

my insurance covers till 1000 euros so im good (paying 3 euros a month)
Currently.. yes.. caseless.
My old S3 was caseless most of its life (with one of those screen protector packages that covered both sides.) Eventually the back one was taken off to make it look less grimey. S5 was also caseless except when I'd go backpacking or off road, in which case I'd slip it into an Incipio Dual Pro. (Glass screen protector was on it too.)
I've tried a few combinations on the S7E but since none of the glass options seem to be any good still, and every film based screen cover i've tried peels once I put it in a case, i've just been running with a Zagg HD screen protector and nothing else.
I love the feel of the phone, and reduced bulk, but I definitely have activities where I'd like to have SOME kinda protection on the phone. (Lack of such is how I managed to get some pretty gnarly scratches on the screen very early on.) Suffice it to say that I stopped caring about small scratches on the back a long time ago.

Anyone going naked....what are the results?

Just curious as I am using the Best Buy screen protector film and just can't stand the feel of the sharp edges etc so I want to remove it. Anyone gone a while without coverage and if so, any major scratches?
Thanks in advance
Hi @imapfsr,
using my device without a screen protector since 22/12/2016 and have no scrates
Everything should be fine if you use an protective cover for the phone.
I got an inch-long scratch on the screen where usually my right thumb roams around while it's been only a month I got this phone.
Thanks for your input....I was hoping for all positive results but I think Im still going to chance it. I do have a nice lined sleeve so I should be ok. It really is amazing how good this screen looks when you dont have anything on it so Im going to enjoy it instead of obsessing over it and keeping it mint for the next user when I sell it.
have you seen the scratch test videos on youtube for this phone? this phone is as scratch resistant as any other flashship device. i honestly have no idea what people could be doing to scratch this phone. i carry it with my keys in my pocket with zero worry about it scratching after seeing the test. i really don't know how you could scratch it unless you did it intentionally.
I occasionally use the case it came with but 90% of the time this thing is in it's Birthday suite, not a single scratch or mark on it. The Ceramic is such a gorgeous material and pretty much scratch proof! The glass used for the screen is also pretty robust. I wouldn't worry about this thing scratching... drops are what you should be afraid of!
Same here ...ive had rhis since November, I actually hate the leather case and opted for a slim transparent case from China which shows off the body...I tried to go completely naked but this phone is just waaaaay to slippery, dont have a screen protector...and wont put one one....not a single scratch...( Fingers crossed)
Most things wont scratch it, unless its "harder" than the material of the phone.
Watch out for things like SAND! and GLITTER!
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am full on nude now...lots of hand cream to keep the phone from slipping out of my hands...no scratches on the front but surprise how quickly the ceramic back has developed tiny scratches but it still feels to good for any kind of wrap or skin.
Darn glitter ?

Mine is still mint. Leather case has never touched it. I am overly careful and don't even leave it on most tables and such unless there is a soft tissue, tablecloth or anything covering the surface. That can sort of be crippling for most people. Therefore it's mostly in a pocket clean of debris. I just can't stand cases. I always opt for custom skins for the back so I can put it down everywhere. Chances of finding someone making custom skins for this device must be slim. No luck yet. May have to buy one of those ready made ones. Seen a carbon type, but seems like the choices are few. Please hit me up if anyone else are looking and finds anyone that offers custom ones. Would be much appreciated.
Maybe I'll make my own, idk.
So I am two or three weeks in with no protection, front or back, and I hate to say it but the back of my phone is scratched up pretty bad. I use a sleeve to carry it around and I'm not sure if that is what is causing it. Just curious if anyone else has had bad scratching our if it's just me.
No screen protector, no casing, no nothing. Had it since december 19th. No scratches, still pristine.
It's forbidden where I live, unfortunately.
What is forbidden? Going naked?
I never use the film screen protectors, presently [as with all my past phones] using the provided leather case [will eventually go to a flip cover case - always have them so comfortable with them].
I prefer carrying my phone naked. Especially, when it's a nice looking phone. You just have to be conscious of having your phone and grip it tight while holding it as opposed to casually holding it in a relaxed manner. Nothing will happen to it if you consciously take care of it. At best, put it in your back pocket while walking and not using it, but don't forget it's there
i have been using this naked since i purchased in September 17. Only issue is ceramic is very slippery, so use side sticker atleast to increase grip.
something like this https://www.amazon.com/Decalrus-Pro...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2PK292A230JGWCC1JQTT
